Dialogue recording made easy
Nuendo 13 includes a bevy of timesaving enhancements for dialogue editors and ADR recording engineers. Tonal Match analyzes the spectral profile and the ambient noise floor of a track and transfers them to other clips. An updated Detect Silence panel enables you to clean up dialogue while retaining background noise for use on a different track. Furthermore, Nuendo 13's Bounce Selection now supports blank audio clips, which are useful for filling gaps or for later offline processing. Here at Sweetwater, we're especially impressed by Steinberg's AI-based Voice Separator plug-in, which can effectively detect and isolate spoken dialogue from complex background noises. You also get a Vocal Chain plug-in with dedicated modules for different steps of voice processing.
Potent features for ADR and dubbing
Engineers, voice actors, and directors will be greatly impressed with Steinberg Nuendo 13's advanced ADR and dubbing features. Rather than relying on an outdated, document-based workflow, Nuendo 13's ADR Script Reader displays ADR takes in a web browser on any device on your network, complete with editing. You can set ADR count-in and swipe options independently, and you can select black picture during pre-roll, regardless of count-in type. You also get extensive TTAL 1.1 support, which accommodates TTAL-based Netflix dubbing workflows, including Forced Narrative and multicharacter attributes.
A new standard for immersive audio
The object-based MPEG-H Audio format is an important component of immersive audio productions, and with Nuendo 13, it's clear that Steinberg has taken this into account. With Nuendo 13, you get an integrated workflow for authoring and mixing MPEG-H Audio content; the DAW's ADM Authoring window offers it as a new format, where you can assign tracks and groups as objects or beds. Nuendo 13's Renderer allows you to export MPEG-H ADM and MPEG-H Master files. You also get a three-layer Z-panning mode for placing objects below your listener, along with support for Dolby Atmos 9.1.6 speaker configurations.
Formidable mixing and sound design
The process of mixing and creating sounds in Steinberg Nuendo 13 is more intuitive than ever, thanks to its overhauled MixConsole, which has been streamlined for more straightforward access to oft-used functions. The Project window's new Channel tab provides you with direct access to all the functions of your channel strip, facilitating lightning-fast adjustments while keeping your eyes on the rest of your project. Nuendo 13's Headphones Match function has also been updated with five new models, bringing its grand total to 390. You also get an inspiring collection of new plug-ins: the Steinberg Vocoder, EQ-P1A and EQ-M5 equalizers, and Black Valve and VoxComp compressors.
Timesaving workflow enhancements
Working in Nuendo 13 is faster than ever, thanks to its many timesaving workflow enhancements. Its Track Version function makes A/B video edit comparisons within a project fast and easy. You can export a new soundtrack directly into an original MP4 video file — no re-rendering required. You can create project templates in stereo and surround up to Dolby Atmos. You get a variety of track import improvements, and you can compare audio events processed with DOP against unprocessed audio events with a simple mouse click. Nuendo 13 enables you to adjust your playback start point in a manner consistent with other DAWs. You can toggle channels between mono and stereo with a single click. You can also zoom vertically with your mouse wheel and take advantage of new key commands. Finally, Nuendo 13 includes a SpectraLayers One update and an upgraded video engine on Windows-based systems.
Inspiring music creation features
Steinberg Nuendo 13 isn't just for post-production; it's also an inspiring music creation tool. You'll definitely appreciate Nuendo 13's Drum Editor and Key Editor enhancements, which enable you to edit multiple parts simultaneously, switch between tracks with the new Visibility tab, and benefit from a bird's-eye view with the new Track display. New presets for chord progressions give you a terrific starting point, and a 5GB Iconica Sketch library allows you to craft ear-grabbing orchestral parts. You also get support for MIDI 2.0, along with enhanced MIDI effects and simplified CC recording. Finally, Nuendo 13 comes with five exclusive sample packs produced by award-winning producer Beat Butcha, a Tap Tempo feature, and expanded return channels.
