Covers All of Your Acoustic Guitar Needs

Centered around a carefully sampled 1973 Martin 00-21 acoustic guitar, Native Instruments Picked Acoustic will cover all of your acoustic guitar needs. This virtual instrument includes two instruments: a pattern-based selection with 194 authentic picking and strumming patterns and another that’s intended for your original melodies. Choose from three microphone setups: a modern stereo condenser array, a vintage-sounding dynamic mic/tube condenser arrangement, and smooth-sounding stereo ribbon format. At Sweetwater, we appreciate this VI’s selectable articulations, such as vibrato, hammer-ons, and pull-offs, as well as its studio-quality effects. Containing both fingerstyle and plectrum variations, Picked Acoustic was performed by a veteran session guitarist and recorded with high-end microphones and outboard gear.

Just what I needed

I am a songwriter using GarageBand as my DAW. I'm happy with many of the instuments available through GB and Logic, but the guitar sounds have been lacking. I spoke with Matt, my adviser about this, and he recommended Native Instuments Session Guitarist - Picked Acoustic. It was easy to download and install, and integrated seamlessly with GB. There are so many sounds and styles to choose from, including basic strumming when that is needed. Also, if you don't want to use a pattern, you can play your own pattern or a lead line. The best part is how the instruments sound. I am a keyboard player, so I don't know how to play guitar, but my songs now sound like they were played on an acoustic guitar! The quality is awesome. There are many ways to augment the preset sounds as well, including different mike choices, effects and outputs. It's easy to use and fun to play with. I can't recommend it enough.

It sounds real

I have been loving my session guitarist!!
I have had several people listen to my music and ask me who did the guitar. They thought it had been played live.

Native Instruments Session Guitar Picked Acoustic

Great sounds, Love it!
Rated 3.5/5

Sounds great but no 3/4 (6/8) timings

The software sounds great and is fairly intuitive, however there are no 3/4 (6/8) timing patterns included except for string scratches and crescendos. A lot of modern-day praise & worship songs are being written in 6/8 (3/4) tempo, and it would be nice to have a few.

How do you stop the pattern?

I got the Native Instruments Picked Acoustic and Electric Sunburst instruments to quickly add guitar tracks to songs. Let me preface this by saying I am a novice at this, so I'm sure I'm making errors due to my steep learning curve, but there are a couple things that have been difficult in these tools. The most frustrating thing is getting the patterns to end. I'm using them in Studio One: I create a score with the chords I want, add a pattern in the guitar track that points to the MIDI key that activates each pattern I mapped in the instrument, and the pattern activates when I play the track in Studio One. The problem is getting them to stop. There are three MIDI notes that are supposed to activate an "end" in the instrument, but the pattern continues after that end has played, so it really isn't an end, it's a fill. That single problem makes these tools almost unusable for me, because I haven't found a way to stop, so I'm really scratching my head. I'm also struggling to determine how I can set volume changes throughout the track. I found a way to do this with the Electric, using pick, mic, and bridge volume, but the Acoustic has eluded me for volume settings. I also wish there were more triplet patterns.
