Fender American Acoustasonic Jazzmaster Acoustic-electric Guitar - Ocean Turquoise Reviews

Hybrid Acoustic-electric Guitar with Mahogany Body, Spruce Top, Mahogany Neck, and Ebony Fingerboard - Ocean Turquoise

The Jazzmaster, George Fullerton and Leo Fender's unwitting surf and noise-rock icon, makes the perfect platform for Fender's third wave of Acoustasonic hybrid acoustic-electric instruments. Playing out on the weekends? The Acoustasonic Jazzmaster's bridge-position Acoustasonic Shawbucker magnetic pickup packs vine-ripened California cleans and the gnarliest garage rock tones this side of 1991, even without an amp in tow. But toggle positions and roll the Blend knob, and you'll unearth a slew of blissfully sweet acoustic voicings that are perfect for Sunday cafe gigs. The Acoustasonic Jazzmaster's audaciously offset spruce-on-mahogany SIRS body is built to resonate like an acoustic instrument without succumbing to the feedback issues of other stage acoustics. And yet, thanks to a Modern Deep "C" mahogany neck and thinline Jazzmaster body, this hybrid provides effortless electric-like playability up and down the fingerboard. The Acoustasonic Jazzmaster's bleeding-edge 3-pickup system — the Shawbucker humbucker plus a Fishman Matrix undersaddle system and a percussive body sensor pickup — will make you the envy of every Root, Costello, and Mascis in sight. Powering it all is a 20-hour rechargeable battery that supports simultaneous charge and play for nonstop music making wherever you play out.

Simply Awesome

By Todd Fishel from Nineveh, IN on March 13, 2024

I've owned the Acoustasonic Jazzmaster for a couple of months now and have played it at full band shows and acoustic shows. Let me say that this guitar is incredible. I run it through a Line 6 Pod Go processor, straight into the PA, for both acoustic and heavier sounds and it works perfectly for me for the sounds I am needing for a particular song. The tuners that come with the Jazzmaster are great. I have played full sets without the guitar needing retuning. I love this guitar.

Fantastic & Unique!

By Jive from Fitzwilliam NH on November 9, 2022 Music Background: For fun & profit!

Always look for new/unique musical 'tools'. The research on this unique Fender series was very interesting. Always loved my 1970 electric Jazzmaster and this feels the same (minus all the weight). It puts out some great sounding electrified acoustic and humbucker. My gig-mate also uses it and is great at adding rhythmic tapping on a few songs (and the internal mic does a great job for that on setting-3). The form, fit and function are the best. No more feedback issues- a huge plus. For the very thin body, the acoustic sound is really nice. You won't miss the arm-gouging from the fat dreadnought either.

A unique powerhouse

By Storm from Kansas City on July 8, 2022

Equipped with unique and versatile voicings, this guitar gives you the capability to easily cycle between so many different sounds. It is lightweight and the neck is more comfortable than your typical acoustic.
If you get the chance, play one of these guitars.

Great guitar awesome sounds and very versatile to play. Always wanted to try one of these and with the help and direction and great knowledge of Jeff Jent I pulled the trigger and went for it with no regrets.

I love it so much

This is by far the best guitar that I have owned. It is an all in one making this perfect for me. I love all of the settings that it has. I love that it is portable and I can travel with it. It is great to experience such a beautiful guitar. This guitar has a beautiful acoustic and electric sound to it. It sounds even more beautiful through my amplifier. I love that I can glide smoothly through the fretboard. I love the feel and comfort of this guitar, the wood is very smooth behind the neck. I am very pleased with my purchase. Thank you Sweetwater for all of your assistance.

Versatile and fun

It's like owning several
acoustic guitars in one thin and comfortable body .
Sounds amazing with my Spark amp and my acoustasonic amp . Do not understand why we don't get a hard shell case tho .

This Guitar Delivers!

By Joe Iaquinto from Madison, WI on November 19, 2021

I did a lot of research on the Acoustasonic line, which included hands-on assessments of the Tele and Strat, and the Jazzmaster was the winner, hands down. I've recorded with it, used it solely as an acoustic guitar - I give guitar lessons and use it unplugged in my teaching studio - and I finally got to use it on a very eclectic pop/rock/R&B gig. I brought Fender Player Series Stratocaster just in case but it never left the stand. The JM Acoustasonic, thru a Carvin Vintage 16 tube amp, Behringer 7-band EQ, and a Boss Blues Driver (with not too much gain) did the job perfectly. We put a mic on the amp for a bit of ambience and I was totally satisfied with everything. I will, however, continue to explore string gauges, as the 11s that came with it were too heavy and the 10s I swapped for 'em were too light. As always, Sweetwater delivered a product that delivered for me. Two thumbs up!

Two In One

By Sweetwater Customer on September 8, 2021

Love this guitar! I'm able to use one guitar for acoustic and electric songs so I'm not having to switch guitars throughout a set, which helps the set flow better. Going straight through the P.A. System, so no guitar amp to haul...just a few presets in the Neural Quad Cortex pedal to separate rhythm from solos...and the sounds are really good direct from the guitar for acoustic gigs.

So far...it's amazing!

This Guitar Is No Gimmick

By Alessa from Florida on August 24, 2021

I've had this guitar since early August, so I've had time to thoroughly test drive this machine. And what a machine it is. But first I have to give kudos to Sweetwater for their excellent follow through as I had the Jazzy on backorder for months, but they always kept me up to date on the status and shipped it right out after they got it from Fender. And their estimate of when they would get one was spot on. Plus their typical excellent packing and shipping can't be beat. Thanks Alan (my Sweetwater engineer).

I'm a smallish woman who has been struggling with a standard size acoustic guitar and a small body acoustic electric Yamaha. The Yamaha is okay, but the smallish frets are difficult to finger at times. Not so the Jazzy. Generous jumbo frets on the Jazzy's ebony fretboard make it a joy to finger up and down the fretboard. And it stays in tune really well with tight, very playable strings (I think they are 11's that come with the guitar).

I was unsure how I would like the rechargeable battery thingy, and I was really disturbed when I drained it in only two days (about 5 hours of play time). But I realized that I couldn't leave the cord plugged in because that's the switch for the battery. After I learned to unplug it, it does last over 20 hours of play time. Still, I would rather see Fender have a quick swappable battery arrangement than the current setup. Strangely, the guitar does not come with a charging power supply. It does come with a nice long cord, but you have to get your own power do-hicky. I thought that was odd. But most of us have them for our cell phones so I guess they figured we didn't need it? I dunno.

The fit and finish on Jazzy is outstanding. Made in the custom shop, each guitar is unique. Mine weighs 6.45 pounds. I was surprised by how light and nimble it feels. I love running my hands over the rounded sides to feel the grain of the mahogany body. However, I am not a fan of those giant black panels on the back of the guitar body. Of course they have to be there for access to the electronics and battery, but they are jarring against the beautiful wood grain of the mahogany body. If they ever make after market panels that more closely match the body, I'm all in. Other than that, this is a well crafted guitar made with quality materials.

I was worried that the guitar might be too big for me - that I would have to reach to hit the basic open chords near the nut, but the way it sits on my lap is such that it feels right in my hands, and everything is in reach. I love that! It looks so big, but feels so small. And the C Shape neck is also a great fit for me. I've included pictures of it next to my Strat, Telle, and Yamaha acoustic. You can see that the neck seems higher, but not when you play it. Fits like a glove.

I have a few different amps (Fender Acoustic Junior Go, GTX Mustang, and Deluxe Reverb) It sounds great on all of them, and I have still to pick a favorite. I use the acoustic amp when playing at church. It's more bassy than the other amps but sounds great when plugged into their PA system. The Mustang has an unlimited number of sounds, and is a riot to play through. The Deluxe Reverb? Well, it's a Deluxe Reverb. Of course it sounds AWESOME. The combination of sounds the Jazzy has available are simply wonderful. I can sweetly play Psalm 34: The Cry Of The Poor on settings 1, 2, or 3 and switch to settings 4 or 5 and jam on Tom Petty's Refugee or Joan Jett's I Love Rock and Roll, and they sound Boss! The controls are simple and straight forward, and work well. Although it did take me awhile to figure out A from B on the blend knob as there are no labels to mar the cool look of its face.

Finally, it comes with a really sturdy gig bag, better then many you see out there. I am so happy with this guitar. I do play it unplugged at times when practicing at home, but it is not a $4,000+ acoustic slope shoulder. So it doesn't project broadly or sound as good unplugged. This is a hybrid, but done so expertly, that you will be astonished at how beautiful it sounds, and how versatile it is to play. To sum up, if you're in the market for a versatile, quality acoustic electric instrument that can closely duplicate different voicings of other high end acoustic guitars and also perform as an amazing electric, this guitar will not disappoint.

Fantastic Innovative Guitar

By Jason Long from OH on August 8, 2021

The Acoustasonic Jazzmaster is a fantastic guitar that you just need to try to hear what it's all about. This thing sounds fantastic no matter what I plug it into, a PA system, regular electric amp, it even sounds good not plugged as an acoustic instrument.

The neck feels just like an acoustic guitar should, but the guitar itself is super light. The variety of sounds it can produce is really impressive, combining this with a looper pedal, I can get good percussive loops by using the body sensor to play along with. From the acoustic sounds to the overdriven electric, I can't get enough of this thig. Extremely satisfied with this purchase. It absolutely sounds like an acoustic guitar when played through a regular amp.

The case it come in is also really nice, it like a hard shelled soft backpack case. The only thing I'm not used to is having to charge the guitar via the USB port, but the battery lasts a really long time so it's not even an issue.

Great Sounds

By Jim Travis from Virginia on April 21, 2021

This is first guitar with real acoustic guitar modeled sounds. I've tried them all - Taylor T5, the mid 2000s fender strat with emulated acoustic, the JTV LINE 6, a could of off board emulators, and the Fishman piezo loaded bridge. They did not even remotely sound like a real acoustic guitar.

The tree electric guitar sounds are great - and the distorted piezo and the Shawbucker humbucker provides unique and highly listenable tones.

Because of this guitar, I will be selling several of my old guitars - just don't need them anymore.
