Excellent & Versatile EQ

By Stephen from Saratoga NY
Music Background: Guitar, Bass, Synth, Mellotron

I am extremely impressed & pleased with the xfilter qube. Being able to change the HF & LF from shelf to cut with resonance is convenient and sounds great. The high & low middle gives you the ability to locate and remove problematic frequencies or boosts adding more presence. You can also change the Q from wide to narrow so you do not have to guess about incremental changes. The xfilter has greatly improved my tracks... a most have if you record primarily using DI. Great piece of gear...

Amazingly smooth, does what I had hoped.

By Shane
Music Background: 30+yrs drummer

Got the elysia xfilter installed and tested. Fwiw, they claim their cube cant be used with other 3rd party modules. I dont know if they are covering their asses, or i their lite qube is actually wired oddly. It can't be much different, but I didnt bother to test the theory. The qube is pretty nice anyhow, and may as well leave it standalone, to make it easier to adjust while sitting centered between monitors. I'm excited to say the xfilter is working for both tasks I had hoped. I have tried it on a mix bus and it is a very nice and tranparent eq that smooths things out with some dimension. Now for where the REAL intent was. I tried it on the vocal chain 992eg>Xfilter>la2a>Mc77>Qu-16 and it did exactly as I hoped, first guess. A little roll off at 100hz with a bump around 300hz and 4khz, hi-shelf at 10k. It brings focus and clarity to my baritone voice, but you can't tell its been eq'd. Its allowing my la2a to work better with less lows and the sheen sounds simply like a little brighter mic. On my Senheiser desk mic (dynamic), it seemed to bring me a little closer to how I sound with my bigger tube condensor mics. So I call it a success so far. Used during tracking, I didnt have to touch post eq or compression on vocals. The noise floor is not worth mention, it seems quiet. Having power button on the back is nice and dual connections for both channels is nice (like my radial cube). Rubber rails along the bottom are a good touch. I have no idea what the impedence is doing nor do I care. I've about given up worrying about impedence and am focusing on levels and results by ear now, anyhow. I can be a bit picky and expect a bit much at times. Honestly, the Xfilter is doing what I had hoped for, and the pots are a good feel/detent. As long as the quality lasts and the company stays around for service should a person need, I'd call this a total win. Pretty much like the best smooth eq plugin you can find x5. I do wish the light on the front was a little more dim, but tis nothing some window tint cant fix.
