Sennheiser MKE 600 Shotgun Condenser Microphone Reviews
Sennheiser's short shotguns have been fixtures on location and soundstages worldwide for decades, and they know a thing or two about production audio. The Sennheiser MKE 600 is a versatile supercardioid short shotgun mic that lets you boom or camera mount, as the shot dictates. Get into tight spaces on the set, and if a shot (or an entire production) calls for a camera-mounted mic, you can still capture the same world-class audio with the Sennheiser MKE 600.

Outstanding shotgun microphone
5/5 Hands down the best shotgun in a budget.
Better "budget" 416 alternative. Seriously.
It might seem like and over statement but the truth is this little guy performs exceptionally well especially if you know how to tweak and process your audio.
The versatility, the quality, makes it the ideal shotgun mic of choice. (Just my opinion).
Just because it is affordable it doesn't mean it's cheap. Does that make sense?
In comparison against a 416 sound wise the 600 is bit "thin sounding" but that is easily solved by EQing the right frequencies in.
In short, it will surpass all your expectations mis Amigos!
Excellent Mic
Love this mic, does exactly what it should, good clean sound and a great addition to the collection
Good mic
It's a good sg mic. It also arrived crazy early, like within about 40 hours from when I ordered it.
MKE 600 SHOTGUN MIC
Just spent nine days filming with this shotgun mic and it did really well. I ran it through a Sound Devices Mixpre 6 and the tandem sounds pretty incredible. For the price it's a really impressive mic.
Great shotgun!
Great sounding, feels sturdy, will be using it all over the place.
Make 600
Works and sounds great just like I expected it to.
Thanks
Wonderful mic
I originally wanted to purchase the MKH 416, but I'm very happy I went with the 600. It records just as well at half the price. I highly recommend!
Great sound
Full, powerful sound.
MKE 600 Shotgun Condenser Mic.
Bought two of these. They are a Fantastic product, works beyond expectations. The singers must give a little help in order for them to produce the results needed.
The sales team worked great with me, I would definitely recommend Sweetwater for all audio visual needs.
great microphone
i was indeed blown away testing this microphone with my tascam dr44 wl. first of all the low noise floor, second the output it has, way more than the rode ntg 2 which i owned and actually never used for any project. last thing i loved was when i edit it in post, it becomes better instead of worse, i see it like a big raw file using post on a picture. well the settings were 24 bit and 96 khz. the sound comes out nicely raw but it is still somehow flat, in fcpx i add brightness and bass boost and it sounds great, in Audacity i took away nearly all the noise floor, which was already acceptable from the flat file! i somehow can't stand anymore microphones with this hiss and anoying noisefloor, i used to hear example videos with great crispy audio and in terms of noise nicely clear, i could never achieve that with the cheaper entry microphones. putting a decent budget for your audio equipment is a very important thing. And i consider this tool as the best price quality shotgun microphone for starters, and this Microphone might even out perform some other more expensive Microphones, It sounds really Like a Profesional tool!
Suprsed Me
It was a tossup between this and the MKH 416. I was looking at this one because it got really great reviews too and it was more within my budget. And it did not disapppoint. It is battery powered but can also run on phantom if needed and it works just like a super-cardioid microphone should.
Superior Mic within a budget
I have been renting the Sennheiser ME66/K6 for the last 12 years for weddings and events. Finally, I bought the MKE-600 which is excellent quality, lightweight and crystal clear sound. It meets and exceeds my expectation. Thanks to my Sales Engineer, Jay Fredrick who shared his years of experience in the field of video and audio production and recommending this great shotgun mic.
MKE 600 for Film
This is a great sounding microphone. I have been using this mic now for about 6 months now and I have to say, "it really does a great Job". Before my purchase I listened to several shotgun mics and came to the conclusion that this was the best sounding to my eras, regardless the price. It has a nice full sound as other mics were noisey and thin. If you are looking for a nice mic to capture dialog, I would really go with this one. For the price, i don't think it gets better!
Most Impressed
I am pleasantly surprised by the MKE 600's ability to control sound quality in an amateur sound proofed roof. I needed a Shot gun Mic to record for film, but mostly in poorly sound proofed settings. Suffice it to say it has held it's own. Well done Sennheiser
Decent Mic For the Price
I did a shootout between this mic and the Audio Technica AT897. This mic beat the latter to me. There are a couple of issues with the mic, but if you know about them, you can avoid the problems. As far as the pickup goes at a distance, i felt the mic did VERY well. In my video review, we went outside on a NOISY street and tested in 3 foot increments (from 3' to 15') The MKE600 was still clear at 15 feet outdoors. Not so much on the AT897.
A drawback to this (and other sennheiser mics as you can see in the video) is that it suffers from a ground issue that the AT897 didn't. If you are using a camera with a polarized but not grounded power source, there is significant hum/buzz. Running off battery power (on the camera, i didn't test with internal AA battery), you'll be fine as far as the noise goes. The MKE200 suffers from this same issue.
Solid Choice for Voice Acting
This mic was bought as an alternative and first step up to the more costly MKH 416. I was hesitant to purchase at first because of the wide spread in cost between the two. I was concerned that this mic would not perform at a professional level and may not have the noise rejection or clean tone needed for voice work.
It has been a solid choice for both audiobook narration and commercial VO work.
The mic is very quiet with no discernible onboard noise. It rejects noise from the side and rear very well.
Many reviews noted it is a bit darker the the 416, but for me this has worked well. I don't see it being too warm. I don't notice any muddiness; it records with a clean, natural representation of my voice.
I don't use the battery option for phantom power. Instead I rely on the phantom power provided by my interface. I recommend an interface with a solid preamp. Obviously lesser quality preamps are going to impact your potential for quality sound from the mic.
If you are looking for a budget minded shotgun option to use in your vocal booth, I recommend giving the MKE600 a try.
Excellent
Not much more to say that hasn't been said. Excellent Mic for an on camera shotgun. I used it this past weekend as a handheld (with a shock mount) for on street interviews and as a boom . mic worked great and sounded great
Natural
This is my go to for natural voices. I use it for podcasts, audiobooks, voice overs... all great. I also like it for acoustic guitar when going for a straight forward clean and natural sound. That's mostly how I've used it so far.
Good mic
I'm a big fan of the results I get from this mic. Not a big fan of the sound straight out of it, it does take some post processing to get where I want it.
Great starting shotgun microphone.
Great mic - Buy a clip
This is a great mic. I tried three other "economy" shotguns (
Solid Shotgun Mic
Has great low noise that I really wanted in a shotgun. However, is awful, as all mics are, when plugged into a DSLR's mic input. The preamp on all dslr's suck, so definitely get yourself a professional recorder with good preamps!
Great Mic for The Price
Good solid Sennheiser product with decent sound, just what I needed to replace an old broken, too many times repaired 25 year old Sennheiser ME80
Short shotgun mic for DSLR greatly improves audio
The DSLR cameras do not capture great audio, but adding the Sennheiser MKE 600 short shotgun mic allows me to capture audio at weddings that is more than adequate. I was surprised how good the quality was. I captured audio several different ways, but I didn't need to substitute the other audio for my DSLR and worry about synching because the audio thru the shotgun mic was good enough.
switches RATTLE with movement!
I want to like this microphone so much. internal battery, low cut switch, Sennheiser sound. the problem with mine is that it RATTLES when I move it suddenly (like when I have it on a boom pole and am cueing actors). IMO that makes it useless, I'm gonna try taping over the switches as I'm pretty sure that's where the rattling is coming from, but then I won't be able to use the switches. really lax build quality for Sennheiser. I guess if you're using it for ADR or something it would be fine, but If you're considering putting this on a boom pole, save your money.
TERRIBLE MIC
This shotgun microphone is not good at all does not work properly and is sold for way more then it should be
