Dave Cody
Playing bass for over 40 years, I have always been passionate about music. I always say I didn’t choose the bass, but the bass chose me.
On my 10th birthday, I received a Silvertone J Bass copy and an LP of Rush’s Moving Pictures, and life was never the same. I think it started with a busted tuner gear and not being able to afford the $28 that my local guitar repair wanted to charge that got me repairing and later modifying my bass. By the time I was in high school, I heard Jaco, and then the frets were pulled. Stuart Hamm, and I squeezed a P pickup between the J pickups. Not long after that, the plywood body just gave up, so I carved one out of cherry. Then I went on a quest to own every “Important Bass” in the history of the instrument; I’d guess I have owned more than 250 basses, guitars, and countless other instruments. It started with bass, guitar followed, and later came drums, live sound, and eventually recording.
Eventually, I started a part-time business out of my garage, my now-closed Cody Electric Instruments company.
I’m still very passionate about music and the tools that help us create it. I want to help my customers navigate a more direct path to where music will lead them.

Dave Cody was a tremendous help to me when making my purchase. I also had the Fender Tele set up at Sweetwater and it plays like a dream.

I had a very minor concern that was addressed expertly and professionally within 24 hrs. I have nothing but praise for Dave Cody. I am old and slow, and he is kind and caring. And….knowledgeable, patient, reliable, and good natured. Your tech support is prompt and reassuring. Thanks to Arika and Kyle for your help. Sweetwater’s staff represents your company very well and should remain a source of pride.

I have never had a more personable buying experience with ANY other company than Sweetwater, and not just this time, but EVERY TIME I make a purchase through Sweetwater! Dave Cody has called me several times over the years, NOT to try to sell me something, but to make I'm getting what I want and need. These guys are fantastic to deal with and NO DOUBT, the owner has to be proud of the business he has built and with the employees he has built it with! I will always use Sweetwater for my musical needs.

I picked up my guitar a little while ago. It arrived in perfect condition. It sounds good and I like all the tone options. I did some adjustments and have it playing pretty nice. Some of the frets are a little rough and could use some dressing up. But at this price point it’s extremely nice! I have plenty of really nice Gibson LPs and others, all vintage, beyond 50 years and they are ridiculously heavy!!! This Epi is perfect in weight and I love the upper cutaway. The body resonates really well and is pretty loud without an amp. The finish is surprisingly nice! Great hardware as well. It’s a great value and absolutely worth putting a few bucks into it. I’ll end up with a really nice instrument at a quarter of the cost of a Gibson. Or a 20th of the cost of a vintage one! Over all I’m very happy with this purchase. I truly appreciate the time you took with me and helped make it a comfortable experience. I’ve never bought a guitar without playing it so at this, I’m a newbie! I guess this is how the future looks though. I will absolutely continue this relationship with you and Sweetwater as it was a very pleasurable experience! Thank you Dave! Hope to talk again soon!
