Alex McKinney
Hi, I’m Alex. I’ve been a guitar player since I was a kid and have been involved in live music production for a number of years. My background has been mostly performing and running services at many large churches in Indiana and Chicago, and I’ve had lots of experience with all the gear involved in making live sound happen.
I’ve been a guitar nerd ever since I started playing, and I’ve owned more pedals than I care to admit. I’m a big fan of post-rock, post-hardcore, and shoegaze, so I love checking out new gear whenever I can and creating exciting, new soundscapes.
As a musician, I know that gear is more than just hardware; it’s the tool you use to create your art! Whether it’s instruments, recording, or lighting, it’s all a unique form of expression. I love getting to spend every day helping people get the right tools in their armada so that they can create something that is unique to them.
As your personal contact here at Sweetwater, please let me know anytime I can offer help or advice.

Other stuff we should know about you (hobbies, talents, interests, etc.):
I am obsessed with frogs. I have six of them, and I spend a lot of free time building stuff for their cages and taking care of them. I also have 2 cats Lady Tsunade and Aragorn.
I’m super into film photography! -
Real-life hero:
Definitely my mom. When I was only two, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and she had to learn how to take care of me while being a new mother. She learned everything she possibly could to take care of me and even went on to be a diabetes educator to help take care of other diabetics, as well. Her devotion to me and to serving others inspires me to go all the way to do the same thing for those around me, as well.

What in your background prepared you most to help your customers with their audio needs?
My time spent at a Hillsong family church in Chicago. I got to work with some of the best musicians I’ve ever met and get hands-on experience with top-tier production equipment. Everything from LED walls to Dante, live service streaming, and video production, I got to do it all. I know how important it is to have the right gear for the job because I also know what happens when you don’t.
