It works

By Taylor G. from Elmer, LA

It's a bit darker than a normal crybaby wah. If that's what you like then it's great. If not it's still good

Dunlop 535Q

By Keat M.

I love this wah. I bought it to replace my old Vox wah and am very pleased with the Cry Baby's range of sounds. The knobs could be better marked to help me remember level settings for certain sounds; otherwise, this is a gem

Yah Wah

By Diddyman from Louisiana

Well I finally made the buy on this 535Q!
I like it a lot so far, because the features work like I wanted them to.
Zydeco is what I am using it for now, and the range selection with Q works perfect.
One thing is that the boost button is in a good place if your setup allows access.
My pedal board doesn't allow access.
I would like to have a switch in the back position for the boost just like the effect switch, latching!
The double switching toe for effect and heal for boost would be amazing, i would buy that today!!!
All and all I like the pedal and the versatility it offers for all kinds of music.

Can't go wrong w the 535Q an industry standard

By Paul

This wah has been around for ages and was the first major optioned wah that controls centering freq, Q and boost level. All wahs after this have used this same extended platform. There might be "better" ones but that is all your preference for sounds. This can attain anything you will find useful in a wah and for the price is much lower than many speciality signature wahs that are much more one trick ponies. You can pay the most $$ and get an Exotic but again the same basic features but over $ more. I like the Exotic wah probably the best one I have ever had. I got another one of these the last time I made the mistake of selling off my pedals for the latest greatest one thing does all, which never works out really. Digital is a lovely thing and technology is ever improving but good old analog circuits just still sound better and a more organic tone. The 535Q is an industry GOAT pedal. Best bang for the buck! And you can adjust it to suit your own personal desires.

Dunlop 535Q Cry Baby 535Q Multi-wah Pedal - Black

By Christopher D. from Franklin, MA
Music Background: Old Dog (but can learn new tricks)

The Cry Baby and Dunlop are synonymous. Solid build, operates and sounds exactly what you would expect from the original (plus a few innovations with this model!). As with all wah pedals it takes some practice to get a good, controlled response to the pedal movement so experiment with what works for your music. Not much more to state here - well constructed (built to last) and oozes cry baby !

Expanded Versatility

By Mike K. from New York & Tokyo
Music Background: Guitarist & Composer for 40 years.

Have always loved Wah, listening to it and playing it. Have been using the Standard Cry Baby (GCB95) for years. I work and record in two different countries and the idea of having to carry gear across the Pacific a few times a year is dreadful (baggage allowances are being limited more and more), so it made sense (for my back and wallet) to have a set-up in each country. Thus, I needed another Wah (nothing wrong with my Standard, it is a beast) and decided to go with the Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah. What a great decision: being able to adjust where the frequency is centered and to decide how wide the range sweep is opens up audio possibilities and allows for fine tuning; the boost function is an excellent addition too when you need that extra bit to cut through and/or soar on a lead ("I got 11"). As always, Sweetwater offers great prices, great shipping, and great customer service. My former sales engineer left Sweetwater to be closer to family a couple of months ago; Jordon Clohessy has stepped in seamlessly: his professional knowledge and friendly demeanor are great - plus, he made sure to familiarize himself with my situation and past orders. Great pedal and great Sales Engineer.

"It's hard to beat!"

By Sweetwater Customer

I've owned and seriously used many of the crybaby line up (with exception of the signature models [Why would I want to play someone else's wah when I can play my own?]), and I personally just can't get enough of this one. It takes no time at all to find, set, or change the tone of the wah to match the wah tone that is in your mind after you understand what the controls do. It's hard to beat!

I don't know how much more you could ask from a wah pedal

By John W.

I used a cry baby wah I bought in 1996 for 25 years and it finally started wearing out. It started making whistling noises when I turned it on. These thugs will last a long time. This newer 535Q has a ton of great features. Sounds way better then my older one. Has a bunch of cool features let you dial in exactly which sound works best for your taste. Deff worth the money.

Not yet happy

By John T. from MO

Not happy. It is not like my old pedal and it was ancient. It had to switches. Depending of the order of the the switches pressed you could get Clean, distortion, volume control and wah. It was magifico, but it went to the pdael heaven in the sky. I miss it. I

I don't like this pedal because I truly am Jaded, and it is just a matter of getting used to. SO my issue isn't with that. My issue is with the complexity of add to board, however I discover a thing call pedalock for this pedal. once I get it I will update on the 1st pedalboard issue. The second is my power plug won't will not click into the pedal thus just falls out. I refuse to use batteries. so I have to send it back to Sweetwater and either get another or have them replace the power plug it and test it with a voodoo 5 ISO. So as it stand I can't say anything good. I miss my old pedal.

Worth the extra money

By Adam from GR Michigan
Music Background: Jam enthusiast

If you're like me, you probably spend hours comparing similar things before buying. Well, I already knew what the vox wah sounded like, Vintage and classic. So I wanted that and for almost 30% more $, it was kind of a "sleep on it" deal considering this over the vox classic... But this crybaby has so many cool features. It really is worth the extra money. The boost really kicks ...!!! I don't find myself messing with the eq on it too much but it's nice to know if you need to shape that sound to compensate for a particular rig, pickup or pedal signal/tone loss; you can. And the range selector is super useful. It selects the center of the wah range, perfect if you're switching between a single coil and humbucker, you might want a more "bassy" centered wah on the single coils, and a thinner, more trebly wah if you're rocking a humbucker and / or a lot of distortion. (Just my preference!) I find that very useful. All fun tone-seeking joy! SUPER solidly built and the battery compartment is easy to work, too.

This is my first Wah pedal and now my last. Not my last for bad reasons but all good ones. Does what description says and to a tee. Built like a tank as all the features of signature artist pedals but you don't have to figure out which one you want or have to have. Nothing cheap about this pedal top notch. And Sweetwater service is top notch as well. A+

good pedal

By Mike M. from New Jersey
Music Background: playing for 40 years

good wah sound my only issue, which does not agree with another review here, is when this is next to my pedal power supply the wah has a nasty hum when engaged. took me awhile to figure it out, other pedals do not have this issue. the wah has to be about 6 inches away from the pedal psu to not hum.
my supply is located under the pedal board, the wah was almost right on top of the supply, off to the right side. so either the wah or the supply could be shielded better. They both are in metal enclosures.

Great Wah

By Dave from North Carolina
Music Background: long time music `hobbyist, 50 years now

I had one of these for a year or two... or three. I didn't get rid of it because I didn't like it, I loved it. It got stolen and I'm only know getting around to getting one again.

All the adjustments are great. I found a setting I liked and just left it there, but it wasn't the mid-range choice. A couple of small items that kept it from being a 5.0 (although I don't iknow how others compared, because I reaearched Wahs when I got this one and was convinced this was the tone for me, others seemed too thin and harsh to my ear).

1) The plastic gear someone mentioned. I found this mentioned as a weak point in many guitar forum discussions about it. The de facto opinion was to just buy a spare before it went bad, since it would. Mine never did and I probably still have that nylon material (iirc, I'm a retired mechanical engineer) segment gear someplace in a box.

2) The main complaint (especially in critical reviews at the time) was it didn't "turn on" right. I had adjusted the height of the button when I got it, it seemed too low to me. As it winds up that's the fix. At the time, it was consistently coming out of the factory adjusted too low (about 10 years ago).

3) The two small knob adjustments. Yes, they're small and hard to see. What I finally did was just turn them until it sounded right... not caring where that was. After all, the sound is what matters, no? ;)

Other than those little niggling things (the height of the button seems to have been corrected since I no longer see the complaint; the segment gear never wore out of me and it's only about $6; adjusting to sound not the number is by far the better method anyway... unless you want to be able to quickly change settings, then you would need the numbers you have adjusted it too in the past for each sound) it's a great pedal, great sound, and as others have said... built like a tank.

Only wah pedal you will ever need!

By Daniel from Houston
Music Background: Studio player....30 years exp.

First of all this pedal has the sweet original Cry Baby sound we all love, and also amazing flexibility...The ability to alter the sweep and Q settings really make this the only Wah pedal you will ever need....it takes some patience to experiment and document the settings you want to keep, but once you are there, you will be really happy with the results. I won't try to describe the sounds too much....there are some good YouTube videos including one from Sweetwater to demonstrate the pedals sounds and capability...but what they don't mention is that I hear no Tone Suck associated with this pedal....so you get outstanding wah pedal sound flexibility and really good original tone preservation when the pedal is off...what more could you want from a Wah pedal? The only reason I gave the pedal a 4.5 and not 5 was due to the plastic(nylon?) pot gear wand attached to the pedal and the pot....metal wand and pot gear would have been a 5 for me...I am a studio player so I am not worried about road abuse....you however might be... :)

535Q Review

By Dave L. from Tucson

I have to agree with the good things other people have said about this pedal. The tone is awesome and the ability to adjust the tone and range is also very awesome. However there's two things that really bug me about this pedal, and those are: number one -there is not an indicator light to tell you if it's on or off which is a real problem and has led to a lot of adjustments in my rig and then I find out that it's on and you know. The other thing is it will not hold a position there is no way to adjust the tension on pedal and it will always fall toe-down.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars March 7, 2017

Impressive

By Mark from Alaska

This wah sounds great and it's every bit as versatile as the Sweetwater description boasts.

I've found my happy place as far as the adjustment settings of the "Q" dial, frequency range sweep, and adjustable boost, and I don't stray to far from the settings that sound the best to me. Of course I do make slight adjustment changes when dealing with variables (e.g. room acoustics, changes in signal path and amp). The point is that the adjustments are useable, and with them you can create a wah pedal that is custom to your own personal preferences.

I really like this pedal and I'm happy to attest to its value, but what really inspired me to write this review is that I realized today that I've had this pedal for over three years now, and that's longer than I've ever had a wah pedal last. I play nearly every day, and although I take care of my pedals, this pedal is getting stepped on all the time and used aggressively, so that it's lasted over three years is a testimony to it's durability.

I have another 535Q on my Sweetwater wishlist just in case my current pedal dies, but like the Energizer Bunny, the one I have just keeps going and going.

What's not to love!!??

By Matt P. from Maplewood NJ
Music Background: Former Pro - hobbydad - noisemaker

I've been at the Wah pedal thing for a while-my first one in junior high was a Vox and it was "new". I own a couple of Bad Horsey II Pedals and previously those have been the benchmark. This year I'm concentrating on simplification. I found the perfect amp set up for me and I'm no longer using very much upfront. (68 deluxe reissue/64 fender concert set dirty/clean with a switcher). I've noticed of late that the more pedals I have upfront, the more degraded my signal is even using smart devices like the Radial Dragster. Anyway, I'm down to four pedals -A tuner, a Keely screamer, and a the mini Deja vibe.....and now the 535Q. The reason for the switch was the Morley is noisy when connected and put anywhere near the power supplies. Engaging it and moving it near the pedal power box creates a large hum. Not so with the Dunlop. It's dead quiet. I'm no longer using a noise gate-I don't need one as the Keeley is quiet and this is too. With regard to features-this does everything you could want. The six settings for range are very useful as is the Q setting. The boost is all right too… However I set it for its lowest point. Many thanks Matt Masek!!!

Dunlop Crybaby 535Q

By Dave G. from PA
Music Background: Blues- classic rock

I couldn't be happier with this wah pedal! It comes with some instructions on how to set the pedal like different artist on different songs, i.e. Jimi Hendrix voodoo chile, so it gives you a starting point and from there it's up to you it almost feels like the skies the limit with this wah, also the boost is a great touch.
Plan on spending a lot of time exploring all of your tonal options.

By Gio from Pa
Music Background: Guitar for 10 years

Brand new out of the box, hooked up to my mustang iii amp, with a brand new battery. HORRIBLE scratching noise even when the guitar volume was at zero. Tried new cables, different guitar, different amp. I assume its the potentiometer inside the pedal. Called sweetwater and they said they would send me a new pedal and return box for the one i recieved, so hopefully the new one will not have that noise problem.

535Q

By Sweetwater Customer

They built this thing like a tank. They put a nice stainless 6 position wah range knob. A nice anodized boost kick switch. And then they leave the 2 tiny volume and variable Q knobs. They're a little tough to see the tick marks on to really pinpoint your settings. Overall....not bad.

Great Wah Pedal

By Tramp from Indiana
Music Background: Been playing Guitar about 41 years, I have played in Hair metal bands, straight up Rock and roll bands, and even a couple country bands. Don't tour anymore but I will love this in my studio...

I've been on the hunt for the perfect Wah pedal, for me that is, for many years, and I think I have found it,,,
Since I am a old school gear guy I thought the 535Q might have too many bells and whistles that I would not end up using, man was I wrong. This pedal allows you to find your perfect wah tone you have heard in your head, or on slash's recordings, lol...

Seems to be constructed very well, and should last an old rocker like me for many years to come.

Love it!!!!!

By eric from Beatrice NE
Music Background: bass player for life, 3 years on guitar

This is the best wah I have ever used!! I had a high watt with the knobs on the side. High watt is now the 2nd best wah Ive ever used!! Ive used many brands, rare street brands even, and this sounds great, but the controls are what sells it. I love the options on this wah, subtle to long sweeps, paired with some visual sound delay and vox tube tone and BUTTER to my ears!! Just using this wah has made me a better player!! I recommend everyone owning this wah, wear a helmet so when your mind is blown its easy clean up!

total versatility

By Juan C. from Quito, Ecuador

If you are into cover playing.. this is it! the adjustable frequency range is amazingly wide, you can cover very sutil wah movements and very pronounced sweeps with a quick knob movement... Sturdy construction (as a rule of thumb for crybabies) perfect for on the road gigs.. the boost feature though.. for me a little complicated to kick in during shows, bottom line if you're looking for versatility.. the few extra bucks totally worth it!

Thanks to youtube Wah comparisons and reading several website testimonials I chose the 535Q. My band likes the sound and I apreciate the features. This Cry Baby allows you to vary the frequency range and the center of it. It is very smooth to use, built like a rock for those who may play hard. I really like the volume adjustment and extra boost in volume. Thanks to all at Seewtwater and especially Keith.

I'm a fan!

By JW from Huntington Beach, CA USA
Music Background: Shy closet guitarist for 25 years

I've owned one for over eight years and it's still going strong. I love the sounds you can make with this thing. I just purchased another one for my roommate who's new to guitar and I'm sure he'll love it when he's ready to spice up his playing. I've also used it with my theremin and that makes for some insanely human-like 'oww' 'wow' & 'waaah' sounds! I highly recommend it if you own a theremin and want to take it to an even farther planet than the instrument already provides. Of course it's also fantastic for guitar. I've never owned a different brand or model of this type of pedal so I have nothing to compare it to but it gives you so many options that you can get whatever you desire from it without being overloaded with adjustments. I play at home about every other day and I don't beat it up too much but I use it almost every session and it's been faithfully functional since it was new. I probably would've rated this 5 stars if I had something to compare it to. Definitely pick one up if you want one that can be dialed in to get what you want!

Great Wah.

By Julio from Salisbury, NC, USA
Music Background: Playing guitar for 4 years.

I've messed around with all of the settings to get the tone I want just right. And when I found that tone, I fell in love with this pedal. This pedal can make any "Wah" sound under the sun. From Alice In Chains' "Man In The Box" , all the way to Kirk Hammett's tone of "Wah."

Awesome.

By J. T. from Fort Wayne, In.

Like I said awesome. Everything you could want out of a wah, because it can be set to be just about any wah you could want. The only reason I give it less than 5 is that if engaged (Wah ON) it will pop or crack if switching either the boost or the wah range. Though I wish I could change these settings while the wah is on, at least I can change them. I couldn't imagine having a wah I couldn't manipulate to make different sounds like this one. AWESOME!

Review The Crybaby 535Q Multi-Wah

By Kristian S. from Cornwall
Music Background: Musical as ever....

The Amp should go on last......
1 Plugin guitar after you wired up your whole rig...
2, Turn everything but the amp on.... check it's all running....
3, Amp on (standby) warming up......
4, Turn down master volume and switch amp full on (off standby)
No clicks, no damage....no worries....

Product works like a charm

By Cameron from Fl
Music Background: Guitarist/vocalist

The Crybaby works great you can set it to your specific needs and change it up to make it sound different it missed out on 5 stars because when you turn on your amp and turn it on for the first time (stops after the first time though) it makes a loud click noise and i dont think its good for the amp...
