Ernie Ball 2021 Regular Slinky Paradigm Electric Guitar Strings - .010-.046 Reviews

.010-.046 Regular Slinky Electric Guitar Strings, with No-break/No-rust Guarantee - 1 Set

Ernie Ball Paradigm electric guitar strings are amazingly resistant to rust and breakage — and whether you earn a living with your guitar or not, that's a big deal. These plasma-treated strings deliver classic Slinky tone along with advanced engineering that can withstand aggressive players. And even if you travel with your guitar often, or live in a salty-aired coastal region, Paradigm strings will stay rust-free for a very long time. Kenny Wayne Shepherd couldn't break 'em. John Petrucci couldn't break 'em. Guitarists at Sweetwater haven't been able to break Ernie Ball Paradigm guitar strings either, and we expect you'll eventually get bored trying.

Hi Quality

By Thomas Soli from FOLSOM, PA on February 12, 2024

I thought I liked Cobalts, these are even better, fuller sounding and a bit stiffer but I actually prefer a little resistance. I don't know how these got 3 star reviews or complaints. I'd say those folks are hard to please.

no rust.

I was rocking the regular slinkys before, but now that i found these i nver will go back

The hype is real, y'all

By Clay Murphy on January 18, 2023 Music Background: Guitar Player, Audio Engineer

I am always hesitant to believe the whole "unbreakable, longer lasting, wound by monks in ancient mountains" thing, but after giving these a try once I was convinced. Give them a try if you haven't.

Really Amazing and great sounding strings

By William Sottile from The Dalles, OR on January 31, 2022 Music Background: Artist, recording, software design engineer, special FX. soundscapes..

I bought several sets of these for most of my 6 & 7str guitars; they feel great and sound great when you first put them on. Honestly I've had about a year of playing and 100 hours/month on average in the studio is not uncommon for me. But the longer I use them, and clean them with finger-ease often, they seem to start losing some intonation. octave harmonic is off a few cents.

One thing I'd like to say about some of the comments made here. Many were saying they were so bad, or they broke. Then they would go thru the truss bar settings, raising and lower bridge saddles, etc. I found, IMHO, that as soon as you start messing with the truss rod, and you don't know 100% what you're doing, that's a danger zone, and I would be careful. When you get a more cut-rate priced guitar, you always stand the risk of getting one that is a tiny bit warped in places, you have to adjust as best as you can, and save up for that real Majesty or Jem, right? the cut-rate ones are still mostly well done, but require fine-tuning on things. Best luck; I only use these strings anymore. Really grown to like what Ernie Ball has done over the decades, they were there early and Sterling's family has kept the quality exquisite.

My #1!

By Klutch from Western Massachusetts on December 12, 2021 Music Background: 25 years of Metal/Rock/Blues/Shred/Punk/Hardcore/other guitar playing, 11 bands (lifetime) | 1 currently, 7 albums/EPs

These strings are incredible sounding. They stay clean, sounding fresh, and can handle every bit of abuse I deliver mercilessly every single day... including all forms of tour abuse from the road (extreme weather/temp/climate changes, etc.).
I previously used GHS Boomers/D'Addario XLs (10-46) and still occasionally use S.I.T Universal balanced tension (10.5 - 48).
The only thing I've ever seen break or mess up one of these strings are worn down/neglected equipment and/or friction points (nut, saddles, tuners, etc. which get sharp during wear and will ruin anything that touches it) which is expected... the only other instance was a guitar that got ripped apart and thrown out into the audience- strings were removed from the guitar by force, but were perfectly intact still

Definitely the best choice of strings

By Sweetwater Customer on June 20, 2021

About 5 or 6 months ago I had bought two packs of these strings after hearing about their reliability and durability, plus I was tired of the strings I had. Upon changing them, they sounded absolutely amazing. Even putting them on a cheaper guitar makes it sound a lot better. I didn't have any breaks even after tuning it to F standard which surprised me. And this was after a couple of months of having the strings on my guitar.

Sure, durability, but also awesome

By B on May 29, 2021 Music Background: A player of many things.

I keep coming back to these.
I know the pitch is durability, but they're also just *really great* strings in general. "String feel" is wonderful, and they can handle wildly varying styles with ease.

Most durable strings I've used so far

By Caeden I Samuels from Iowa on July 27, 2020

These strings are the best and most durable I've played with so far. I had them for 3 months and they did not break until I had to break them myself to fix my pickups and even then I had trouble getting them off because of the great build quality. If you somehow manage to break these strings just by playing normally I applaud you.

Best strings ever!

By Clint Davis from Mena, AR on September 6, 2019 Music Background: Gigging musician

I'm a very active guitarist in 2 bands and hated having to take the down time to change strings every month or so. I tried these and now only need string changes between 6 months and a year! 6 months on my go-to guitars and I can get away with over a year on the ones not regularly used. I love the feel and tone of these strings. I had intonation issues after a couple of weeks with my A string on competitor's coated strings but none with the Paradigms.

Best strings I have ever used!

By Zack Wright from Georgia on May 13, 2018 Music Background: Musician since 2003

These strings are absolutely amazing. They hold up well for my custom Ibanez RG with floating trem. Dive-bombs all day in standard E and no broken strings.

The feel is amazing and tone is incredible. I pay more for strings because if I have a crappy tone and feel from my strings, then I am already on the wrong foot in practice/performance. They last longer than any other string I have used too.

I understand that some people are not liking these strings. I can honestly say, I am a very happy customer and will continue to use Paradigm for a very long time. I can't go a day without them!

Para Digm 10-46

By Mark A Kinney from AL on October 7, 2017

These string's just play great and feel right the attack everything the tone and they stay in tune right away.
Sweet water has been out of stock these sorry I go them some were else! So I hope you get these in stock and have them on hand for wants.I have the Ibanez S Series Iron Label SIX6FDFM - Blue Space Burst and this guitar love these string right out of the box they are a keeperfd

Still Going

By Sweetwater Customer from Wisconsin on August 6, 2017 Music Background: Enthusiast

I've had these on my guitar since mid-April and they're still going strong. Regular Slinky usually get a dull, lifeless sound to them for me after about a month. These still have the same nice, bright tone as when I first put them on. They still stay perfectly in tune as well, even after doing wide bends and heavy vibrato. I even use the whammy without any fear.

Just when I think it's time to change them, I wipe them down with a towel with a little bit of isopropyl alcohol on it and they brighten back up again. I'm impressed and will consider putting these on my other guitars as well as it comes time to restring them.

Not unbreakable but best solution

By Sweetwater Customer on January 23, 2024

With repeated Floyd rose use they break, albeit slightly less often then normal slinkies. However they stay rust free for ~3 months. I just put a couple extra wraps on the tuner and pull it down for when it snaps. Tuning stability feels the same. Worth it if restringing floating bridges frustrates you.

Nice..... Worth the Hype?

By Bill from MA on May 2, 2017 Music Background: Gigging musician, writer

Picked up a set just about as soon as they arrived in stock.
I play a lot of strings.... have loved Slinkys for years, love EB Cobalts and also LOVE NYXL's. These Paradigms are kind of an answer to both NYXL and Elixir in my eyes... pretty cool.

First impressions were mostly positive. Very 'snappy' response and pretty resonant unplugged. They seemed to take an unexpectedly long time to settle into tune, which surprised me a bit. (Note: my experience is that NYXLs lock right in and don't move a smidge). They also felt a bit more rigid and stiff vs Reg. Slinky... almost felt more like 11's than 10's. not sure if they're supposed to have more tension than the regular Slinkys, but definitely felt that way. Plugged in they sound AWESOME as you'd expect.

If they last as long as Elixirs and stay in tune as well as NYXL, I think they're worth the price. If not, it would be hard to top NYXL in my mind. Try them out, trust Ernie Ball... they're a great company with great products. You're going to get world class strings. Whether they're perfect for you..... that's for you to decide!

B string broke after about 40 days or so cant replace because i threw away the pack!

By Joseph Farley on October 28, 2019 Music Background: I have been a serious hobbyist for about 5 years now i play around 2 hrs a day or more.

The strings are good they feel great they sound great but my b string broke after about 40 days or so. I dont know if it was a fluke or what, but i have another set that are still going strong. I they are good but i dont know if i can justify the price if its gona break. I have inspected my saddle it is fine no burrs or sharp edges so idk why it broke but it did right at the spot it goes around the ball. They are good strings but for the price elixer or nyxl is a good option they both lasted me longer then these did. It may have been a fluke but it happened all the same.

Good strings, but there’s a catch.

By Chris Hess from Houston,TX on June 12, 2018 Music Background: Regular player for a hundred years.

I gave it three stars because, well they are good strings. The sound is great and balanced. I put new set of strings on my guitar three days before I had a show. Played the whole day outside which is not supposed to be a problem with the strings. Finished the show, and wiped down the guitar put it back in the case. Took the guitar out Monday to go to rehearsal in the first note I hit the D string broke. After this I tried to claim the 90 day guarantee. There is a 90 day guarantee only if you kept the original packaging and 20 digit number and code on the foil package. If you don"t have this you"re screwed on your warranty. This is really a bummer Ernie Ball

Not expected

By Vladimir on December 30, 2019

I bought a pack of 3 units. Right at the installation broke the first string of the first set. I contacted Ernie Ball, sent photos of the serial number, was well attended, answered the next day and sent me a string set. Days later, another first string of the second set broke. Only the third set lasted until the strings lost their luster and tuning. But overall, they last half the time of Elixir. Although it has a slightly better tone than this, when we add several filters (such as drive, multiple cables, other instruments playing loud, sound applied in-line by the soundboard, ambient acoustics, listener's beer ...), neither the most purist of audiophiles will notice difference.

For the timbre, i would in 3 stars, but for the price and resistance, deserved 2 stars.

Hit and Miss Quality

By Quinn from St Louis, Missouri on July 28, 2017

I bought a couple of sets of these and so far so good on the first set. However the second set - not so good. G string snapped at the bridge (Floyd Rose) while setting up and after handling that it immediately broke again at the tuning peg. I don't think I'll be buying these again. The spotty quality doesn't match the price. Going back to Dean Markley Blue Steels.

Oh snap

By Dave from Michigan on July 15, 2017

Had high hopes for these strings, they do a really good job on the not rusting part. But they break just the same if not worse. Put a set on my fav block-o-wood and did three practices and snap.... I figure I have 10 or less hours actually playing them. Been playing for 20ish years so it's not a issue of technique as I rarely ever break a string. These would be good for storing a guitar but not at this price range.

Didn't break, but......

By Jeff Ketcham from Hamilton, OH on June 11, 2017 Music Background: Lead Guitarist for KornPuddin' and One Nite Stand

I'm really disappointed in these strings. I put them on less than a month ago and I've been fighting intonation and string buzzing for a couple weeks. I have a brand new neck with stainless frets and I was blaming it for the problems. I made multiple truss rod and intonation adjustments. I've raised the string height. I even filed a couple frets. Finally it dawned on me that this guitar can't be this messed up. I took the Para Gigm strings off and right away I could feel large cuts where they touched the frets. The wound strings were wore almost in half. These strings were JUNK after less than 2 weeks. As advertised, they didn't break and they didn't rust, but were destroyed after 2 weeks. In addition, they never stayed in tune for more than a few songs. I never have to tune my guitar during a set and I had to tune after almost every song with these.

I could see someone using these string on their backup guitar that never gets used, but I would never put these on your main guitar. I always change my strings a few days before every gig, but I can get about 2 weeks out of normal GHS boomers when I don't have a gig. No reason to pay triple the price for a useless guarantee.

Sounded good, but....

By Curtis Michael Brady from VA on August 14, 2021 Music Background: Professional Musician

...2nd string broke in the middle of a gig. Had about 3 hours playing time. Can't work with that.

Broken string

Super Disappointed

By Fred Wamback from Freeport, TX on October 3, 2023 Music Background: Guitar and bass musician for over 20 years

I finally tried the Paradigm strings from Ernie Ball. They just dont feel as good as the regular ernie ball slinkys to me, and i only had them on my guitar for a week and broke a string. I havent broke a string in about ten years. Ill be going back regular Ernie Ball Slinkys and now im weary about trying new strings.

Worst guitar strings ever made since the guitar was invented

By Nick DeLizio from Connecticut on November 9, 2019 Music Background: 40-50 gigs a year

The title says it all. Every pack I've owned (7 packs total), all have had the string break within the first 30 days. I've sent back the broken strings to EB to get a new set, and those broke. I don't know why I veered away from my NYXL's. Dumb move on my part. Live and learn lesson. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

They do break. Twice

By Chris Hess from Houston on July 15, 2018 Music Background: Bands for decades

Tried them one more time. Maybe, just maybe, they"ll work out this time. WRONG. Put a new pair on the night before a gig. 3rd set the A broke. Mid 4th set the D went. ...they aren"t worth it.

Do not buy

By Anthony Rucci from Austin, TX on July 10, 2018 Music Background: professional with a music degree

Terrible. I have been a loyal Ernie Ball Slinky user for over a decade. I hate these. They don't feel like Slinkys, and for all their claims of them being rust and break proof the set I used rusted and broke. Seems they tried to take the NYXL model and fell on their face.
Will go back to Slinkys, but these strings are expensive garbage. The description here says to use a string cleaner to keep grime off. I'm a big believer that you should not have to use anything additional on your strings. I only tried one set. Don't waste your money on these. If you want something similar go NYXL

No-break, No-rust, No-feel

By Sweetwater Customer on May 30, 2018

I've been using Ernie Ball Slinkys for about 15 years now. Gave these a try. They might not break or rust and be the most durable strings ever, which is cool and all, but they also feel totally different and not really like Slinkys. They're really stiff and lifeless. They don't have the sponginess, spank, smoothness, bite, or playability of a standard Slinky string. I appreciate what they did here, might feel good for some, but just not for me

Broke immediately

By Mike from MA on May 13, 2018

Very disappointed. The G-string broke immediately after putting it on. Tuned up as normal and started bending up the neck to stretch it out. POP, right at the tuning peg. REALLY?!? I suppose I should have read some of the reviews before buying, but their marketing seemed so definitive on these things being "unbreakable" that I didn"t give it a second thought. I usually use regular ol" Ernie Ball strings and they seem to last forever. ...I"m not going to put another set of these strings on my guitar and have any confidence in them...

Terrible. Broke first day

By Ashton from Arkansas on February 5, 2018

I got a set and they broke the first day on my floyd rose ibanez guitar.

Paradigm by Ernie Ball

By Loren from Whittier on January 31, 2018 Music Background: Music teacher

I put them on last Wednesday, the low E broke yesterday. By contrast, my coated varities last three to four months. Don"t bother, stay with what you are using.

they completely suck

By Ernie ball suckz from angry guitarist on August 14, 2017 Music Background: breaking strings

Broke after a week and they won't give me free ones! you need to keep the plastic wrapper? rip off and complete scam. go with NY XL s da'darios

They will break so save the package for warrantee

By Sean from MA on May 20, 2017 Music Background: Professional guitarist

I saw these strings and based on the video and the 90 day guarantee I figured I'd give them a try even though they are 3 times more expensive than my usual brand but the thought of not having to change my strings was very appealing. I put these on my guitar April 28, 2017, played 1 show with them and I was running through the songs for my show yesterday, May 19 and I broke a string. Normally I over practice but I was away for a week on vacation so I barely played that guitar in the less than 30 days they were on. The form and process for the warrantee is such a pain it's almost not worth putting in the claim. Save the original foil package, there's a code for the claim and you have to send the strings back to Ernie Ball. I would not recommend nor will I ever purchase another set of these strings
