Boss CE-2W Waza Craft Chorus Pedal Reviews

Chorus Guitar Pedal with 3 Modes (Standard, CE-1 Chorus, and CE-1 Vibrato) and Rate and Depth Controls

The CE-1 Chorus Ensemble was the first BOSS pedal, and its spacious modulated effects are still coveted by guitarists decades later. The BOSS CE-2W Waza Craft pedal re-creates the classic sound of the CE-1 (and its successor, the CE-2) using premium all-analog circuitry. Switch between the standard CE-2 sound and the CE-1 chorus and vibrato effects, with the flip of a switch. The CE-2W exceeds the capabilities of the original pedals, with stereo output for the CE-2 effects and variable depth for the CE-1 chorus sounds. Add expansive effects to your pedalboard with the BOSS CE-2W Waza Craft pedal!

Nails the 80's Trower era perfectly

By Fingers

The Waza CE-2w nails the Robin Trower sounds he was doing in from 1987 on thru 1990.

I Put a boost before the CE-2w set to S - CE-2 and cranked sounds just like the Live at New Georges bootleg of trower found on youtube.

I owned a original Boss CE-1 when they came out and got rid of it. I really missed that sound and had to have this. Does a great job at doing the Ce-1!

One of the best Chorus Pedals ever

By Brent from El Paso, Texas
Music Background: Guitarist

This pedals has perfect chorus sounds and a variety of tonal options. My only gripe about it is that is boosts your volume slightly in CE1 mode (this is by design because of the nature of the CE1 circuit, just not my preference). Overall, it does everything I wanted it to and more without breaking the bank for an authentic CE1 or a boutique clone.

Gorgeous

By Joel

For me, this is the perfect Chorus sound. Tasteful, lush. It nails the Smiths guitar tone better than any chorus I've played otherwise.

Boss CE 2 WAZA CHORUS

By M from East Coast
Music Background: Arenas all through the 70's

It's a no-brainer that the original Boss C1 Chorus Ensemble has never been surpassed YET!
While the CE 2 Waza is fairly good, it's not even close.
After using this pedal for a while, I got rid of it and started searching for something closer to the original.
The absolue best I've ever seen in 45 years is the Finnish made MAD PROFESSOR ELECTRIC BLUE 2, which sadly is no longer available. That surpassed the original C1 Ensemble!
If however you are looking for that exact sound, then I suggest you look at a faithfull re-creation of it by WARM AUDIO. Thats what I have now, and thats what 'm KEEPING!

Great Chorus

This pedal does everything you need and sounds great! I needed a pedal that took a 9v battery, and this fits the bill! You won't be disappointed.

The title tells it all . Boss has stopped sending manuals . With this pedal you don not need a manual . However , i found a manual on line and you must use this from its own electrical supply source .

Awesome Sauce

By Jonathan C. from Santa Cruz, CA
Music Background: Solo goth artist @ IDENTITY THEORY

One of the many "Secret Sauce" pedals on my board, this Boss Waza pedal is my favorite of all the Boss Chorus pedal varients, i.e: Waza Chorus, Super Chorus, Chorus Ensemble, and the Dimension C (C for Chorus). Specifically: it's the "legendary" CE-1 mode. This is the heaviest chorus effect of all four pedals. I'm running my chorus pedal in mono. It and the vibrato mode give me that strong chorus effect found on most clean-tone goth recordings. It's beautiful as a clean tone, and it sweetens my Boss OD-3 tone as well. Fully satisfied.

It’s the best, nothing comes close

By Gary
Music Background: Semi pro

Yes it's not cheap, but you will not get this chorus sound or even get close to it from anything else.

I had a boss super chorus ch1 before and found it to be far too thin and subtle, I sold it then I got an MXR micro chorus which was excellent but limited in what it did having only a speed control, but it was very good if you just want a no frills chorus. I have plenty of choruses in my Strymon Mobius & in my Helix and although they're are all okay and do the job, nothing can come anywhere close to this Waza chorus.

This is a very special pedal in that it's the exact sound you've heard all over classic albums and hit songs plus the outstanding custom CH1 mode is incredible beautiful thick vibes swirls almost into rotary territory. There are so many useful sounds in this little magic box and you will smile when you hear this. This the best chorus pedal you'll ever buy.

Most delicious chorus ever made

By Mike G. from Overland Park
Music Background: teacher and amateur

I had an Electroharmonix chorus pedal, the one used by Nirvana on "Come As You Are." I liked it, but it wasn't built as well. Always a hum in the background, which was annoying to no end. The Boss is built sturdy and no hum--the sounds lush and favorable. Can't say I'll ever need another chorus pedal, now that I have this one. I love you Craft Waza.

All 'ze best,

Mike

Good chorus

By Jeff R. from Cameron Park, CA

I have owned the Danelectro Cool Cat which I gave away, the Strymon Mobius which has a default chorus patch, the Providence Anadime ADC-4, the Roland JC120 amp, and now this. The Waza CE-2W is cool because of the different modes, and the vibrato mode surprised me and I was impressed. I actually prefer the standard mode (CE2) on this pedal because I don't like too much modulation. For me, the Strymon chorus patch on the Mobius was just too clean sounding. The Danelectro was cool, and I kind of regret giving it away. I would not say it is better than the others, but it has it's own thing going on. I would put the Danelectro over the Mobius, and below the Roland/Boss/Anadime choruses. I like the chorus on the JC120 which I understand is supposed to be the same chorus as the CE1. The anadime chorus definitely has a great vibe, but is less versatile than the CE-2W so It's nice to have both. The JC120 chorus works for the amp in my view probably because of the dual speaker (one wet one dry) design, but for non stereo effects use on a different amp (Victory VS100 Super Sheriff) I prefer the standard mode (CE2) on the CE-2W pedal. To me, the CE1 mode on this pedal just sounds too washed out and overmodulated (and I don't think the JC120 chorus sounds that way), but some dudes love that vibe, so to each their own. If I had to rank my chorus experience, I would say the Anadime and CE-2W are a close tie for first place, followed by the JC120 amp chorus sound, then the Danelectro cool cat, with the Mobius Chorus factory patch sound in last place. I dig the Strymon DIG for delay, just not a huge fan of the default Chorus patch on the Mobius.

I can't add anything original that the other reviewers haven't already mentioned, but this pedal exceeded my expectations. Sounds great and is quiet. I love being able to switch between the three modes. Highly recommended.

Great Chorus Pedal

By Alan Z. from Eagle River, AK
Music Background: Gigging Musician

I am a chorus pedal nut! I love chorus! I have had the Boss CE-1 and CE-2 pedals over the years and when I saw this Waza craft Pedal was available, I had to get it. I really love the versatility you get from this pedal. Sometimes I love the original chorus sounds and I can get it. I also love the new chorus updated sound and I can get that. I believe this is the best sounding Chorus pedal you can buy. Check it out...if you liked the old chorus' from boss, you're going to love this. It's worth the price!

Lackluster

By Peter from California
Music Background: Many years, many applications

I found this pedal to be rather underwhelming. Really disappointing if you are looking for a really lush depth to add to your clean arpeggiated riffs.Sounds really thin at all settings. The only good use I found for it is on CE-1 setting to add subtle texture to high gain leads. What is amazing to me is my zoom MS 70 CDR stomp box easily has at least 5 or 6 chorus options far superior to what the CE-2W offers. And the zoom is not exactly what you would consider a "boutique";pedal. Not my first BOSS product, but will be my last.

better than the original.

By Sweetwater Customer from Raleigh, NC

Quieter, clearer, still sounds unmistakably analog. This is one chorus you can use either before or after dirt and it still sounds great. Less noise than the original. CE-1 mode is a nice option, but prefer the original CE-2 mode.

Awesome Chorus Pedal

By Dan R. from LONGVIEW, TX
Music Background: Beginner Guitarist

I purchased this pedal after reading and watching many reviews and comparisons. The BOSS brand to me represents a quality product at a very reasonable price. The options and range of this unit is unbelievable. Because of those reasons, I went with this chorus pedal. The options to literally switch between versions of the pedals makes this unit a very versatile unit. The range of control is probably more than most people could ever need.

This unit runs off a 9V battery, but can also run off an optional AC power adapter or daisy chained off another 9V pedal if you have the cords to do so. I highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for adding a great and unique sound to their guitar. Boss also makes it extremely easy to register your item for ownership and warranty information on their website.

I would also like to add that I highly recommend Sweetwater for your music related items. They have everything you could imagine and more. They have a great professional sales staff, and in my experiences with Max, my sales rep, he has been great at giving me advise on the equipment and on answering questions. His knowledge is very impressive on everything I have asked about. The best part about Max and Sweetwater, is their sales reps do not try to sell you something, they are truly there to answer your questions and help you. I am getting back into guitars after a 30 year hiatus. I felt extremely uncomfortable when I went into a local guitar store as I felt they were trying to push things onto me that I did not want. That does not happen with Sweetwater.

Almost but still very good

By curtis m. from laguna beach, CA
Music Background: guitar

YMMV.

Overall very good .
I owned mine for 2 years. I discovered that chorus is tricky to get just right. I prefer having the blend knob on my Boss Super Chorus from the 90's for a more subtle effect. The Waza has a nice even sweep in it's modulation ...like a sinewave.

Permanent place on my board

By Yoshi from Orlando, FL

The CE-2w improves greatly on the classic and gives you enough options to tweak your sound. I keep mine permanently on and rare even switch settings as I have it dialed in just right for the sound I like. I've tried other chorus pedals over the year and have always liked the Boss tone and Waza just made it even better.

Wonderful variety of chorus effects

By Bob E. from Idaho
Music Background: classical piano training; guitar training, rock/blues band on-stage experience

I have owned this pedal for a few months. I find that I generally use the CE-1 chorus setting but occasionally find use for the CE-1 vibrato position. I took me awhile to appreciate the standard CE-2 setting, as it is quite subtle, but it too has its place. You can't go wrong with this Boss Waza Craft Chorus Pedal.

What Else Can Be Said?

By James C. from PALM COAST, FL
Music Background: Professional musician

This is the best chorus I've ever owned.
I have the Fender Bubbler, the EHX Small Clone, The MXR M234, and the MXR Uni-Vibe which doubles as a chorus.
The Small Clone is a close second but can not match the CE-2w's versatility. The Small Clone is very similar to the JC chorus tone which is included with this Waza pedal! Until I got the CE-2w I used the Small Clone for Purple Rain.
The M234 comes close to the CE-1 sound and I think I prefer the MXR for things like Boston's clean tone, but after getting the CE-2w that renders the MXR a one-trick pony.
The Bubbler was just hugely disappointing so I gave it to a Fender freak friend of mine.
Anyway, all of my guitars (HSS, HH, SSS) can convincingly recreate De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da and pretty much every other demand I have of it.

Completes my Boss board

By Sweetwater Customer

I have been getting back into my Boss pedals after getting a DD-8 and RV-6 recently. I currently play through a stereo rig consisting of a AC-15 and a tweed Blues Jr. I play ambient and pop/rock. I had a CH-1 for many years that I never bonded with and I wanted to replace it. I have owned many choruses and was having trouble deciding between the DC-2w and CE-2w. I am more of a set it and forget it player and after reading of volume issues with CE-2w I went with the DC-2w. After a year with the DC-2w, I decided to give the CE-2w a try and am blown away, it is heaven in a stompbox. Maybe it is my stereo rig, but the volume increase some players have reported seems part of the way the CE-2w processes the signal, making the chorus effect jump out. I am still getting in to it, but it's a keeper. I hope this helps people decide... get the CE-2w if you like classic liquid chorus. The DC-2w is good too, but I found it limited in my use and not as warm. Just a shout out, the DS-1 on my board has the seeing eye mod by Keeley. It makes the DS-1 much smoother, check it out. One more shout out, I got into my Boss pedals again by watching vids by Perry Frank. He stacks the DD-8 and RV-6. Even if you find ambient boring, you will probably get something from the different effects he stacks.

The Best Chorus

Awesome pedal and saves the hassle of me lugging around a second amp Roland JC

By Sweetwater Customer

So I have a old Roland JC, and know the CE-1 setting well. It's not my main amp though, but love that sound. I rock a Fender type style Botique brand amp. It was either lug two amps around, and more mics. Or…

Grab this pedal and run it in Mono on one amp, for that classic sound! You could also run a second amp as it's stereo as well. But it for the thing it's suppose to very well! The quality seems a lot better than the base series and that shows. The CE-1 first setting is the classic more subtle one most use to add a bit of Chorus. The CE-2 middle introduces some extra high end to the mix. That's the real 80s pop type sound there. The last options gets you a cool vibrato type sound.

But this helped a lot, so I could get that sound in a practice room and not have too much busy stuff going on. It's not a cheap pedal by any means. But it's pretty much a Roland JC sound, and when I want that sound the amp or tgis pedal is all that will do. And I'm not spending money on a real CE-1. If you are reading this and considering this pedal, you know what it does.

Also I found it played great with my Morning Glory pedal. I'm ashame to say I don't use that pedal much, and usually a Microamp with my amp on break up, then medium to high gain. But this pedal is the jam when you push a Blues Breaker or subtle overdrive into it.

King of Chorus & Rotary

By Dagenham D.

I'm very happy with this. Not only does it do Chorus but the CE1 Vibrato mode gives a very realistic Rotary sound, better than my actual Rotary pedal ever did and better than the rotary modes on my other big blue coloured multi modulation pedal. I will never part with this, not ever. It's the best. Had it 2 years now and I am always happy with the range of sounds it can give.

Everything else is a copy. This is the original.

This is the real deal, the definitive dreamy Chorus sound of the 1980s that you'll hear on countless classic albums.

The sound is 100% accurate on both CE1 & CE2 sounds.

SOB Rock in a box.

By Daniel L. from Miami, FL
Music Background: Hobbyist

This pedal just works, plain and simple. One of the best chorus pedals you can buy for guitar. All the modes on this pedal are usable and lush. It can go from subtle and transparent to aggressive if you want. The Waza craft line of pedals also has a wonderful buffer compared to the boss pedals of the past. While it can do so much more, this pedal in standard mode without any tweaking will give you instant "SOB rock tones". It's a bit brighter than the original CE-2, but that has more to do with component drift and the pedal's buffer.

It's The One For Me

By Alexander from MA
Music Background: A Chorus Lover

I've tried like four chorus pedals before this and none of them really worked for me, even if they had some good sounds. This is the one that's staying. Multiple good sounds, super simple, not really any setting sounds bad. Not as customizable as the Walrus Julia but this is just a better sounding chorus to me. My favorite of the three settings is the CE-1, it's just amazing. Plug in a dummy cable into output B while still playing mono and you've got a quirky vibrato pedal with a strange waveform. Sounds really cool. Good headroom for this pedal too which can normally be finicky with analog chorus pedals.

Excellent Chorus Pedal

By Don S. from Meridian, ID
Music Background: 54 years of playing guitar both professionally and for fun

I had an MXR analog chorus that sounded pretty good but when I put it through the effects loop of my Mesa Fillmore 25 it was really noisy. It had to go. Based on the quality of the Boss Waza Craft SD-1 I have, I thought I'd spend a bit more money and get the Waza Craft Chorus. What a huge difference. It is dead quiet through the loop and the wide spectrum of chorus sounds is awesome. I'd highly recommend it!

The Classic Chorus sound you can only get from Boss! Gilmour tone for days!

By JVIOLIN
Music Background: Violinist, Composer, and Multi-Instrumentalist

I've spent a lot of time researching and buying Chorus pedals. I've had the MXR Chorus, the Original CE-1, and even had a PastFX Chorus Ensemble Deluxe which is a clone of the the Original CE-1. I am so glad I found this pedal as it gives me the exact tone I want and vintage vibe I was after. This chorus can get as subtle as you want and isn't overpowering unless you want it to. In regards to comparing this to the original vintage CE-1 and the PastFX Chorus Ensemble Deluxe, which are hundreds more, I honestly prefer this. The only this missing from this unit that is in the vintage CE-1 is the preamp. However, the preamp for me in both the original CE-1 and the clone were nosey and I already had gain in boost to my signal so I did not need to add more. Also, on the older units you can clip and overload the front of the unit and add a bit of distorted sound to the original tone, but to me it wasn't something I was after. So I took a rather long journey and learned about the original CE-1 and the boutique clones, just to arrive here! I don't think you can go wrong with this pedal, and the differences between the vintage ones and this may not be something you even need. For me I didn't need or want the extra preamp that the original one had and this pedal sounds great and doesn't distort or clip. It just adds a really nice chorus tone to your original signal. If you are a Gilmour fan this pedal is a must!

This may be the best pedal I own

By Grey W. from Kansas
Music Background: Student of all trades

Why go through all the trouble to reissue such amazing circuitry and not provide a true bypass. I honestly know some people would argue that the difference can be audible but trust me.. through a Mark V on a core PRS fed by Mogami Platinum…you can hear the difference when the pedal is not being used. This would absolutely be hands down the best chorus on the planet… if it had true bypass.

Great Chorus, the best , the exact 80s sound !

By Ret S.
Music Background: Experienced

My last boss chorus was a digital CH1 but it was too thin, very subtle and very digital sounding. Before that I had a CE3 from the 80s but it had a volume drop and was thin & metallic sounding which was the main problems with all CE3. This CE2w is a great pedal and my favourite sound is the CE1 Chorus mode (the switch center position). It's all analog and it's the real deal, the exact same circuit as the original CE1 and CE2. I love hair metal and 80s hair metal ballads and this sound is exactly that sound as all the guys back then in the mid 80s used either the CE1 or CE2 in the studio all over their classic tunes. If you want to travel back in time to that special magical 80s time then this is the Boss sound that you heard all those years ago.

By Gary from Seattle
Music Background: professional singer/songwriter

I've always loved the chorus sound when playing acoustic----many do not---but this one is the best I've found, and I own all the Boss Chorus pedals(Pink label ones and the more modern ones). It is pricey, but think about it as getting three pedals in one. The sound is lush with distinct highs to balance out....it's worth a listen! A lot of fun for acoustic and electric guitar.

Great chorus. CE1 setting sounds best. It would get 5 stars if it didn't have such a boost in volume - and no volume knob obviously. Doesn't really matter on cleans but with gain the volume boost is significantly noticeable.

Lush Chorus

By Mike from Southern Maine
Music Background: Long time guitarist, part time professional.

I watched several videos on YouTube to try and decide on the best chorus pedal. This pedal was the top choice among both of the guys who were demonstrating the most popular 10 units and myself after hearing them in stereo. Hearing it in person confirms for me that this is the nicest sounding chorus in my opinion. It makes my chords shimmer. I use two amps to maximize the chorus effect.

Boss CE2W

By Jonathan Y. from ME
Music Background: player/ producer/ engineer

As a shoegaze/ dreampop guitar player, I love chorus, and it better be analog. This is the KING of analog chorus. For years I used a Catalinbread Callisto. That's a beautiful analog chorus clearly modelled on the CE1 sound. The new Boss CE2W, which has a toggle for the CE1 setting, is very similar. Both pedals sound rich, musical, and inspiring. I'd say the Callisto is a little brighter and more shimmery, which I love, while the CE2W - in CE 1 mode- has this thicker, low mids push going on that is awesome. If you don't like that thin, icy chorus sound you recall from cheesy 80s stuff, then this is the answer to that. The fast rate settings also do cool, leslie like things. Pedal just rules.

Crispt, Cold, Sterile...it's a boy's tangerine dream come true

By Dennis from NYC
Music Background: Middle-aged and tragically still playing in an alt rock band

Someone in the comments below said that the CE2W had quickly become their favorite pedal--and the same here. I have more powerful pedals, and I have pedals with more knobs and switches that may give you more precision and greater effect, but I just love this one. It's crisp and precise, and despite me calling it cold and sterile, which it is, it still manages to give my overall sound a lushness without sounding like an effect (depending on the setting, of course). But if you want a quivering mass of that 80's chorus-y/trem-y/reverb-y loo-loo-loo-loo effect, it's got that, too.
I don't recall anyone else saying this, but despite the limited controls, this pedal's response to different pick-up selections is astounding. Without touching the pedal, I can go from Andy Summers arpeggios to that "Under the Milky Way" 12-string strum with a flip of the pick-up switch. So there's a versatility here that may not be immediately apparent.
I love the CE2W, and you should, too.

I did my research and decided on this Boss CE-2W as a replacement for my MXR Analog Chorus. After spending 20 minutes with the new pedal I am completely blown away. 3 very distinct and usable choruses on this pedal that mesh extremely well with my overdrive.. giving me that 80s tone I've been craving. This is definitely staying on my board for life.. don't think I'll ever need another chorus pedal.. this is the one.

The CE-1 setting is sooo good!

By Andrew from Denver

This is the only chorus I'll ever need. The CE-1 setting does something to the sound other than just adding chorus. It makes your plucking sound thicker and the chorus sounds deeper in it modulation (without sounding out of tune). All in all I would definitely buy again if god forbid something happened to mine.

Got this about a year ago and use in my pedal board with a variety classic rock band in AZ. Sounds pretty good for songs that require it, but is very bright and adds 5-10 db when engaged which is very noticeable. NOt crazy about the volume boost, Otherwise no problems with noise as in other reviews, butI like a chorus effect on some material but will likely sell this as soon as I can find a replacement (shimmer style) with a warmer tone. Have used older Boss pedals in the past and the WazaCraft option attracted me, but after much use "in the filed" I will be changing it out.

ce2w

By Juro from Antioquia
Music Background: hobbyist

i really wanted to wait with the review..so i bought this pedal like 3months ago now.. im not sure if it is me.. but the S mode.. i. e. ce2..is somewhat underwhelming... very subtle.. i mean.. it is ok.. but i ended up using the ce1 all the time.. not motivated much to switch to the ce2 at all.. the vibe is good.. that is if u like to use it.. i bought it for the chorus and ce1 is really great so i guess it was a good phrchase. also i have thr dunlop univibe with chorus.. the hendrix version from some 5-6years ago.. and it is so much more solid.. but that is subjective.. happy to have both. the only thing that annoys me is the confusing marking of S-CE-1..i mean.. wtf?!!?

Really Nice Pedal!

By Bill T. from Louisiana

All three settings have their place and make this a very usable pedal. I luv the boost on the CE1 side. Not too many features, it's just right for about any type of application you'll want or need. I would recommend this pedal to anyone.

The Chorus sound you're looking for.

By Stephen S. from USA

I have to say after trying a number of different choruses, the Waza Craft Boss is really the sound that you are looking for. The minute I turned it on and slipped it to the CE1 setting, there was The Cure & Siouxsie and the Banshees, U2 and a number of other late 70's into the early 80's sounds. The CE2 is no slouch either, just not as distinctive as the CE1. But either way, they are both right here in the pedal. Worth every penny.

Whoa ! This is the Chorus Pedal/sound you have been looking for........

By Ken from MI

I recently bought this pedal based on reviews on YouTube. I have been looking for a Chorus pedal that does what my ears want to hear and I haven't been 100% satisfied with other Chorus pedals that I have heard/used, until now. The Waza Craft pedals are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for in the case of this pedal. This pedal contains the original legendary CE-1 circuit AND the classic CE-2 circuit. The CE-2 Chorus sounds great and it usable all by itself to get that identifiable 80's Chorus sound which us Gen Xers love. The star of the show is the CE-1 circuit though IMO. The first strum immediately took me back to my Roland JC-120 days (the CE-1 circuit is the same as what was/is used in the JC amps). It is ambient, spongy, thick, big and gooey, exactly what a Chorus pedal should be able to sound like. Of course you can dial it down, but what makes this pedal great is that range and depth capability. There is no volume drop on this analog pedal either like some other "vintage modulation pedals" I have used. I also like pedals that have "built in headroom" and this one does. When you engage it (especially the CE-1) you get a big wave of Chorus/modulation almost like a 3D feel. And that is only running it Mono. I image running it in stereo would sweep you off your feet. Anyways, It enhances and sweetens your sound and doesn't dampen it either. Great pedals sound great on their own without having to boost or eq them. Also nice just having a Rate and Depth control only. That is all this pedal needs. I am replacing a TC Corona Chorus pedal. The Corona pedal definitely sounds good ( I am a huge TC fan and have 6 or 7 of their pedals) but the CE-2W sounds fantastic and to my ears is what I have been looking for in a Chorus pedal forever. If you are looking for a classic Chorus sound/pedal this is the one. Thank you Boss for incorporating both of these circuits in one pedal. I would have paid the same price to get just the CE-1 circuit in a reissue pedal but now I have both classic circuits in one pedal and that is a deal that cannot be passed up.

Fantastic

By JS

This pedal sounds amazing. Both the Ce2 and Ce1 are killer. True analog just beats digital - the warmth you get is just simply better than any digital model i've heard. Combine this with a true analog delay - its something special.

By Rob from Burlington NJ
Music Background: 40 years in the business.

Boss CE-2W

By Tony from Wisconsin

Ordered this and the Walrus Julia to try out. I have to say, both aware fantastic pedals, but the Boss edged the Julia out very slightly. The Boss is just a bit of a cleaner sound, a little less to think about to dial in a great sound (two knobs...all you need), and the bypass switch is dead quiet on the boss, while quite loud on the Julia. Julia definitely wins on design and the ability to tweak the sound more subtlety. Now that I have it on my board, I find myself never wanting to take it off...it"s just that good. You won"t go wrong with this pedal if you"re looking for a great chorus.

Do your review. So many options out there. Find what you like! Like one reviewer said, just two knobs. three different pedals in one is what you are getting.

Just what I needed

By Curt from KC

I had tried many different pedals and I just couldn't get the sound I wanted unless it was a multi effects and I didn't want one of those on my pedal board. All the ones I wanted to try that we're suppose to give me the lush sound was $300 so since the boss CE-2W I could get at almost 1/2 that price was suppose to do that I went for it. It was the sound I was was wanting, especially on Ce-1 mode. Not so bright and tinty like all the other ones I have and tried. Boss makes pretty good products. Still a little pricey but just what I needed

More than just a Chorus Pedal

By Richard from Indianapolis
Music Background: Nearly 40 years playing guitar, sometimes professionally

I believe the fewer the knobs on a foot pedal, the better. I replaced a CE-5 with this one. The CE-2W pedal gives me the chorus sounds I want and the vibrato (roto) is perfect especially if your amp doesn't have that built in like many popular tube reissue amps. Its Boss, its Waza Craft and it is great!

Great Pedal

By Juan C. from Miami, FL
Music Background: Guitar Player

I travel for months at a time, and I take a Baby Taylor (BT-2) with a Fishman Infinity Matrix pickup installed, and a Boss Waza Craft Chorus Pedal. All I need to get what I want when traveling. I can get the Rhythm, and my pedal takes care of the effects I want. Unfortunately, you cannot use the rhythm and effects on the amp at the same time.

Great pedal. Good quality. Great sounds in all three settings. Dumped a TC Corona Chorus to get this. Wasn"t disappointed.

Boss CE-2w

By Thurman S. from Paris, AR

A good chorus pedal and worthy successor to the original CE-2 chorus. It hits many of the high points of the original (I have a 1982 MIJ CE-2 to compare) and even adds to it. The stereo option is very well done and the added CE-1 and vibrato modes make the pedal extremely versatile and fun to use. It recreates that analog, liquid tone that has now become iconic but it sounds more pristine and hi-fi then ever. Whether using it to recreate shimmering hair metal solos or the jingle-jangle of college rock, it's the 80s practically in pedal form.

However, there are some issues. Chorus isn't an effect for everybody. Some players view it as cheesy or overblown. Boss still hasn't altered the design of the controls to add a level feature. It's still the same two knob apparatus it's been for nearly forty years which means the effect can be, at times, overpowering. Also, this practicular pedal is very, very bright sounding and will even color the brightness of the guitar signal when the pedal is not engaged. So, use caution with bright sounding amplifiers or guitars.

Aside from these issues, the pedal is well constructed/virtually indestructible and faithfully revives the renowned Boss chorus ensemble effect that has now become legendary.

A Great Chorus Pedal !!

By Joe C. from Orange County California

I cant say enough good things about Boss pedals.I have been using them since they first came out in the 1970's.I still own many Boss pedals from the 70' and 80's that I purchased back in the day. And they all still work great !! My decision to purchase the Wazacraft CE-2W was that I wanted a great sounding chorus for my pedalboard. The CE-2W does just that.Last year I also purchased the Wazacraft DM--2W delay pedal from Sweetwater and I just love that pedal also.A great match along with my CE-2W on my pedalboard. My affection for Boss pedals is because they are built like Army tanks and sound great. As a working musician I want a product that not only sounds great but will last for many years.Boss really comes through with all that. Thanks to Sweetwater and my sales engineer Chris for making my purchase a pleasant experience.

Failed

By Sweetwater Customer

When I first got this pedal I loved it and then after about I loved this pedal when I received it, but after about100 days it developed this ungodly noise when in use. Removed from pedal board, noise still there. Used battery mode, noise still there. There are discussions on this noise on the net, so I'm not the only person that has experienced this problem.

Good Chorus...Extremely Noisy...

By Nathan H. from TX - Texas
Music Background: Experienced

This pedals supposed to be the ce-2 reborn, it pretty much covers that job. Compared to a very good built in chorus in my acoustic amp, this pedal can get extremely close to that sound. However, this thing is down-right absurdly noisy, as loud if not louder than 60-cycle hum, and I got a second pedal to determine whether I had a defective unit or not. Both pedals had the same, very high noise floor, c'mon boss really?

So, awsome pedal, it's definitely bright compared to other chorus pedals, but it's a good sounding chorus non-the-less. Boss, get yer stuff straight, fix the noise floor, maybe add a bright switch internally.

Same but Different

By R B. from Kennesaw, GA

Back in 1985 I purchased a CE-2 and a Fender Squire Bullet Strat from a music store in Memphis Tennessee. I was 19 and I played that thing to death (the Bullet). I had a 4-track recorder and I used the CE-2 on everything: guitar, down-tuned guitar (for bass), synth, percussion and vocals. I knew everything that chorus pedal could do - left no stone unturned.

I bought the CE-2w as a first step in returning to using pedals and get away from using software effects on my instruments. I plugged in my California Strat and it was 1985 all over again! Wow, I love the sound of this thing! I'm also running my synths thru it too and it's great! And, the CE-1 mode is icing on the cake! I'm going to use the CE-2w on everything - just like I did way back then.

There is, however, a slight difference in the sound of CE-2w vs the CE-2. How do I know this? - I still have all those 4-track recordings from the 80's that I stored on my computer 10 years ago. The old CE-2 is warmer and has a little more drive in the sound. You could even get some flange sounds from the CE-2 if you turn the depth up to max and sweep the rate (evident in my recordings). The CE-2w sounds like a cleaned up CE-2 (not bad at all, just different). Lastly, the CE-2w doesn't flange which is a shame really because the CE-2 had a distinct whine...kind of like Prince's 80's sound.

CE 1 and CE2 in one pedal!!

By `'

C2w is an upgraded version of C2. Same warmth and definition but with stereo option, and CE 1 option. You are getting the sound of CE1 and CE2 in one pedal. Built like a tank. If you are deciding between finding an old CE2 on Ebay or getting this one, stop thinking about it and just get this one. It is going to blow your mind. It will sound like the CE2 and it is new.

Love My Waza Craft Chorus CE-2W

By Tom M. from California

I had a CE-2 when Boss introduced it back in the early 1980s, and I'd still be using it if I hadn't misplaced it. Fast-forward to the new model. I love it. The sound is lush and clear, and the addition of CE-1 features is a nice addition. I'm glad they kept the controls simple and straightforward. It's like I was never without my trusty ol' CE-2.

Pretty nice!

By RAFAEL

I tested it yesterday. I got a fender elite stratocaster 2016 and a Jtm45 with 1960ax cab. I was Blown away by the versatility of this pedal, you can do almost about anything with it, all the configurations are pretty much usable, it's not just for playing nirvana and surf music (as you all know). Im not afraid to say that this is kinda a swiss army knife effects pedal, with pretty simple controls. My amp don't have reverb, and this pedal get even this job done nicely.

Take a look in Youtube videos and know, this is good!

Sounds nice

By Sweetwater Customer

I bought this for the CE-1 original setting and it's nice and warm chorus. Don't know how it compares to the original but it works. However, having owned the one knob, yellow MXR micro-chorus pedal previous to this, I can honestly say you can save yourself $ because it gets pretty much the same sound, assuming like me, you like to find that one sweet spot for classic , thick chorus and don't need to dial in extreme wobble settings and like to 'set it and forget it', which the MXR makes even easier to do because the depth is pre-set.

I bought for the CE-1 modes...

By Robert F. from Potato, Idaho
Music Background: All sorts of places.

Because I wanted the circuit in my vintage JC-50 in a smaller package (and to put in front of other amps), but in particular was worried the vibrato wasn't quite up to snuff versus the old monster.

I was wrong.

The unit is quieter, and I was able to dial in my standard JC vibrato and chorus settings in seconds.

Was even able to get very, very close to my old RE-301 Chorus Echo running it in front of my actual Space Echo with a little work.

Expensive for what it is (especially when the DM-2W is $50 cheaper), but...if you want it for that one thing, doubt there's going to be better.

I am very, very happy

Amazing sound

By JJ
Music Background: Guitar since '96. DAW since '01

Sounds great at all three settings. It's a more traditional Chorus than you'll find on the Stereo Polychorus, but it's smooth and flexible. It sounds as good as my CE-1 plugin from Universal Audio and it's a lot more portable! And it's proudly stamped Made In Japan, so this one is destined to be a classic.

My only wish is for a blend knob so I don't have to use both outputs to balance the sound. otherwise, I'm completely satisfied with it.

Boss CE-2W Waza Craft

By Dan D. from Cherry Hill NJ

I love Chorus Pedals - But it's a trick effect to get correctly - I have a big selection of pedals so I have options. I just recorded some tracks using this pedal - Love It - I got just what I was looking for within minutes. This will be my first call Chorus Pedal. Highly Recommended.

If a Lush Chorus is Your Cup of Tea

By Mark H. from Lamar, MO

Okay so I have to comment on just how high def this chorus pedal is. The quality of sound you get with this pedal is incredibly 3D. Im not one for the chorus effect typically, as I feel it is way too overused. However with that said, can be used quite effectively when generously used. I would have no issues with using this in my board for a band or gig setting at all. The presets are easy to access with this pedal as well, especially in the CE-1 mode. Add a bit of reverb to your chorus and your taken right back to the 80s. Do your self a serious solid and purchase this chorus pedal if in the market for one. The others dont quite match to this one in terms of originality. Im honestly trying to find any issues with this pedal that I can, but so far havent found a single one. The Japanese quality is some of the very best Ive seen next to boutique builders.
