Gibson SG Standard Bass - Ebony Reviews

4-string Electric Bass with Mahogany Body, Mahogany Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, and 2 Humbucking Pickups - Ebony

The short scale length of the Gibson SG Standard Bass solidbody electric bass is perfect for the fat, full thump that made this one of the most prized vintage designs out there. A lot of that warmth is thanks to the mahogany body and neck. The SG Bass is also perfect for any style of gig, thanks to its pair of versatile humbucking pickups. The super-comfortable 30" scale makes playing this bass a breeze. Whether you need a smaller-size bass or want a bass that recalls rock ’n’ roll’s glory days, you should check out the Gibson SG Standard Bass.

Great vintage tone

By Grant Gardner from TACOMA, WA on December 27, 2022 Music Background: I play mostly classic rock and blues. I also play with an acoustic vocal duo that does folk and country.

This bass has the deep thump and vintage tone I was looking for. It is also pretty versatile. You can get something like a jazz bass tone by mixing the pickups. I've always played P-bass style basses, but I quickly got comfortable with the short scale. This bass is very easy to play, and it is very light compared to any P-bass or Jazz bass I've played. It is subject to neck dive, but that has not really bothered me when I'm actually playing rather than looking to demonstrate this well-known design shortcoming.

I was very skeptical of Gibson build quality, but this bass seems very well put together. The fretwork is great and the setup was just right. Overall is has a very high-quality feel to it. It looks great too. The only shortcoming is that the finish seems kind of thick and wavy along the edge of the headstock and around the neck joint.

Gibson craftsmanship is grift

Sounds no better than basses I've played at 1/4 the price. Last night found that the neck pickup is not secured or anchored to anything when I heard a clunking sound coming from it. Removed the cover and found nothing connecting the pickup cover to the pickup and nothing fastening the pickup to the body. They just hold it in place with a piece of foam with cheap glue on it until it is bought. Then as it's a design flaw, there's nothing to warranty.
