Complete Humbucking Pickups Set for Telecaster Electric Guitars

Seymour Duncan's Hot Rails pickups are a fully humbucking design that has been shrunk to fit perfectly into single-coil-size pickup cavities. They are extremely popular around Sweetwater for their high output and ability to retain great string to string clarity. The STHR-1 Hot Rails Tele Pickup Set comes with both the neck and bridge pickups, allowing you to access thick, higher-gain tones from your favorite Telecaster. And when it's time to grab the more traditional T-style tone, their 4-conductor wiring is great for getting coil-split performance.

Hot Rails for your Telecaster

By Shane B. from Tulsa, Oklahoma
Music Background: Blues, blues rock, country and Christian praise

I ordered a set of Seymour Duncan Hot Rails for Tele Set and I got want I wanted.
A fat humbucker sound for the neck position. I did lose some of the tele twang in the bridge but I'm ok with that.
You can check out my video on YouTube under shanebolender851.

As always...but it from Sweetwater..you can't go wrong.

It works

By Jim B.
Music Background: 50 years strumming

What i was looking for was a fatter tele sound.

Neck and middle were good but bridge at lower volume sounds like someone threw a blanket over the amp. At higher levels it sounds ok (still not a tele sound)

Does what I wanted, with reservations.

By Sweetwater Customer

More than a little grinding to bridge, and pickguard necessary for fitment without rubbing against pickup coils. Luckily behind cloth tape on pickups, there is shielding copper. Also, the surgical tubing supplied with pickups to act as adjustment springs was comically too short, so used old springs. Once you get past these issues though, the pickups do what is advertised. Makes a tele sound like something that isnt a tele, which was the goal, although splitting the bridge pickup does give a bit of tele sound back.

Flame Thrower

By James from Michigan
Music Background: 25 years plus experience with gear and playing.

Buyer beware these may or may not fit in your Squire Tele. Make sure you measure first or simply take your guitar to a luthier to do the work necessary. They are stacked humbuckers which makes the pickup taller than a standard Tele pup. They fit perfectly into my Mexican Tele.
These pups are hot, thick, and mid-heavy. The cleans are meh, but the drive tones are wicked. You don't buy the Hot Rails pup for classic twangy Tele sounds. Although despite the massive tonal difference to standard single coil pups, it still somehow sounds like a Tele. I guess that's a testament to the instrument itself.
High gain legato is easy. Chunky palm muting sounds great. Pick attack is thicker but still has that Tele bite to the transient of the note. If you want to do life changing surgery to your Telecaster these are your pickups! You do get some interesting looks from other guitar players when you pull a Tele out of your gig bag and start playing thrash metal.
If you like everything about your guitar except the thin twangy tone, I highly recommend these as an excellent option.

Great Affinity Tele enhanser

By Stephen L. from Navarre, FL

Unlike some of the other reviewers I didn't have to file my bridge. I did have to enlarge the hole in the pickguard but that was no problem. My main issue was the included hardware. The pickups come with wood screws for use with a standard tele size routing. The Affinity is routed so you can install humbuckers if desired and the wood screws don't work. I had to use the hardware from the pickups that came in the guitar. Once installed I wired the pickups to a Mojo Tone wiring harness with a four position switch. I now have a killer sounding Tele that I wouldn't trade for anything. These pickups are everything I hoped for. If I ever get another Tele I will be getting these again.

What guitar are you using?

By Kevin D. from bonners ferry, ID

Just a heads up, if you have a Ultra, or Elite fender Tele and are thinking of these the screws that come with this package dont fit. Sweetwater was very helpful but customer service with Seymour Duncan is non existent sadly.

Didn't fit the Affinity Telecaster

By Eric P. from BELLINGHAM, WA
Music Background: Metal!

Installation was disappointing. In order for these Hot Rails to fit my Affinity Tele I first had to enlarge both holes. not a big deal for the neck because it's a plastic pickguard but The bridge plate is metal and I had to do a lot of filing. This removed the chrome where I filed so I painted those areas to prevent rust. The bridge pickup also hit the body of the guitar requiring me to chisel/Dremel some wood. Finally, Seymour included the wrong screws to mount the neck pickup and I had to go to the hardware store for larger diameter screws, what a pain. I'm okay with the modification because it's just an Affinity series Squire but if this had been an expensive/nice Tele I would not have damaged it like this. BTW, if it was a really nice Tele I wouldn't have installed humbuckers anyway. Now that they're installed, yes, they do the job of giving me the high output I was looking for. Rock on!

Great sounding pickups, but be prepared to file away at your bridge.

By Stephen G. from cresson, PA

These pickups sound great, way darker and higher output that standard telecaster pups, which is their purpose. These are not the pickups to buy if you want sparking cleans! These are for hot overdriven and distorted tones.

I did have some trouble getting them to fit. Getting the neck pickup to fit in the pickguard was not too big of a deal, just filing away some with a Dremil. The bridge pickup did NOT fit right in a fender standard (made in mexico) bridge, I had to file away at the bridge, mainly the corners of the opening, for a few hours before it would fit in.

Now the extra effort was worth it, the pickups scream. Just be aware that these might not be a drop in replacement. Maybe they fit an American Standard bridge?

Seymour Duncan STHR-1 Hot Rails Tele Pickup Set-Black

By Richard V. from New Jersey

I bought these to upgrade my 2019 Affinity Tele.
The bridge pick up did not fit,it is too big.
I had to enlarge the hole in the bridge in order to get it to fit.
Not a knock on the product, just sharing information.
I hope the manufacturer will include this information in the future.

T wo thumbs up

By Scott M. from Baltimore Maryland
Music Background: Blues and Hard Rock

Insane what these babies did for my MM ash Telle .This guitar went from mediocre to marvelous.Ihad a coil tap installed originally I was not going to butIam really glad I did because the neck pick up is now best as single coil puts the stock lipstick pick up to shame! The bridge in humbucking mode will Rock and Roll.I looked at so many different pickups it was getting difficult to decide.

Insa
Insane difference added coil tap which turned out really killer I don't think I would be satisfied with out.The neck pickup is extremely useful in single coil mode probably my favorite and bridge is a Rocking Machine in humbucking mode. This makes this guitar so much nicer I cant say enough way to go Seymore Duncan!
