Korg Opsix Module Altered FM Synthesizer Rackmountable Desktop Module Reviews

4U Rackmountable Altered FM Synthesizer Dekstop Module with 64-voice Polyphony, 250 Presets, 250 User Programs, 6 Operators, 6 Synthesis Styles, Polyphonic Motion Sequencing, Step Sequencer, Randomizer, 21 Oscillator Waveforms, 23 LFO Waveforms, Modulation Matrix, 30 Onboard FX, Arpeggiator, Velocity Sensitivity, Pitch/Mod Wheels, 5-pin MIDI I/O, 1/4" Stereo Out, 1/4" Headphone Out, USB-B Port, and MIDI 2.0 Support

Korg’s original Opsix synthesizer debuted to critical acclaim, attaining new heights of digital synthesis in an impressively easy-to-use form factor. Now, the dark horse of FM synthesis rides into a flexible form factor that channels the sum of its 37-key sibling’s power into a 19-inch, 4U rackmountable desktop module. With the Opsix MkII Module, its polyphony is doubled from its predecessor’s 32 voices to a massive 64 voices of 6-operator FM madness. Its versatile chassis accommodates a number of desktop, rackmounted, studio, and stage configurations to support virtually any style of performance. An elegant, intuitive interface conceals a deceptive level of depth, blending user-friendly arrangements with six distinctive styles of synthesis, allowing you to get as granular as desired in your sound design, but never more than a few steps away from one of its 250 diverse presets. Analog modeling, waveshaping, additive synthesis, and more are always on tap within the synth’s time-bending architecture, and Sweetwater’s synth scholars are especially impressed with its broad range of expressive tools, including assignable, polyphonic, and channel-specific aftertouch. Plus, MIDI 2.0 Property Exchange support means even greater heights of expression to the summit via 30 built-in FX, a polyphonic motion sequencer, a randomizer, and an armature of limitless sonic virtuality begging to be explored.

Pure love

This synth is almost my number 1 synth if not the number 1. It is beyond versatile and honestly pretty easy to use. You will do some menu diving but after you get the hang of it and realize how to start writing your own algorithms, you'll see the creations you can do are limitless. I currently have it connected to my MPC and my DAW and it is fantastic to work with.

Opsix, Great FM format.

By SG
Music Background: 40+ yrs

Lots of great sounds on board and programming your own is very doable. I had an original DX7. Programming nightmare.
The rack mount format is perfect for me, saves desk space. Lots of knobs and buttons… not much menu diving. The designed angle
When you put it on a desk is perfect for reading the screen and seeing all knobs and buttons. There is a little learning curve of course, but lots of YTube tutorials to help out.
It doesnt do everything under the sun, but what it does it does well. Has a nice sequencer/ arpeggiator. It is not multi-timbral, which I didn't care about anyway. I like this module well enough I'm considering the wave station and/ or wavestate modules too. I saw some complaints about the keyboard feel (37 keys) version of the Op6. I'm using a master keyboard so not an issue for me. The FX section is quite good too.
All in all, for the money it's a solid deal. (I got it on a SW holiday sale, but even at reg. Price it's a worthwhile purchase.) imo…

Some of these presets literally brought tears to my eyes as i played them they were so emotionally impressive and i have not even started editing the presets! You can't go wrong with this amazing synth! Congrats Korg you hit a home run on this one! One happy Sweetwater customer and Drew was awesome to work with!
