Great replacement pedal for the FS-6

By James S. from Carrollton, TX

I have been using the FS-6 for a number of years and finally decided to replace it. I purchased the FS-7 and power supply from Sweetwater. Ian was great in getting it shipped quickly. Talks up half the space of the old pedal with the same functionality. I have to admit that is was smaller than expected, so there was some initial issues in making sure I tapped it correctly but overall it was a great purchase. I use it with a Boss RC-5 looper and it works great. Being able to switch some functions over to the foot switch is great. I can also use it with my Boss Katana MKII as needed. Overall, a great purchase. Thanks, Ian and Sweetwater!!

Boss FS7 Foorswitch

By Dan W. from Norman, OK
Music Background: Musician for 60 years.

Great switch! Having two switches in one small form factor is perfect for my board. So perfect that I have ordered a second one from Ian, since I have some pedals that need latching, and some that need non-latching. The FS7 also has the function that both switches can go through the same cable, making it possible for me to program multiple functions for my looper.

Boss FS-7

By Keith W. from North Carolina
Music Background: Play guitar, bass, and sing

I bought the Boss FS-7 to be used with my Boss VE-8, mainly for the looper. I struggle double tapping the looper stop during solo live gigs. The Boss FS-7 allows for a one tap stop - much easier to time in live situations.

The Boss FS-7 works perfectly. Also, it works with or without power - that's nice!

As usual, the folks at Sweetwater are simply the best!

Quality Gear

By Jay A. from CA

Yes. Its a little pricy for just a 2 way switch, but, its totally worzh it, for The peace of mind on stage.Compared to The many cheap ones to chose from. This one is on The slightly expensive side of The room. But, if you actually need it for your set up, pay The extra few dollars knowing this gear is going to be totally solid for at least 15 years or more. If taken Care of correctly. These things work well. They are dependable and durable, and are made to take on The road.I have 2 running stuff on my rig at all times.bRgey do what they are supposed to do, ana they do it very well every single time !!!

Boss foot switch FS-7

By Joey C. from US
Music Background: Guitarist

Works well very silent. But when you use A&B plug through your FX loop the A light does not come on. But the B light does for the channel changer. The A light is off when are effects are on. And the light is off when effects on very confusing. Don't now why?

It actually doesn't require the power supply for non-latching use

By Zach from Los Angeles
Music Background: Artist, Producer, Songwriter, Guitarist

This is a very good quality (if not overpriced) dual footswitch. I like the actual footswitches and the feel of them. The description says it requires 9v power supply, and it *does* for the latching features where the LED lights correspond with the state of the latch. But if you just want to use it as a passive dual momentary switch, it doesn't require power. Although, the A/B do seem to be reversed in this case regardless of the state of the polarity switch. I will say it isn't the easiest thing in the world to find the switch in low light and feel which one you're going to hit (top or bottom), but just practice with it and you'll get the hang of it. It's the trade off you make when getting a smaller form factor pedal. I can see how you'd wish it took a 9v battery. Seems silly they didn't design that as an option, but at least they include a little power daisy chain so you can just branch off one of your other pedals. And since this isn't processing any signal, it won't add any interference to your signal chain via the power.

It's a footswitch

By Doug

Small footprint, works with anything, doesn't take up much space. Comes with a splitter for a standard Boss power supply. I do wish the splitter was a bit longer, but it's not a big deal. No issues with selecting "A" or "B"

So many uses: in the studio, live, and in worship

By Kevin B. from Nashville, TN
Music Background: singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, recording engineer

This is an incredibly high quality dual footswitch with so many uses. In the studio, connect it to a Presonus Faderport and use it to punch in while recording. I also use mine when leading worship. I use 2 Boss RC-5 loopers, each connected to one of these switches, to play pre-recorded WAV files; worship pads in different keys on one looper, and worship songs on the other, using the FS-7 footswitch to go up and down the various loops. I also have them connected to separate volume pedals so I can fade one looper in and the other out for seamless flow between songs.

The finally fixed the big problem with the FS-6, but created 3 new problems

By K from CA
Music Background: Gigging semi-pro

Boss just can't get their footswitches right. The FS-6 is awesome - except it lacks a DC power jack which means you can't really permanantly mount it to a pedal board because you have to be able to access the battery. Super annoying.

So they came out with the FS-7 - and finally got smart and put a DC power jack on it. AWESOME!! EXCEPT...

The FS-7 only has 1 shared momentary/latched switch so both footswitches have to be configured the same. (UGH!!)
The FS-7 only has 1 shared polarity switch so...again..both footswitches have to be configured the same. (UGH!!)
I'm not crazy about the form factor personally. While I get it that they were trying to make a small footprint version, I don't like footswitches this close together, and I think I'd constantly be hitting both switches at once. Plus this means that unlike the FS-6, you can't interlock multiple units together to create a bigger switchboard.

Cmon Boss...just bring out an FS-6 Rev B (or maybe FS-8) that adds the DC power jack and keeps all the great features of the FS-6 - full configurability of each side of the switch (momentary/latch, and polarity) and the form factor with interlocking edges and the footswitches spaced comfortably. While you're at it, use a green LED for the power indicator, and move that to dead center. The red power indicator can be misinterpreted as switch B on when glancing down at this switch.

It does what it should

By Sweetwater Customer

It works exactly the way it should. The offset height of the dual switches makes it easy to track both switches, in a package roughly the same footprint as a standard boss pedal. I use it for tap tempo on a delay in one channel and a tremolo in the other.

Just what I needed

By Nick W. from Coeur d Alene, ID

I use the Boss RC-300 loop station, and I was getting tired of bending down all the time to twist the knob to select the patches I needed for a song. I got this pedal to scroll through the patches with my foot. I plugged this into my RC-300, and I didn't have to configure it. It worked for changing patches right out of the box, and I don't need a power cord for it. I think Boss does an excellent job with their gear.

Great Improvement!

By Terry H. from Albert, KS
Music Background: Professional Musician

I have been using the Fs6 for quite awhile but, I was needing to reduce size in my performing area. I have what you would call a cockpit. A pedal to stop and start my drum machine fs6, FX pedal, boss ve8, boost pedal and light control pedal. This fs7 pedal really helped cleanup the space and works perfectly plus NO battery!

Slightly Awkward Yet Works Well

By Dave from FL

Like most Boss products it's built solidly. The peddles/switches are a bit on the small side so it's a bit awkward to hit them. I do like that the FS-7 works without power (no indicators without power). I use it to switch output levels up/down incrementally so it's intuitive to use how I have it setup, expect it'll become less awkward over time.

So if you want 2 switches to take up as little room as possible & are reliable the FS-7 is a good choice. For me, I probably should have just bought another FS-5U or bought the FS-6 (I just didn't like that to power it a battery is required).

Needs power cable!

By Guitardon from Asheville NC
Music Background: Pro player

I had this switch but sent it back because I didn’t need the a and the b functions. I only want to be able to switch the boost on my Roland blues cube. So I sent it back for the single switch model. My biggest complaint about this particular product is that it requires a DC power cable for it to work in latched position. It’s not always convenient to be able to plug in extra item in, there is often a shortage of power sources on many small club venues. I would’ve liked it better if they would’ve at least made it battery-operated. Other than that it looks a well built switch. I only got rid of it because I didn’t want the A B buttons I wanted a smaller size. But I would’ve hated every time I had to find an extra power outlet to plug it in so I’m glad I got rid of it.

A Great Quality Investment

By Teri L. from Clinton, TN
Music Background: Full time Working Musician for over 40 years

It's the little things that make the big difference for the gigging musician and this little pedal is one of those big differences.

I was thrilled to see Boss creating this particular switch. I have been using two FS-6 pedals which are awesome, but always wishing they had less foot real estate size. As a solo performing musician with looping, vocal processing, etc, foot space is precious and crucial to keep at a minimum. This switch does the trick and does it well. The ability to use it without battery or AC power for my needs is another huge plus. The battery need and use of the FS-6 is frustrating from having no way to tell how much battery you may have left at any given time. The gig is NOT the place you want to interrupt the show to change a battery. Re-chargables and changing every gig just to be sure is a bit iffy and certainly aggravating and alkalines can get pricey over time......so thank you Boss for creating the F-7.

The Pros:
• Small and Convenient Vertical Design rather than Horizontal taking up less real estate
• Built like a tank with quality and very solid switches
• Multiple configurations are possible
• Can be used without power for momentary or latched operation
• Power supply can be used if needed or if the desire to see on and off LED light is necessary
• The Quality makes it obvious this switch should operate for a very long time

The Cons:
• Danged pricey for a footswitch. But like all things musical or otherwise, you ultimately get what you pay for.

Bottom line: A well worth it investment for something that should likely never have to be replaced. I ordered only one first to see how well it would work for my configuration and now that I know it is built well and works so well I am ordering the second one I need today. Pricey yes, but as a full time gigging musician I cannot afford cheap equipment. You either buy nice.......or you buy twice.

Boss knocked it out of the park with this one. If you need a good dependable switch that will last a very long time......just order it. Your peace of mind at the gigs will thank you for it.

Perfect Add-On

By David B. from San Antonio, TX

I've owned an RC-3 Loop pedal for quite some time, but had rarely used it. So I decided to go with the foot switch add on to make the RC-3 easier to use. The foot switch does just that. No more double tapping and press and hold on the Looper, when I can just use the foot switch to stop, scroll, tap tempo, etc. It's great and make the RC-3 fun to use finally.
Note, this does come with a power cable splitter, so if you are using a One Spot for your pedal power, this uses the splitter for both. Also power is not required for this pedal to operate if using in momentary switching, only in latch mode does it require power.

Boss FS-7 Dual Foot Switch

By Billy F. from VA
Music Background: Professional

I love this pedal!! My name is Billy F. Otis. I am a one man band, singer / songwriter performing all original music. I use this pedal in conjunction with my Alesis SR -18 drum machine. I use the FS-7 to start and stop the drum machine and add drum fills to the pattern that I am playing. The B switch acts as the start and stop and the A switch adds the drum fills to the pattern and guess what? The unit is compact and easy to operate. It does not need a battery and it comes with a power splitter. I can now power it with my pedal board 9V adapter. How great is that? No more batteries which was my biggest knock against the FS-6 which I used until I got this pedal. The batteries either died at the worst possible time or had to be continually replaced. I am totally sold. Thanks to Boss for a great pedal and Reid Bright at Sweetwater for the help.
Regards,
Billy F. Otis

Wierd limitation

By Larry from Texas
Music Background: Gigging amateur

To be fair, it would earn 5 stars if I were not desperate for a feature others might not need. I use it with a Boss Acoustic Singer Live. I use it to turn harmony on and off and to a less important degree, mute. The ASL requires a momentary switch and unpowered in that mode the FS-7 does the job. But what I really need is a light that will let me know if I turned harmony off when I ended that last song. It's quite awkward to turn around and look for the tiny led on the amp 10 feet away on a brightly lit stage. So we add power and we do get a light on each switch...but in the obligatory momentary mode, we get a momentary light. It only lights when you tap the switch (either for harmony on or harmony off) then turns off, leaving you with no visible indication of where you are. Seems to be a fairly useless feature. I don't really need a light to flash once to tell me my foot is activating a switch!
So in summary what I need is a momentary switch accompanied by a latching light. This device is not up to that task.
To be clear and not discourage other uses, in the latching mode, the lights latch as one would expect, but the switch does require power to operate in latch mode. Without power it operates only in momentary. So make sure you know what your device requires and I'd think your Sales Engineer would be your best source for this assistance.

Exactly what I needed!

By JoJo
Music Background: beginner

I'm a beginner and have been using a Boss RC-3 looper for a while. However, I got tired of bending over with a guitar strapped on to change the backing tracks on my looper. I was deciding between the Boss FS-6 and FS-7. My concern with the FS-6 was that it was battery-only. I thought about the idea of adding an on-off switch or a 9V battery clip converter to use a power supply. While the FS-7 uses the PSA-120 power supply (as do my 6 Boss pedals), I was worried that the design of the footswitch would be awkward and clumsy compared to side by side, and that it might slide around when I used it. Some FS-6 users mentioned that you just unplug the instrument cable each time you're finished, but I was concerned that continually unplugging and plugging the cable would wear out the 1/4" input on the FS-6. So I took a chance and bought the FS-7, along with a 3' Hosa straight-angled TRS/stereo cable from Sweetwater. First time using Sweetwater an I am impressed! Great selection of products and super-fast processing and shipping (and candy!) The FS-7 is easy to use, not awkward and doesn't slide around thanks to rubber feet on the unit. Don't know why I waited so long.

Using it with Boss GT 1000

You can use it without power if on momentary mode, for the latch mode you will need an AC power source, space saver, excellent response, high quality build, now I am using it with the boss GT 1000, and it is giving me an extra two buttons for the unit, I use one for he tuner and the other for the delay tempo.

Sand!

By Sweetwater Customer

I originally had 2 of the FS 5U pedals to control my Boss RC-3 looper. But I went out and bought this FS7 in order to have more room on my pedal board. Problem is, I have 2 gigs that are in the sand. Not the Stage, but the venue is a beach venue in the sand. I found the sand from my shoes would get into the pedal and actually stop it from working. I went back to the FS5 because sand cannot get in. Just not a good pedal for my needs.

But if you want the lights to work just insert a battery. The size makes it perfect for pedal boards.
