Celebrate 60 Years of Takamine

Time flies when you’re making exceptional guitars, and this year Takamine reels in their 60th anniversary! Celebrate six decades of supreme craftsmanship that forged Takamine as we know it today with "The 60th" 60th Anniversary LTD acoustic-electric guitar. This special instrument features stunningly solid, highly figured Hawaiian koa on the top, back, and sides, combining with a unique ebony and spruce 3-piece bracing for incredible resonance and sustain — driving home the point that this isn’t just a showroom piece! On the fingerboard and neck you’ll find hand-selected cuts of ebony and mahogany. The rich voicing of this guitar comes courtesy of master luthiers Noriharu Sakurai and Toru Hirokawa, who have leveraged decades’ worth of experience into every detail. A shinning, real-diamond inlay adorns the headstock as the dot in the “I,” a fitting capstone on this graceful instrument.

Shine bright like a Takamine

You might want to wear a pair of sunglasses when you see "The 60th" for the first time. Not only does it feature a real diamond inlay on the headstock and hand-inlaid abalone purfling, its solid Hawaiian koa body is also finished with an ultra-thin, high gloss that allows notes to vibrate brightly with unrestrained resonance. The Hawaiian koa of its body takes the shape of an early Takamine design, featuring a classical body adapted to an X-braced concert steel string plus a cutaway. The bracing — hand shaped and shaved by master luthiers Noriharu Sakurai and Toru Hirokawa — encompasses a 3-piece design of ebony sandwiched with spruce and reduces weight by more than 20 percent. Combined with its koa body, this guitar outputs tone with incredible vibration sensitivity and rich vibrancy.

Plug in for breathtaking electric sound

This Takamine sounds incredible when played acoustically, with notes ringing out in delightful warm resonance with the perfect amount of accompanying sustain and vibrancy. But plug in with Takamine’s CTF-2N preamplifier, and you’ll find its acoustic sound reproduced electrically with all the warm, dynamic sound you could ask for. This preamp takes notes from one of Takamine’s early FET preamp models, affectionately known as the “Brownie.” This preamp will offer you a 2-band EQ, quick and easy battery access, a chromatic tuner, and lastly, a notch filter.

A very special acoustic-electric guitar

Takamine has come a long way since 1962, where they first started out as a family-run instrument shop under the shadow of their namesake, Takamine mountain. Now they boast some of the best master luthiers in the business and "The 60th" 60th Anniversary LTD acoustic-electric shows off their skill with shinning brilliance — in the sound, the craftsmanship, and not least so, with the hand-inlaid diamond inlay. This striking guitar comes with its own hard case as well as a commemorative Takamine 60th anniversary key fob. With only 60 made and in circulation worldwide, don’t debate too long about scooping up a certified piece of Takamine history and one of the most gorgeous guitars to come through Sweetwater’s doors.
