This module teems with signature API sound, courtesy of 2510 and 2520 discrete op-amps, and it includes 31-position detented controls for easy repeatability. The 527A offers both feed-forward and feedback compression, hard- and soft-knee compression, and API's patented Thrust function for frequency-dependent sidechain control. You can also link two 527A modules together for effortless stereo operation.

API brings the spank
I vacillated between the API 527A and the RND 543 for some clean-ish VCA compression. I've owned both, so I knew that either would do just fine for me. I chose the API because of the clarity it tends to bring at all ratios.
I like to use a high ratio and a slow attack to get a compressed/non-compressed sound. It's just cool.
Negatives? Well, I don't need two kinds of Bypass; that's a little silly for a box with little or no "boxtone." The Thrust feature is hit-or-miss, of course.
People use the word "punchy" to describe the API sound. To me, it's bringing some spank and bark - loud and clear.
Premium quality compression
I just bought a pair of these, but the reason i did was because i already had a pair built into my API BOX console, and i love them and wanted more.
i find them intuitive to use. Everything about their sound is rich and beautiful sounding. The top end sparkles in acoustic guitar, the low end punches but with great depth for things like kick and bass, and they're very comfortable running on a mix bus too.
