FAQ

What is a Plek machine, exactly?

A Plek Pro is a computer-guided tool that scans your fretboard under real string tension, then machines the frets and nut with microscopic precision. After that, a trained tech finishes the setup by hand for a dialed-in feel across the entire neck.

Is a Plek setup better than a traditional setup?

Yes. Traditional setups are done by eye and feel. Plek adds a layer of data-driven accuracy that fixes issues you may not even realize are there—like uneven frets or poor nut slots—then pairs it with human finesse.

Should I Plek a brand-new guitar?

Absolutely. Even top-tier guitars benefit from a Plek. You’ll notice smoother bends, better tuning stability, and more consistent tone from fret 1 to 22.

Does a Plek replace a regular setup?

Not exactly—it enhances it. You still get a personalized setup from a Sweetwater tech, but with added precision thanks to the Plek’s digital scanning and machining process.

Can I Plek a guitar I already own?

Yes. We offer standalone Plek services for your current guitars, not just new ones purchased through Sweetwater. Talk to your Sales Engineer to schedule one.

Does a Plek setup include new strings?

You’ll choose your preferred string brand and gauge when adding a Plek setup to your order. The strings themselves are sold separately.

Can I customize the setup or nut?

Definitely. You can add a custom nut material (like bone or TUSQ), change string gauges, or request specific action preferences. Just ask your Sales Engineer for help.
