sE Electronics sE2200 Large-diaphragm Condenser Microphone
sE Electronics sE2200 Large-diaphragm Condenser Microphone Reviews
The sE Electronics sE2200 is the latest update of the company's venerable large-diaphragm cardioid condenser mic — and, thanks to its discrete Class A components, it sounds incredible. It delivers the same stunning, up-front sound and full feature set that made the original version such a huge hit. This is an incredibly versatile microphone, equally at home in front of a guitar cabinet as it is over a drum kit. And if you're looking for that first truly special vocal mic, the sE2200 is an excellent choice. At Sweetwater, we know value when we hear it. The sE Electronics sE2200 is a no-brainer addition to your mic locker.
Great Mic!
I've been talking with my sales engineer, Bill Sears, for a while now and I think we've nailed my home studio setup. The SE sE2200 rounds out my mic collection for recording (Shure SM58, Shure Beta SM57A, Lewitt 440 Pure and a pair of SE sE7's for stereo). Small setup but the bases are covered. Bill walked me through all my options to include DAW, interface, plugins, monitors, MIDI Controller, etc. and it's now dialed.
Incredible Value
This is my favorite microphone. I have several that are much more expensive. But this has a remarkable quality, that is present without being harsh. I've been really pleased with it.
This is an outstanding mic at an inexpensive price
I had been using the Shure 58's I use when playing live because they don't pick up everything. The cardioid pattern of the e2200 allows me to stand in front of it and play my acoustic guitar or sing and I have plenty of sound input and a high-to-low range for processing in Cubase. I was recording a song with the new mic and stopped to figure out what I was hearing. I'm at my desk in the living room and I was picking up the "advertised to be quiet" dishwasher thru the dining room from the other end of the kitchen. I'm especially pleased I got this mic during a holiday sale so the purchase was even better. Thanks Devlin.
Very Nice Mic
I'm pleased with this purchase. I use it to record sax and it does a great job.
Not a singer but makes me sound great!
I love this mic, It looks good and sounds amazing especially for the price. I got the other color that is now discontinued for $ which to me is a steal. It is build like a tank and feels heavy / expensive. Everyone that sees it in my studio thinks its some $ mic. I run it through my ART mic preamp and use some UAD Spark plugins and it makes me feel like a professional. Highly recommended.
great mic for a great price
super clean and super quiet
At the price point, punches well above its weight.
Went well with my Golden Age Ribbon, Octavas, and modern Sennheiser/Telefunkens. I was missing a decent large diaphragm condenser - I had an ADEQUATE one, but wanted something that made me happy like the rest of my toys.
Rolled the dice on a demo model - Sweetwater took care of everything (was missing the adapter on the shock mount), and got it all out to me promptly.
Fired it all up, was happy from the getgo.
Articulate, not harsh, captures the room well and just makes it sound..good.
Low self noise, doesn't need to be hammered hard with gain
Included pop filter on the shockmount is a plus, even though I'll likely ever need it.
It's just nice to have around!
All in all no complaints at all.
Great all-around budget mic
I try to keep the signal path simple as possible. For the time being, it goes as follows;
mic > Scarlett 2nd Gen 6i6 > PC running StudioOne 5 Pro
I haven't used it on any sources other than vocals at the moment, so I can't comment on its uses.
I will say that the singer I typically record with will bring his Neumann U 87 for vocals.
Obviously, the sE can't compare with it, but I'm going to experiment with placing both mics in front of the singer and using them simultaneously.
When he is absent (and takes his U 87 home with him), I will use the sE for my own backing vocals and voiceover work.
LOVE THIS MIC!
I was using this in another studios, and had to get one for myself. Great on vocals, acoustic guitar, any acoustic instrument really. I can't say enough about how nice this mic is.
sE2200
A vocal mic like this was a goal for my studio gear. Also giving my Sweetwater associate 5 stars!
sE2200 Great
So far only used for music over Zoom but the improvement in sound quality is fantastic. Both a Sweetwater tech guy and my sale's rep said for the money (and my general usage) this was the best out there. I've got a half dozen older mics and this blows them all away.
A Great Choice!
This is a solid microphone. There isn't much magical to say about it, it just does what it does!
If you're looking for a cardioid condenser microphone, this does the job. It sounds great without getting in the way and takes EQ very well.
Where a lot of microphones in the price range often sound harsh, the sE2200 manages to be bright and airy without fully stepping over that line.
Whoa!!!
Originally I was in the market for a much more expensive mic $1000+ range. I was looking for an upgrade over my Shure sm7 and this mic was not on my radar until I listened to the sweetwater mic shootout through a pair of KRK ROKIT 5 G3 5" and we narrowed it down to two mics. The Neumann U87 and this bad boy there are areas when the U87 outshines the sE Electronics sE2200 but for the price and dynamics this mic is a no brainer for us to go with this. We did not think the Neumann was worth 10 times the price based off our ears but branding and a famous musical history cost more. I was hesitant to buy this mic because of the price but I'm genuinely thrilled with what we got!
Best Mic Under $500
When I first picked up this microphone, I hooked it up to my Focusrite 2i4 at home and was quickly surprised at how smooth and even it sounded for a $300 mic. When I got it to the studio through a Neve 1073, I was blown away! Paired with a good preamp, the sE2200 is amazingly transparent and free of the overly hyped high-end usually associated with mics in this price range. The sE2200 also takes very well to EQ and dialing a solid tone is a breeze. With the adding bonus of a shock mount and a pop filter, the value is simple awesome!
I highly recommend the sE2200 if you're looking for Mic under $500
Does The Job
I was looking for a back- up mic to my voiceover studio and the sE2200 is perfect. Delivers good sound and tone through my Focusrite pre-amp. Solid construction gives it some weight and stability in the mic stand and the firm, multi-position high and low cut-off switches allow you to adapt for various instruments or pick-up intensities. I wasn"t "blown away" by anything, hence 4 and not 5 stars, but it is now my primary studio mic.
Very nice addition to my mic case
I received the microphone 3 days after ordering it. I recorded Sax and vocal tracks and compared them to tracks previously recorded with another mic, this mic was exactly what I was needing to complete my current project. Thank you Sweetwater staff for pointing me in the right direction.
