So much fun
I didn't know a lot about Firebirds other than they looked great before I got one. This is the most expensive guitar I've ever bought. Here's what I've learned. This guitar is a lot of fun to pick up and play. It has a neck like a SG as the body connects near the 19th fret. The inlay markers and side dots take on a new level of importance as using the body as a reference, especially if you are used to playing a Les Paul will have you playing too high on the neck. The banjo tuners are a trip. They do add some weight to the neck, but I really just love looking at them. The pickups are bright and give this guitar a different, unique sound. The vibrato is a bit stiff but was as expected. The biggest issue I have is the controls are not intuitive. The bridge volume is swapped with the neck tone as compared to a Les Paul. And the cable is so close to the bridge volume that you can't fit a finger between the knob and the cable. It just forces you to interact with the guitar a bit different than I'm used to. This guitar is intended to be a replica and it delivers. The quality is top notch. If I were updating this guitar but wanted it to sound and look essentially the same, I'd just update the control layout and move the cable input a bit. I might also update the Vibrola, but it does have its charm. This guitar is so different and distinctive, I can't not love it. I am very happy with the purchase.
