Punches hundreds of dollars above its price

By Bobo from Mind Fuzz
Music Background: Antenna to the cosmos

This is hands down the best sounding amp in this price range. The reverb is truly incredible. Anywhere from 9:00-2:00 on the dial sounds great and gives your playing just enough dimension. The tremolo has literally set the bar for tremolo tones that I look for in pedals or other amps. The overdrive is fantastic. From a dude who loves pedals, the reverb/trem/overdrive combo in this amp negates the need for any pedals unless you know what fx you want. In other words, this is the ultimate beginner amp for dipping your toes into the world of fx and especially amp-based fx.

The best part, though? This amp head from a $ purchase will be able to connect to almost any amp cab and give you fantastic Vox tones.

$ for this is an absolute steal. Tubes sound great, nutube sounds great, solid state sounds great. Every player who wants a vox tone should consider this amp.

The Real Deal

By Ron D. from Bradford, NY

I purchased this amp and head combo based on previous reviews and you tube videos. I was looking for an amp for clean tones beautiful chime, and versatility. it looks almost toy like when you set it up, that view point disappears when you hear what it can do. This is a serious piece of equipment for what it is designed to do, which is give sparkling performance in a reasonable size space. I am running this in a 12 x 16 room with hard surfaces. The clarity and tone is astounding, even at high volume, with excellent reverb and tremolo functions. I have an Orange micro terror with an Orange 12 which can knock down the walls, but sounds a tad crude by comparison. So for Beatles ,Stones, Beach Boys, Floyd n Zep. this works for me. Black Sabbath, Metallica, Alice in Chains probably the Orange is a bit stronger. A shout out to Mr. Crisp who always checks in to see how I'm doing. Always appreciated. I have been a Sweetwater customer for over 10 years and I can tell you there is no better customer service.

Sounds great!

By Chris D. from Meridian, ID
Music Background: Semi-Pro

I bought this wanting to try out the Vox Tone...the Nutube and I'm pretty happy overall
Light weight!
Small Footprint

But if you really want to make this shine put a EQ pedal in front of it and it will sound like a 12in speaker...with a little eq'ing
Nice retro looking amp!

dynomite!

By DReDGe from SC
Music Background: raised by the angels chior, committed to the demons band

the sound of this tiny amp head will blow you away. its not just the volume level but the tone and quality in the output.the array of equalization, the reverb fx and the switch controls that give you an even broader spectrum of frequencies to express the voice in your mind and make music to your ears. it weighs almost nothing, it looks like a precision crafted scale model only smaller and better.and like i said it packs one hell of a punch.. like a stick of dynomite! in the right hands it can cause some serioous damage and open the way to a whole new level of creativity.its only drawback is also its biggest draw, the cabinet leaves you with a limited range of bottom end, its mid and high range make up for it at its low and up to 3\4 volume levels but past that the bass is just not strong enough to punch through,at full volume theere is a little buzz that comes from the cabinet. i thiink if not for the rail cage to set the head unit on tat it would knock it right off the top. i am going to try modifying the cab to handle and posibblly project the low end as much as possible by gluing an batting the cab as well as sealing up the back and giving it a port for better cone response/movement. i can run it through a half stack of 12s or a whole, and it does fine through my 2 15 bass extention cabs. it would be cool if it had an fx loop but it does fine with them direct in with everything flat across the control knobs. its definetly an authentic sounding vox

Vox Supermini Beetle

By Gene M.

I bought this amp today and am more than impressed with it. It's exactly what I was looking for. It's perfect for my small practice room, but has a bigger sound than the size. I plugged in my Fender Strat and with the reverb, tremolo and gain I was able to get all of the tones I've been wanting without any pedals. If you're a beginner to intermediate player like myself or just looking for a great sounding practice amp, you can't beat it.

Brilliant!

By Ryan from SLC, UT

I bought into the YouTube hype around this cute little Vox and let me tell you.. it's all true! This tiny little stack is a tone machine. It's also extremely loud. Way more bass on tap than I was expecting. This is a fun piece of gear I'm stoked to own it!

I bought this thing because it looks cool, God knows I didnt need more amps!
I Love this little amp! play it everyday. It has got some serious Giddy Up! It takes pedals
well. I have'nt tried a 4x12 yet, but I did plug it in to a 2x12.... and it sounds amazing. Easily loud
enough to gig a small club. I would reccomend a bigger cabinet if your gonna play loud, The speaker starts
to break up once you hit about 12 O'clock on the volume. I use it as my kitchen amp. I love this little girl, thinkin' about getting another one,
If I can figure out how to hide it from my wife!!!
Awesome little amp. If you're on the edge....JUMP.

Fun Little Amp!

By Jim C. from Howey In The Hills, FL
Music Background: Recording Musician

First off this amp is very cute. Having a tiny Vox in the studio is very cool. Sound-wise the tone is good with the stock cabinet, but really shines when using an aftermarket cabinet. I hooked up to a single 15" and it became a tone monster! Not really a gigging amp but definitely fun to record. The reverb and tremolo sound great as well. Good deal at this price point.

Much More Than I Expected

By Mark D. from Seminole, FL
Music Background: Play drums and guitar in a locally gigging band (Rewind)

I have a music studio crammed full of guitars, amps, keyboards, drums and a ton of rock'n'roll memorabilia. I originally bought this amp more as a novelty being a huge Beatles fan, but was very surprised how good the amp sounds. It has something called a "Nutube" which they only go into minor description of saying it has a 'grid, filament, etc.' like a real tube, but it starts like a solid state amp. The sound is surprisingly similar (not the same) to my Vox AC15. Good reverb and again surprisingly great sounding 10" Celestion speaker.

Sounds great but times out ?

By Sweetwater Customer

For some reason if I stop playing for a few minutes in between songs I go back over an amp has shut itself off I'm wondering maybe this thing has some kind of feature on it that times out if it's not being used sure would hate for that to happen live at a gig

I own and gig with it.

By Sweetwater Customer

This little amp sounds great.. I run my amp through the PA, so I wanted something with a small footprint on stage. This thing fits the bill..but for an acoustic or country band like mine, this thing will hold its own without being mic'd up, I don't mix it when we rehearse.

Pairs great with a CAB

By Neil from San Francisco
Music Background: Experienced Hobbyist

I loved this amp from the start. I have another modeling amp, but really wanted something with a tube sound that I could dial in manually. This amp really fits the bill. I can really get some great classic tones with this amp and it is so cool looking. I got a great deal on a Harley Benton 1 x 12 Vintage with a Celestion, and decided to pair it with this head. It was then that I realized what an amazing amp this really is. It has plenty of juice to drive the large cab and the clean is so damned punchy. Love this amp! You can't power both cabs though. The smaller one sounds just a little boxy at higher gain and volume. But if anyone is wondering if it will work with a large cab, that's an affirmative!

Quintessential Vox tones, but not as good of a pedal platform as its all tube brothers

By Dan from New Orleans, LA
Music Background: Gear Nerd / Hobbyist

If you want to nail the vox tone and like to plug straight into the amp, the Mini Superbeetle is going to be a helluva great amp for you. However, while the NuTube does a great job of providing rich overdriven tones as you crank the gain knob, the Superbeetle can be quite finnicky if I put heavier distortion and fuzz pedals in front of it. A light/medium overdrive pedal with the gain knob turned as low as it will go does provide me with the ability to color the tone of this amp in whichever direction the pedal is designed for. When it comes to pedals that are for effects, this amp has no problems at all and takes em like a champ.

Onboard it has a very dynamic digital reverb that goes from a subtle color when low, to full on cacophonous insanity. As compared to the all tube AC series with spring reverb tanks (I own an AC15), I much prefer the digital reverb in the Superbeetle. It also has a one knob tremolo which gets the job done, but I would have been happier if they broke that one knob into two for depth and speed.

Form factor can't be beaten. If you have 18" of space on the floor, you've got room for authentic Vox tone. It's also incredibly lightweight for the power it can crank, I love that about this amp. It's found a home in the back hobby room of my house where space is at a premium. My big boys live in the front room where there's space for big cabinets.

Overall I give the Superbeetle 5 stars for getting everything about the Vox tone correct (have I said this already???), but I am let down that its not quite the versatile pedal platform that my AC15 is. For this reason I'm knock off 1 star, but keep in mind that I still like it a lot and can jam to my heart's content... so long as Vox amp tone is the flavor of the session.

The ultimate rec room amp

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Hobbyist

First, a disclaimer: I'm a purely recreational guitarist. I play for my own enjoyment, and no other reason. I'm never going to play a gig outside my home, so all I care about is an amp that makes the sounds I want for a price I like, and won't unduly annoy the neighbors. This amp delivers all of that in spades. It delivers a fantastic clean tone, and when you throw a little dirt on it, the Superbeetle delivers a great bluesy, classic-rock tone. This thing is, first and foremost, a vibe machine. We love it!

Should be everyone's first amp

By JD from CO
Music Background: Hobbyist

I bought this in an effort to find a reasonably priced practice amp without too many features -- I get caught up fiddling around with tones and presets on modeling and other feature-rich practice amps to the detriment of, well, actually practicing.

This was exactly what I was looking for and much, much more. It sounds legitimately fantastic for being so small, well-priced, and kinda gimmicky looking. My main amp is a Victory V40, which I love dearly and sounds amazing, but at around five times the price the difference from that to the Vox isn't as noticeable as you might think. To be fair, I changed the speaker in my Vox to a Celestion, which made a significant improvement.

The clean and reverb sound really nice and the gain goes from fattening up the cleans, then into early breakup that is about as convincing a tube breakup as I've heard without any actual tubes, and then into a satisfying vox-like crunch. This is what, to me, makes it a perfect practice/beginner amp -- you get to explore how to get a variety of good sounds out of your amp without being distracted by thousands of pre-sets or effects and without the complication/expense/maintenance of an actual tube amp. And it all happens at very reasonable bedroom volumes (or through a headphones.)

Pros
-Easy to use
-Great tone for the price
-Really nice reverb
-Good overdriven/crunch tones
-Sounds good at low volume

Cons
-Tremolo isn't useable
-Distortion washes out on higher gain settings
-Would be nice if they used a slightly bigger cab with better materials to allow the low end to come through more
-That power light really needs to tone it down a notch

Small Footprint, Big Sound

By Gregory B. from Florida

It took me a while before I actually got a chance to plug it in and test it, but at last I did. I purchased it because I got tired of practicing through headphones so I hooked up my Ric 360 6-string and was amazed at the range of sound that came from a 10" speaker. There is plenty of room for EQ adjustment and the reverb sounds good. Obviously, this does not perform as well as the old tube amps, but for solid state, it is great. (I am an old fart and, in the 60's, actually played through the original Super Beatle Amps). I believe that one could actually use it on stage at a medium venue. VOX has nothing to be embarrassed about with this mini! If you want to transport it routinely a cabinet cover is highly advised to avoid damage to the exposed speaker in the rear of the cabinet.

Too Much Fun

By Kelley from Texas
Music Background: Goofing around

I came across a deal on an MSB in British Racing Green and I had to get it. This thing is a lot of fun. I have owned a Marshall MG15 microstack several years ago but I don't usually play electric guitar. I got this on a whim and yesterday I received my new Epiphone Les Paul in worn purple burst and today I really got to play around some. It goes louder than I will take it to in my apartment but I was able to push it into some fun distortion. I put the volume at about 9:00 and cranked the gain to max. I put bass and treble at 12:00 and turned up both tone knobs on the LP. I think I had both volumes of the guitar cranked to max also. With humbuckers it really sounded chunky. With the coils split it quoted down and cleaned up a bit. I like the reverb pretty good too. The tremolo seemed to have a bigger effect yesterday but I had the gain down and ran a clean sound just for a few minutes. I am really into the AC30 sound and also Fender tweeds. I can't wait to really experiment with this one and see how it does. At this price I don't think anyone could go wrong here. If Vox releases an AC4 head in BRG sign me up

Excellent

By Brent

I tried one of these at the store and was pretty impressed with the sound and went home to do some 'research' on it. I sort of forgot about it for a year, then came upon a used head only, and bought it and paired it with a 2x12 cab I already had. I'm super impressed with the sound. Even my wife looked up and told me how nice and clear it sounded.

I have been able to test it @ 8ohms, but could not turn it up past half on the volume. That is only the 25 watt setting and it was super loud.. way gig-able.

For an at home amp, it is splendid and draws way less power than a tube amp would.

I think it should record well, but haven't done that part yet.

Poor man's AC30 that is manageable.

There is a reason this is a 5 star rated product.

Sounds like my Vox AC4! Looks great! No negatives. I love tube amps and have had several, but if you get tube sound with less weight and maintenance what could be better? Reverb and tremolo sound good. Great bang for your buck. Also sounds good through headphones. Thanks to rep Logan Miller for helping me make this decision.

Nice practice amp with eye candy appeal

By Alan M. from CA

Even though I'm a Variax|Helix player (using a powered PA Yamaha speaker as my "amp"), I missed having an amp in my main room, ready to play at any time. After some research and checking reviews on Sweetwater, I picked the Vox Mini Superbeetle. It sounds "Vox-y"enough and with onboard tremelo and reverb, and in general is quite classic sounding. For me it easily conjures up '60s tones with ease.
A quick note: take the time to look carefully at the back when hooking up your speaker as the headphone jack! The real speaker outputs are in line horizontally with the headphone output. In my defense, it was dark in the corner when I set up the amp but still...dumb! Though the headphone output actually drove the speaker cabinet, it clearly didn't sound right. When I fired up my iPhone's 'flashlight' and looked around the back, I could see that I wasn't using the speaker outputs...
All is well though and no damage done.

Highly recommend this amp and the only reason for a lack of a full 5 stars is that it's a tad darker sounding than I'd expect for a Vox. However, that's a minor complaint in the grand scheme of things!

I don't care what your favorite brand is you won't find a better sounding or looking amp in this price category. Be warned it's loud but also sounds awesome at bedroom levels. Real VOX Sound

By Todd from Madison, WI
Music Background: 45 years

Merry Christmas to me. This little thing really has a lot of VOX punch. I dare you to tell the difference between the NuTube and the Old Tubes. I started out clean with Beatles (Gretsch), then CCR (Les & Rick), then Tom Petty (Rick) and was Tearing up some Robin Trower (all Strat of course) at the end. Just kept turning the gain up a notch. Gonna see what it sounds like through my Marshall 4x12. Wow, I'm impressed.

Mini SuperBeetle

By Mike from St. Louis
Music Background: Played keyboards and guitar in a band while in high school back in the late 60's.

This little amp packs quite a wallop for it's size. I'm using it as a practice amp in the den, and it's golden for that! It's sitting happily right next to my AC30S1, and certainly looks the part. This little thing chimes just like an AC30, but at bedroom volume. Perfect.

Back in high school ('68, '69), I had a giant Super Beatle with my Vox Continental organ. Man, that thing was loud, but not nearly as good for guitar as an AC30 (or this MSB25).

My favorite guitar sound is a warm clean, with a little hair on it when the strings are hit hard. Up till now only the AC30 would suffice, but now I have that same joyful sound in the den at a fraction of the volume (and cost). Considering the stellar sound of the MSB25, the price is a no-brainer bargain. Thanks again to Philip Courtney for making the purchase and delivery fast and easy.

Mini but Mighty

By Drew from Ohio

I've been searching for a smaller amplifier recently and after trying out many different set ups this one came out as the winner. This thing is a beast, it may look small but it puts out surprising amount of volume and is very full sounding. The controls are very simple and it is easy to dial in a nice sound very quickly. The tremolo and reverb are pretty basic, but they add a lot of atmosphere to your sound. This was a perfect fit for my set up.

I got this because I thought it looked cool. However, it is a very good amp that sounds as good as it looks. It accepts pedals well, has a nice built in reverb, and is very light. I'm an old guy, and light is now optimal. The gain is very tube sounding, and I am excited to try it out live. It offers great sound with plenty of bottom end which is surprising for it's size. More than pleased.

Sounds as good as it looks

By Paul from Phoenix

I bought this as a "Demo" or "open box" and have zero issues. It's like new and I saved a few bucks! I'm a Fender guy so it was a little adjustment getting use to the Vox sound but after spending some time with it I found some really great tones adjusting volume vs gain. Sounds better with my Les Paul and and the reverb and tremolo are fantastic! I set it on a stylish little box to elevate a little. I'm not going to go on and on about the sound or whatever as everyone plays different but I'm more than satisfied and if your teetering on this purchase just buy it. It's so fun! My only, only complaint is that I'd like to have had a 12 inch speaker in it.

Keybordist' need to read this!

Music Background: Playing "Classic Rock" since they were on the Top Ten!

I'm a keyboardist first off but most of us double on Git when needed. We keyboardist' have a nightmare already getting our keyboard rigs fitted out to taste. (Try 3 boards, two outs each, different needs for each one...You get the picture...) The last thing I needed was to lug a bulky guitar amp around. Saw this amp and really just got it because it looked so cool and would have it as a home decoration. Well, after hearing and using it at one of our medium sized gigs it's a keeper! I now tuck it, my Tele, and the speaker under my arm and guitar-wise I'm loaded in. One of the best things I noticed about this set up is how the Gain works with the Volume. Every other amp I tried there was no happy medium between these two. Either too much of one or the other or harsh humming and buzzing. On this amp/speaker these actually work together rather than fighting each other. Has the perfect Tele twang settings but also a great bottom end when needed. So there ya go keyboardist', THIS is the one!

Unbelievable!

By Jon from Georgia
Music Background: Musician and certifiable gear addict for over 20 years! Former guitarist for original music bands Dragonfly and Daybreaker, currently guitarist in 60's and 70's British themed cover band Groove Britannia

Well I have been super excited to get my hands on this amp since it was announced at NAMM, and it landed on my doorstep today! I own an AC30 which I still consider to be the gold standard by which all amps are judged, but playing in clubs and bars I was looking for something a little smaller I could crank a little more. I am absolutely 100% blown away by this amplifier!! If I were going in blind I would swear it was a regular tube amp! It has an incredibly full tone, very rich sounding without any of that nasty harshness transistor amps typically have. However these Nutubes work is like magic to me. It is wonderfully touch sensitive, and surprisingly loud! I tried each of my main three stage guitars thru it (Epiphone Custom Shop SG, Squier 70's Vintage-mod Stratocaster and Danelectro electric 12 string) and each one sounded excellent. On board reverb sounds great, and the tremelo goes VERY fast. I am floored, could not be happier with this amp...cant wait to take it to a gig!
As always a big thank you to my sales rep Ben Robinson for taking care of me and making sure the minute these babies came in the door I had one headed my way! Sweetwater is THE way to shop for gear online

Defies The Natural Order.

By Travis J.
Music Background: Songwriter, Band, studio

First off, there is no store or service better than Sweetwater. "Expertly guiding my wife in music purchases for years." In regards to this amp, I"ll add the below.

I don"t write reviews, never have. I own a Handwired Vox AC15 (from Sweetwater) and my standby Fender DeVille 2x12. Small tours, clubs, studio with most of my gear. Amps aren"t supposed to "feel good" sans traditional tube pre/post. Reverb isn"t supposed to have "the vibe" without the spring unit. Speakers aren"t supposed to incite your adrenaline unless they"re "this size or that brand." Wrong. Mostly.

Power on, plug in Fender Jazzmaster. The intoxicating Vox chime is there with bite to boot. Gibson ES 335 all air, with a side of humbucker beef. Adrenaline, check. Realistically, are you going to get the full bodied sound replicated from your half stack, AC 30 combo or Fender Twin Reverb? Not really, but that"s not the point of this mini-super rig. Get one for your office, get one for your living room, get one for the studio or that chill gig at the coffee house or local bar. You will be 1. Smiling 2. Jaw kind of open thinking "nah man, not from a 10." Point being you will be a satisfied player. Side note, if you play other amps and never owned a Vox, congrats! Your gateway drug has arrived. Keep going out there, everyone.

Excellent Amplifier

By Tom from Nashville, TN
Music Background: Veteran guitarist and songwriter

I first tried the Vox Mini Superbeetle mini stack at the 2018 Summer NAMM show in Nashville. I fell in love with its great tones, and was thoroughly impressed with the on-board reverb and tremolo - both have a great vintage feel and sound without being overbearing, unlike many effects pedals. I was having so much fun that the Vox guys video taped me for nearly 30 minutes, LOL. I pre-ordered, and mine arrived today. I used it in a 3 hour band rehearsal tonight, and it really stood out - the whole band was digging the sound I was getting!

Having had a Vox MV50 for the last two years (along with my AC10 and my Night Train), I was already quite familiar with Vox's NuTube technology; and in my opinion, it become even better in this latest offering. The tone has the warmth of a classic tube Vox amp in a small, neat package.

Many of the venues we perform at have very small, tight stages, but have medium size rooms to which you have to project the sound. The Mini Superbeetle has the compact size for the restricted stage space, and paired with the 8 ohm 10" speaker, it has plenty of power for those small and medium sized rooms. I call this amp a big win for Vox.

Vox Mini Super Beetle

By Jeff from North Carolina
Music Background: Guitarist, acoustic and electric

I saw this amp when first released by Vox and pre-ordered it. It arrived last Friday and I am totally impressed.

I needed an amp that I could use in the very small confines of our band pit at church. I play electric guitar and our band performs a wide variety of music from softer ballad types to faster upbeat music with a variety of instruments and full choir.

Yesterday I used my Vox for the first time. I was extremely pleased. I used the 4ohm setting with the flat switch setting. I set the reverb on 10:00 and adjusted my gain, tone and volume to suit my ears. Our song selection yesterday was primarily upbeat with a few quiet interludes. I have a high end Epiphone Les Paul that I used only the rear pickup. This worked great for me for the song selections. Plenty of volume with just a bit of edge. And it cut right through the mix. I wasn't sure if the Nu-Tube technology would provide me with a sound I would like but I can say I am pleasantly surprised. Plus, the amp sounds great when just playing clean. Next week I am going to try my Charvel with the amp. However, I am expecting great things then too.

I also own a Vox AC15C1 and Roland Cube amp. Both are great amps that I love but size wise their ability to be used is limited in my situation. So, again, size and sound of the Vox Mini- plus a great cost/performance ratio- pulled me in for the purchase.

The amp looks well built and there is a lot of attention to detail. There is no appreciable background noises such as crackle or hiss. The amp works well with my effects too. I believe this would be a great amp for recording also.

Thanks to my sales rep/tech expert/friend, Chris Kress. I have been shopping with Sweetwater for approx two years now and have been very pleased with Chris and his attention to providing great customer service.

Again, very pleased with the Vox Mini Super Beetle.
