Cool unit but… Polarity problems

By Sweetwater Customer from CA

If you're planning on using the unit with db25 I recommend using another unit.

Genius Concept but Polarity Issue on Channel 1 through DB25 Input

By Joe P. from Jacksonville, Florida
Music Background: Studio Tech/Musician

I'll start by saying I love the design and functionality of this unit. It adds 8 more channels to my Apollo Twin using the optical input (ADAT Light Pipe). The routing system is also killer with ability to chain channels together and select input/output sources from the front. But, after swapping some preamps around, I found out that channel 1 on my unit has the polarity swapped when using the DB25 input (the XLR input is correct)! This drove me nuts for hours. I swapped preamps, DB25 cables, and even suspected an issue with my patchbay. But direct testing from the DB25 input to the the slot connector proved the issue is the OST-8. I wrote Heritage directly and got this quick response: "There have been some units with that issue....Now, you could contact your dealer regarding a repair/mod concerning this. They should be able to guide you through the process of getting it corrected." I appreciate Heritage's fast response and Sweetwater of course jumped on the problem with their great service team. I am in the process of getting the issue remedied, but this cost me a lot of precious time. I am a bit upset that Heritage knew the problem existed and nothing was done to intercept and test possibly faulty OST-8s. I'm going to keep it once I get the issue sorted out because it is such an awesome device, but if you have one or get one and are using the DB25 Inputs, be sure to test polarity on every slot before loading up your 500 modules!

THIS SOUNDS GREAT!

By Jerry B. from Indiana
Music Background: Music Producer, Recording and Mix Engineer

I was in the market to expand my inputs and wanted to create this hybrid type of recording and mixing. The Heritage OST 8 did the job! I have this hooked up to my Apollo 8 via ADAT and Behringer AD8000. I also got some 500 series mods that I've been looking at. Now I am able to patch and record what ever I need. I noticed the difference right away. Heritage Audio makes good stuff. If you're not sure you want to break the bank for the other ADAT 500 chassis that is more popular. Take a chance on this one. It might be less features but it definitely gets the job done!

Heritage 500 ADAT

By Sam from GEORGETOWN, KY
Music Background: Guitarist, Engineer, Home Studio

I usually don't write reviews, but wanted to share here because it doesn't have many reviews online.

I got into 500 series modules through DIY preamps (CAPI, Hairball, etc). I was running those in a Midas lunchbox and using the preamps on my interface for conversion. I was looking at the other ADAT chassis we've all seen, but honestly didn't need the extra features on it for my current workflow, and the price has gone up on that one recently. I took the leap on this chassis, and it's perfect for my use-case. There's a deceptively high number of routing options in this thing. You get 2 inputs and 2 outputs for each slot, and can choose where the signal gets sent to the converters per-slot; the external input to the converters compounds on that even further. Between the nicer power supply and the converters, the Midas into the Focusrite Claret sounds dead in comparison. This was a great way to add 8 inputs to my modest rig while keeping my routing options wide open for whatever the future holds. Solid build, super well thought out signal flow for smaller rigs, sounds great.
