Perfect
After doing a little research I decided to try this pedal and it has become my favorite distortion, and it's good for pushing my Flatiron fuzz too. Very nice note definition while playing chords, and a creamy lead tone that still cuts through. It's got a sound in the ballpark of a Rat and a Distortion +
I highly recommend it
Mxr Distortion
Probably the best Distortion pedal especially for the money. More like an overdrive with a little something extra. Simplistic and does not degrade tone. Great for harmonics as well. No harshness or lingering overtones. Add a TS9 Tune screamer and it's magical. Great job MXR. Thank you Sweetwater for the great Customer service and phone follow ups. You have set a standard that others can't live up to.
MXR m155 distortion 111 pedal
Absolutely love this pedal
Outstanding!
I was shocked when I first played through this pedal, it really sounds more like an overdrive than distortion to me, and an outstanding overdrive at that. Especially for the price, this can't be beat. Very amp-like dynamics and surprisingly quiet for how much overdrive-distortion-crunch it's capable of. It won't go all the way to modern high gain, but gets to about 80's cranked JCM800 crunch. I like this pedal better than some $200-range overdrive-distortion pedals I own. Can't recommend highly enough
Rock and roll in a box
If you can't rock with this pedal, you should sell your guitar on ebay. Or craigslist. Nuff said.
Excellent for grunge
very warm distortion excellent for grunge or even for a Hard rock.... it's so nice warm tone that I can use for Solo too
Best Distortion I've Ever Owned
I agree completely with the 1st review. I run a Dunlop DC Brick to alleviate the battery hassle. Also, this pedal is better run in-line rather than thru an FX loop. Great well built pedal, perfect amount of distortion. Metal heads would most likely be disappointed.
Useable Distortion
Warm yet retains enough edginess. Stays reasonably tight in the low end. Plenty of volume on tap to beast- up your amp. The gain knob is useable throughout its entire range. I would call it Medium/High gain. I gain stack with a Modified Bad *** OD and it gets me into metal land with ease. Warm, organic, natural and very useable without sacrificing aggression.
Excellent Little Pedal
For $... it rocks real nice. Excellent crunch and drive, good for some bluesy/classic rock sounds, but definitely not the most Metalzone thing out there (whether that's a good thing or not is up to you). Paired with my EHX Soul Food and MXR Dyna Comp I can get some awesome sustain and lead tones.
Kinda Tired
I have owned this pedal for over 10 years, it currently has a problem with the distortion working intermittently. Truthfully, I really don't have a complaint other than having to buy another one, yes, I said another one. Without hesitation, I will buy another one. I believe it is the best of it's kind and the price is attractive. I have tried a tube screamer and don't like it as well. I think the multiple capabilities of this pedal are unique and make it worth keeping in the arsenal!
Rockin' Red Box
Simply put, this thing rocks! It goes from a sweet touch of bluesy overdrive through 70's style rock tones to a 'modern rock' distrtion with a decent amount of gain (although not enough gain for modern metal sounds).
It's got a nice 'warm' sound to it and isn't as harsh as some other distortions. It won't muddy up your tone either, so you can get a lot of sustain and still have clarity in your sound.
The only problem is that you have to unscrew the bottom of the pedal to change the battery, but this pedal is worth the trouble and you can always use a 9volt power supply if you have one.
It's built tough and could take a beating on stage.
All in all it's a very versatile pedal that sounds awesome.
This May Be...
This may be the droid you're looking for. If you're after a Tubescreamer type sound with more gain this will definitely suit your needs. Not a bad pedal by any stretch, just not quite what I was looking for. But for <$80 it's hard to pass up. Just don't expect anything other than a heavy overdrive
Great OD/Distortion Pedal!
I put this at the front of my dirt section on my board and I absolutely love it! I use it as a clean-esque boost, a TS-9 style overdrive, and everything in between! Built like a tank like all MXR pedals are!
