I've been playing for 30+ years and doing manual labor for 20+. My hands aren't what they used to be. Granted, I could barely assemble the cords and hooks and I was using channel locks to finish closing them. Even with the help of power tools this was a solid hour install, maybe more. If I have to do this again I'll go to the ends of the earth to find the other brand that screws on with 2 screws. I don't think I could physically get through installing another one of these mounts.

I have an older Ludwig kit (1960's) at my studio.

We have a small hole, and it's hard to get a standard kick mic in place.

I used this to mount an AKG D112 into this kick drum. It holds the microphone in place nicely. It holds the microphone in place, and it was really easy to position this in place.

I purchased the Kelly Shu kit mainly because the way I mic my bass drum now presents a slight hassle. I have the resonant head with a small hole in it to allow micing of the drum. It was a little time consuming to stick the mic inside the drum and trying to place it properly. The placement could be done but it took a little effort on my end. Typically the mic would fall off the holder inside the drum so it would have to be removed and the process started all over again. the Kelly Shu kit (as advertised) does not take any type of modification to the drum set for installation. I watched "Sweetwater's" Nick doing the video and it really helped me to install the product easily. Now that the kit is installed in the bass drum I have the mic also installed. To make hookups easier I will leave the mic cable hooked into the mic in the bass drum and just grab the mic cable from inside the drum and run it to the PA board. Very simple. I would recommend the Kelly Shu product to any drummer thinking about micing the bass drum.

Installation and building those stretch cords took a minute, but if you watch the Sweetwater video for installation, it is right on. Great job Sweetwater! I have a double bass setup. Using this suspension system has negated all the feedback created inside the kick drums due to my prior mic placement - 4" hole/port in the resonant heads. The suspension system went together just as the video depicted. The full-size Sure kick drum mic balanced perfectly on the mount. While I slightly doubted the cut lengths for the cords; if you follow instructions they fit perfectly just as directed. My mic setup includes an Avantone Pro Kick Dynamic mic outside the resonant heads of both kick drums, with a "Y" XLR adapter between the inside and outside mics into a single mixer input. My band, Benevolent Reprisal, is mostly a 90s Rock Cover Band delving often into new/different genres; it's "All About that Bass".

Makes my kick sound great! Very easy to get that click sound using this unit. I have it paired with an audix d6. Can't go wrong with this....
