Korg microKEY-49 49-key Keyboard Controller Reviews

Class-compliant, Bus-powered 49-key USB Keyboard Controller with Mod Wheel, Pitch Wheel, and Damper Pedal Input

Korg's microKEY2 MIDI controller keyboard embodies elegant simplicity, putting basic functionality over frills to provide you with an excellently playable set of keys wherever you need them. This microKEY2 features 49 keys, allowing you to comfortably play with both hands, while remaining compact enough to travel. Dedicated pitch and mod wheels are also handy. Our customers and the keyboardists here at Sweetwater both appreciate the added portability of the second-generation microKEY line, which can now be powered right from your iPad or iPhone, and the addition of a damper pedal input is a nice touch. Top it off with a nice software package, including titles from Korg, UVI, AAS, Propellerhead, and Ableton, and you can't go wrong with a microKEY2.

Real nice budget midi keyboard

By Tommy T. from POLK CITY, FL

This keyboard is perfect for the space I have in my studio. The keys feel nice and the features to the left of the keys are definitely handy and fun to play with. The pitch bender is nice and tight and the keys feel good enough for me. They're not too loose and they're not too tight. I like this keyboard more than the Akai MPK49. Of course those are two totally different types of keyboards. I'm more referring to the way the keys feel as well as the pitch bender. I'm happy that I own a keyboard.

Excellent small controller!!

By Zoyd W. from New York

I bought this so I would be able to take a keyboard with me on a vacation, rehearse with my wife who is a singer and to get ready for an upcoming recording session. I'm using it with an iOS Ravenscroft 275 piano app and quite frankly, married to the app, it's pretty amazing. Not the perfect keyboard for piano of course but by far the best plastic waterfall type keys I've ever played with a piano sound. The size doesn't seem to present many problems and I have large hands. Very easy to play and very expressive with good velocity sensitivity. Could easily do a gig with it in a pinch. Very well made and I am happy with it. Plus I had a bag that it fit and I brought it as jet flight carry on with no problems. It works really well with the iOS app. Just be careful plugging and unplugging the usb cable…it seems tight and might break if you are rough with it.

Fabulous Keyboard for the Road

By Brian H. from Nashville, TN
Music Background: Professional keyboardist, entertainer, composer-songwriter

Bought this to pack in my suitcase and fly to shows. I use it to connect to my iPad for string pads, etc. Flawless. I have a full sound that I can travel with. You won't be sorry!

Broke after one week

By Sweetwater Customer

The usb hub got disconnected from the solder internally just after pulling out the cord (gently) twice. I've had two other M-AUDIO midi keyboards do the exact same thing. One was a very expensive one. These are all garbage made like home printers. Buyer beware!

Korg controller

By Sweetwater Customer

The keyboard is great for entering music into Finale. The smaller size allows it to fit nicely on my desk.

Nice Small/Portable Keyboard

By Brian from St. Louis, MO
Music Background: Producer

I got this keyboard for it's size mostly. I was weary of the keys, but the playability is actually really nice. It has very good dynamic response which can be lacking in these keyboards, but you can still be pretty expressive with it.

Well fit for purpose...

By Jerobobo from Australia
Music Background: Pianist, organist, teacher and accompanist

The great thing about the New Microkey2 range is that they all can be run from an iPad, iPod or iPhone without a USB hub and that makes them really portable and convenient. Also the keys are smaller than standard but still playable by anyone with slim to normal fingers. I recently played for several three-hour choral rehearsals using this keyboard without noticeable fatigue. The inclusion of an assignable pedal socket (default is auto-detecting damper control) is an improvement on earlier models and makes the keyboard much more useful. I own the 61 key model as well as the 49 key, but I love the smaller keyboard for its amazingly compact size, and four octaves is still a useful size for baroque ensembles, pop music and choir practice. I sometimes wish I could alter internal keyboard parameters with an iPad app instead of the Windows/Mac software, but it's a small gripe. The thing is just so useful straight out of the box!
