Mechanical disaster!

By Koka
Music Background: Producer

I bought this pedal a year ago and had it lying around my studio, never got to use it. Started using it yesterday and today it broke!

1. Anything, but smooth. As soon as I started using it, I could feel every single step of internal gear. It felt like walking on a stone beach.

2. It never reached max value (127), got stuck around 102 and sometimes it did not reach zero.

3. After it got stuck, I opened it up and saw a cracked gear, made of the shittiest mild plastic that even the worst toy company wouldn’t use for a toy gear-motor.

Mechanical structure is reasonable, but materials and build quality is simply awful.

This pedal is a waist of money and it can ruin your rehearsal, concert, etc.

I think DOD should apologize for letting this out on the market. I am never going to buy any of their products again.

Total piece of crap

By Dennis from New York
Music Background: Professional

This thing could not be more poorly designed. Not smooth at all and feels like you are rolling the dice with every use. other reviewers, mine busted after minimal use. The internal sprockets shattered like they were made out of the cheapest plastic you can find in China. It"s a total abomination that there isn"t a recall on this item.

Look elsewhere

By Jacob from Austin, TX
Music Background: Full-Time Pro

I would not recommend this pedal to anyone for a few reasons:

1) Most notably, the internal gears are made of cheap plastic. After a few weeks of use, the teeth gave way and broke, rendering the pedal entirely useless. Other reviewers note the same pedal-breaking issue.

2) This pedal does not send a maxed value at full toe-down position. Another review notes this same issue.

3) The dome-top screws underneath the pedal (which connect to the internal components, rendering them 100% necessary) are large—this isn't an issue if you don't want to mount this pedal on your pedalboard, but these screws make it difficult to mount the pedal to a board without DIYing some solution for solid points of contact.

Ultimately, this is an inferior product. You should not spend your money on it until DOD fixes its issues.

Very Fragile

By Sweetwater Customer

This pedal broke after about 4 weeks and after opening it up for inspection I realized that the internal components were made of very fragile plastic. I"m just not sure how that that is suppose we to sustain heavy repeated use. Great-looking pedal, but doomed to break.

DOD pedal not meant to last

By Jared S. from Los Angeles, CA
Music Background: former pro, now aging dinosaur

This is an update to a satisfactory review I posted in April 2018. I ordered two of them, both of which have now failed due to a "mechanical problem" (cheap plastic gear parts). Got one repaired but it's not worth the headache. I'm kicking this product to the curb and trying the exp pedal from Morley. Even the Valeton exp pedals that I hate still work and I've used them when these DOD's crapped out...until eventually trying a Morley, which has been satisfactory so far.

DOD mini expression is OK.

By Jared S. from Los Angeles, CA
Music Background: knowledgeable hobbyist

If you need a small/mini expression pedal this is the one to get. I've tried most others...the Yamaha big-foot expression pedal being probably the best...smooth and precise but, carrying two of those monsters is not my 1st choice. On this DOD pedal I recently discovered that the rubber stop for the max position prevented max expression values. Expression affects levels into FX, so besides low volume, things were sounding a little thin too. It took some time and frustration to discover this "feature" but when I did, I just popped off the rubber stop and...max expression is now consistently 125-127 instead of 100 - 108. For me, 3 stars doesn't mean "really good" it means "works better than most". Others I tried were below 2 stars because I couldn't create smooth swells with them. Basically they were full on or off...not too much going on in between. This one is acceptable.

Quality Control Problems

By Hal
Music Background: Guitarist for over 30 years

This looked like just the thing I needed - a small-format expression pedal, with good flexibility, at a semi-reasonable price. I ordered it before it was released, and waited as delivery deadlines slipped 4 months.

I was extremely pleased when the pedal finally arrived. I hooked it up to my Rocktron MIDI Raider, and it worked great. For 2 weeks. Then it had a mechanical failure and stopped working entirely. I returned it on warranty, and was sent another. The new one does not go all the way to zero resistance in the full-toe position, so that I don't get the full range of midi expression values out of it. So it was essentially useless on arrival. I opened another warranty return case, and will see if they can get it right the third time.

In the meanwhile, I ordered a Zoom expression pedal, which has been working fine for me.

The DOD pedal would be a great product if it worked well, but I don't know how I could ever trust it for a gig.

Versatile expression

By William O. from Raleigh, NC

This expression pedal is small and compact, but it performs as well (or better) than my full-sized pedal. The best thing is that it fits very easily in my keyboard's gig bag.
I use this pedal with a DSI Rev2 Synthesizer. In the TRS setting, the change from full-to-zero was very fast in a short amount of travel. However, placing the switch to the RTS setting allows it to operate with a gradual and uniform change over the entire range. It also works well with my digital piano in the RTS setting. I appreciate this pedal's versatility and compact size.
