Slinky Cobalt Are Amazing!
I'm loving these on my Fender P 5 string.
I've tried a few other brands/styles of strings on this bass and Cobalt have absolutely won the competition.
These are my favorite and I keep at least one backup set on hand at all times.
The tone just sounds right to me; lively and responsive, but not too bright. Dark and sonorous deep tones, but still clear and not murky. It's a P bass with a low B string, so of course I'm getting sonorous tones, but these Ernie Ball strings hit just right. Instead of the P bass "thud" that can be less focused, I'm getting sounds that are more like slamming a massive rock into an enormous metal wall: tight and ringing!
The clean tones are crystal clear and beautiful coming from a variety of amps. At home I'm bouncing between Orange and Darkglass (I'll admit the Darkglass is much more the sound I prefer) and through unprocessed studio headphones you hear every nuance while playing.
Speaking of nuances, the Cobalt strings are incredibly responsive. You can coax what feels like endless subtle variations out of your sound. Using fingertips and a few different picks and they're giving me unique tones taylored to what I want to hear (best overall pick sound is coming from 3mm Gravity pick). They also respond well to tapping although a zingier string might be best there.
Now plug into some distortion and they're ripping it up! I've used a few engines and like the Alpha Omega best with these strings and my bass. You can dial in more than enough sizzle if needed.
I also like these a lot through Darkglass X engine because it retains the low bass tone; this is my starting point most times and then I branch out to the Alpha Omega when I want to get wicked.
The theme here getting back the Ernie Ball Cobalt is that these strings (.130 tuned to B) deliver the goods in every application!
Life is long with these; sound stays fresh for weeks. I change strings more frequently than most folk, but I can rock these a bit longer than other strings. The price won't break the bank either and that's nice.
Intonation is perfect and they stay in tune phenomenally long. I'm checking throughout the day and these rarely need a tweak at the tuning machines.
Sustain is long, too, with these. The sound will just keep ringing, and with an overdrive it feels like you've got a sustain pedal in the mix and it's never gonna fade.
Overall, obviously, I'm just all about playing on EB's Cobalt. Recommended 100%
Nice
Great sounding flat wound string! Very smooth feel and sound!
Great sound
These strings gave new life to my bass. They have a nice sustain to them. And they're not hard on the fingers.
Great strings
Good mid fat, low end smooth, not to tinny. Good gigging set.
Punchy and bright
Great tone. These last longer than the standard strings. I used these on my Sting Ray and they fit the bass perfect. I like to play with my nails and they certainly have that bright scratchy sound I'm looking for. Low end sounds great too. I tune the 5th string down to A and it keeps its tonal quality. I love playing John Myung bass lines and I think these are the pair he sponsors.
Good for any style of music
From country to metal these strings deliver. If you're on the fence about buying these, go ahead and pull the trigger. You won't be disappointed!
Amazing strings
I love these strings for many reasons their bright, they have an even volume, they stay in tune, and I can't break them with the nickel plated strings I always break one during a show and they don't stay in tune these Cobalt Slinky's are my favorite strings no contest
Fantastic
I love the added gain these beauties deliver. On my Ibanez's Bertolini pickups, they brings out the high and low freqs with a bit of a natural mid scoop, which is exactly what I like. Its the perfect accentuation to my hartke hi-drive amp. They sound very heavy, with a nice "chugga chugga" clap if I had to describe the timbre. After having only used nickel wound Ernie balls exclusively since I began playing, these things totally rocked my world. The sound is to die for imo. Great for heavy metal and prog but certainly not perfect for every scenario, but what can I say? As far as the general feel goes, they seem to feel as though they have a heavier density than nickel, but the wound wire feels very soft and smooth to the touch. Its a very interesting experience, bit Im glad I finally tries cobalt strings because I dont think Im ever going back!
The Goldilocks set
Among bass strings, there are good, better, and best. To my ears, this Cobalt set definitely ranks as the best.
I play on a 5-string Carvin with active/passive soapbar pickups, like Bartolinis. The Cobalt strings have a very full, well-rounded sound that has a good low-mid presence without loss of brightness. The subharmonics shine through at just the right level. Among round-wounds, this is my favorite set ever. It's not night-and-day better than any other strings, it"s like Goldilocks - just right. I don't foresee myself ever using a different set of roundwounds, unless these should no longer be available.
Obviously, your results may very depending on your instrument, pickups, playing style and signal run.
The Best Bass Strings On The Market!
These strings sound better (brighter, clearer and fuller) than both steel and nickel strings!
They feel smooth and are extremely playable!
John Myung from Dream Theater uses them exclusively now, and after you try them you'll know why!
Thank you for making these Ernie Ball!

Have these on all 6 of my Basses and they bring out sounds that amaze me. The best strings from the best store.
Will Never Go Back
These strings were a little "too much" for my active 4-string bass. But for my passive 5-string Jazz bass?
Holy. Smokes.
There's no going back. Not that I want to.
freaking awesome sound
I have used many types of strings in my life, as a bassist, the Ernie Ball strings are my go-to string.. I thought that they couldn't get any better.. boy was I wrong! The Ernie Ball Cobalts really opened up my mids, the highs were clear and defined, unbelievable lows.. LOVE!!
Cobalt STrings are AMAZING!
So excited about the great sound these strings put out. I am amazed at the difference in the bottom tones, sustain, and they are staying in tune much better than other strings I have used. I would recommend these to any bass player. They have given me more confidence in my playing and sound. Wish I knew about these when I played professionally! THANK YOU for this great product.
Good strings
Wow this strings are so beautiful! Punch bass!! Very smooth!! I liked it! Muy buenas las recomiendo! Mucho
Low B Immediately Broke
I didn't even make it to the other strings. The B string popped and unraveled before getting even close to pitch. Avoid this garbage.
