Ed Nystrom
Ed Nystrom
I am a musician with a passion for helping my clients make and enjoy music. I cut my teeth on live performance. While I started as a guitarist gigging throughout central Illinois, I quickly realized that I wouldn’t be a rock star. I decided to pursue music in another direction. I started working as a stagehand and quickly advanced to running the show. After running sound and lights for a few years, I grew tired of the odd hours and travel demands. I got into retail and learned quickly that all my experience made me invaluable to the musicians I was dealing with. After 13 years of brick-and-mortar retail, I joined Sweetwater. Now, I get to enjoy the benefits of having a fantastic professional team beside me while I work in an environment where my customers’ needs are always paramount.
As your personal contact here at Sweetwater, please let me know anytime I can offer help or advice.

St. Charles, IL, a NW suburb of Chicago
-
Why did you first apply for a job at Sweetwater?
Their focus on customer service resonated with me. It felt like an extension of the principles that I followed in my 13 years in music retail without any of the limitations that I faced in a small-market store.
-
Technical strengths:
I am a guitar player and love helping customers build their dream rigs. I also spent years running sound for live performances and engineering recording sessions. I feel I can assist in any music-related situation.
-
Family info:
I am married to a wonderful woman who shares my passion for music, and we have a few dogs and a cat to keep us busy.
-
Other stuff we should know about you (hobbies, talents, interests, etc.):
I enjoy frisbee golf when the weather permits. I love live music; most of our vacations or road trips revolve around a concert or festival.
-
Real-life hero:
Jeff Beck has a tone that always blows my mind. I’d love to have a unique sound that can be recognized with one note.
-
Guilty pleasure of choice:
A nice dark beer after work always brings the day’s challenges into perspective.
-
What do you enjoy most about being part of the Sweetwater team?
I love the fact that I’m surrounded by people who are passionate about music and want to take care of their customers. Everyone here is a gear nerd, just like me.
-
Who are some of the notable artists you've worked with?
I’ve run monitors for Moe, Leftover Salmon, and Jazz Mandolin Project; run lighting rigs for Cheap Trick and 38 Special; and did a live multitrack for Umphrey’s McGee.

Ed Nystrom is a great Rep. Anytime I have questions or am not sure what equipment I need, he gets me answers and options. Plus he treats a $5.00 purchase from me the same as he treats a $500.00 purchase! Always trying to make sure it's the right thing I need and I'm happy with it!
