Perfect!

Music Background: BA in instrumental music, I have played in performing groups since 1962, as a guitarist, and predominately a bassist. Currently performing in a church praise team and in the pit orchestra for the musical Matilda.

Very happy with this purchase. The Korg metronome is easy to use, looks great sitting on the piano, and due to Sweetwaters excellent customer service, arrived in time for Christmas. Thanks to my personal rep Charlie Davis. It doesn't get any better.

KORG KDM 3

By Russell G. from Ocean View, NJ

Recently purchased a Nord Stage 4 digital piano and also bought the KDM 3 which works perfectly with the Nord. You simply plug the metronome into the eighth inch monitor in port on the back of the Nord. The KDM 3 can then be easily controlled on the device, itself. It is sturdy, small , plays lots of rhythms and has a nice assortment of voices. Since the Nord has a separate headphone input, it works great with my headphones or through my speakers. I had a Roland which had a nice built in metronome, but I hated shifting between sounds and the metronome. With its small size , it fits nicely right on the edge of my Nord music stand. For those who use a metronome a lot, this product is a time saver and a great product.

Easy to adjust the BPM. It has a decent volume but I'm a drummer so I mostly rely on the flashing light to keep time. I find it helpful when practicing rudiments and such. Recommended.

It's a metronome with a slight personality disorder.

By Glenn M. from Loveland, CO

It's a metronome and it works. The shape of the knob for bpm could be better. It's square and short. You need to grab it with your fingertips. It can be be difficult to change the tempo if you're reaching from your chair as the metronome is light and it tends to slide away. Of course if I can touch the knob I could be not so incredibly lazy, pick the thing up and change the tempo. The batteries could be a lot easier to get out for replacement. Maybe an attached ribbon. Just thinking I need to go find some ribbon. Last one is not a complaint just a personal perversion, a backlight would be nice. I'm often in fairly low lighting when I'm playing. Have it come on when I change tempo then it could shut itself off.
In the end it's a metronome and it works as advertised and works for me so I won't be replacing it.

I haven't found anything I don't like about this metronome

By Fred
Music Background: Semi-pro

My FAVORITE metronome is a mechanical. Hands down. The sound, the feel, the look - just love it. But it has to be 100% perfectly level or it "swings." So, as a lot of people have, I've used electronic for many years.

I wouldn't say that I've "worn out" electronic metronomes, but I've gone through at least 3 or 4. Probably due to me not treating them very kindly and mindlessly tossing them into a bag or case. They've all been fairly standard: turn a dial to get clicks. Some have a better sound than others, but they all do (did) essentially the same thing.

I love this Korg. The click sounds can be changed to one that (to me) most resembles a clave, or at least isn't an electronic beep. I wish it could have a more "traditional" tick, but this is fine. Non-standard time signatures (up to 9/4), subdivisions, clave rhythms - all useful and easy to pull up. It doesn't do offbeat accents or anything like that, but other than the novelty of it, I can't see that I'd get that much use out of it. To get just the lower click, you choose 0/4, and to get just the higher clicks you choose '1/4'. Not really mentioned in the manual, so that's a bonus for reading my review.

And, sure, why not say it: It looks great. It just looks like it belongs in a music room.

Cheap plastic?

By Luke D. from Ukiah, California
Music Background: Drum player

This metronome feels like it would break into a bunch of pieces if I accidentally dropped it on a hard floor. Internally it does its job in keeping simple metronomic time but looks and feels and probably is very cheap plastic. I don't remember if I looked at any reviews before I bought it but it probably shouldn't cost anymore than $25. Overpriced!

Does only the right things!

By Brad from Portland, OR
Music Background: Professional guitarist since 1980

I bought the Korg KDM-3 so I could have a simple metronome that allowed for accented beats. I didn't want a elaborate programmable beast, and my trusty old-school metronomes just clicked with no indication of accents to indicate time signature.

The KDM-3 does just what I need, loud and clear. Setting tempos and signatures is easy and intuitive, and it puts out a LOT of sound when you need it. The display is easy to read, and the stop/start button on the top is a small stroke of genius. Highly recommended for any practicing player!

The only metronome I'll buy or recommend for my students

By Marjorie L. from Virginia
Music Background: DMA

I was already a fan of KDM-2, but this updated version is even better! The thriple A batteries last forever, unlike the 9 volt more familiar models that have to be replaced frequently. The volume control has a wonder range that fits all study, class, etc. sitautions. It's a perfect metronome.

Very good

By Sweetwater Customer

It works very well; it's easy to change the tempo, volume, number of beats, and so on. It would be nice if you could count a measure with subdivisions -- for example, a measure of 4/4 by pairs 8th notes, or a measure of 6/8 by triplets of 8th notes. Also, the timing selection descends from "0" beats to measure to the less common subdivisions to 8th notes -- it would be nice if it descended from 0 to two 8th notes first. Those are just minor preferences. Overall, it's a great tuner.

Great replacement for my old one. Has a lot of really useful features that I am still adjusting to using. The only concern I have, which on me, is getting used to the sounds offered with the metronome, after being used to the one and only click, click, click of the others. Nice outfit.

Perfect little metronome

By Cliff P. from Missouri
Music Background: Pretty new

I've resisted using one of these for quite some time but have recently been convinced they are necessary. This one includes a timer which is quite handy for the practice routine I've come to use. It's loud enough to be clearly heard over headphones and apparently can be connected to your amp for guitar, although I haven't needed that feature yet. It's small enough to perch easily on your keyboard, or pretty much anywhere else for that matter. It's pricer than many but, for me, it's perfect.

By Jack
Music Background: Piano/drums/songwriter 30+ years

Drooling over amps and cabinets. Coveting that new synth with a million features. Desiring that hot- looking guitar to complete your collection. How about that maple-shell drum kit. It's all good. Sometimes it's something that is overlooked that makes a difference. Every musician from newbie to rock star should be using a time piece when practicing. It.is essential. This Korg digital metronome is awesome! Keeps count whether it's 4/4 or 12/8. Choice of tones for the click. Tap count feature. Headphone out (or feed to your amp). Volume control. Small footprint. Full spectrum of tempos. Timer function..For the money this has the versatility and features you can't get with a traditional pendulum metronome. I play piano and drums. I can take the headphones off now and use a practice pad for stick work. Or separate the click from my sounds so they're not smooshed together in the cans. You work can really benefit from a decent metronome. This is it. It's also a great gift idea for someone who doesn't know what to get a musician without breaking the bank. And batteries included.

A top quality metronome.

By John B. from Oklahoma
Music Background: Professional

A great metronome. Made in Vietnam and not China. I had purchased it mainly because my 30-year-old Seiko can sound a bit brash, and I wanted to try something with a more comfortable tone. The Korg has some good sounds on it that fulfill that need, with a number of potentially useful options for some situations. It can be set to use standard metronome tempos. Plenty of volume, and while the tone is comfortable, it is still easy to hear against my screaming flute or guitar.

It's much smaller than I expected. I kind of wish they would have put rubber pads on all four feet, not just the front two. And it can feel a little unstable, though it isn't really, in that it can tip forward a bit if you pull at all when tapping the top buttons. It's an occasionally awkward feeling about it, but doesn't seem to be of much consequence.

I wouldn't get rid of my old Seiko, which was still made in Japan, but the Korg is a fine and useful piece to have around. It is certainly a top quality modern metronome.

This is the perfect metronome.

By Michael Z. from Hazleton, PA
Music Background: Enthusiast

There's different voicings for the sounds so you won't get tired of a digital click. There is an auxiliary out to connect to an amp or headphones. Haven't tested it against drums but with in ears that shouldn't be a problem at all. The battery has lasted me hours and hours of practice.

I believe this is the perfect metronome. It is said that everyone should at least own one. This is very affordable and you will find no trouble implementing it in your space.

do I really need a metronome?

By Debbi F. from Ohio
Music Background: guitar player wanna be

Yes, I really need a metronome & this Korg KDM-3 is perfect for me! I am a 66 year old who took up guitar 3 years ago & while I a novice at best, I LOVE playing! I do have a couple of apps on my phone to keep the beat, so I truly didn't think I needed a metronome. When one of my fellow guitar friends suggested a metronome, I thought, ok ~ I'll try it.
This Korg is simple to use, easy to hear & has improved my practice sessions! So if you think you don't need it, you do!
This one has 19 beat patterns & 8 metronome sounds ~ easy to use.

Nice metronome

By Lauren W. from Texas

I thought this metronome would be bigger than it is. For the size, it puts out a decent sound. It has several tones to choose from and changing beats and tempo is a breeze. I do wish it was a bit louder to use with my ensembles. It contains a headphone jack, which I'm hoping to try to use as an output into a larger speaker. Probably a better product for individual practice rather than a large ensemble. It is a very well made product.

easy to use, and loud enough for amped guitar

By Matthew T. from Sitka, Alaska

The tao tempo feature is great. The volume adjustments, and choice of different sounds, lets you find just the right setting to hear the rhythm over your instrument. I thought I would miss having a swinging arm to give me a visual cue, but there are blinking lights at the top of the device that give me what I need.

Great Metronome!

By Sweetwater Customer

I needed a desktop metronome that did not take up a lot of space. I use it whenever I practice on guitar. The speaker volume is excellent. It is easy to adjust tempos. The tap function works great. The voices sound good--very crisp and clear. For each voice, the first note has a different timber, which makes it easy to identify as well as a visual via LEDs embedded in the Start/Stop button on the top. The size and weight of this device makes it easily transportable. Construction seems of good quality. My only complaint is the power On/Off button. It is one of the busiest buttons on the device, but is small, not easy to reach, and the device requires support when pressing. Overall, for the money, this is a good value and would buy it again. I give it 5 stars.

By far the best Metronome on the market

By Sweetwater Customer

I just received the Korg KDM-3 digital metronome. All in all I have 6 metronomes at my two homes. I have a Wittner mechanical, an Intelli metronome, a Matrix Quartz mR50, a Korg KDM-2, a Korg TM60, and a Korg TM50. The KDM-3 is by far the most versatile with the most options, the loudest and the best metronome. The Korg KDM-2 used to be my favorite metronome and I thought it would be difficult for Korg to improve much more on that product but Korg for sure took their KDM-3 metronome to the next level.

One other thing I want to bring up is customer service. You would think a metronome company like Korg will not be able to provide true personal service. They surprised me. What they did for me was beyond my expectations.

I recommend this KDM-3 metronome highly. There is no point in wasting time and money to try to search for the best metronome. This is the only metronome you should buy!

Best digital metronome out there

By JL from the southeast
Music Background: Songwriter, multiinstrumentalist, engineer, teacher

I know, I know...it's a METRONOME! "I HATE metronomes"...you say. No one truly "loves" a metronome...or do they?

THIS one may change your thinking. It's easy to use, and small enough to carry around. BUT, large enough to make a statement and to put out a fairly loud sound. There are multiple "sounds", speaking of which, that the metronome can "speak", and the DIAL (thank you!) is what makes this one so nice. There are some cheaper metronomes that have a dial, but this one is more "tactile" and functional, IMHO.

It's so easy to turn on and off, and to start and stop. It really is the best one I've owned, and I've dealt with metronomes since my piano teacher first put that old wooden Wittenhauer (?sp.) in front of me in third grade.

I use this one for teaching and practicing all the time. Since it stands upright, its easy to see, and there's no little cheap plastic "stand" to fall apart and break that doesn't even give you the right angle anyway.

My only gripe is that its a little TOO light, and sometimes my big hands tend to knock it around when i'm trying to turn it on or off (on the right side).

Functional, accurate, and different...this is a great metronome but not the cheapest option.

The Best I've Found

By Old I. from Concord, NC

Now that I actually have one (that's an inside joke--hi, Damon! :), I absolutely love this metronome. It immediately started transforming my playing. I've increased my speed so much and so quickly while using the KDM-3 that I honestly wondered if its reading was accurate (it is; I checked it against another metronome).

I've tried a slew of other metronomes, and pretty much hated them all. Most are awful to listen to, which is a factor whose importance I grossly underestimated. When you hate every sound the thing puts out, you may tend to pay less attention to it, or not use it at all. That's what I used to do. But the KDM-3 has a several sound options that are vastly more pleasant to listen to than others I've tried.

I also now realize that the metronomes with dials are much harder to read. The KDM-3 shows you its settings right on its screen--no leaning over, no picking it up, no squinting. Adjusting the beats is really quick and easy as well.

It's not cheap, but I'd definitely buy it again.

Cool Features and Loud

By John W. from Grand Rapids, Michigan
Music Background: Rock/Blues Guitarist

After recently buying a few metronomes, this one's my favorite. If I want to practice quavers or triplets I don't have to think about it. This machine will click 'em off. The only drawback is the case shape might lead to butterfingers. I plan to tape a little sandpaper to mine. A really nice and loud metronome, love it.

By Jimbo

I have had many metronomes. None of which are loud enough to be heard easily over two violins. Great for lessons or for practice with a group. Until the KDM-3. This one is louder than the KDM-2. All other features are simple to use and useful.
