Software Compatibility

Most software is compatible with both Mac and Windows computers, but check to make sure.

If you're using Pro Tools, AAX plug-ins (or RTAS for older versions) are what you need. Most other Mac DAWs support AU plug-ins. VST is compatible with a number of Mac and Windows programs. Be sure you choose plug-ins that work with your DAW!

The Cure for Cookie-cutter Drum Sounds

Tired of cookie-cutter drum kits? If so, you need Toontrack’s Custom Shop EZX. Chock-full of made-to-order, custom, and rare instruments, this collection will inject your compositions with a special personality — the kind that can’t be mass-produced or mimicked. We’re talking six types of woods and several different metals. Four full kits with extra kicks and snares. Twelve cymbals and two sets of hi-hats. Beyond that, sticks and brushes are available for select kits and instruments. Custom Shop EZX was recorded at Brooklyn Recording by producer Joe Blaney (The Clash, Prince, Keith Richards) and includes a collection of MIDI grooves and fills performed by ace drummer Stephen Belans.

5 Stars + Swirls!

If you're looking for great sounding acoustic drums, this is one to get. To me, this collection isn't about obtaining hard-to-find collectable kits, but more about adding quality drums that were extremely well sampled in an organic setting to my collection. The drums also include extra articulations that other EZXs don't have. For instance, it's one of only 3 EZXs (that I'm aware of) to have extensive dedicated brush swirl MIDI grooves (the others being Jazz & Big Band). The kits work very well for any genre where you want an acoustic sound. The Canopus snares in particular have a tight & ringy quality that's perfect for jazz & funk. I just wish there were a few dampened snare samples to complement the mix.
The included MIDI is a bit sparse but shows off what these drums can do. There are 3 folders for Sticks in song-part format, and 5 folders for Brushes. These Brush folders are the key to getting realistic brush swirls & drags, giving an impressively authentic sound. And if you have the Jazz and/or Big Band EZXs, you can swap snares & MIDI files for a wide range of brush sounds. The other reviews are spot on; this EZX is extremely well sampled and very much worth adding to your drum arsenal.

Great Natural Drum Sounds

If you use Toontrack software, this pack is wonderful for natural drum sounds. Even the cymbals have nice dry, warm tones. These drums would be good for Singer-songwriter, Light Rock, Blues, R&B and even some Jazz.

Warm and delicious drum sounds

This extension is by far one of the most powerful extensions for your EZDrummer pack. It has pristine and delicious sounds that will help you to tailored your songs. Excellent for pop, soft rock, folk. And I'm agreed with another review. This expansion gives the touch of John Mayer's drums in his album "Continuum". EZDrummer keep going with the good job, you are beating your rivals!

Best EZX to date!

This expansion is the best one by far. It gives you a sound that can go anywhere from a deep warm drum sound like one can find in John Mayer's continuum album but can also push out some great classic rock sounds. The snares range from fat and deep to Tight and snappy. The kick drums are so well recorded. They are so versatile. The best kick samples so far, even compared to SD 2.0 expansions. The cymbals are the best (I can't say this enough). They sound warm (can't say this enough) and they are so well recorded. Most sampled cymbals sound out of place and too harsh. These are just perfect. All the articulations are recorded so well. The hi hats are my favorite. So good. Hi hats are my most criticized thing in a sample library.This EZX nailed it better than any expansion. So warm (im sorry!!!) The articulations are so realistic! The toms are great too! I haven't had much time to play with them but from what I have used they are great. Finally the mics are all excellent at capturing these kits (Use original mix preset to get the most control over the mics). The OH is perfect. The room mic is to die for. The hi hat mic was recorded just right (I hate when hi hat mics have too much 400-600hz) the engineer knew what they were doing. 5/5 for sure. Very Happy with my purchase. My only suggestion for toontrack would be to add a ribbon hi hat mic option or a close mono amb mic.

There are tons of expansions to flesh out your palette, and software such as Superior Drummer if you want to dive in deeper.
