It's a Jaguar- blues lawyers need not apply

By Michael Barnes from Atlanta, GA on December 16, 2022 Music Background: Garage punk

Look folks, this is a Jaguar. It looks like a cross between furniture and a rocket ship. It's a little rickety and the trem is goofy AF. The pickups are wild and rowdy. You don't buy this guitar to playing artless wanker *** middle age man pentatonic blues lawyer garbage like Joe Bonnamassa or whatever, you buy it because you love Rowland S. Howard, you worship Johnny Marr, and you want to play sloppy AF like Kurt Cobain. This is for shoegazing and noise making, not "creamy" boomer tones. This isn't a precision manufactured superstrat. It's a -machine- but it has more heart and soul than you'll get in a $5k reliced whatever the %#?!. This is the kind of guitar that inspires you to play and play -differently-. Squier Classic Vibe guitars are a tremendous value, and if you want something close to a vintage Jag that's actually affordable for a non-working musician, this is it. Ignore all the online guitar dudes going on about break angles and neck shims, forget all the whining from folks who got into that maybe just needed an quarter turn action tweak before they huffily sent it back because it didn't sound like the voice of an angel- this a great guitar and Sweetwater is great place to buy it.

Great guitar!

By Lee Miller from WOODRUFF, SC on October 14, 2022

Great guitar, especially for the price. The on board tone switches give the guitar a wide range of sounds. Lightweight and good body fit. Highly recommend.
Also, love Sweetwater's website. Gives tons of information and pictures from multiple angles. If they have multiple guitars of the same item, really love that they give you the serial #s and you can pick from and compare each guitar. This is especially nice when choosing between stained finishes. My sales engineer, Peter Turner, was very helpful, patient, and thorough.

Great guitar

By Joe on November 23, 2021 Music Background: Novice

I hear alot of people saying that it needed a setup, out of the box. This is my first new guitar, and it was also out of the box already, when I was looking at guitars at a small local business. I'm not sure if it already had a setup done, because of this. That said, I enjoy the way it plays a great deal, and it is absolutely gorgeous, as well.I will probably have a friend set it up, eventually. The intonation is a bit off,and both high and low e strings sometimes jump out of the saddles. I understand that this is a common jaguar problem in general, and it isn't really an issue, as I'm not playing out or anything like that. I find the frets very smooth on the neck, also.Which is an issue I've heard others having in reviews of this guitar.I enjoy the pickups very much, as well. The switches were confusing, at first, but there is info on fenders website that explains the electronics in detail. My only other gripe, is that I've tried everything, short of banging the trem arm with a hammer, and I cannot get it to stay in place. I may actually try with a hammer, but the trem isn't really a deal breaker for me either.

Couldn't ask for more.

Just thrilled with this 3 color sunburst Jaguar by Squier. It is outstanding to behold.
I played it for a couple hours, no problems; the action is such that I won't be needing a setup. That's nice 'cause I save some money. Today is July 8th and I ordered the guitar about four or five business days ago. Arrived on time, like the sales rep. said it would. I look forward to playing this guitar more. I originally wanted the black Jag, but it was temporarily out of stock, so I started looking at the sunburst. I noticed that at Sweetwater you could choose from a few different serial #'s and get the exact guitar in the picture. I looked over four different Squiers and chose the one I thought had the best wood grain, then bought it.
But what really made me shop here was the 55 point inspection Sweetwater does on guitars over $299.
This model, the 70s Classic Vibe, which came out in 2019, offers all the tonal nuances that I want. It took about 15 to twenty minutes to figure just how the switches and knobs work. Now I'm a pro! I recommend this guitar to anyone beginner or seasoned player. If you're like me, you'll love it.

It's rad

I love it but the only problem is that the tremolo arm makes a audible pop through my Amp so it's making it hard for me to do glide guitar techniques.

The best way to get the Jaguar sound at the price.

By Davis on September 9, 2022

The Jaguar line of guitars is arguably Fender's most overlooked guitar. Because of it's complexity compared to many other Fender single coil guitars, it's often left by the wayside in favor of the simple Stratocaster. An unfortunate side effect of this is the price many Jaguars go for today, but with this Classic Vibe Series Jaguar, you can get the sound without breaking the bank. Plays absolutely wonderful. Bright jangly pickups capture the quintessential Jaguar sound, while it's rhythm captures a darker tone that you don't hear much elsewhere. Neck feels great doesn't stick to your hand when moving up and down. The offset design makes it ridiculously comfortable to play while both sitting and standing. Switching works without flaw. Tuning stability leaves some to be desired with it's floating tremolo system, but overall holds tune for long lengths of time as long as you are going for a full dive.

A great cheap option

By kyle Holtzman from Marblehead, MA on May 28, 2021

Plays and sounds great, especially once I slapped a 1 degree full pocket shim under the neck, and swapped the strings for 10s. The gloss isn't sticky in my opinion, not as smooth as satin but not half bad. The frets feel great, and the floating bridge makes adjusting the action a breeze for even the most newbie luthiers. Great buy

Beautiful guitar for the price

By Randy Tate on June 27, 2019 Music Background: Playing since 1975 (taking time out for meals and sleep, of course!)

A beautiful looking guitar. I got the surf green Classic Vibe model. Great variety of tones from the variety of pickup selections and switching options. The pickups absolutely rock. I'm playing a lot of surf and Indie through a '68 Bassman and love it. Some minor intonation issues to work through, but not a deal breaker by any means. Great guitar for the money.

Squier Clasic Vibe 70's Jaguar

By Roy Hamond from Georgia on June 3, 2019 Music Background: Played lead guitar in a band for 15 years

While not as good quality as the original Jaguar I played in the 60's and 70's it also does not cost anywhere close to what an original cost now. For the money you can't beat the quality. Easy to play and still has all the original controls as my original. A little hard to keep in tune but it is still relatively new.
The paint and chrome look fantastic as well. I highly recommend this guitar from Sweetwater!

Good guitar that needs a bit of work

By James Kavenaugh from Novi, MI on February 6, 2022

It looks good and is comfortable. Sounds good too. Great price.

Biggest issue out the gate was the height of the action. There was no shim and the bridge was at it's lowest position. I added a 1.0 shim, raised the bridge a bit and now it's perfect. A smaller issue was the dryness of the fret board. A bit of fret oil will fix this. I rubbed the oil in a few times and let it sit before wiping it off. I might do it again.

A good guitar if you have set-up skills and money to put into it.

By William Plummer from Brooklyn, NY on February 17, 2021

The good: It looks great, the neck is very comfortable, the tremolo works pretty well, and it is very ergonomic.

The bad: Out of the box it would not stay in tune or intonate. The pickups sound terrible. And, my fingers always turn black from the Laurel fretboard. Needed a setup. It would not play out of the box.

Adjustemnts: I had to file the nut slots to help with tuning, add Kluson tuners, level the frets and I replaced the pickups withe Fender Pure Vintage '65s. All in thats about $... for the new pickups and tuners. I did all of the nut work, installed the pickups, levelled the frets, installed the tuners, and set it up. If I couldn't have done all that work myself I estimate it would have been another $...

If you buy one, I estimate with taxes, parts and labor its about $... all in to make these into great gutars. But, most Mexican Fenders and often American Fender need work too, so $... in at the end for a great guitar is not terrible...

By Speerdo from Omaha on April 27, 2019 Music Background: 20+ years on guitar

Looks amazing. That's about it. My example had a loud buzzing whenever the pickups were switched on..couldn't get away from it. The intonation has been junk...thing sounds out of tune no matter what I do and no matter where I go on the fretboard. The bridge doesn't hold the strings very tightly, so in the short time I've owned it, the strings roll out all the time. There's also a lot of buzz on the strings..not sure if they're moving in the grooves or what, but I'm constantly checking to see if they've come out even when they haven't. Fret edges are sharp as well. The bridge doesn't allow for height adjustments on the action, and down past 10 or 12, things get pretty tall. I knew this was a Squier, but I figured at this price they were upping their game. Bummer, cause this thing is gorgeous. Maybe I got a lemon. Returning mine within a few days.
