THE BEST COLUMN ARRAY!

By Sweetwater Customer from Nepal
Music Background: Audio visual rental

Its the Best sounding column array. Its a bit pricey but for the quality it is worth it. I have used it for numerous international conferences, concerts and Dj. Everyone gives that unbelievable look once they hear it. I Have used it for annual Jazzmandu festival here In Kathmandu Nepal for the past few years and so far all international artists and music lovers loved it. With additional EKX sub woofers it even sounds better. Looking forward to receiving Evolve 90 soon.

I bought it to use for everything, it works very well. I took it for a few events outside and got a lot of compliments for the size and the output.

Great portability and ease of deployment

By JB R. from Tallahassee, FL
Music Background: Live sound engineer for 30 years from clubs to arenas.

I purchased one of these to use as a delay speaker at small festivals. It works great! I appreciate having the ability to adjust the sub level independently and I have used just the sub to augment another small pair of speakers I own.
I purchased a second unit and have run a few small bands through them and they perform well. They were a huge hit at a party with playback music, and the built in delay allowed me to spread the music around the entire large area with ease.
I bought the sub covers, they are great. I will be saving up for the road case to keep them in the best shape.

Great PA System

By Jasper G. from SYRACUSE, NY

I was looking at another sound system, but Ryan convinced me that this was what I was looking for. I have since added another one and couldn't be happier. They sound amazing and my entire system, including CDJ's and a mixer fit in my car. If anything, that are too loud to be played in most settings. If your are on the fence, I recommend these 100%.

CFR

By Fred R. from Birmingham, AL
Music Background: weekend warrrior for almost 60 years!

First I want to thank Jason Filloramo for his advice on this purchase. I got the Evolve 50 and a small Mackie mixer thanks to Jason and that is a great combo! The Evolve 50 sounds amazing. I play pedal steel and my steel through the Evolve is the best sound I have ever had. Steel, vocals, and guitar are what I have put through the evolve so far and the results are all excellent. Also, my vocal effects (harmonizer) sound more present and authentic through this than ever before. Also, the effects on the Mackie board are excellent. Highly recommend!

Had to hear it to believe the hype...

By charlie from Georgia
Music Background: professional

Well, it's true. This system sounds every bit as good as raved about. The tweakable midrange is perfect for dialing the amount of edge or presence you need. I tweaked 2K down by -2db and it sweetened out the mids considerably. Cool thing is you can independently adjust the db out of the highs and lows as well, so you can tailor the EQ that sounds best to your ears. As far as power...there's plenty there. While on the gig I cranked it to see what it would do during the dance set and it did not disappoint. I will say there is a difference between my EKX15 sub and this 12" sub as the 15" does kick stronger especially on the very bottom end. However, in a restaurant setting I was having a hard time dialing in the correct amount of bass as the 15" seemed to be overkill and I was getting complaints about volume. With the 12" Evolve sub the bass is still punchy but tighter and the low end doesn't wander around the room...so to speak. I asked my regulars what they thought and there was nothing but praise. So, to recap. If you're looking for a sweet sounding system that can still kick some butt and set up in less than 2 minutes...this is your guy...Mr. Evolve 50

AMAZING!

By Scott from Wisconsin

The EV Evolve 50's seem to consistently come up as some of the highest-rated column array's out there. Sure, they are a bit pricey but they are well-worth it! Solid build quality, excellent and versatile electronics, quickest and easiest set-up out there, and the sound was simply amazing! Sweetwater's quick delivery had them here in time to debut for an outdoor gig with a rockabilly trio I'm in. We mixed 3 drums, 3 vocals, bass, and guitar with a QSC TouchMix 8 (also highly-recommended!) into the pair of Evolve 50's. Surprising thump out of those 12" subs. The tops provided an impressive coverage and the mids/highs were incredibly crisp, clean, and clear. The vocals and guitar were amazingly clear and well-defined in the mix. The mix just sounded so amazingly clear (did I already say that?). Many compliments from some musician friends who were out in the audience. Paul Eckert was very helpful (Thanks!) and stands by to assist if there's ever any issue, but with the quality of EV's build, I don't anticipate any issues..

Happy customer

By Godfrey from Bx NY

I just love this speaker, it's more powerful than it looks. My neighbors can't believe the sound that comes from it, it's very powerful for it's size, I play my iPad, phone and also my tv from it, I was considering getting one more to have a pair just for balance but the one is enough. Excellent investment

Not worth the Price...

By Das M. from Chicago
Music Background: Professional fulltime

I have run sound for a few bands using these as mains. They are in a word... MEH!

Harsh is the first thing I noticed as I brought 4 of these (in mono) up to volume. The throw was poor in several different rooms. Meaning -15-20' from the array the sound just went to mid/high mush. Subs like these cant throw very far and inside 20' the sound was ok but not what I would call "good". The vocals were hard to eq, with spikes at louder SPL's and no way to eq them into place, it took a considerable amount of compression on the vocals to keep them in the mix; at least with a Soundcraft U16 or an XR18. Want to run the bass or kick through them... not great either, but better than nothing in the FOH mix.

If the dance floor fills up, forget it. That is where these types of Arrays fail a room. The mix was lost as the array's cant cut through the density and the majority of the arrays is blocked when the floor fills up. In this environment a 12" speaker on a poll would work better then arrays on the floor.

Canned music (DJ) was considerably better sound wise. That is where these speakers work best, but for live acts at small club volumes these are just not cutting it. Overall volume (SPL) is not really the issue. Clean balanced sound at higher SPL's with live vocals is very much a concern.

The next week in the same room I used a pair of Turbosound Ip2000. Those worked a bit better. But still struggled with the inherent weakness' of these small arrays. Where it took 4 EV50s to fill a room. 2 Ip2000 did an equal or better job, for 600.00 less a speaker and a smoother response. The off angle projection was also better than the EV's, but not as good as BOSE.

Sound protection is exceptional in small to midsize rooms. I use it mainly for 2 piece unit could do more. i would recommend this to any one wanting his quality and ease of transport.

Best kept secret in portable sound!

By RCarbaugh from NYC
Music Background: Live church sound engineer 30+ years

Got this system for our kids ministry at church, but decided to try it in the 400 seat auditorium for the main church. Wow. I was shocked. Bought the Evolve 30M for the kids and kept this for church. With a live band (electronic drums), 35 voice choir, worship team, etc., it blew away our other portable PA both from a volume point of view and quality of sound. The bass guitar sounded fantastic, although I added a little more depth with my powered single 18"for the kick. Add quick assembly, multiple inputs including BlueTooth and the other software functions, and there is no comparison.

If you are not trying to do a big room, look at this system's little brother, the Evolve 30M. Even more portable but with an 8 channel mixer, plenty for 2-300 people, and the speakers fit in a backpack!! They are both unreal.

AMAZING Sound from the Back Row

By StephenL from St. Louis, Mo.
Music Background: Play guitar, keys & sing lead vocals for 30+ years.

FULL DISCAIMER: I don't own this system but I did witness a top St. Louis guitarist/vocalist using the EV Evolve 50 at a winery recently.
This artist has a great voice, is a killer guitarist, and mixes up his set with backing tracks (minimal) and just him and his guitar.
I've seen him perform many times when I'm not performing and he usually performed with a Bose system (top of line) or QSC K-12.2s and a sub for larger gigs. Not on this day.
It happened to be Fathers Day 2020 and my sons & wife took me to our favorite winery for lunch. We sat about 30+ yards from the stage. Rick (the artist) knows me pretty well and asked if I would help him dial in his volume for his gig. Of course.
When he began to sound check guitar and vocal ... my toasted rav appetizer nearly fell into my glass of merlot!!
Holy Cr**! Not only was there PLENTY of volume WITH plenty of headroom to boot but the sonic goodness of the EVs was a pleasure. Just awesome bass, mids and highs. He did a vocal check, vocal with guitar, and vocal & guitar with backing track. Smooth. Amazing. Easy on and very pleasant to the ears. I currently carry and perform with the Bose (from Sweetwater of course!) ... but the EVs absolutely have my attention. Sure ... the lower than competing brands' prices is a big plus ... but that sound from the EVs ... oh man! ALL good!

Evovle 50s

By Jack M. from Warwick, R.I.
Music Background: Drummer, Sound Tech

I was using Eon 615s and sometimes the 618s. I was looking for a much smaller package for a rocking R&B 6 piece band. Hence the Evolve 50s. I got the sub bags also. I have to say that theses units will do all and then some for DJ and the band. Easy maneuvering with the DSP, we have a QSC Touchmix 16 and a Sound craft Signiture 10. The low end is a typical pattern for EV speakers and is superb on these. I also think the mid to high end is the same. I thought the fullness of the Eon 615s would be lost, nope. It's the xover point on these that count. We play to 75/150 people and these things crank. Sold the Eons and this is a great replacement and those sub bags are fantastic also. I'd like to thank Nick Huskins for all his help at Sweetwater and of course I'll be ordering other gear as well.

Surprisingly powerful quality sound.

By Sweetwater Customer from Michigan
Music Background: Guitar and vocals

Based on the recommendation of Jared Kalish, our very knowledgeable Sales Engineer, we considered looking at column powered speakers instead of the traditional style PA system for our 5 piece Classic Rock Band. We plays small-medium size indoor venues typically bars/pubs. Jared certainly steered us in the right direction. The vocals in particular sound great and the bass response is better than I thought it would be.
Jared has been extremely helpful in all of the purchases we have made using his advice and is a real pleasure to work with.

Incredible Sound

By Reills from Atlanta

The EV Evolve 50's are worth the investment. They're perfect for any small to mid size venue. They sound so good. I had someone come up to me during a recent event and he was shocked at the quality of sound they produced. I've been DJing for 10 years and that was the first time I've been complimented on my speakers. I just wish EV made a 2,000W column speaker so I could use them for my larger events. Highly recommend.

BLOWN AWAY!

By Beth H. from Pinckneyville, IL
Music Background: DJ/KJ

Five years ago we started our DJ/Karaoke show. I purchased a set of Mackie Thump 12's which have done wonderfully for me throughout the years. I decided though that I wanted to look at something in the line array systems and started researching what was out there.
First thought we had of course was Bose because of the name but also had purchased the Bose S1 pro speaker and was impressed by the sound quality of it.
We are on a budget though so I started shopping and listening to different systems, Bose, LD Maui, JBL, and then EV
After listening to those, I could not believe how the EV was superior over all.
After messaging my sales engineer Ty Heimann and speaking with him more about the Ev 50, I was convinced that was the one to get. A big thank you to Ty for never steering me wrong with any of my equipment purchases and always being there to help, should I have any questions!
This speaker is the best I have purchased yet! I could have saved some money by going with The Maui or JBL, but the sound of this little set up was just amazing! I used just the one this past saturday night at a DJ/Karaoke gig. My singers were blown away as were the other bar patrons. Clear sound, great deep thumping bass when needed and just over all excellence in one streamlined package! Did I mention how sleak and attractive this setup is also? ;) No more need to use covers to hide those ugly speaker stands!
With scheduled weddings in the coming year, including our son's :) I will certainly be purchasing the mate to this!
(I was a tad worried about the weight of the sub being almost 60lbs , being a smaller female. But the handles placed on top and sides helped a lot and I had very little trouble at all loading it into the back of my SUV. )
If you are on the fence about ordering this speaker, don't be, it will be the best decision you have ever made for your sound system.

Will the Evolve 50 Work for a Classic Rock Band - YES!

By Sweetwater Customer

I belong to a 4 piece classic rock band that performs at local bars, clubs and civic organizations. We have been using EV - EKX 15 powered mains, EKX 12 powered monitors and an EKX 15 powered sub for our shows. This setup was superb sounding but really kind of overkill and heavy for the size of the venues we gig. Our crowd sizes are typically range from 75 to 150 people. We are older guys and lugging this stuff around was starting to take its toll.

After doing considerable, competitive research and listening demos, I decided to purchase two Evolve 50 systems and "retire" our EKX mains and sub. My main concern was that we would not have enough dynamic throw for our vocals or bottom end for the kick drum in larger venues. I can tell you that after our using the Evolve 50's for our last 4 indoor gigs, I now have no concerns whatsoever!

The Evolve 50's totally blew our band members away. The sound purity, headroom and presence of these units is simply outstanding! They produce excellent room dispersion and more than enough tight thump on the bottom end. I received compliments from fellow musicians and customers about how clear and dynamic the PA sounds. I should also mention that we use an Allen & Heath ZED 16FX mixer.

I can say that this EV system is not just for DJ's and acoustic acts. Our experience so far is that properly set up and EQ'd, a couple of Evolve 50's can probably handle 95% of the typical classic rock & blues band venues just fine. For outdoor gigs, I would probably bring our EKX sub - just in case. The price point of the Evolve 50 system represents outstanding value for money and you won't throw your back out loading in and out! Buy it! You will not be disappointed.

A big shout out to Sweetwater's Bob Mondok for providing excellent customer support and a great deal!

The best gear purchase Ever!!

By Rodney from Spokane Wa

I dont like writing reviews but I felt I needed to write this to help others with the decision I agonized over for a month.
What portable line array should I buy.

After taking the last 7 years off from live music, my oldest daughter (27) and myself started playing an accoustic duo show recently. I had a pair of EV ELX112p speakers that we would tote from show to show and the sounded great. At 51 and a broken back and years of abuse to my body I needed to find a simpler solution to our set up. The 12s were overkill for most or the events we do.

I considered purchasing the maui speakers, then the Bose. But to get the Bose I wanted I had to spend around 2300.00. I did not want to spend that much and thought well I could get two of the Maui speakers instead for around 1200.00. Then came accross the EV Evolve 50. For years I have ran EV speakers so started researching and all of the reviews I could find anywhere said this was a 5 star unit. I consulted with my rep at Sweetwater and he directed me to the EV Evolve 50. I have bought many pieces of gear in life that I wished I had spent more after making a thrifty purchase. Not knocking Maui at all I have never heard them. Bose are simply Bose hard to say a bad word about them. For me, I justied upgrading to EV Evolve 50 with the mind set that if I were not happy with them, I would return it and purchase the more expensive Bose unit.

The speaker arrived a day prior to a show but it was very easy to set up and get a good tone so I took it to a wine room gig that is in a strip mall. The room is long and skinny...prob 30 feet by 70 feet. Pretty bouncy room as far as sound goes. We set up at the far end of the room and had about 40 guests in the room. The first thing I noticed when playing music via bluetooth is that the entire room was filled equally with music and a nice even volume.

Before I tell you the second thing I noticed I should say we use a Berhinger x18 mixer and ELectrovoice N/D967 vocal mics. (Check them out you will love them) Lastly we each play a Taylor guitar and we do both accoustic only songs and do use some backing tracks.

The Second thing I noticed was this is the first PA I have owned that accurately captures the true tone and texture of my daughters voice. Absolutley stunning clarity and both with accoustic only and backing track songs. Bass is nice and tight and highs and mids are perfect.

The next show we had a few days later was at an outdoor show at a Resort on Deer Lake Washington. The grass they set us up on is about two acres and there were about 100 people. I was concerned that this little speaker could not fill up the area for all of the people scattered about. Amazing...covered the lawn and more. Had people pull off the lake to come check it out. Everone that we talked to about the speaker could not believe its ability and tone. In no way was I even pushing the speaker and we had volumes that were borderline too loud for some. Always crystal clear sound though at any volume we played.

Last room we played was a brew house with 30 foot ceiling, hard walls and floor. There were about 50 guests and we achieved the same results. Fantastic sound!!! Amazing sound dispersion throughout the room.

We simply love this thing. Its easy. its light, it sounds amazing and does100% capture my daughters voice perfectly.

Con: If I had any con about this speaker is a couple of times now the sub gets my jumbo going a little rumble low bass feedback. I am still playing with it and getting it dialed. I am sure I will get this resolved.

Pro: Above everything I mentioned, when I started live music some 22 years ago, I hauled gear in a truck and trailer that didnt sound this great and I can fit guitars, mic stands mixer and Evolve 50 in the back seat of my truck.

If you are riding the fence on what system to try out for your needs...Dont buy until you research or try the Electrovoice Evolve 50...if you buy one I cant see how you could be dissapointed.

I've tried and tested every line array out there and this is hands down THE BEST I've ever owned for so many reasons:

1) Light weight and compact
2) Sets up in seconds
3) It gets so loud I can't even turn it all the way up
4) Incredibly clear with lots of definition
5) Plenty of Bass for most occasions
6) Very well priced (half the cost of Bose)
7) Built in Bluetooth
8) Built in Treble, Mid, Bass and Sub adjustments
9) Even when placed slightly in front of me on stage, it's so clear I don't need a monitor
10) It looks like Lamborghini designed it

100% better than EON One

By Eric from Newport News, VA
Music Background: DJ, Drummer, Sound Engineer, Vocalist

Props to JBL -- they put out the EON One, and my church bought a pair to replace their PA, and they're really great! I was thinking about converting my DJ setup (mostly weddings) to a column arran when EV put these out and the big question I couldn't get over was "why is the Evolve 60% more expensive than the EON?"

Having never heard them I took a leap of faith and bought a pair of Evolve's. I compared the 2 systems side-by-side and either the JBL is overpriced or the EV is under!

With no DSP I VERY much prefer the tone of the EV, the asymmetrical vertical spread is PERFECT, and of course they have WAY more power throughout the frequency spectrum. I suspect I can get away with using no additional subwoofers until the party is at least over 100, maybe 150. These 12's are just 12's at the end of the day, but they really do slam the low end pretty well!

All in all I'm incredibly satisfied and wish I would have bought them sooner. Don't make my mistake. Add to Cart.

Makes my life easier!

By Ronald H. from SC
Music Background: 40 years. Full time musician.

I am a solo, acoustic, loop musician. Quick drum loop, bass layered with acoustic via boss oc-3. I"ve been using Bose L1M2 with B2 bass module for the past 5 years. It has served me well. I was looking for something to help make my life a little easier. I found it! I used the Evolve 50 tonight for the first time. It sounded awesome and was very easy and quick to set up and tear down. Big full sound! Im afraid I"m gonna loose some muscle tone, now that I don"t have to wrestle with the Bose system 4 nights a week. You won"t be disappointed.

Flexible, Reliable, Hassle-Free Sound

By WaterBound from Chincoteague Island, VA
Music Background: Composer, performer, engineer

My acoustic trio uses the Evolve 50 in settings that range from house concerts to halls with 250 people in the audience. We found this system to be extremely easy to set up, noise free, highly reliable and very flexible. The Evolve 50 is a perfect tool for soloists, and duos. With a right mic or a a mixing board the Evolve 50 can support much larger ensembles.

The DSP gives plenty of control over both the EQ and crossover point. That"s extremely helpful when adjusting for variations in the sonic characteristics of the venue.

Being able to control input level from an iPad on stage is a plus. So is the streaming feature. Much to like about this gear.

My trio works off a single microphone manufactured by Ear Trumpet Labs. These, old-style, condenser mics are becoming very popular with bluegrass and acoustic music groups. I"ve seen them used to support as many five musicians. However because of the wide horizontal and vertical capture scope of these mics, setting up monitors and positioning the mains to avoid feedback can be tricky. Many bands give up on monitors with these mics. But, we found the Evolve 50 to be the perfect companion to this style of microphone. A light touch on the EQ and small change in the crossover point and we get excellent monitor and house levels without feedback.

Thanks to the Evolve 50 we"re sounding better than ever, carrying less stuff and soon going on eBay to unload a lot of gear we no longer use!

Absolutely the best!

By Shell from Colorado Springs
Music Background: Dance instructor

I am a line dance instructor and I needed my own system due to the fact we did not have a DJ to run music for me. My husband suggested a PA system, I tried several before landing on the EV. This is easy for me to carry and set up. (I could set up my old speakers due to the poles, could not lift the speakers, had to have a good size gentleman help me due to the weight & size) The EV is so easy to put together, easy to set up for each venue, saves my settings and the board is on the back of the sub, I plug my mic and my mac into the system and go. My dancers have said my voice is clearer that ever. I had never used a system before, always had the bar plug me into their speakers, etc. I knew nothing of how the sound system worked, just knew where to plug in at the venues. I am so absolutely blown away with the sound and how it projects through the whole bar and sounds good in the back as well as up front. Worth every penny, my husband has been in a band for years, and he is amazed at the sound.

Absolutely Thrilled with the EV Evolve 50!

By Sol K. from Smyrna,DE
Music Background: Singer/Songwiter/Solo Performer

I've been a full-time musician for over 30 years. Most of my 7000 plus performances have been solo and I have to say this is absolutely the best sounding PA I've ever used. This baby, by itself, covers larger private functions (where I use backing tracks to keep people dancing)...while also covering my regular restaurant gigs with a sweetness, warmth and clarity that I've never experienced before. I hear a very pleasing separation of my vocals from the instruments which helps me hear pitch better in some of the noisier venues. I have received so many compliments since implementing this system to my act. People say the volume is perfect...that they can hear each other talk, yet still really enjoy the music. I absolutely give this system a 5 star rating! Go Getcha One! or Two!!!

Best Column Package Out There

By Josh from New York, NY

As a looping solo performer, full range systems are a must. Even more, a full range system that fits onto a cart and doesn't kill you during set up and tear down is almost non-existent. Enter the Evolve. Simply put, this speaker is in a class of it's own. This is a real PA with real PA strength. If you're looking for a mellow bose system, this will get the job done at low volumes, but where it really shines is pushing it like you would a traditional house system. Its diminutive size and easy setup seems to understate what it can do. This thing will push air for real. Two, or even one, at FOH will cover most venues with volume to spare. Well done, EV.

Outstanding!

By GREGG M. from Boston MA
Music Background: Wedding DJ

I was a faithful Bose owner for several years, but when I had a performance issue with one of my L1 towers, I decided it was time to upgrade and look into a similar column/array system. I went from two Bose L1s/B2s to two Evolve 50s systems and so glad that I did! Three channel mixer, multiple XLR/AUX inputs, Bluetooth and simple equalizer adjustments with LCD display with memory. Not only did I not compromise on sound, they were less expensive and set-up and breakdown is even easier. I have been using them since September and getting nothing but compliments on both the sound and look of the Evolve 50s. If you are looking for an updated option to your Bose towers, this is the next best thing.

The 12 inch subs kick. I can also squeeze these units into some pretty tight spaces without stands that take up a ton of space, and have cables everywhere. Set up is a breeze. Prior to my Evolve 50s, I owned two QSC K12s, and a KW181. I do not miss them. What I have been surprised most about, is how great my Line 6 Helix sounds through these speakers, and how great my LR Baggs Anthem/Venue DI sounds. Super practical system for venues with 200-300 people. Best of all, you don"t kill people with a narrow dispersion like you would see with a K12. The sound is evenly distributed up to about 40 feet. I use a QSC 16 TouchMix as my main board with a BBE Sonic Maximizer, and put both in units in the "Live" Setting. Overall, these units are great unit, and make so much sense on so many levels.

Evolve 50

By George E. from Green Valley AZ

As a solo act , the hardest gigs were long narrow dining rooms. How to get the sound to the back of the room without blowing out the people in front.
With the Evolve 50 there seems to be a presence enabling me to project sound without overwhelming volume. In the past I have used Bose, Fishman, and Fender systems, but the evolve 50 projects clarity and presence like I have never experienced. wow, wow, Wow.
Thanks to my sales rep. Nick Lamendola for his product knowledge and advice. He makes doing business easy.
