Derek Spaulding
I’ve been in a band setting for over half my life and can’t remember the days before playing music. Joining a few of my school friends, Tree was formed in 2005, which changed my life for the better. The electric guitar has always been my first love, but as the years pass, I’ve enjoyed learning drums, acoustic techniques, and mandolin. A few bands and countless gigs later, I’m now taking a break to explore the lap steel and old country music with a friend while sharing album favorites and learning new skills. The band I was with the longest, Mama, was a group of Columbus-based musicians who played rock ’n’ roll at many venues around Ohio. I helped write lead roles and compositions of all our songs and take pride in our accomplishments in the five years we were together. During most of my time in Mama and for many years following, I cut my teeth in music retail. On a daily basis, I helped solve problems for people, guided them in the direction of new and exciting gear, and helped them bring their dreams to life.
I consider myself an audiophile and love talking about bands that have influenced my playing. I am confident in my knowledge of the historical, cultural, and technical aspects of guitars, amps, pedals, and music accessories. I have worked on all of my guitars, whether it be a simple setup, wood repair, or heavy modification, and have completed paid work for many friends for years. I’ve learned quite a bit about drums and other instruments, as well as pro audio, through my music-retail work experience and personal learning. But, as with any musician, I am eager and willing to learn more about any aspect of the music world. I have my mind set on getting a vintage pedal steel in the future, but I know that, as I am exposed to new bands and music, I may change my mind. I don’t know if a musician is ever satisfied with just the gear they have, but — at least for me — I always want more!

Instruments you play:
Guitar, both acoustic and electric. Six-string lap steel; I dabble in pedal steel, as well. Mandolin and bass. I do play a little bit of drums, but stringed instruments are my strong suit.

Other stuff we should know about you (hobbies, talents, interests, etc.):
Music is definitely my main interest. As of the past 2-3 years, I have found a love for watches. There’s a real beauty not only in the external design but also in the mechanical nature of the movements inside. Knife sharpening is another art I find to be relaxing and extremely rewarding.

I was searching for guitars, amps, the works; and knew nothing. It was overwhelming. Derek was a great help in narrowing down the possibilities to what I needed. He had good insight into what I liked after talking to me and has continued to answer my questions after I received the gear. Well done!

Absolutely amazed by the personal service on our order! It is obvious customer satisfaction is a priority. Your company would be the first place we would look for music related items. Great prices, great service and BTW, even the little touch of adding some candy made my kids very pleased! Thank you!

I have to say it's the most personal order I've ever made from the pre-ship phone call, to the email, and finally the candy in the box. Thanks! I don't think I could beat the customer service even in a local shop
