Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass - 3-Tone Sunburst Reviews

4-string Electric Bass with Poplar Body, Maple Neck, Maple Fingerboard, and 2 Single-coil Pickups - 3-Tone Sunburst

First introduced in 1960, the Jazz Bass has withstood the test of time to become one of the most played and recorded instruments in modern music history. As roundwound strings and brighter bass sounds became popular in the 1970s, a number of modifications were made to the J Bass to accommodate the changing tastes in music production; most notably, maple fingerboards and a back pickup moved closer to the bridge. The Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass captures this funky vibe in an incredibly affordable instrument with the classic J Bass offset-waist body, fast-action neck, and dual single-coil pickups. Squier's Classic Vibe '70s J Bass is remarkably comfortable to play and lets you pull off extremely tight runs and grooves with ease. Of course, it also delivers the legendary punchy bass sound you can only get from a pair of Jazz Bass pickups.

Amazing Bass!

By Sam on February 2, 2024 Music Background: Average bedroom guitarist.

It's the world's best bass under $. It's basically ready to go right out of the box. I ended up putting flat wounds on it, to get that sort of Paul McCartney rickenbacker bass tone. Made adjustments to the pickup and string height, and a few other minor things. The bridge pickup knob was a bit loose when I got it, but was an easy fix. I love the thinner neck it has, and the big block inlays on the finger board. Great tone, great bass if you're looking for a starter. I ******* love this bass, and you should too.

1 year later.

Put vintage 74 pups and 920d pots. Just have to put vintage tuners to go and it already sounds clearer and more articulate than my fender player .

Can't beat it!

By Sweetwater Customer on December 27, 2021

Love it. Flats made it a total winner. Fast neck got mine on the DEMO list 8.2 lbs. Can't seem to find the imperfections, really. Got pure vintage 74 pups I'll update you afterwards. 2nd Classic Vibe and both worth more than I paid for em already. Randy Poteet never let's me down. My next one gets a setup.

Excellent bass

This was my first bass after playing guitar for many years. I hesitated to buy only because of the Squier name, and my outdated opinions of the brand. I am very pleased with this bass. It looks even better in person and the fit and finish are fantastic. It feels very solid and sounds great. I'm really glad I bought this bass and I would highly recommend it. I also wouldn't hesitate to buy another Squier based on this experience.

Thank you so much Tomir and Sweetwater

My bass and amp came with in 2 days with free shipping.
Polite and respectful people work at Sweetwater.

The bass is gorgeous. So is the amp, if anyone wants to get an affordable , but incredible bass amp. It's the Fender rumble 15. Plays very well. And I'm very happy.
Merry Christmas to me!

Squire Jazz bass

I've had this bass for around 2 months now, and I really am blow away by the quality of the classic vibe series. Don't buy into the talk of Squires aren't good instruments. They're the best instruments around for the money. With a proper set up from Sweetwater, my bass has had zero issues. Tuning is rock solid and the playability of the instrument around the neck is fantastic. The only minor issue is the pickups are a bit on the weaker side. They sound a bit flat all around, but knowing how to dial it into a Amp/ modeler fixes that quickly. I can say I would definitely consider buying another Squire Classic Vibe Jazz Bass and recommend this to others.

Intermediate player, Love this bass!!

By Kenny from Tn on May 13, 2020 Music Background: Drums, guitar, and bass

Originally a drummer but have played bass and guitar as well. Where I live currently I can not set up my drum kit and I have really wanted to play some music. I have always loved playing bass but never thoroughly learned. I have an Ibanez 5 string but have always wanted a jazz bass. I'm glad I went with this. It plays so well and feels great at a fraction of the fender american version. I highly recommend even if you are a very experienced player on a tight budget.

Squier Classic Vibe ‘70s

By Joe on July 27, 2019

I"m a usually a guitarist. However, I"m going to play bass in the band for a few songs and needed a bass to learn/practice on at home... and possibly record with... This bass is perfect for my needs. It is well built, sounds great, and plays great. Totally satisfied!

Really nice, and plays great!

By Mike from SC on December 25, 2021

This is my first Squier guitar. I own American Strats, Mexican Strats, and a Korean Gretsch, and this is my first purchase in the 'Indonesian' Squier line. I have to say, the finish was really nice, build quality was nice and it plays great. I cannot speak to the setup because as a 6-string guitar player, I do not know how a bass guitar should be properly set up. But I have no problem playing it, so it must be pretty good. I got this to help me create a home studio to record songs sung by relatives (to which I will add the guitar parts). Whichever facility in Indonesia this guitar came from, they are doing excellent work and I appreciate it. You can buy a more expensive bass guitar but not really a better one. I think this Squier hits the sweet spot for most people between sound, quality, and price. Cannot go wrong with a Squier Jazz Bass!

Very satisfying experience!

Having been an experienced bass player since the 80s. (Yes I'm old). I have always played fender products. I did start off with an Ibanez and moved on to a precision but after that was stolen, I bought me a new Fender Areodyne Jazz bass which i love and pkay to this day. A couple of years ago I bought me a Squier Jaguar Bass just to mess around with and I ended up loving it! The punchiness and the playability really makes it fun! But I debated for a long time to get this bass. I kept checking reviews, watching YouTube vids, just to make sure i was getting something worthy to be played. Squier has always had the "beginner" stigma attached to it so I was a little wary but all that careful research was a waste of time. Squier is an awesome, very usable brand! I was very impressed with the bass! I decided to order from Sweetwater because I heard reviews were the best regarding shipping and it was no lie. If you're familiar with the box that most guitars come in, imagine that but inside a bigger box to protect it! I'm serious, this thing was as big as a door and about 8 inches deep. After inspection, I was thoroughly satisfied with the finish and it came very setup and ready to play out of the box! It was even in tune. I did a very minimal set up and what's nice is they provide the tools for that. Sweetwater contacted me to make sure i was happy with product and that they were there to offer any assistance i may need. Who does that? Hey, stop debating and get your bass. You won't be disappointed.

Must have been Friday.

Who assembled this bass ran the sets all the way in stripping the heads. Have to order the loaded plate from Sweetwater. I have vintage 74s to load with it. Should be sweet. Is just as it is really aside from the overtorqued on the knobs . Got it on deals still not much wrong with the Sunburst finish. Nice over all.

Squier classic vibe 70s jazz bass

By Tony Blair from Jackson, Mississippi on May 15, 2019 Music Background: 30+ years fulltime musician

Not the quality of the Made in China older classic vibe models. Feels like vintage modified quality, which is not a bad thing just not classic vibe, and several high frets on the fretboard. Pickups sounds anemic and not full, definitely would need a pickup change.
