Polyphonic Drop-tune Pitch-shift Guitar Pedal with Momentary/Latching Switch and True Bypass - Red

DigiTech’s Drop transforms your tuning with the click of a footswitch, allowing you to explore deeper tones and even cover bass duties with any standard 6-string. This pedal’s nine polyphonic pitch-shifted settings give you the power to drop your tuning from 1–7 semitones, a full octave, or a distinct octave-down setting that blends in your dry signal for enhanced clarity. No matter what setting you choose, the Drop offers spot-on and instantaneous down-pitched tracking. And despite its myriad sonic possibilities, the Drop sports a no-nonsense control scheme that consists of a single knob to choose your pitch settings and a momentary/latching footswitch. In particular, the Drop’s Momentary feature has won over scores of Sweetwater guitarists for its in-the-moment utility in live performance settings, as it allows you to either momentarily drop your signal or momentarily return to your dry signal depending on its current configuration. Take your tuning down a notch or 12 with the DigiTech Drop — no floppy strings required.

Don’t buy it

By FJ from Charleston

First one worked great. Until it didn't. Suddenly, there was no way to NOT have the Octave portion engaged. Digitech was no help at all. I bought a second one ( shame on ME) which worked great for about a month. Same issue now. I've tried active bass/passive bass, plugging into power strip, and directly to the wall.
No love. The octave portion engages no matter what.
Total waste of money, time effort. Been a long time Sweetwater customer. Nothing but good things to say about the company. Digitech, on the other hand…….

My favorite pedal, mainly because it’s two pedals in one

By Sweetwater Customer

Not only is this a drop pedal but it's also an octave pedal, which makes it two pedals in one. Worth every penny.

Fantastic

By David J. from SYLVA, NC
Music Background: Guitar

Having too much fun with this pedal. Only problem is it has to have its own independent power supply otherwise, some sort of feed back loop will start. No big deal at all. Good quality, pedal feels solid and works as it should. Once you make it to 5 semi tones or below you will notice a little muddiness, again definitely not a deal breaker. Super handy, would recommend to a friend.

My First Guitar Pedal

By Steven from Kentucky
Music Background: Guitar little over a year

I own only 1 electric guitar and was debating between this pedal and another guitar for lower tunings. I'm glad I chose the pedal. Works great just have to have volume louder than your strings or use headphones. Only con is there is no switch to totally turn off the pedal when not in use. Easy fix was to buy a switch for my wall outlet with a wired on/off switch which I can place on my desk beside my pedal. The signal goes thru the pedal if it is powered off so works great.

Sounds excellent, such a useful a tool!

By Cor from Georgetown, KY

in the past i used to keep similar guitars to have some in drop-tuning and/or i owned baritones;
if you're in a band maybe you still need to do that - but now i'm just a home hobbiest and i can
do any low tuning i want so easily and it sounds good; this is a massively useful tool for me.

My most used pedal

Music Background: Bass/Guitar

I'm in a few different bands playing stuff from Travis Tritt to Type O neg. This keeps me from constantly having to change tunings or switch between guitars. I primary use it for bass and I bought it after being suggested by my buddy. Almost everyone I know and play with has one on their board.

metal must-have

By River

i play a mix of metal and alt rock and this is by far my most used pedal. it saves me loads of time not having to do big jumps in tuning and i can keep my intonation since string tension doesnt change. sounds great even at C standard, and works out great for drop tunings too. at low amp volumes you'll notice a clashing sound between the guitar acoustics and the output tuning, but when i play with my band, my amp is cranked anyway so i never notice that clashing at full volume.

i'd consider this essential if you like to play metal and alt rock!

Just OK for Bass

By Matthew S. from Duluth, GA

I purchased this to manage a trio I play where the guitarist changes keys often. At 1/2 step down, it's good. Full step, so so. Full and a 1/2, barely tolerable. Anything past #3 on the settings it's ugly.

My opinion, for Bass, the technology does not match the price.

GAME CHANGER!

By Lee I.
Music Background: Hobbyist for 22 years

You can now play low tunings without having to have telephone wires for strings. I bought this because I got tired of tuning and retuning in between songs. This pedal is a game changer because of how seamlessly you switch between octaves with just the turn of a knob.

Does the job

By Randal from Florida

I play rhythm guitar for our praise and worship service. Oftentimes, if I practice alone using the audio, the key is lower than the key we are going to play it in live. I bought the Digitech Drop in order to practice using the chord configurations that we will be using during the service.

It does the job, but due to chording rather than playing single lead notes, there isn't quite the harmony between the different strings of the chord. It works, just not perfect and I'm okay with that.

2nd time buying

By Ben R. from Akron, OH
Music Background: 20+ years of guitar

So, I bought this pedal once last year to use with my Line 6 Helix, trying to save DSP. Unfortunately I didn't feel like they played well together and I returned it. Fast forward several months and I'm building a pedalboard and wanted to try it with regular pedals, and seeing David Hislop's newest pedalboard rundown made me more confident with giving it a second chance. Glad to say it works well. My one gripe is that I feel like it darkens my tone. But overall, I think it's worth it. Now... Based on other reviews I've read and watched on YouTube, I am wondering about the longevity. Only time will tell.

Great pedal!

By Stephen L.

This pedal is great for drop-tuning on the fly in a live setting without re-tuning your guitar or grabbing a new one. When using a clean tone and doing arpeggios, there is a bit of an abnormal attack on the notes. Using an overdrive masks the obscure attack, though. The signal when using it remains very strong; it seemed there was slightly less sustain when the pedal was engaged, but again, it is a very subtle difference. The further you drop the tuning, the more processed the signal sounds as well, which is to be expected. Practically speaking, I do not see why anyone would need to drop it low enough to the point the signal sounds processed unless you are dropping an octave to do a bass line. This pedal is a great addition to anyone's board, especially if you are out playing live and that "one song" in the setlist requires a drop-tuned guitar.

Side note - if you have a fuzz pedal, you can use the Octave+Dry setting to replicate an octave fuzz or micro synth bass sound, which is also fun!

Drop Those Guitars

By Ian K.

Previously I would have to bring 3-4 different guitars to our cover band gigs because songs are in different tunings and no one wants to watch the band tune to a different tuning between songs. This pedal solves all that, Now I just bring my primary guitar and a backup.

Sounds incredible, I don't know how they do it but especially in a live settings it's reaaaaaallly hard to tell the difference between a "dropped" guitar via this pedal and one that actually is tuned differently.

Works great on bass as well, just make sure to put it as close to your instrument as possible in the chain. We put ours right after our tuners and before our drives.

Very Useful

By Brandon

I have a few PRS tremolo guitars and unless set up for a lower drop tunning, they struggle to stay in tune lower than Drop D. This pedal solves that, I can go from standard to Eb/D# or lower. I prefer starting in drop D and using 1x semitones to C# and 2 to Drop C, can do some B for harder rock.

2-3 semitones is good, but gets more muddy as you go down past that.

Tone is pretty good, with an Eq pedal it would be perfect.

Nice pedal that's small and great for transport, put in front of amp or other pedals for best sound.

Only drawback is you need to play loud enough so you don't hear the strings in the original tuning. Easy to do, boss katana in 0.5 watt practice mode at half volume I can't hear guitar strings in original tuning.

MAGNIFICENT!

By Matthew G. from San Antonio, TX
Music Background: Pro Musician 40+ years

I love learning new songs. Keeps the brain sharp, ya know? But it is frustrating having to have to retune or switch guitars to accommodate songs in different tunings.

This Drop pedal was recommended to me by a friend in a cover band. He said it covered 95% of what they needed and tracked great.

He was right. ZERO tracking issues. It doesn't mess with my tone. Love it. Can really get you out of a songwriting slump, too. Try dropping to D standard and it'll jumpstart your creativity!

Thanks, Jordan for always getting this stuff to me quickly!

Works for what I needed

By Sweetwater Customer

I bought this to play a 2 minute song that is tuned down a whole step so I wouldn't t have to switch guitars or retune. I considered others that could do everything this does and more but don't know most things about them (I'm generally pedal averse). This does what I need it to do although it's s not ideal tone-wise. One feature I wish it had was a built in tuner. Don't know if that is possible but it would be handy and would take a pedal out of my very small chain. Seems to be solidly built.

Very handy tool!

By John C. from BREA, CA
Music Background: Made records recreationally since the '80s. Guitar and Bass.

This is great for dropping my pitch on the fly. I don't have roadies to hand me a different guitar and frankly, at home I like to just keep going with the same guitar and step on the drop instead. Note: closed ear headphones with good isolation are needed. It was weird with my favorite Sennheiser HD600 headphones where I can hear my guitar bleed through acoustically unless I crank the volume on my phones.

Also, this may be a huge ask but, I would love it if there was a tuning knob. When I'm learning a song from a bygone era, they aren't always tuned to 440. It would be great to turn a knob to adjust the pitch to the track without retuning the guitar. A boy can dream, right?

Does not work for Bass! Bad sound quality!

By Luis from Miami, FL

This is truly unfortunately that in 2024 digittech has not updated the quality in this paddle when it sounds like 1989 quality. The sampling in this pedal is horrible. It gets notes confused
, it doesn't understand. Low notes cannot work, pedal will not work with a bass guitar.

The quality of this pedal reminds me of my first digital bass pedal like the technology has not changed. They have not upgraded anything on it.

The tone, the attack and the headroom gets completely destroyed with his pedal.

By SA from North Fort Myers, FL

Im not sure where the quality control is being missed either DigiTech or Sweetwater. But I had to get an exchange for my first pedal because the box was tampered with and the pedal used or just not checked before packaging. My second one came in and the pedal this time is fine but again the box is in rough condition with packaging ripped and dented. Thankfully this time the pedal works.

Drop Tune drop kicks

By Bill from Arizona
Music Background: Been playing for churches for over 20 years.

The DigiTech Drop Polyphonic Drop Tune Pitch-Shift Pedal, for the most part, works excellent. In my experience, all pitch shifters have the same problem: they tend to bleed the original signal into the shifted signal. This is true for the DigiTech pedal, but the bled signal is less than I've experienced with other boxes. The real benefit of this pedal is that it makes it easy to play songs written in Eb and Ab on a guitar without a capo (consider this box an electronic capo!). Plus, by pushing a little further, you get a baritone guitar - great for playing songs written in D or C and getting that great low end. Overall, a unit well worth the money.

Awesome gigging tool

By Curtis from San Diego
Music Background: Semi-pro

This is my second one of these. I have one on my primary board since my band plays several songs that are tuned down a half step or a whole step. This pedal allows me to push the button (and turn the knob) and be ready for the next song without having to change guitars. There is no noticeable delay or loss of tone. So, when I built a back-up / flyaway board, I had to add one to it. One piece of advice, put it early in your pedal chain, that's where it works best.

The Pedal you NEED

By Ryan C. from New Hampshire
Music Background: Novice-Amateur Guitarist (non gigging)

The drop is amazing. I have always either been reluctant or refusing to tune my guitar down to play some of my favorite songs. Almost the entire 80's is a half to a full step down. This pedal achieves that down tuning to a T, without having to put your guitar and strings through the rigmarole of retuning.

I do not dabble in the drop D genre of playing, and while it won't get you the simple drop D (Low E to D and the rest standard E), it will drop you down half steps all the way to the octave. On that note, the Octave drop is where this pedal brings the most versatility.

I have used my Octave pedals, in the past, to achieve a low tone simulating a Bass line on the looper to play over. The Drop, gets my guitar extremely accurately down to Bass level sounds and is the most effective I have ever tried.

For regular playing, it is fun to play with the tuning steps, getting tones you would not normally, or could not, get from physically down tuning. The Drop gets you down below where your stings would be slack, otherwise, without buzzing or flabbing out. The Momentary switch is the cats pajamas. It lets you set the Drop to how ever low you want to jump, and with a tap of the foot, go from standard tuning, to the basement. It won't get you the "Dive" effect. Your would have to go up ($$) to the Whammy models to get that effect. Contemplated that, but pricing and actual desired needs didn't support the extra expense for me. I would not mind trying one of those out, regardless, but I think the Drop has just what I wanted.

All in all, this pedal helps you get more versatility and fun in your playing. Highly recomend this one!

Great fun pedal

By Ethan from Maryland

Really fun pedal to just play around with when using the momentary mode but also beats having to bring multiple guitars to a gig or tune in the middle of a set . When playing through a mix it's virtually undetectable that it's from a pedal and not actually tuned down. Its size is perfect and fits well on pedal boards, simple and easy to use, perfect purchase if you have one song in a set that's it a different tuning. Bonus points just because it looks cool as well.

At the beginning I was kind of skeptical regarding the functionality of the product because all reviewers in You tube kept saying it has a delay between the actual picked note and the one produced in the amp but, to me is just immediately. By Cliff from Sonora, CA

This pedal allows me to ditch 2 guitars on stage AND undeck my HSS Strat's, which i had to deck to reduce tuning time. I missed my whammy's and now have them back! I don't write reviews but felt compelled to do so due to the incredibly fast delivery of this Digitech Drop Pedal and how well it was packaged. The new warehouse facility in Arizona is a great addition to Sweetwater and enables much faster shipping times to the west coast regions (Cali) and is much appreciated. I also want to mention that the in-house full service and tech department of Sweetwater is second to none, including the product manufacture tech departments in my opinion. Iv enlisted them several times to assist in software installations and hardware questions and they fixed me right up no problem, they really know their stuff. In closing I want to thank my sales engineer Brad Jahn, and his team for all they do for me and helping to make Sweetwater my go to source for my music needs.

Love/Hate relationship w the drop

By Tyler A. from SAN MARCOS, CA

It's the best at what it does BUT take extreme caution to never plug in the wrong power cable. It's a user error trap that nukes your pedal with a visible spark. Yes, I plugged in the wrong power cable that happened to be exactly the same size as the correct power cable - technically my fault. It still sucks to drop another $ bucks. BTW none of the other pitch shift/drop pedals do the drop as well as The Drop. So I'm mad at it but buying it again. If there ever was a case for a unique proprietary power plug shape - it's this pedal. Plz be careful with your power supply on this pedal.

As a bass player, I have a favorite bass for playing most gigs, with keeping an extra as a spare just in case it is needed. Because we do many songs in alternate tunings, I found that this pedal is a workhorse for the bass. It does exactly what it says and with perfect results. No latency and no impact to tone. Clean highs and mids, and superior bottom end for those really low gut-felt notes that hit hard with the kick by your side. Would recommend this pedal to anyone that needs to drop down to alternate tunings.

Does what it is supposed to do. Well!

By Sweetwater Customer

It's simple. It drops your pitch without having to retune anything. The tracking is spot on to my ears and there's no gain change at all. Just play an E and it comes out...D#...or D....or C#... you get the idea. We play a variety of tunes across all genres and it helps to put the song in the right range for the vocalists without a position change on the guitar.

Newish guitar player buys a toy: Loves it!

By Erik from Illinois

As someone who has finally commited to playing guitar recently after having had it live in my closes too many years, I am slowly starting to acquire more gear.
One of the things I do to keep practicing is that I actually play guitar and sing on Twitch. I have been doing song reviews, and it takes a good deal of time to constantly change tunings a dozen times a night.
I bought this, and it is perfect for what I do. Much less time spend tuning by just changing the pitch with the turn of a dial.
My only complaint is that there is no on/off switch. I'd like to not have to unplug the power from the thing.

Great pedal

By Dave from Akron, Ohio
Music Background: Classic Rock, Blues and some Country

True story! I play in a couple of bands. One is getting into doing songs that we need to tune down and the other plays all songs tuned a half step down. So, I was eager to try this pedal out and not have to change guitars. I have 2 guitars that are in very similar cases. I was in a rush and didn't realize until I got to the gig that I had grabbed the wrong guitar. I know this sounds made up, but believe me it is not. The guitar I grabbed does not like to be tuned down even a half step. So now I was in a position where I was going to be using this pedal "on" all night. I have to say it worked great. No one in the band knew I was using a pedal to tune down and when I told them, they were very impressed. Also, it was nice to have the action on my guitars not be affected by tuning down. Hats off to Zack Davidson for such quick shipping. These pedals were on back order and when they came in he shot one out to me. He has helped me out on numerous occasions and I couldn't be happier with the service from Sweetwater. If you are looking to save the action on your guitar and still get that drop tuning you want, this is the pedal.

What I Needed

By Gary from Tyler, Tx
Music Background: Live & Studio

It was exactly what I needed. I am using a bass & tried to tune down & had to completely reset it due to the difference tan neck tension. I see lots of utility in using this live. I can see some purists saying it alters their sound, but I don't really hear a measurable difference especially within a couple of steps. My use it primarily dropping only to E flat. If that's what you are after, I don't think you will regret the purchase.

Digitech Drop

By Sweetwater Customer from PA

This is just what I was hoping it would be! There are many occasions in musical theatre when a song is too high for the singer. Thankfully, this means usually only between one and three half steps down. The Drop handles this effortlessly. Any lower than that, it gets a bit confused and a bit muddy. The octave settings are wonderful as well!

Essential pedal.....but

By David E. from Portland, OR

I've had this pedal for a few years and I love it. I think it's an essential pedal. But because of covid I haven't had it hooked up to a pedal board...just in front of a practice amp. I finally hooked it up to a pedal board and had MAJOR nose issues. Long story short, after a ton of plugging and unplugging (understatement) I discovered that you really need a separate power supply for this. When I ran this as part of a 1-Spot multi plug the noise was ghastly. When I used a separate 1-spot for the Drop, it fixed the issue. Just wanted to share.

Great pedal

My guitarist has had this pedal for a while and would have to watch me (the bass player) tune down for songs we drop tunings in while he just sat there! Now, a simple stomp and we're good to go.

As a bass player, I've had no problems with tone or pitch and the pedal drops down anywhere up to an octave without any issues. Sounds great.

For Rocksmith

By Mike B.
Music Background: Hobbyist, played bass and guitar for 25 years

I got this so I didn't have to change tunings in Rocksmith 2014. Like other reviews I gave this a chance and was pleasantly surprised. I have my guitar going into this pedal then into my Focusrite 4i4 into Rocksmith 2014. This allows me to play everything from -1 to -1 Octave without changing guitars.

A couple things to note
It works better with guitar than it does with bass. I've played it with both bass and guitar and it seems to handle the guitar better. With the bass its seems to lose tracking and the pitch starts to wobble the lower you go.

Make sure this is first in line as it expects to see a clean guitar/bass signal. I have tried this with a compressor before and after with no issues but I wouldn't put any modulation or overdrive before this.

For what I need it to do, it works as advertised. The tracking of notes is spot on and I don't perceive any additional latency. The only complaint is that when using with my 4 string bass (standard tuning) I can go down to -5 whole steps before I start noticing fluttering or chorusing affect on the notes. Anything lower and I have no choice but to switch to my 5 string.

It works with no noticiable latency, a full step down.

By Rick from SC
Music Background: Lifelong Strings & more

It works with no noticeable latency, a full step down. If you drop further than that , and play really fast, some harmonic reverberations are noticeable. But for a half step or full step down, sure beats dragging a dedicated (and locked in) guitar to practice. For performances, I may still choose to drag that second guitar tuned down.

Seems to work

By JerBear from Michigan
Music Background: 50 years of live stage music

I got asked to review this DROP before I got a chance to use it live on stage. It seems to work real good at practice and we have added a whole set of music, played out of the key of E, on the guitar, that we had difficulty singing to. This DROP gave us a full fret lower so now our singer can now hit the high notes. It was simpler to use than we expected. As long as the music is louder than your guitar (which is tuned normal) there is no issues. If you play acoustic instruments with low volume and PA settings you might have an issue with hearing the guitar tuned lower than the electronics. We feel confident enough with one practice with this unit to use it live on stage.

Always on the board

By Bryan from Saint Louis
Music Background: Guitar, Drums & Bass

Great pedal as a whole. Sturdy and easy to use. I personally go through pedals like crazy and this one is a keeper, no doubt! Settings 1,2,3 and octave+dry are amazing. Semitones 4-7 you can tell it starts sounding a little digital but has to potential to create other worldly sounds. Also includes 9V adapter. Thanks DigiTech & Sweetwater! (FYI you can hear your guitar at lower volumes while drop tuned. Takes getting used to it you're not at a loud volume or using headphones.)

Drop D Effects Pedal

By Vic from Deland, FL
Music Background: Professional musician

This pedal does exactly what it says. There are 3 guitarists in our band and we all have one. They work great as our lead singer likes singing down half a step. Its a lot easier for us as we all don't have to switch guitars all night. As a added bonus, the built in octaver sounds great as well. One less pedal taking up space. At this time, our bass player is thinking about getting one too!

It does exactly what I need it to do

By Markus C. from Duluth, MN

I have played off and on for 30 years, mostly off, life got in the way. I have owned several guitars over those years and I will say, I HATE messing around with tuning any guitar to a lower tuning or alternate tuning. This pedal does the detuning for me and I REALLY like that. There is no lag or anything like that, does it in real time and it's really easy to use. I would say my only complaint is, not so much a COMPLAINT, I don't play at very high volumes so it's really bizarre that the sound of the stings and the sound of the lowered tunings thru the amp is well…odd. It's fine though as I hate tuning down guitars, the oddity of the different pitch between them is negligible in the grand scheme of things.

Excellent pedal with lots of uses.

By Augie M. from MARYVILLE, TN
Music Background: gigging musician

I've had mine now for the better part of a year, countless rehearsals and a growing list of gigs. It does everything all the previous reviews have already documented. But I'll add something not yet mentioned... mine was producing very noticeably weird two tone sounds when I had it plugged into the power supply box on my pedalboard, I've heard they draw a lot of power so I instead routed with a Trutone 1 Spot AC adapter to the AC power strip also affixed to my board (see photo) and that seems to have resolved the problem. Hope this helps anyone having that same issue. I like this pedal a lot... it is a very useful tool to have, from practicing and learning songs, to rehearsals and gigs too.

Bass Pedal??

By Chris T. from PENSACOLA, FL

I'm a bass player in a worship band. Our worship leader doesn't have the high voice of those who write the songs. We are always dropping 1 or 2 semitones. Occasionally, I come across a song where I really need an E-flat or D, but my 4-string just won't work with a Hip-shot, etc. I only have the one bass, so tuning down for one song isn't an option. This thing is amazing!
Since I can change the foot switch from latching to momentary, I set the semitone selection as I need, & step & hold for as long as I need. The tone is good. Response time is great. There are other ways I'll use this in the future, I'm sure, but for now it helps me keep the original voicing of the songs.

Must have for playing live.

By Jason G. from FL

The Digi Drop pedal is my latest addition and I am not disappointed. It tracks remarkably well for bass. Way better than I thought it would. You can definitely hear it being slightly "digital" sounding (my 4.5 stars). If you are more of a tone purist you may be bothered by that. That being said, when you realize you are able to turn it on or off so easily, instead of tuning up or down or switching basses, then you get over that and take it for what it is which is actually quite good, especially live!

Excellent pitch shifter

By Robert L. from ALTOONA, PA

I play and cover multiple styles of music for multiple bands. It's difficult having to be ready in several different tunings when you're learning songs. This pedal is the single best way to have multiple tunings at your fingertips (or foot). I can leave a guitar in standard and learn everything down from it in 1/2 step increments. Excellent pedal.

DOES kills tone, but works great

By Sweetwater Customer from MT

It DOES kill tone, you get a nasty metallic harsh sound and your upper mids disappear. BUT, it does its job VERY well. Y
It's a great pedal and i STILL use it, but you have to EQ out the harshness. Once you do that you're okay. But, don't let the fanboys fool you, it DOES affect your tone.

Great for those who shift tuning alot!

By Matthew M. from Coal City, IL

I bought this because it allows my two guitars to be like ten! I initially used the pedal to play the Rocksmith PS4 game, ( It is what got me back into music after being away since college). Using The Drop allowed me to play almost all the songs with a tap of the foot switch and a twist of a knob. Much easier than tuning constantly. Not to mention the instability that comes with large changes in tension on the neck of the guitars. After playing and getting used to it, I trusted it enough to start using it live while playing at my church for praise and worship. it has made It tracks pretty well, not perfect but well enough that most people won't notice.
There are some weird things, like when you play at lower volumes, you can hear the difference between your guitar and the sound generated. plus the on/off latching dip switch seems to make little sense. Last, using the pedal with a bass can get a little sketchy after a fourth down or so. Other than those few gripes, this pedal does was advertised and performs well.

Thanks for the drop Digitech.

Good with some caveats

By Sweetwater Customer from Chicago
Music Background: Playing 25+ years

I use this for songs tuned half step down in a touring cover band. I was tired of bringing another guitar tuned a half step down and switching based on our setlist. Additionally, we have quick transitions so oftentimes there wasn't time to allow a switch.

After using for a couple months here is what you should know:

- Sounds best on real amps, not modeled amp systems

- There is a very small amount of latency. When wired this does not present a problem, when using this pedal in conjunction with a wireless system the latency is compounded. This will take a bit of getting used to.

- When used on a wireless system along with a modeled amp there can be a good amount of tone coloration so be mindful of this.

That being said, this pedal is still easier than switching to another guitar. The audience, and more importantly our booking agents, are not aware of any of the points I mentioned and there isn't a product that allows a temporary detune as efficiently as this pedal.

Good luck out there!

Be careful when using with a bass

By Eric from elkton, MD

As with other reviewers and online forum talk, I also experienced what I can only describe as sound degradation with my bass. It works perfect if you're running 440 standard tuning but when you drop to d and attempt to use this pedal, the signal almost sounds inconsistent. You get this whirring effect almost like the pitch seems to fade in and out as well as tone loss. Attempted to contact DigiTech about this issue and was given no conclusive response as to why this happens. Very hard to notice when playing live and you are in the mix, but when playing separate or practicing this becomes very noticeable.

This is Music Magic

By Super C. from Waveland, MS
Music Background: Wannabe Guitar player for 40 years or so.

I had high hopes for the Drop, but it turned out to be even better than I was expecting. This thing works perfectly. Time for Man in the Box? Just choose the very first setting, it's like magic your guitar sounds exactly like it's tuned down 1/2 step. It will even show that if you put a tuner after the drop pedal.

I still can't believe how well it works. If you turn the knob to the last setting, it harmonizes each note one octave below. Play some single note stuff and it sounds like Flea is matching you note for note. I absolutely love this thing. It does exactly what they say it does. I'm glad I bought it.

By Robert J. from Franklin, OH

The pedal works as described. I am using it with a Positive Grid Spark 40 and it does have some harmonic stuff going on when dropping past 1.5 semitones- 2 semitones with all the effects on. When using it with clean Chanel on my Peavey VIP 3 100w, it works better.

It is wonderful to be in E standard and play D standard or C standard. What a wonderful pedal.

Pedal Works As Expected

By Geoff M. from San Rafael, CA
Music Background: Non-serious musician/bedroom player/hack

This pedal works great - does exactly what I was hoping it would do (allows me to keep my guitar in E standard but drop to lower tunings w/out needing to change string gauge, adjust set-up, etc). A couple things to note (not complaints - just things I've noticed to keep in mind). If you play at a low volume, you may notice a clash between the natural sound of the strings and down-tuned sound that is coming from your amp. I play almost entirely through headphones, so this really ins't a problem for me, but if you tend to play through an amp and don't have it turned up very loud you may notice this. The other thing is that I play through a Pod Go, so I had to move this pedal to the beginning of the signal chain otherwise it sounded weird. Anyway, I'm enjoying the pedal and glad I bought it. Thanks to Sweetwater for answering my questions before I purchased.

Great pedal

By charles d. from Georgia

This pedal has been out for a few years but for some reason, I just found out about it. After reading reviews and seeing several youtube video reviews, I pulled the trigger and purchased one a couple of weeks ago. I'm glad I did. I've always wanted to explore down tuning but didn't want to keep retuning my guitars. This pedal does it for you. The build quality is wonderful. All metal case. Feels very sturdy. THe sound quality is nothing short of amazing. Sounds just like a down tuned guitar. I am so glad I found and purchased this pedal. Be sure to place it first in your signal chain and you'll be chugging along. All in all, a great addition to my other gear. Love it.

Drop Tune Bliss

By David from Colorado

The DigiTech Drop Pedal has one job and it does it fantastically. I absolutely LOVE being able to go from E Standard to D Standard a lower at the turn of a knob. Yes, that easy!!! The tone remains the same. Just might have to adjust the EQ if you drop really low or drop tune with 7 or 8 string guitars.

The only thing to be aware of is making sure your volume can be heard over the sound of your guitar strings...otherwise it'll throw you off.

This pedal has been such a joy and great tool. It's perfect for anyone who wants to use their favorite guitar or guitars and experiment with tunings without changing the setup each time. Can't recommend this highly enough. Thanks to Sweetwater for the fast shipping and great service as always!

On Bass

By Sweetwater Customer

I use this pedal with my bass guitar. It works like a charm when you use it a half step or a whole step down. But on bass when you go beyond that, you can definitely hear the latency and lack of tone. Best pedal I own!!

By Dan from Gresham, OR
Music Background: Bedroom rocker

I saw this pedal on an August Burns Red rig review video and I figured if it is good enough for them to use for live shows then it was worth checking out.
I was not disappointed! I love to play songs that are 1/2 step down and others that are a full step down and all I have to do to change tuning is turn the knob!!
I love thins thing!!
Yes, the lower you go the more noticeably it changes tone, but that can be compensated for a bit on your amp. All said, the time saved in changing tuning or the cost of having a bunch of extra guitars makes this pedal well worth the money!!

Just what I needed to learn tunes for my Band

By Bob H. from Eastford, CT
Music Background: Bassplayer, sound engineer

Works as expected. Is it perfect tracking? No. Is it noticeable using it with 2 guitar players with 1/2 stacks? Not at all!! My band tunes 1/2 step down and many of the songs we play are in 440, so when i learn them i have to have a 2nd bass handy tuned down. It sucks constantly swapping basses to learn a song. This little pedal lets me keep my basses in 440 and change tuning on the fly. I also added a tuner right after it so i could see just how accurate this pedal detunes. It works fine.

Outstanding Pedal

By Carl from California
Music Background: Bassist

I purchased this pedal for Rocksmith so I don't have to constantly tune all the time, save some wear and tear on my strings since bass sets aren't cheap, and it does everything I need it to do. In just a couple seconds I can pitch shift from standard to D or even lower. The signal does get a bit muddled on bass when shifting super low on my four string bass but definitely not nearly as bad when I use the five. When paired with my Hipshot bass extender I can shift to D drop C in seconds and back to standard in the same amount of time. Great pedal if you don't own multiple instruments that you can keep in different tunings, or don't want to switch between songs when playing live, at home, or in the studio.

Get it!

By dr. u. from los angeles
Music Background: professional

I've had one since 2014. I've played it on national tours, recorded with it. This thing is STURDY, NEVER glitched and it does the job REALLY WELL. If your ears are well developed and experienced, then yes, you can hear a bit of processing introducing a very slight buffer delay. However, I really doubt that this will be a problem live. I have done fast riffs with it and never felt uncomfortable. In the studio, I use guitars with proper tuning, not the pedal. I did use the Drop with the octave down along with the dry signal (the last mode) before overdrive to record, and it just rips. Buy it.

This pedal is Science Fiction come true

By Caith
Music Background: Rock, folk, world, metal

I bought this pedal based on Sweetwater's video demo, the overwhelmingly positive reviews, and DigiTech's reputation, but the questions still burning when I opened the box were (1) will it track accurately and with no latency, even when shredding, and (2) will it affect my tone? The answer to (1), to my delight and amazement, is YES. I spot-checked playing fast, slow, high, low, clean and dirty using a Hiwatt Lead 30 tube amp and my solid state Roland Cube 80GX with amp modeling. Any latency is, to my ears, imperceptible. The answer to (2) is, my ears notice a very, VERY tiny drop in the highest frequencies, so minimal that I spot tested again just to make sure I wasn't imagining it. Absolutely nothing that a quick EQ tweak either live or in the studio wouldn't resolve if you even felt the need. The utility of this pedal can't be understated. The ability to instantly drop-tune the whole guitar by incremental half steps while staying in standard tuning is SUCH a gift and removes the hassle of retuning (especially for those of us with locking trems) or needing multiple guitars in different tunings. One last note: when using this pedal you need to either play loud enough to mask the acoustic sound of your strings or else play through headphones, otherwise you might be distracted by hearing the original pitch acoustically from your strings along with the detuned signal from your amp.

Simply Brilliant

There really isn't much I can add which hasn't already been posted in other positive reviews here. This pedal is a "must have" for every guitar player (bass players too). The tone stays true, latency (delay) is imperceptible, and there's no hum or artifact (noise) as some have reported. This pedal simply does what it says it does and, although it's a bit on the pricey side) it is well worth it.

Far from disappointing!

By Jake T. from Lewisberry, PA
Music Background: 15 years experience- playing mostly Alt rock, metal and acoustic

This is an absolute monster of a pedal. I was skeptical buying this for almost a year because I feared it wouldn"t be as great as I"ve heard. I decided to finally pull the trigger and it"s by far my favorite pedal I"ve ever owned. To start off, I suffer from ZERO latency no matter which setting I"m using. There"s no major tome differences when you"re in the really low settings, so every setting on this pedal is 100% useable. I"m using this for guitar 99% of the time- but I decided to try it on my bass as well. To those saying it doesn"t work with bass, that"s a huge myth. It tracks my 4 and 5 strings perfectly. It also tracked my Taylor GS Mini E when I plugged it into my amp. I regret not buying when I first discovered it. I"m honestly pondering to sell my baritone and just using my standard scaled guitars.

By Terry M. from Jersey City

I'm extremely impressed with the Digitech Drop! I had previously picked up the Pitch Shifter from Electro Harmonix, but it never sounded natural, and I noticed a digital warble I could never get past. I was hearing good things about the Drop so I decided to give it a try. It's really been a game changer. It not only does a great job at allowing me to play with lower tunings, but I also love the Octave Down + Dry setting, which has added a great sonic option to my playing. Tracking is not an issue, and playing in lower tunings sounds and feels natural. It's a great alternative to having to dedicate a guitar to lower tuning options. It's been a great addition to my pedalboard!!

Seriously?

By Katpro from Washington
Music Background: 30 year pro touring guitarist/live and studio engineer

The reviewers who rated this thing low must be noobs! First off, it is an electronic piece of gear that is "faking" the pitch of your guitar,...it's NEVER going to be perfect! Keep your hopes in perspective! Second, there is no noticeable latency, and I'm not sure any of you even really understand what that word means. Third, this thing 100% DOES WORK WITH BASS guitar!! Do not hesitate to use this with a bass. In fact, it is actually the only one I have found that does work with bass! The bassist in my band uses it live every weekend, and it has never failed to work flawlessly. I bought mine a couple years ago, and it has been in use ever since, and it hasn't let me down once. The switch is metal, not plastic, and anyone who breaks a metal stomp box switch after just a couple uses, doesn't know how to use a pedal, and seriously needs to focus on their playing, and dial back the theatrics!

Literally the only draw back to this pedal, and any drop tune type of pedal, is that if you try to go past a half step drop, its pointless, and it becomes unintelligible,...you know, like all modern rock music out there now! LOL

If you have songs on your list that are recorded a half step down, which a ton of artist do, this pedal is an absolute life saver! And no, I don't work for Digitech...in fact, I think a lot of their stuff is total crap, but good gear is good gear, and I hate seeing people who have no clue what they are talking about, giving bad advice.

Solid piece of gear for real musicians who know what they are doing!

Great pedal but read on.

By Robert P. from North Haven, CT

This pedal works real goodt if you follow a few important steps.
First, I only use it to drop the tuning a max of 1 1/2 steps so I won't comment on dropping down 4 or 5 steps.
I like use it for songs that are in A but the singer has to sing it in Ab. That makes playing a lead that has a lot of open strings in it a real pain. Now it's simple, just use the Drop pedal and play it in A. Some songs I use it to drop down a full step or 1 1/2 steps and again it works the way it should.

Noise. The pedal did emit a high pitch noise at first but that was cured by using a dedicated wall wart. It doesn't like to be daisy chained with other pedals when it comes to power. A slight inconvenience for me.

One thing I did notice was if you play with the amp at a very low volume you will be hearing the dropped down notes coming from the amp combined with the sound coming from the guitar and that will sound strange. With the amp turned up to normal playing volume you won't hear the notes coming from the guitar and it will sound fine. That's why some who try to use this for acoustic guitars don't like the way it sounds. You will almost always hear the normal sound coming from the guitar along with the dropped sound from the amp.

It's a great pedal for what I use it for. I wouldn't expect a pedal for this price to drop the tuning down 4 or 5 steps without some compromise. Buy one, you won't be disappointed. Also the people at Sweetwater are fantastic to deal with and they ship quickly.

drop pedal

By Steve from TN

This pedal is insane! I wasn't sure if id like it due to different vibrations in the strings vs the sound. Let me tell you that"s a made up concern! This pedal is phenomenal! Im looking to buy a second one incase it takes an unforseen turn, but i doubt it!

Extremely Unreliable

By Joe from Pennsylvania

When this pedal is actually working I would give it 5 stars, the problem is that it always breaks. The foot switch is made of cheap plastic.

I bought my first drop pedal and it broke after 2 or 3 gigs. I had it replaced and the replacement pedal broke mid show, which was my second time using it. Terrible product, would not recommend to anyone.

Awesome, but know this...

By Andy K. from Atlanta
Music Background: Gigging Musician

The key to getting the most out of this pedal is battery power and not power from an AC converter. This eliminates all noise and makes this pedal perfect. With an AC converter it was noisy. There is no battery option built in. I believe this is because it"s a power hog. I use an Energizer external battery that is 8000 maH and has a 9 volt option.

A must-have pedal!

By Sweetwater Customer

This thing is fun, and very useful. I play metal, and I keep my guitar in E standard and use this mostly to go 1/2 step and full step down, along with drop C# and drop C. Sounds great! I have played around with it a little going down to B standard, drop A, A# standard, and it still sounds OK. Not perfect, but at those tunings I probably need to adjust the amp EQ some.

One thing to consider is if you want to use this for quiet practice, you should probably use headphones. If you play with your amp's volume so low where you can hear the strings ring out acoustically, it will sound bad mixed with the down tuned signal coming from your amp.

Love this thing. Should have bought one a long time ago.

Disappointed

By Harold from Cincinnati, OH.
Music Background: Professional musician

Was very hopeful this product would solve the need for lugging around a second guitar tuned down a half/whole step. Very well made, did exactly as advertised. I realized within the first few notes that the latency rendered this product useless in real time performance. Disappointed. Would buy an updated version if the latency issue was resolved.

Works, but isn't as good at the real deal

By Sweetwater Customer

This pedal sounds better than I thought it would. I tested the 1/2 step by playing a power chord one fret and then engaging the pedal and moving a fret. They do sound the same. There is a drop in volume when you engage it and there is just a hint of oddness/electronic sounds on the high strings if you are playing full chords.

I think this is very useable and I doubt a crowd would ever know the difference. If you are a tone purest, this isn't for you. There is a clear difference between a guitar tuned down and this if you play them side by side. If you hate tuning your guitar down or having extra guitars for gigs, I think this does a great job!

Works for Bass Players too!

By Michael N. from Madison, NC
Music Background: Bass player, sound tech, music nerd

Broke down and bought one of these with a recent guitar purchase but have been eyeballing one for a while after playing with a buddy's setup. As an IT guy by day and Bass Player by night I have found few effects pedals that work well on bass that don't distort the low end or have some weird effect due to the lower frequencies. After playing with this on several 4-string basses I can say this is a dream. As a Motown fan a lot of the tunings are a half step down. Now I don't have to keep one bass on the stand with a different tuning, just 'click' and we're ready to jam. The octave+dry is a really cool sound too and I've been playing with it some on different tracks. One side note, with lower notes (like the B on a 5-string) it can sound a little strange with the octave and the lower steps but overall for someone who mainly uses a 4-string and tunes down at most 2 steps, this thing has been such a time saver. As far as guitar sound, having a guitar with an evertune bridge, this pedal is a must! A real game changer, less time tuning and more time rocking the house!

Fantastic for metal, BUT..

By Nate from Minnesota
Music Background: Metal, progressive, jazz, blues.

If your looking to pick up this pedal for primarily high gain, you"ll be incredibly happy. There"s ZERO latency, doesn"t color your tone, and it"s just soooo good. BUT.. if your using this for any cleaner tones with or without reverbs, chorus and that stuff, it"s just not there.. it makes this horrible modulated "warble" spins and I just can get past it. Unfortunately I"ll be selling mine for this reason. Hardcore/metal/whatever, it"s absolutely fantastic, but anything else involving big chords or intricate picking it just doesn"t do the job. Guess I"m getting a baritone!

digitech drop.

By Tom from Cleveland
Music Background: Cover band guitarist (scum)

Does exactly what it's supposed to do. Does it very well with no perceivable latency. I use it mostly for semitone pitch drop. It's a very versatile pedal that also allows me to get deeper drop tunings ala Queens of the Stone Age without a complete setup on a different guitar. The thing is great and is great tool to have. If you're a giving guitarist or bassist, I can't recommend this pedal enough.

DOES NOT WORK FOR BASS

By Jon S. from Henderson, NV

This pedal does not work for bass and don't let anybody tell you anything different. I work with 2 guitar players at a show in Las Vegas that use and it sounds fine with a guitar. I guess bass frequencies are just too low for this thing to reproduce.

Digitech Drop

By Jason W. from Lakewood, CA
Music Background: Guitarist turned bassist

Fun pedal on my board. I'm using this for bass, mainly to drop a half of whole step for songs that need that without actually drop tuning my bass. I like exact action close to the frets and when the strings go limp, the action suffers. It was this or buy more guitars, so I thought I'd give the sub $200 option a try. I also wasn't sure if it would track well for the lower frequencies but I was assured by Digitech that it would. I've only had it for about a week but as far as I can tell it does track fine. I like the octave setting and momentary/latch switching and I can see using this in a couple songs to fill out the sonic space. I wish it could also go in the other direction. I would like to add an octave up and be able to tune up at least a couple half step increments for some songs. All in all I think I'll keep this on my board but time will tell if I continue to find it useful or my ear tells me something is off. Patrick Schaefer at Sweetwater has been great at helping me pick my gear.

Best of its type

By Sweetwater Customer

Although this sounds better than the two other popular Drop type, pedals, which I've also owned, it still sounds digital and does not seem to like my other pedals. It does track fairly well though. Octave setting sounds kind of like an electronic keyboard. I really only use it for Eb, but much prefer a tuned down guitar.

Drop everything and add this....

By Chris S. from Central IL.

I play in a cover band and when you play everything from Korn to Poison there is alot of different tunings you have to use. This has become one of my most prized pedals. My Tascam bass trainer finally played it's last song. This little guy helps me practice in the actual song key as well. I can see its use for a guitar player or 4 string bassist but not much use for it on my 5 string. There is a bit of lag time at a certain point past the low C.

The Pedal You Didn't Know You Needed

By Caleb G. from TX
Music Background: Recreational Player

I had never heard of this pedal, but I saw a demo on sale one day and the concept blew me away. I absolutely love going down to C Standard to play some Stoner Rock or some real heavy metal, but tuning to that is a total pain, that is, until I bought the DigiTech Drop.

The conversion is perfect, it's not off at all. Going down in half steps is really a great feature, just a few clicks and I'm ready to play some Black Sabbath or Electric Wizard just fine. The best part? No absurdly floppy strings. I use this pedal with the PC game Rocksmith as well and that makes it all the easier.

Seriously, this pedal is essential if you find yourself going down even a half step every once in a while.

Must Have!!

By Jason O. from Ohio
Music Background: Bassist for life

Im a Bass pkayer and my guitarist suggested this pedal after i kept complaining about all the different tunings on our set list. He recently bought one and showed me how easy it made a half step and whole step tuning changes. It goes down lower than that too! I ordered one immediately. As soon as i got it i played 4 songs in a row all in drop tuning. I played Sober in drop D, Absolute Zero in dropC#, Face To The Floor in Drop C, and then Step Up in Drop B. All with a click of the dial between songs. This is a must have pedal for any bass player or guitarist that plays songs from a pool of songs of all tunings. Totally happy how its made practicing more constructive. Also looking forward to my up coming shows and only bringing two bass guitars. My 5 string in standard tuning and my 4 string in drop D tuning. My only conplaint is the dact that its a bit pricey, but it does come with an AC adapter. No regrets on this purchase!!

Does The Job

By Mark B. from Longview, TX

Ever since I got this pedal, I have all but put away my 5-string! No need to drop D tune anymore. However, anything past three or four half steps and the sound starts to distort. I would also have liked to have a battery option but this comes with AC only, requiring me to have power up front (the only pedal in my arsenal that requires AC power.) Overall, though, does exactly what I want it to do.

Worth it

By Lee from Germany

I first heard one of these being used at a concert, and I had no idea until after, when I snuck a photo of the guitarist's pedal-board. That's the idea, is that you can't tell that it's in the line and that the actual tuning isn't changed. I just play for a hobby, and I like to play music from a wide variety of bands and styles. Constantly re-tuning, sometimes to extremes (C standard to E) can cause a lot of stress on strings. It also sucks a lot of the energy out of a fun practice session. I don't think I could go without it now.

By Mike M. from Chicago
Music Background: Sound Engineer, Guitarist

Great pedal that doesn't mess TOO MUCH with my tone. Much better than carrying a truckload of guitars. I use it to drop to 1/2 and 2 steps down, works great. It does have some latency, which is noticeable right away. It seems all pitch pedals do this, and it's not too much of a problem--unless you are all by yourself on a big stage trying to keep it steady...in which case it takes some getting used to.

Does a really nice job at polyphonic pitch shifting. Also a really good octaver. Where it falls down is the really noisy switch, which makes using it in momentary mode a non-option unless I am playing in a loud band.

DIGITECH DROP PEDAL

By ANDY E.

THIS IS THE ****! WE DO A LOT OF TUNING CHANGES AND THE EFFECT IN MY POD HD500 ALWAYS GIVES ME WIERD OVERTONES WHEN TRYING TO PLAY CHORDS. WITH THIS PEDAL EVERY TUNING SOUNDS SUPER CLEAN. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE I NOTICE IS THE TONE GETS SLIGHTLY DEEPER THE FURTHER FROM STANDARD YOU GO, BUT IT SEEMS LIKE THIS OCCURS EVEN WHEN RETUNING THE GUITAR - NOTHING A LITTLE TONE TWEEK CAN'T FIX IF IT BOTHERS YOU THAT MUCH BUT I USE IT AS IT CAME OUT OF THE BOX.

Very impressive.

By Brandon B. from Texas
Music Background: Psyche rock, Alternative rock, and Extreme Metal.

This thing is a godsend. It has severely lessened my constant craving to acquire more guitars to accommodate all the tunings I like to play in. I haven't noticed any latency(until going lower than C standard) as long as it is first in my pedal chain and it keeps the integrity of your amp and guitars tone very well. There is a very slight shift in tone, but it's not a bad one. I am rating this 4.5, because I found the quality to decline a decent bit once you drop below C standard. The tone begins to shift more and there is a very small bit of noticable latency when playing fast passages. This is not an issue for me, though, as I have two wonderful MIJ Ibanez 7 strings to cover my B tuning needs. And if you play slower, sludgy stoner style stuff, you probably won't even notice the latency. I found the Full octave setting to be fun and you can blend the octave with you actual guitar signal and it's a full on harmony. All in all, this has it's flaws, but noone else has come close to this quality for what it does. Also, it's very sturdily built.

Leave Guitar/Bass in Standard Tune!

By John from NY

This pedal is what I hoped it would be...and more. I play in a rock band with all songs in both Standard and E-flat tunings. Thanks to the Drop I can now leave all of my guitars in Standard tuning. When an E-flat tune comes up in the setlist, all I need to do is step on the drop. That simple. No more picking up the other guitar and costing valuable time during a show or practice. The tone is very clear and convincing. The Drop is staying on my board. Now I just need my bassist to get one. GET IT!

Good Solid Pedal

By Rockwell-77
Music Background: Metal Guitarist

I bought this pedal to end the annoying chore of tuning down my guitars
to play songs in C, C#, D and Eb. Took a few minutes to find the right
spot in my pedal chain but works just as it should. I'm a metal guitarist so
I use a high gain amp and distortion. At lower tunings it might affect tone
slightly but barely discernible using it in this application. As far as latency
goes I haven't had a problem but I don't play really fast speed or thrash
metal especially in the lower tunings. I would recommend it to anyone sick
of changing their tuning frequently.

THE DROP

By KEVIN A. from MICHIGAN
Music Background: Metal - Jamming and gigging for 27 years

One guitar for the night vs having to take multiple guitars!!!
My band does a lot of tunings, now I can change my guitar to a lower setting without having to change guitars or retune.
The reason that I am not giving this a full 5 stars, is because, while it does track well and sound great to about two octaves down - any lower and it starts to sound "digital."
Still though, being able to drop 1/2 or even a full step and have it sound completely natural = AWESOME!!!!
I've tried other Pitch shifting pedals, including the Morpheus pedal and many others. They made my tune "altered" and digital….. even only at one octave lower.
This DROP pedal reserves your tune to two octaves/full steps lowers = that's amazing
IMO - this is a MUST HAVE PEDAL!!!!

I bought this devise so I would not have to bring three Guitars to every Gig ! About 4-5 of the songs are "Drop Tuned" throughout the night. And, IT WORKS ! If there is any "Latency" I dont notice it (Not any more than actually tuning an instrument down) and I dont notice any drop in volume either. This is defiantly a useful tool for any Musician playing a variety of cover songs, that require different "tunings" every night. A little on the "Pricey" side, but well worth the advantages.

Worth the Investment

By Steve V. from Phillipsburg, NJ
Music Background: 30 year Pro

I've owned so much gear throughout my career that I've had my hands on most of the important stuff. With that being said, I haven't been excited about a pedal in a long time, but I'm excited about this one. When I got it, I plugged it in right away and was inspired to play all night long, which I haven't done in a awhile either. The layout and controls are very easy to interpret, configure and manipulate in my home studio as well as a dark chaotic stage /gig environment. The logic behind it's design is perfect for it's function. It's smaller than it looks in the website description so it fits my pedal board with no issues at all. The power is standard 9v so it plugs in to my one spot cable with no issues at all.
The digital processing latency is hardly noticeable at all on distortion or clean settings and doesn't interfere with my timing while playing. The pedal input and outputs don't produce any unwanted hum or static or hiss. One thing of note that is noticeable is the coloration of the output signal. There is a very slight digital sounding waveform that accompanies the signal, and the high frequencies are rolled off a little, otherwise it's not enough of a bother to be annoyed or disappointed about.
Overall, this pedal will allow you to drop tune with the flick of a switch, and get right to the business of playing on demand in whatever key you wish. I'm happy.
My order was shipped quickly and on time as always from Sweetwater, and the customer service and attention was Excellent as always.

Nice Pedal

By Kelly S. from Beavercreek, OH
Music Background: Playing 30+ years

In my band we would have to change guitars a lot because some of what we played would be in standard, and some songs would be a half-step down. My guitarist (I play bass) bought this pedal to try and minimize guitar swaps. It worked great for him so I decided to try it. It has worked great and now changing from standard to half-step is fast (like a marsupial).
But seriously, for a bass I would not drop more than 2 steps. Otherwise the lower notes start sounding messy. My guitarist has gone further down with it still sounding OK. I have not noticed any latency either. Also, I have noticed that when the pedal is on, the sound is actually a little better. It seems to have a slight chorusing effect, making the guitars sound "fuller." I like the sound myself. Also, make sure the pedal is first in line. Otherwise some of your other effects may not sound like you want them to.

The Most AWESOME Pedal Out There!!!

By Kent H. from Castle Rock, Washington
Music Background: Pro Musician for 30+ years and Worship Leader at my church for 10 years.

I got to tell you that I have been putting up with my Morpheus Drop Tune POS pedal for a couple of years. The thing, I'll call it, kept resetting itself back to 440, when the band would be tuned a half step down. Imagine the fun onstage, looking at which guitarist's Morpheus just took a dump, just to have to turn it back on and reset it. Praise God for the Digitech Drop Pedal and my man Mark Magdich, (ext. 1265, for those of you looking for someone good, with tons of experience). He knew all about the Digitech, and so I had to try it out for myself. It sounded so much better with the dropped pitch than the Morpheus, it's also much easier to operate, without shorting out and resetting itself. A BIG BONUS in my book!!! I tried it out at our other guitar player's house with the Morpheus right next to it for a good comparison. I was impressed, he was impressed, our bass player was impressed at how good it sounded with his bass, and you guessed it, 2 more Digitech Drop Pedals came the next week.
Now, about the band. We are an 80's rock cover band. You know, the good rockin' music. So this pedal has to work, and sound good, with lots of distortion through our EVH amps. It passed with flying red and white colors. Ditch the Morpheus, get a Digitech!!! Thanks Mark for all your wisdom and knowledge and service through the years. Chuck needs to give you a raise!!! You deserve it.

Improvement Options

By Andy K. from Atlanta

So, I originally rated the pedal higher, but after further use feel like the rating needs to be a little lower. My main issue is the pedal is a little noisy. That would be ok if it had a true bypass, but it doesn't. So, you pick up a little noise even when the pedal is not engaged. So, when not in use I disconnect the power supply. One thing to watch out for is that if you disconnect power with the pedal engaged, you will not get a signal through your chain. You have to attach power and disengage and then unplug to get 100% bypass. Nice to know this as in the middle of a gig or jam session, you could be caught scratching your head as to why you aren't getting any sound out of your amp.

Overall, this is still a great addition an beats the heck out of switching guitars or changing tuning on the fly.

Great pedal for live shows.

By Nick from New Jersey

Great pedal. Perfect for band practice and shows. Lets me bring one guitar when I practice with my cover band. E flat? C? Just stomp it and your there. No change in sound, great reproduction, no loss in neck feel with slinky strings. It's simple and practical and does exactly what I need. Is a bit expensive, and isn't compatible with my Voodoo power supply. Even though it comes with it's own power supply, I like to just have everything plug into the Pedal Power 2.

Great for what it does. very practical.

DigiTech Drop

By Mike M. from Washington DC

I bought this pedal so I would not have to re-tune my guitar during performances. We worked out a very nice song arrangement in E and later the singer wanted to do it in C#. Tuning the (hollow body electric) guitar down was not a good option. The DigiTech Drop worked perfectly to allow me to play the original arrangement in E and the singer hears it in C#. I have recorded using this pedal and the sound is great. The tone is clean, no artifacts. I gave the pedal a 4.5 rating because, while playing, I can hear both the sound from the guitar and the dropped sound out of the speakers, which is a bit distracting. My solution was to turn up the monitor to drown out the guitar sounds. Over time it becomes less distracting.

Change of Heart

By Michael S. from quidproqua200416@yahoo.com
Music Background: Guitar Player/Home Studio Recordist

I panned this pedal in an earlier review saying that it wasn't for me, changed my mind with the following observations/opinion. I tend to be a positive thinker and while out in the studio about 3 or 4 days after I got this I thought why not use this pedal in a way I never had conceived. This pedal works best I think right after your compressor or first in your effects chain and I like it best with a little "dirt" added to the signal.
I don't think it works on chords at all, but adding single line overdub type tracks it is really nice, especially down in the "baritone" # 5 position. So basically before writing this pedal off completely, I have decided to use my imagination and have some fun with it. That is what making music is all about isn't it ? :)

this pedal just doesn't work for me, first purchase from Sweetwater I am unhappy with. I am sure it does what it was designed to do, but for me, just doesn't do what I was hoping.

Best Pedal of it's Kind

By Pete from Chicago
Music Background: Guitar Player for 40 years

So I needed a pedal to bridge the gap on some of the cover tunes my band does. I currently us 3 guitars - 1 standard - 1 1/2 step down - 1 drop D. Even with 3 guitars, I still have issues with some songs being either drop C or C tuning, etc. I was using a Morpheus pedal and I absolutely hated it. Way too much warble - especially with clean settings. So I saw that the Drop had some pretty good reviews and the demos sounded promising.

Nicely made - very compact.
Can go a down a full octave and even can serve as an octave pedal

How does it sound? Surprisingly good, especially if you are only going down 2 or 3 semitones. After that things get a bit digital - not horrible by any means. Just looses a bit of definition on the high end, but I never go down more than 2 semitones, so this works perfect for me. The nice thing about this pedal is that there is no warble sounds or digital noise as notes ring out. Very consistent and precise tracking - I was impressed. Clean tones sounded true with none of the dropout noise etc. that I experienced with the Morpheus. Very little latency! In fact, less than going through a DAW and is hardly noticable.

One thing to note - this pedal, like most polyphonic pedals, likes to be first in your chain. It wants to be hit with the full signal of your guitar although it might work fine after a buffer; I just haven't tried that though.

This is a great pedal for the gigging musician who doesn't want to carry an arsenal of guitars and plays occasional songs that require drop tunings. It's also great for learning new songs that would otherwise require you to retune. (a real pain when you have a Floyd Rose or similar).

It's hard to find much fault with this pedal. It sounds pretty good and tracks well. I've not been able to find a pedal that does a better job at what it does.

Gets the job done!

By Sweetwater Customer

I love this pedal and use it constantly. It makes changing keys (not tunings) super easy and sounds VERY natural. I actually bought another for my bassist and it works equally well for that. There is no longer a need to bring 4 guitars to each gig which really helps. I gave it four stars because it starts to feel a little less natural after the first 3 semitones (though still sounds natural). Around a full 2 steps down there is a slight delay that makes my tube amps feel a little more solid state. This isn't enough to throw of my playing as the delay is almost unnoticeable. Just makes my rig feel a little different.

Fastest Tracking I've Ever Experienced!

By Jason from Erie, PA
Music Background: Performing Musician, Live Sound and Studio Engineer

Best pitch shifting pedal I've ever used...period. I'm amazed by the speed at which this pedal can convert to digital, shift the pitch, convert back to analog and out to the amp. I notice absolutely no lag or delay at any pitch (down as far as one octave). It's this alone that makes this pedal useful in a band setting.

As far as the tone, yes it does give off a certain degree of that "artificiality" that comes with pitch transposition. I don't think anyone will ever overcome that given what's being done to the actual waveform your guitar is producing. I recorded my guitar transposed own and listened back to it (even posted it on the Six String app) and got many solid responses to the overall tone. This pedal is the market leader right now - and rightfully so.

I'm very happy with the pedal...it's going to solve my problems with having to bring extra guitars to a gig because my aging singer can't hit the high notes anymore.

Twist the selection knob...hit the switch....play. it doesn't even come with an owner's manual it's so simple.

How low can you go?

By Jeff from United States
Music Background: Hobby

I really enjoy this pedal as I play songs in a few different lower tunings. Also, I can simulate bass guitar for my own jams. I have more than one guitar so I could set them up in different tunings. However, some guitar's get more play than others and this DigiTech Drop pedal does what I need.

A Must-have

By Sweetwater Customer from Chicago

This magic little devil belongs in everyone's collection. It is so fun to tune to Eb, or maybe to play some cool bass line.

I was interested to see what might be "lost" in the signal as we drop even a half step, and if you do this comparison into a good clean amp, it seems that there is a slight reduction in "bandwidth" in the dropped signal. It is subtle, understandable given the nuances of a stringed instrument signal, and almost certainly irrelevant once you put in effects. For now, DigiTech has done the best job possible of engineering an awesome product for a reasonable price.

The Drop is awesome. It allows me to change keys without having to re-learn a song in a different position or with different chord shapes. It also seems very rugged.

Great

By Sweetwater Customer

Have had other drop tune pedals before. I'm A bass player and Lost a lot of sound and volume. Not with these though. My guitar player buddy bought 2 because he loves the octaves and wanted to keep it when we drop steps. The only negative is the dial is difficult to use with your foot. Sweet water kicked ass too. Less than 2 weeks from order and had it in Canada

Just OK...

By Sweetwater Customer from Buffalo

I bought this so that I wouldn't have to keep one of my guitars set up to play in Eb. It doesn't quite have the tone of a tuned down guitar. A bit digital. It is better than one other brand I tried in the past, but not right for me.

It works on Bass too!

By Greg L. from Sky Valley CA.
Music Background: Semi Pro Bassist

The guitar player in our band got one of these little bad boys, and a couple of weeks ago at practice, it was time to switch guitars for some drop tuned songs. He said HAHAHA! Watch this! He stepped on the pedal and dropped a whole step instantly and flawlessly. The whole band was blown away! Anyway, I checked Sweetwater first, they had it in stock and for the best price. Three days later I got mine! I grabbed my Jazz Bass, and tried the pedal out. It works perfect on Bass! Totally clean, no glitches. I can drop tune a standard 4 string down to B on a 5 string instantly. No change in tone, Just pitch. It's an awesome tool and it's part of my rig for good! Thanks Sweetwater!

Precisely what I needed.

By Alex from Damascus, MD
Music Background: Gigging musician.

After trying the Electro Harmonix Pitch Fork (and some years ago, the Morpheus), I was prepared (or resigned) to be fairly satisfied with pitch-shifting pedals. As you know, you can only be "fairly satisfied" with gear for so long before you can't take it anymore and look for something that does exactly what you want or as close to it as possible (and of course what exactly THAT is, changes all the time).

THAT is this pedal: I routinely shift between E and Eb tuning, and get tired of the constant guitar changes. Sure, it lets you show off your 200 guitars to an audience that doesn't care (save for the other guitar players in the front row with their arms judgmentally folded in front of them), but it's not necessary. The issues I had with the EH Pitch Fork simply do not exist with this pedal. Yes, at the VERY low detune settings, you do notice some unpleasantry, but at tunings like those you should be using heavier strings, a longer scale, or a seven-string, not a pitch shifter. For my application, this is absolutely perfect. Kudos to DigiTech on this one. Love it and recommend it without hesitation.

Goodbye Hours of Floyd Rose Maintenance

By Sweetwater Customer from United States

Awesome pedal. Definitely makes my Floyd Rose equipped guitars more versatile and saves me hours of time when it comes to switching tunings on them. No latency as far as I can notice. No signal degredation. I usually use it on 2 or 3 semitones to go from standard down a full step or 1.5 steps. Great addition to any rig.

Great Pedal Addition

By Andy K. from Johns Creek, GA
Music Background: Weekend Guitar Player

I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The reviews have been generally very good, but the number of reviews low.

Plugged it in and love it. I typically switch from a PRS Custom-22 (standard tuning) and an Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III (D# tuning). The LP is ok, but I love my PRS. This pedal gives be the ability to play an expanded song list without playing a second guitar and allows me to play my preferrred guitar. Also, when I play away from my home studio, I don't have to haul a second guitar.

No Drop Out

By Craig from Springfield, MA
Music Background: Student

On a whim I decided to order this pedal even though I was concerned with some of the negative feedback I read regarding latency. When I received the pedal I tested the latency myself and I could find little to no gap audible to me. Perhaps if you have other pedals in front or behind this pedal, it could effect the latency more, but this is the only pedal I run in front of my EVH 5150 III, and it works very well.

Although I considered giving this product 5 stars, I knocked off a half star because with my amp and pickups (Duncan Distortions) the best representation of the dropped tones were at 5 semitones. Perhaps with a different amp or pickups one could utilize the full octave, but with my current setup it didn't sound as natural after 5 semitones.

In the end I am very happy not having to own more than 2 electric guitars now as a result of owning this pedal so that I may be able to play a plethora of songs that aren't restricted to open or lower drop tunings than Drop D. Bravo Digitech!

Soooo Convenient

By Steve D. from Georgia, USA
Music Background: Intermediate Hobbyist

Go from to standard tuning to 1 or 2 whole steps down with the push of a button. I play a lot of covers and needed to keep 2 or 3 guitars in diffent tunings. Now I can keep one guitar in standard and adjust as needed with the pedal.

It does get artificial sounding when you drop it past about 2 steps down but sounds very natural between 1/2 and 2 steps down. This thing is great - try it.

Pretty Darn Good

By Neil from Phoenix, AZ
Music Background: Pro Musician

Tonally this thing is great. No warble or weirdness, responds naturally to overdrive/distortion. Any pitch shifter will affect the tone more the farther from pitch it goes, because it shifts the overtones and the natural resonant peak of your pickups along with the fundamental pitch. But unlike other pedals on the market, this one is glitch-free. The momentary feature is cool for adding in baritone guitar licks. The buffer seems to be quality and doesn't affect tone in my rig.

All that said, there is a little bit of latency. It's not enough to make your bandmates or the audience notice but it does interrupt the immediacy of the guitar-to-amp feel. It just doesn't feel quite right. If it had less latency I would give it 5 stars but it is the best detune pedal I've tried, and I've tried quite a few. Even with the latency it is more than worth it to not have to bring extra guitars to the gig. I still have to bring a half-step down guitar for my acoustic gigs because most of them are quiet enough to hear the acoustic sound of the guitar along with the monitors. A feedback buster might help with that.

I ordered before the first shipment arrived, but I spoke on the phone with my Sweetwater rep and they knew exactly the day they were getting them and had it in the mail to me the same day. Great service!

Tuning Dreams come True

By Joe A. from Long Island, NY

Its everything i hoped it would be plus the octaver setting. Well built as expected like a Whammy. some interference when powered up whether on or off (pedal may be to close to amp) but otherwise chords, notes and stretches are all true sounding. Well done!

Goodbye to carrying multiple guitars for drop tunings!

By Fair S. from Sacramento, CA USA
Music Background: Semi-Pro Musician

Ok, i bought this pedal after only reading a few articles (all with the same info basically) and seeing the only (at the time) video demo on youtube. It looked super promising, but i got mine today and i'm blown away.

My band plays in standard tuning, drop D tuning, and drop B tuning.... standard to drop D is a simple on stage adjustment, but drop B requires a whole different guitar with the correct tuning. With this pedal i'm able to take my drop D guitar and with a simple click of the pedal, drop it down to drop B with no problem. it tracks incredibly fast and doesn't have any of that "warbly" sound. It plays chords and single notes just beautifully! There may be a tiny bit of tone coloration, maybe a little lost off the top end, but i've only played with it for like 30 minutes, but need to do more extensive testing. This could just be the fact that i had the guitar drop 2 full steps and so it's naturally just a lower tone, I tried playing the same chords with and without the drop tuning and for the most part, they sound identical.

This is the best "live" tool ever. I would still continue to use multiple guitars to do different tunings in a studio situation, but live, you can't beat this. Its fast, it sounds good, and now, i don't have to carry as many guitars.
