Taylor Circa 74 150-watt 1 x 10-inch Acoustic Guitar Amplifier
Taylor Circa 74 150-watt 1 x 10-inch Acoustic Guitar Amplifier Reviews
What began as a pet project for company founder Bob Taylor has come full circle. The Circa 74 marks Taylor’s first acoustic amplifier — and boy, it is a heavy hitter! This 150-watt, 2-channel combo is utterly different from any other amp on today’s market. First and foremost, its cabinet is built entirely from mahogany for greater warmth. The 10-inch full-range speaker is voiced to deliver the clarity and treble extension needed to accommodate any combination of guitars and singers without harshness. Each channel includes an independent 3-band EQ and Reverb control to dial up a superb sound quickly. Finally, the Circa 74 arrives with a custom stand for performing. Performers looking for a new favorite acoustic guitar and vocal amplifier will fall in love with Taylor’s Circa 74.
meh...
It has the usual fine Taylor craftsmanship, but is only mediocre, at best, as an amplifier. I should have bought a Fishman Loudbox instead.
It does look pretty setting in my studio, though!
Circa 74✅
I have a Taylor 214cc-SB DLX Accoustic guitar and I wanted an Accoustic amplifier that didn't have all the onboard effects to get in the way. I have an Accoustic 30 wedge that is good but when I plugged into the Circa 74 I knew my Accoustic amp search was over. I use a Baggs para eq to deal with any feedback issues and run my reverb, delay, chorus, and a Bodyrez pickup inhancer through the Baggs effects loop. Im very happy with the Circa 74 amp and my set up, the tone is magnificent and the amp looks as good as it sounds. It has 150 watts but it is a small amp which is good on stage when your also dragging in your electric guitar equipment at what ever honky tonk your blowing the walls out at. Thanks Sweetwater and Taylor
It hisses!
It is beautiful to look at and sounds good when actually playing and/or singing, but there is a distinct hiss from the speaker when turned up to playing volume. (EQ set to mid for all. With and without mic and/or guitar connected.) The specifications do not include signal-to-noise ratio, so I guess it is what it is. I just expected a little better for a $ amp, and especially one from Taylor.
Simply the Best
It is a very simple amp for the price and has no bells or whistles. You could get a lot more functionality for less money with other brands....and I have. I have not, however, owned an amp delivering anywhere as near perfect tone as the Taylor. It sounds like my guitar, just amplified. I have had Boss, Fishman and Fender, some better than others but none, even their top end offering, is as clear and perfect as the Taylor. As always, Jake at Sweetwater was super to work with and I was able to return an amp I wasn't too happy with in exchange for a Circa 74 Demo that became available. I could not be happier with my choice.
Finally, the one we’ve been waiting for.
Hands down the best acoustic amplifier I've ever heard. I tried it out with my Gibson j-15, a hand made Puerto Rican cuatro, and a Cordoba nylon acoustic electric. It made each of those instruments sound as natural as playing them unplugged, except a lot louder. No more nasally brittle tone. Vocals are clear and warm too. Mountains of volume headroom. 5 stars. Highly recommend.
Perfect Piezo Partner
If you are playing a guitar with a Piezo pickup such as a PRS Hollow body, you need this amp. It has incredible low end and makes your acoustic sound like your acoustic, just louder. Too many acoustic amps color the sound, where the Circa 74 gives you the actual sound. If you have a great sounding acoustic you want to hear that sound and not something else. Of course the EQ allows you to adjust the sound if needed. Most people will run the piezo output to the PA, but you are missing out on a lot of tone. Most people are use to running 2 guitar amps, one clean and one with effects, I have been using a different 2 amp setup for a long time, guitar amp and acoustic amp for the piezo. It gives you a huge, full sound.
There is nothing on the market as good as the Circa 74
Circa 74
This amp is an awesome addition to my studio. Acoustic tones are great and very musical. Plenty of power to keep up with the band for rehearsals. Been playing my Taylor 312 Nylon and 175 Archtop thru it and it sounds great. Craftsmanship is really good and the stand is a great perk, sturdy and aesthetically a perfect fit.
Outstanding amp
I have been waiting a while for Taylor to come out with an amp, and it was so worth the wait!!
Works Well With Others
I have a Taylor 310ce when they first came out. I replaced the Fishman with a Baggs pickup system when LR Baggs first came out with the lyric. The Taylor sounds great with the Circa 74. I also have a Gibson CEC, and it also sounds great. I like the approach the amp has. A good reverb, that works well with your pedal board, and different pickups. This is a great amp, that does not weigh much, and has a great warm sound, but at 150 watts, it still works on stage if you need it. The only suggestion have for Taylor, is to have a bank of presets to store your sound when changing guitars with different pickup systems installed. This would make an easier transition.
Taylor -Acoustic Amp - Circa74
Just picked one up yesterday at Sweetwater, Love this amp, sounds great and looks amazing. Kudos to my sales guy Greg Baum, and of course Don Carr for masking such an informative video on this amp. Looking forward to gigging with it soon, for now it sits idle with my Taylor Guitars. (Check out photo) I graduated from high school 1974 and my dog is named Taylor. Thank You Taylor & Sweetwater!!
