Peavey Josh Homme Decade Too 10-watt 1 x 8-inch Combo Amplifier
Peavey Josh Homme Decade Too 10-watt 1 x 8-inch Combo Amplifier Reviews
Musical inspiration can strike from the most unexpected of places. For instance, Josh Homme’s self-admitted “signature weapon” on several iconic Queens of the Stone Age tracks came in the form of the long-discontinued Peavey Decade practice amp. Josh directly gives credit to the model for his signature “wiry” tones during an enlightening interview on Mark Ronson's Watch the Sound documentary series. Naturally, as a result, the model then exploded overnight on the secondhand market; however, Peavey’s Josh Homme Decade Too brings the original’s idiosyncratic sonics back to the masses. This compact, 10-watt combo amplifier draws from Peavey’s TransTube technology to deliver all the fury of a low-wattage valve amplifier, pushing it through an 8-inch speaker for a sharp and focused blast of sonic aggression. What’s more, Josh requested Peavey upgrade the model with an enhanced 3-band EQ section (now with Bass and Treble boosts), an effects loop, and the ability to switch between channels via footswitch. A transformer-balanced XLR speaker-simulated direct out with Level and Ground Lift controls ties it all together, arming modern guitarists with a far more versatile and studio-friendly iteration of the Josh Homme Decade Too’s ferocious forebearer.
Kyuss and Early QOTSA Tones in a Box
Incredibly happy to say that this bad boy makes it so easy to get Josh's Kyuss and early Queens tones without needing a load of pedals or modelers, but it's not a one trick pony. A wide variety of clean and dirty tones, and it pairs well with pedals to help make this small but mighty monster what you want it to be.
Great amp. Different flavor.
Was excited to finally try this out. The controls are very usable. Ive been playing alot of clean on it. Single coil neck tones are awesome. Theres something about a clean solid state tone. I have alot of pedals I need to try but so far it takes fuzzes really well. I'm somewhat of a speaker snob and the speaker seems very pleasant without any real spikey frequencies. Great light weight amp. Awesome for practice at the very least. The higher gain sound sounds pretty interesting. Different than my other amps. Still trying to wrap my head around the tone of Josh Homme... Lots of mids I guess. I used a PDF 1 fuzz pedal with the mids cranked. I think it gets the job done overall. I know I still have alot to uncover with this amp. Pretty cool looking in person.
Now, where's the Bandit?!!
I had an original Peavey Decade USA around 1980, and sold it along the way for lunch money....a move i've regretted ever since. Voila, now i was finally able to get a replacement. First thing i noticed is the tolex covering is different.....it's smoother, the original was a thicker, seemingly more rugged variety. Besides the obvious other changes, it's the sound that matters and to me this sounds close, but my memory of 45 years ago ain't the best either.
Easy QOTSA (and more!) in a box
Wiry, aggressive, and LOUD, but with a surprisingly broad tonal pallette. This thing has been a ton of fun so far, and it's totally plug and play to get great desert rock tones. Or Kinks tones if that's what you're looking for.
I don't love the direct out, but I can't remember one I've ever liked, so hard to be mad about that.
Great amp! I'll probably consider the extension cabinet. The one problem is Sweetwater didn't include candy in the box!
