Bright and chimey

By Thomas Wynne Jr from Brookings, OR on January 19, 2023 Music Background: Playing around since 1976

Compared to other tonewoods, koa is bright and this one chimes a bit (similar to harmonics on an electric guitar) which is great for my playing style. I'm a sucker for inlaid fretboards, too. I only had to do a truss rod tweak to get the action where I want it. It looks good so my wife lets me hang it in the living room so it gets a lot of play time.

Love at first sight and sound

By Jordan Dailey from Indianapolis on January 3, 2023 Music Background: Novice

They say the happiest days are when your children are born, while true, a close second is everyday when I pick up this beauty and begin to play. The look, the feel, the warm rich tones… time to stop writing this review because I could be playing right now!

Taylor K26ce

By Howard B. from Western PA on February 12, 2021 Music Background: Child of the hair metal 80's whose love of all things guitar brings balance to life.

The insatiable lust that I felt for this since model first seeing one in Taylor's quarterly publication had me feeling like a kid at Christmas when I finally pulled the trigger. Upon arrival, letting the box acclimate for 24 hours as recommended by Sweetwater due to Winter temps was excruciatingly difficult but well worth protecting my new companion. The artistry & craftsmanship is everything one would expect from Taylor and at this price point I expected nothing less - Flawless!! I had read that the sound port better affects the listener rather than the player and I would agree. Her voice is more soft than my other acoustics of varying body sizes but supremely well balanced. I have had several high end acoustics (None quite at this price point) and have never had one play so effortlessly out of the box. The neck is extremely comfortable and the action beautifully low - Not sure if that is direct from Taylor or as a result of Sweetwater's attention prior to shipping.

Other than price, my only concern would be the lower volume the player hears when playing unplugged, which I equate to the right words being whispered in one's ear rather than shouted. Anthony Giraldi and his team were top notch, making it oh so easy to look forward to our next conversation.

Review update

By Thomas Wynne Jr from Brookings, OR on April 9, 2023

I reviewed this guitar earlier and have something to add. After 3 months there were noticeable small bumps showing up on the back of the neck. I contacted Taylor, sent pictures and was informed that the bumps were being caused by contaminates under the finish. They said they could repair the neck if I sent it back to the factory and paid shipping both ways. Not a great response on a brand new expensive guitar that has a problem that occurred during finishing. I contacted my sales engineer who started a dialog with another Taylor service rep and also said that Sweetwater would replace it as defective even though it was out of the 60 day trial period. The second rep tells me that I should sand the neck, or he would make arrangements with the closest repair center to deal with it. I do a lot of my own luthier work because I live in a remote area and the nearest decent music stores are over 2 hours away, but to ask a customer to sand the neck of a new guitar with a factory defect is ridiculous. The closest repair shop would be a three hour drive one way. If the guitar had shown up with the defect I would have returned it immediately and I doubt that it would have passed Sweetwater's inspection. I had a PRS that developed a problem after a year and PRS offered to pay for shipping both ways to make it right. Now THAT'S service. Anyway, I wasn't thrilled about any others that I could have traded it in for and didn't want to spend any more for an instrument that now had some bad karma associated with it so I sanded the neck. I played it for awhile but it had lost it's magic and the inlay had started to pull up in two spots so I sold it. This was my 4th Taylor and it will be my last. I guess this is what happens when a luthier turns control of his brand over to the employees who are looking at the bottom line instead of the guitar maker's reputation. Sweetwater gets an A+, Taylor gets an F.
