Input section
The Input section of Gambit Series culls the filters from the revered EQ1 equalizer, supplying you with -12dB of low cut and -6dB of high cut. Like the classic hardware units, these smooth, low-noise filters boast discrete parameters, but with hundreds of steps to ensure spot-on accuracy.
Dynamic Shape section
Along with standard expansion and gating, Softube's Weiss Gambit Series for Console 1 includes the DS1-MK3 compressor/limiter/de-esser's mind-blowing below-threshold compression, which enables you to use it for upward expansion. With Gambit Series, you can enhance soft sounds without affecting loud sounds. Imagine being able to bring up the level of your reverb tails or the room sound of your drum bus — with Gambit Series you can! You can also coax more sustain out of an electric bass track without affecting its punch.
Equalizer section
Around Sweetwater, Weiss Engineering's EQ1 gets mad respect — it's the definitive reference digital mastering equalizer. Gambit Series includes a one-for-one, line-by-line port of the original hardware, arming you with four bands of sound sculpting with a -39dB to +18dB cut/boost range. The low and high bands vaunt a fixed Q with selectable cut, peaking, and shelving modes, while the mid bands replicate the EQ1's extreme 0.2–650 Q range. You get minimum phase, linear phase, and dynamic EQ functionality; plus, Gambit Series gives you features not found in the hardware's algorithms, along with 32-bit/192kHz operation and overhauled ergonomics.
Compressor section
Softube's Weiss Gambit Series for Console 1's Compressor section includes a stripped-down feature set that's plucked straight from the DS1-MK3. If you like Softube's Weiss Compressor/Limiter plug-in, you'll especially dig this section. The ratio ranges from 1:1 to a staggering 1000:1, and you can dial in an attack time as short as 0.02ms. From subtle dynamics control to all-out slam, Gambit Series delivers a sound that can't be replicated without dropping thousands on outboard gear.
Output section
Gambit Series was designed to deliver crystal-clear sound. That said, its Output section — based on the DS1-MK3's limiter — has a few dirty tricks up its sleeve. You can use the Drive knob to push the limiter harder, effectively limiting all signals above 0dB. Then use the Character knob to select between a spot-on port of the DS1-MK3 and added modes from Softube's MM-1 Mastering Maximizer plug-in.
