The best monitor controller period!

By William Bowser from MD on February 22, 2020 Music Background: Studio Owner

You talk about best bang for buck controller with a great sound then look no further. This thing sounds awesome and clean that I know exactly what every record and mix sounds like and then some.
Is it worth the money...
If it breaks I'm grabbing another one!

Superb quality

By John from Chicago on November 28, 2018 Music Background: recording engineer

I purchased the Grace m905 to replace a monitor controller which had served well for many years. I wasn't unhappy with old faithful but I knew that modern products offered substantial improvements in audio quality. I tried a product from another manufacturer but I was very disappointed by the loud popping noise when switching among the speakers, the soft but constant high pitch whine, and the subtle improvement in audio quality. Then I tried the Grace m905...

The audio quality is superb, exhibiting effortless clarity and detail regardless of volume level. The speaker outputs and the headphone amp are absolutely transparent. I've never heard such a clear headphone amp. After listening to several of my mixes I found that some of them were better than I knew and some, ahem, weren't as good as I thought they were. The m905 will make me work harder but I'm sure the results will be worth it.

If you're looking for a monitor controller then I highly recommend the reference quality performance of the Grace m905.

REVISION

By Ryan Mowdy from Oklahoma City, OK on March 8, 2016 Music Background: lots o' stuff

Okay I admit I jumped the gun. Folks let me tell you this thing ROCKS! 0.5 dB increments in volume level, digital i/o, analog i/o, you can use this as your hub for all monitoring including subwoofers in one box with a great LCD display controller that streches like 25 feet.. It has talkback. It took a while for me to get used to it now you can't use headphones AND Speakers at the same time but thats not that big of a deal. All I can say is sing praises about it. I love it. Like right now I got it hooked USB and I have my headphones on and listen to videos and audio on my computer via my headphones (yeah i know I could just connect the headphones to the jack on the CPU but hey this is funner!). So let me revise and say this thing IS WELL WORTH GETTING!

Transparency with your Mix!

By Sly Beats from United States on September 24, 2013 Music Background: Experienced Hobbyist

Grace is known for transparency, which is exactly why I picked up this brand new M905! Time to play with the big boys! I find I have less ear fatigue with this converter compared to my old Mackie Big Knob which was merely a switch matrix. The digital connections are plug and play, no setup required. Overall I wouldn't trade the M905 for the world, but I had to give it 4.5 stars due to the following. There is no button to mute the headphones! and it would be nice to connect two different headphones at two different volume levels so the talent could be at a different level than the mix engineer. Not everyone has a separate vocal booth. Also, there is some mild clicking that is audible when switching between digital sources. Be careful at high volumes!

Ah So-So Not too bad Not Too Great Either

By Ryan Mowdy from Oklahoma City, OK on February 8, 2016 Music Background: lots o' stuff

Okay well I just got my m905 hooked up via SPDIF from my symphony i/o running Pro Tools HD v12.4 on an HD Native card. Got a Wunder Audio CM-7 tube condenser mic and a Royer R121 ribbon mic hooked up on a heritage audio DMA 73 preamp (I do crazy mic'ing techniques in stereo a lot).

I have to say the controller is really great and it does all that it claims but quite frankly I think I'd rather have spent my money on something else instead (like a Symphony MkII!!!!). I mean this is "so-so" or as they say in Spanish "Asi-Asi" - I can live with it - especially when I hook my yamaha HS8 monitors up to it and then a subwoofer later on. It was kind of funny I thought I was not getting any signal but it turned out that I just didn't have the dB up high enough - yet another really stupid mistake on my part go figure. I am shocked quite frankly that audible levels are around 85 dB on the headphones (haven't tried the speakers out yet). It gives off some transparent sort of sound no color to speak of which is what you want for monitoring. The good part - its great to use as a "hub" if you will for your headphones, speakers, subwoofers, etc. but as far as sound quality I'd bet my money on the 1/4 in. headphone jacks on the symphony i/o just my two cents. Okay just set the presets up to + 20dB now its audible around 60-ish dB. Doesn't really matter truth be told but I really like the 0.5 dB increments that it goes in that way you can get a perfect volume level. Also you have to take into account the microphones, the preamps, etc. All in all, I'd say sure its okay I mean I'm stuck with it but honestly folks, spend your money elsewhere unless you REALLY need this. Its sexy no doubt it delivers on what it says its just not something I believe I really needed for my applications.
