sE Electronics DynaCaster Dynamic Microphone Reviews

Dynamic Microphone with Integrated Preamp and Tone-shaping Switches

The easiest way to get a great-sounding recording is to get it right at the source — that’s where the sE Electronics DynaCaster comes in. This studio-worthy dynamic microphone offers the outstanding sound quality that sE’s V Series is known for while upping the ante with an in-line Dynamite-style active preamp. You also get a 3-layer pop filter to safeguard against distracting plosives, plus tone-shaping switches for dialing in your preferred sonic character. While it's tailor-made for vocals, the DynaCaster sounds just as great on guitar cabs and drums. With the DynaCaster and your audio interface, you’ll be able to achieve the sound you hear in your head, right from the get-go. To top it off, the DynaCaster is built like a tank, boasting all-metal construction that’s durable enough for the rigors of stage and studio life. Here at Sweetwater, we’ve recommended the sE Electronics DynaCaster to studio vocalists, podcasters, live-streamers, engineers, and producers. Take it for a spin, and you’ll understand why!

Just what I needed!

By Sweetwater Customer from Pennsylvania on October 17, 2023 Music Background: None

Just like one other reviewer, I am utilizing this microphone for ham/amateur radio and I could not be any happier. The cardioid pattern of this mic has helped immensely in eliminating background noise from the fans on my radio, amplifier and computer, allowing for a much cleaner sound over the EV RE320 I was using. Don't get me wrong, that was a great mic but with the built in Dynamite pre-amp, this microphone does everything I need it to do and more. Recent, unsolicited comments include "powerful audio" and "just enough bass" which, sounds great! Also a great size microphone for the radio shack.

sE does it again!

Solid mic build all around! The housing is tough and the dipswitches are amazing for dialing in that extra tonality. The low end is nice and the high end is smooth. The built in boost switch makes me want to use this mic over the SM7B now!

just what every broacaster need..

own several high-end mics, but this one is special, looks good on the stand, don't look like a clone b It just gives that sound that makes me sound like a famoso locator radial.

sE has done it again!

By Jeremy from Kenosha, WI on August 23, 2022 Music Background: Weekend warrior, content creator, streamer

For starters, I'm a huge sE fan. I have a few of their mics. Including their amazing v7 which I use live. I also use the V7 MC2 with my Sennheiser wireless system.

I'm a (sometimes) streamer so I'm always looking for that mic that I will stick with. I started with the SM7B many moons ago, which is great but I wanted something different (especially since everyone uses it) Ive used a rode broadcaster, re320, re20, re27n/d, procaster, pr30, pr40 etc you get the idea. Even some Lewitt condenser microphones. When this was announced, I knew it was the one.

The mic sounds great, not to mention all the built in EQ switches with the preamp. Pretty much any combination you could want! I mainly run it with the HPF and sometimes add a boost since that's where my voice seems to sound best. Even at flat EQ it sounds amazing!

Long story short, buy this. You will NOT be disappointed!

Built in EQ, Dynamite built in, compact size. This is really a no-brainer

is by far one of the best microphones I have used I've used Bob Heil's microphones
that worked very well but a bit higher price, The Dynacaster with the built in preamp
is the bees knees of this mic, it takes it to a new level
and I keep getting good reports from other hams. they all ways ask what mic am I using.

Awesome Broadcast Mic

By James Lind from Raleigh, NC on March 12, 2022 Music Background: Classical guitarist. Zoom meeting and training host . Live sound engineering.

Got this for spoken vocals for live streaming and meetings.

I've used Electro-Voice RE27N/D and RE320 extensively for this application. I've also used Shure SM7B, Rode Procaster, Heil PR40, Blue Spark, and some other large diaphragm dynamic mics.

I've had remarkable results from a pair of sE Electronics V7 mics for spoken luce vocal use. Stellar results from them. Way better than almost anything else at their price point.

So, I thought I'd try the sE Electronics DynaCaster Pro. Amazing mic. Detailed Faithful. Natural.

Slightly more mid-foreard than what I normally use. Tight controlled low end and low mid. The low mid mud zone is not mud. Clarity intelligibility and presence without harshness and well balanced.

I would use the sE Electronics DynaCaster Pro anytime as a slightly more low mid alternative to the Electro-Voice RE320 I use most frequently.

As a bonus, the built-in Dynamite preamp doesn't color a thing and removed the need for an external preamp such as a Cloudlfter.

About the only thing to consider is the location of the XLR connection near the stand/mount socket since the XLR connector is integrated into the stand/boom/arm mount articulated support. I didn't have any problem with mounting and connecting the XLR. Take a close look to assess your mount situation.

Dynacaster

As an amateur radio operator I found this mic to be an excellent match for my radio. The best mic I've used yet.

Awesome!

By Landon Barnacles on March 10, 2022

My new go to for anything I used to use an SM7B for. Still love the SM7B but if I had to choose, I'd go with this. This is a bit more versatile and you don't need extra equipment to boost the clean gain. Also the boosted clean gain seems to be a lot more clear. So far, everything I've done with this has been at least slightly better than the SM7B if not far better.

If you want an SM7B, get that. If you want that with more options and less additional equipment to buy, this would be my recommendation.

One thing to consider, I've had my SM7B for years and it has lasted through a lot of abuse. The Dyna is a fairly new mic. If it has any issues within the first year or it can't stand up to abuse, my opinion might change and I'll update/add a new review if that's the case.

If it lasts and this is the bar they are setting for quality, I am excited to try more sE Electronics gear.

Hidden Gem

By Sweetwater Customer on March 6, 2022

The sE Electronics DynaCaster is a hidden gem and beats the SM7B. It has a integrated dynamite preamp ( engage phantom power ) with 30db boost of clean gain which will eliminate the need for a cloud lifter and extra cable. Or you can leave it off. You also have six voicing to play with.

Diehard SM7B lover. Very impressed with the Dynacaster

By Sweetwater Customer on March 28, 2022

I've been writing and recording for over 30 years. I've tried many, many mics on my voice and the one that worked for me was the SM7b. I love that mic. It's darker and more natural than the mid forward and extremely bright mics like the RE320. Great for some, not for me. The Dynacaster was a go from minute one. I loved what I saw in the few reviews I watched enough to take a chance.

For me, I wanted a mic I could take to record remotely. Not having to carry a fethead or Cloudlifter is a huge plus. I have a small mobile kit that included my laptop, my interface and the Dynacaster. I can get studio quality spoken word recordings without worry. I travel with a Podtrak P4 as well just incase and with the Dynacaster Dynamite mic pre, I don't have to rely on the the semi-qesionable mic pre's in the the P4. Don't get me wrong, it's a great little machine for the price point, but crank up those pre amps, and you'll have a lot of noise. The Dynacaster eliminates that worry if I have to use it.

For the $ price point, you simply can't go wrong. I've since picked up the V7 and V7x. I may just add another Dynacaster. It's a great guest mic if you have any concerns as to whether your interview subject is good on mic. The triple plosive protection and then the massive wind screen makes that a non-issue as well. Nice work sE.

Good mic

By Sweetwater Customer on August 17, 2022

It's a good mic. I like the cord placement.
The dynamite, is super clean.

Its down side, seems to be the noise rejection when bumping the boom arm.
