Compact Digital Reverb Pedal with Three Algorithms

Add a lush reverb to your pedalboard with the Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Neo guitar pedal. This ruggedly built and compact stompbox contains three different reverb algorithms: Spring, Hall and Plate. All three reverbs were tailored for the electric guitar but they work equally as well on any instrument or voice. The Spring algorithm is a re-creation of the classic spring reverbs found in classic guitar amps. The Hall algorithm lush, deep reverb. And Plate is a beautiful, studio-style reverb that is perfect for any instrument. The Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Neo will change the way you look at reverb!

Reverb on the Pedalboard

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Professional

I read a few good reviews and decided to give the Holy Grail a try and it's now sitting permanently on my board. I cannot believe how lush and delightful these reverbs are. There are settings I'd never use but it's there if I need it. I'm very sensitive to bad reverb but the Holy Grail is awesome. This is very good reverb and you can dial it down to a barely recognizable level - like a hint of reverb. Or you can dial in Madison Square Garden. Built like you'd expect - solid.

Good utility pedal

By Paul from Pittsburgh
Music Background: Been playing since the mid 70's.

This thing works as advertised. Simple to use. One knob and one switch. I really like pedals like this that don't require huge amounts of time to dial in and constantly adjust.

Loving the electro-harmonix Holy Grail!

By Jack B. from Bethlehem, GA
Music Background: Guitar and bass playing since 1964, I am age 76 now...Yikes!

Hi, Randy,

So far, so good with the HOLY GRAIL Electro-Harmonix Reverb Pedal, it is doing a GREAT job for me! Now I am working on a 14 song home recording project, and this time around, I want to utilize a smaller but powerful setup with "just the essentials". Now it is just the amp and the Holy Grail and an Ibanez Tube Screamer (and a Boss TU-3 Tuner) that is getting the job accomplished positively, even a bit better-sounding than was the case when I was using several pedals instead of just these two very important pedals (plus the TU-3). Many thanks, Randy!

The holy Grail

By Sweetwater Customer

Great reverb…. Picked it up cause my amp (amps) lost reverb…. Thought it was kind of expensive cause it wasn't supposed to be permanent… lol it's permanent now… really great sound… well worth the price….

A Fx Loop Must

By Sweetwater Customer

Inserted it in my amp FX loop in front of my Flashback Delay from Sweetwater ... it has a wide range of tones

Great Simple Reverb

By Alan T. from New Jersey

Bought it to add spring reverb to smaller amps and it sounds just like a blackface tank. Then I was completely blown away by the Hall reverb which is really an awesome unexpected bonus. Very Happy, must use the power supply though, can't use a 9-V

Great little pedal

By Sweetwater Customer

Love my Holy Grail! I've never used a reverb pedal before, I've always just used the reverb on board whatever amp I was using but I wanted more control over when, where and how much reverb and now I have that control and more! Very versatile, I can't imagine ever needing more in a reverb pedal.

Excellent Reverb Pedal….. but it needs to run through FX loop

By Eric S.

I love this pedal. The wet / dry knob is amazingly expressive. And while I use classic spring reverb a lot, the hall and plate settings have a killer spacious tone, that's just very different from spring. Also this pedal, like all EHX pedals, does an awesome job driving more sustain, and really impacts solos / licks. If I had only one pedal on my board, this might be it. But herein is the issue…

You need to run this pedal through an FX loop so that it's not hitting the preamp. If you run it in line with other pedals, or by itself, straight to the front of your preamp (which I've done before), it's very limited. You can turn the reverb mix up to 2 or 3 at most. Anything past that and you get a huge volume and gain spike, straight into your preamp, which creates a massive amount of super high treble distortion. And it's not classic Big Muff distortion. It's cat in a blender distortion with insane amounts of treble. It still works a at a setting of 1 or 2, and sounds great as a simple dry reverb accent, but it's limited.

Put it in an FX loop, where everything is being modified after the preamp, and all the features work perfectly. It's a Swiss Army knife.

Hope that helps is you are considering this purchase. If you don't have an FX loop, I'd buy a different pedal.

Not what I expected.

By Chris from Melbourne, FL

This pedal is intense! It has an insane amount of effect, for my taste. I wanted to love this pedal, as the sounds are of nice quality. Unfortunately, the lack of subtlety with the effect doesn't work for me. The wet signal quickly comes in at the slightest turn of the knob. I guess I expected the effect to ease in as you turn the knob. This pedal goes from 0 to 50 before you even reach the 8 O clock position.

Holy Grail Neo, Fabulous Quality

By Edward W. from AUSTIN, TX

This pedal makes your guitar sound, "professional", and it truly provides excellent reverb. The 3 types of reverb you would ever need are available with this pedal, and the quality of sound is superb. Excellent pedal.

Simple and Satisfying

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Blues, Rock and Stuff

I consider myself a simple type of player. I play Strat or PRS thru a Fender Deluxe Reverb. I play mostly blues, R&B, or Rock in a home studio. While I'm familiar with other reverbs, I knew I didn't want a ton of options or settings that I'd never use. After some research, I decided on the Holy Grail Neo. All I can say is wow! So far, I'm a huge fan of the Hall but the Tape also had me jamming. The Spring is a little different than my amps but so close that I don't mind. Overall, a great pedal. You can pour on tons of reverb if that's your taste, personally, I keep it around 2-3 o'clock and it sounds beautiful. If you're looking for something to add more color to your tone, give this a shot.

Excellent

By Mike

Seriously underrated reverb. Goes from subtle to cavernous. My favorite setting is the plate, but the hall and spring also sound great. I have a Blue Sky from Strymon and use the neo just as often. It's a lot less fuss too.

Just what I needed

By Jared from Southern California
Music Background: Rock N Roll and Country

I have an original 1965 Fender Princeton (non-reverb) and wanted a simple single knob, great sounding spring reverb pedal that would sound like the 1960's blackface Fender spring reverb tanks.
The Holy Grail NEO was just what I needed! This pedal is simple, easy to use, great sound and is not a noisy pedal. Totally worth it and I also like that Electro-Harmonix is made in the USA

A lot of Reverb on tap.

By Will from Texas

For what it is and the price, I think it does a fair job worth four stars.

The Spring and Plate reverbs are best with the Plate being the favorite.

The one thing I think that would make it better is if the wet knob was a little more subtle. It doesn't take much to get the reverb going on this pedal, yet it's pretty easy to find the right amount needed.

That said it does a good job of adding space to your sound and is more natural sounding than some other more expensive units I've tried at a local GC. Quiet operation, comes with a power supply and has a quality build as expected from EHX.

If you don't need a bells and whistles reverb with endless adjustable parameters, then you will probably do well with this unit as I have.

Wow!

By JT from Amite, La
Music Background: Classic Rock to Modern Hard Rock

I always thought nothing could touch the reverb of a Fender tube amp, was I wrong. This pedal is killer when ran through the effects loop of an amplifier and dialing in that "sweet spot" is virtually effortless. With three reverb sound selections and an output level, all you need. Thanks again Aaron from Sweetwater for all your help and service.

good 'verb!

By Sweetwater Customer

Simple and small. Three modes via toggle switch and one knob to adjust the wet/dry mix. I contemplated getting the Holy Grail MAX for the Time and Blend knobs, but that's $ more and it's twice the size. Mild reverb sounds are found below 8 o'clock, 9 is getting pretty wet, and Noon is intense. All the way up takes you past the Milky Way border. It's almost like there's a delay of attack and then an explosion of sound, as if time has actually been reversed. Far out, man! Very cool for the occasional "what was that?!" on recordings.

Yup

By RDGibson78 from Sacramento, CA
Music Background: Multi-Instrumentalist

Everything you'd expect of EHX to deliver in a reverb pedal of this class, and it's super smooth.

My only complaint is one that has made a few appearances in reviews: the dial. Around 10 o' clock on the knob, the intensity is a slightly drastic jump up in effect output. Luckily, I don't use this pedal for much more than subtleties of a notable reverb presence, and when I do, it's way more extreme. That's just me though. Someone else may need plenty of what would/should/could be the 11 o' clock sweet spot on this thing, only to find themselves at what would seem more like a 1 o' clock setting. Not the case with me, so I'm good here. But if you take your reverb quite seriously concerning a pedal in this price range, I recommend trying it out first before you buy it... just to make sure you're cool with the dial jump. It's not terribly EXTREME by any means (to me), but you'll very likely notice it.

Amazing reverb

By Harlan G. from AR

Was considering building a 6g15 clone to go along with the tweed champ I play for the bedroom but decided to try this pedal after seeing great reviews. It sounds as good as any in amp reverb I've ever used and adds a depth to the tweed champ, exactly what I was looking for! Wish I had bought this pedal years ago.

Big Sound

By John from Central PA
Music Background: Lifelong professional guitar player with extensive background

The Neo Reverb is big sounding and gives me a professional studio sound. I read one review that said it was noisy and useless. I thought that at first because I was in a hurry to test it but I realized that I put the reverb in line from the guitar and was using the distortion out of the amp. When I put the reverb in the effects loop it totally cleared up and responded how it should. Then when I put in the line of effects I made sure it was last after my distortions and it worked perfect. So I would suggest that you need to examine where you place this in your chain of effects or in your effects loop chain.

By Sotero R. from Torrington CT

Wow! Excellent reverb. It has all the classic reverbs you need for any professional setting.
Some of the other reverbs have many bells and whistles that you will never use. But this reverb pedal will be a permanent part of your pedalboard.

A Little Too Much

By Andrew V. from NY
Music Background: 35 year guitarist

EHX is a great company with spectacular products. Often, though, they add too many features for my taste. I like things simple. The "Holy Grail Neo" is certainly that. Spring-Room-Plate and an intensity dial. Simple.

My only criticism - and the reason I didn't slap a full 5 stars - is that the intensity (to me) is waaaayy over the top past, say, a 9 or 10 o'clock position. But dialed back? Oh, SWEET. You know that David Gilmour, utterly MASSIVE lead sound? That's this baby on "Plate" and the reason I bought it.

Great tone and effect. It's really all you need for reverb. Although I don't use reverb a lot, I've been using it on the occasional tune for almost 3 years now with no issues.

Excellent Quality

By tom m. from Vancouver, WA

There's a reason Electro-Harmonix has been around for as long as they have;

The build & tone quality is always first-rate and the Holy Grail Neo Reverb is up to that same standard.

The one and only reason I did not give this 5 stars is because, as others have mentioned, there is "barely on" at 6 O'clock and then just swimming' in it at 7.
Subtlety is not this pedal's strong suit by ANY means!

I still decided to keep it since I use it as an "always on" pedal & once I find that delicate 'just right' setting and leave it alone it's just great.

This will be on my pedalboard for years to come.

Holy Grail Neo

By Lance
Music Background: Psychedelic Rock/Acid Rock

I choose wisely here. Both the Spring and Plate reverb settings are excellent. And the hall reverb setting is good too, but the plate and spring are the main highlights. The plate reverb sounds great with fuzz, and the spring sounds great with a vibe or a phaser. Highly recommend.

Good Solid Reverb Pedal with Limitations

By Hammergjh from Boston's North Shore
Music Background: hobbyist

The Holy Grail Neo by Electro-Harmonix is a classic sounding reverb pedal! The spring reverb setting sounds like the spring reverbs from the classic Fender Blackface amps of the 60's. Terrific. Adds depth and space to the dry sound coming from your non-reverb equipped amp. A significant drawback, in my opinion, is that all 3 settings, 'spring', 'plate' and 'hall' all sound about the same. Any differences are almost too subtle to hear. The Reverb knob acts almost exactly like the reverb knobs on the classic Fender Blackface amps as well. Turn it up a notch or two, classic reverb sound. Shimmery and echoey with massive depth and presence. Anything beyond that though and it's way overdone. Unless that's your thing. The usable range on the knob is quite limited. I was expecting more delineation between the 3 settings and more flexibility in the mix knob. Didn't get that. I did get the sound I wanted. I just wish it had more variation and adjustability. 3 stars because it does sound good.

Excellent

By Grizz from NE Texas
Music Background: 44 year playing/writing music

Got this a month ago, and cant get enough. Beautiful sound fron ALL 3 modes. Cant turn it off when picking out chords. Last pedal on the board just before my VT999 that is use as a tube pre amp. This thing and a CH 1 will leave you thinking that this is the sound that all music should be made with. EHX has seriously impressed me with this one. All I can say is... WOW!!! Will never take this off my board. By the way....this pushed my Boss DD3 out of my chain.

Not like the original

By David

I have an Holy Grail nano, the one with the spring, hall, flerb switch. I use only the spring and the hall, and it is great !! But I needed another. Heard big talk about the neo and the plate mode. On all three settings, I could just barely hear the reverb when it reverb knob was turned about 90%. My old one the reverb started coming in at about 25%. What a disappointment. Maybe a quality problem. Returned it and bought another nano.

My Tone King Falcon does not have reverb, so I was looking for a simple, clean sounding pedal. I don't experience any tone or volume loss. Three settings, Plate, Hall, and Spring. My preference seems to be the Plate. On a 1-10 scale, I have the reverb knob at about 2. Just enough, very subtle. Ease of use is A++.....
