12-string Acoustic-electric with Spruce Top, Sapele Back and Sides, and Okoume Neck with Purpleheart Fingerboard - Black

Reimagining their popular AEG line, Ibanez is pleased to offer the improved AEG5012. Featuring the same slimmer body depth design of past AEG offerings, the AEG5012 is an ideal performance acoustic. A spruce top with sapele back and sides provide for rich, full tone. With this updated model, Ibanez has also added an okoume neck along with a purpleheart fingerboard for improved playability all around. And when you are ready to plug in, an Ibanez T-Bar II undersaddle and AEQ-TTS preamp kick out beautifully articulate amplified tone. Finally, for players who like to traverse the neck, the AEG5012 features a smooth, deep cutaway for easy access to those higher notes.

The best gift ever

By Kevin Hall from Kentucky on May 10, 2023 Music Background: Long time musician

My daughter surprised me with this guitar after purchasing from Sweetwater. I must say it is a joy to play. The sound is remarkable! The set up was previously done by Sweetwater, all I had to do was tune it. It is a great addition to my collection.

Ibanez Acoustic Electric 12-string guitar

By Bill Keesler from Georgia on February 12, 2022 Music Background: Intermediate Player

What a great buy! I am beyond pleased with this guitar, but more impressed with the quality assurance from Sweetwater! Because of the type of guitar, and accounting on the unsure humidity during shipping, I found a sticker warning me to allow a little more time after arrival to allow for the balance, so as not to warp or distort the wood. Once I opened it up, I strummed an full G chord to just hear it. It was in tune (most are not), and sounded amazing!! No string buzz anywhere on the fretboard, the controls were even better than I thought they would be because of the price. Such a great experience all the way around! The engineer, Nick Hammer, was in regular contact, throughout, to make sure all my expectations were fulfilled. You don't find customer service like this anymore. I plan to purchase from Sweetwater in the future for all my future music gear needs.

Another Quality Product from Ibanez and Sweetwater

By John Latiolais from Houston, Tx. on January 17, 2022 Music Background: seasoned player

I was in need(want?) of a 12 string guitar, to replace one I had sold earlier. I saw this model at Sweetwater's site. It is a demo. I have always had good fortune buying from Sweetwater, including demos, so I bought this one.

And I'm really glad I did! I own two other Ibanez guitars; one acoustic dreadnought, and an electric. I am well satisfied with both, so It was easy to trust that this guitar would also live up to my expectations.

It is a top quality instrument, in build quality, playability, and tone.

Also, the techs at Sweetwater did an excellent job inspecting it and setting it up.

All in all; this is worth more than the retail price.

Excellent 12 string for the price!

By Jeremy Graeff on March 12, 2022

This is an excellent choice for a less expensive 12 string. Nice neck, good tone that cuts through a mix, and stays in tune well (which is what I expect from Ibanez). I haven't experimented with the electronics as much, but they seem pretty solid. The on-board tuner is handy and the electronics console is fairly unobtrusive. I would recommend this guitar!

Great for the money

By Jeffry Siewert from Kernersville, NC on November 18, 2021

This is a great 12 string guitar for the price. Typical of Ibanez guitars, the neck plays great. The action is fast and very easy to play. The neck does seem a bit heavy, which some may find this to make the guitar feel unbalanced. Without taking the guitar apart, I imagine the neck has extra reinforcement to compensate for the extra tension of 12 strings vs 6.
The tuner works very well. The pickup system sounds fantastic. Although it doesn't have much in the way of tone control, it does do a good job of shaping the tone that I am looking for. The unplugged sound is where the guitar may fall short, depending on what the individual player looks for. The guitar has a shallower body than some acoustic guitars, so it doesn't have a lot of depth. However, it doesn't sound thin or "tinny." It does have a full tone, just a bit brighter. 12 string guitars tend to be brighter anyway.

I was wanting a 12 string guitar, but couldn't justify spending a lot for a 12 string guitar since I probably wouldn't use it nearly as much as my 6 string. This guitar works great to add a 12 string sound to any music. It is well worth the money.

Good overall

By James Anderson from Tampa, FL on January 24, 2024

This is a good overall guitar. The action is really nice. The cutaway is great and the tuner works well. The only problem is some noticeable fret buzz on the low E. I'm wondering if that can be fixed without sacrificing action. That's the only complaint I have about this guitar right now. It's not gonna have a big bass boomy sound as a full size guitar would have, but that is expected.

Good guitar with a few weird construction issues

By Bob A Ganoush from Georgia on December 30, 2021

This is a good (not great) guitar for the money. I purchased this guitar for one of my kids. The size, balance and weight are excellent. The action right out of the box was high, expect to spend some money on a setup. I know that Sweetwater does a quality check on their guitars- I wish they would have spent a few minutes on adjusting the neck on this axe. My luthier also had to shave the bridge to make this guitar playable below the 5th fret. What is truly weird is how you have to loosen 4 screws to replace the battery on the electronics - really? In 2021 they could not have come up with a better design for this?
If you expect to get the most volume and tone out of this guitar the strings that it ships with are not gonna get you there. I had my luthier install D'Addario NYXL's (it is WELL worth the money), with good strings this guitar comes alive! I love the shape of the neck, my son commented that he has room to get in there and play chords and do single note runs. I also spent $ on a good Ibanez case.

Great Small 12

By Miles Stoneman from HORSE CAVE, KY on August 7, 2023 Music Background: Solo Acoustic Musician

I bought this as a little brother to my jumbo Guild 12-string. I can't play the jumbo sitting down - just too big. The smaller body of this makes it excellent if you play plugged in. The acoustic sound is cheap and thin. But, of course, I'm comparing it to my Guild big body guitar. The electronics are adequate and the onboard tuner is a nice touch; seems to be accurate. The set up out of the box is poor. But gratefully it comes with an additional saddle, so if I mess up sanding it down to adjust the action, there's a backup. The tuners seem to hold tune well, but they are also small. The neck is a little short, which I like, but it makes the frets a little small, too. Overall, it's worth the money.
