Works as designed

By Tom Brown on February 15, 2024 Music Background: Metal Guitarist

I love this little box because it has all the features I have on my Black Lion except in a smaller package. It fits in my hard shell guitar case. It has 2 inputs. MIDI in/out (super nice; not all portables provide that). And simple installation. Great device for the price.

iRig for Android

By Jeff Waisman from Ocean, NJ on September 26, 2023 Music Background: Electronic musician

I bought this for recording drum machines and groove box videos into my pixel 7, this interface is plug and play, worked right out of the box, perfect for recording videos into an android phone

iRig Pro Duo I/O 2-channel Audio/MIDI Interface

By Tim Ergle from Elkhart, IN on July 24, 2023 Music Background: Solo Acoustic Musician

I was looking for a simple, yet professional way to make videos for my social media without having to drag out my Bose TS4 every time. I have a TC Helicon Play Acoustic and tried just using that with no luck. I looked at several interfaces for comparison. Got down to two options and after reading several reviews, the iRig came out on top. It is a solid, well built unit that comes with an array of cables for just about any application. I now use the Play Acoustic and run directly out of that into the Duo and mix using the dials for each channel. It took me a little time to get a mix I wanted, but it was well invested time as I can quickly plug in and go straight into my PC using OBS software and make my videos. Worth every penny!

So far so good

By Chris from Maryland on September 29, 2022 Music Background: Dj, home studio hobbyist

Had this for awhile but did not need it for anything. I recently took it out of the drawer and I am running an Mc-101 and 1010 Music Blacbox through it. It sounds great. I made up a small pedal board case with both machines attached with this inside. I nice little small portable setup with synth and sampling. Just trying to have fun with it. It's great, plus I can hook the irig duo up to phone and play synths, drums and even record a take.

Very Happy

By Sweetwater Customer on July 5, 2022

I use the irig duo with my iphone. I can attached my br br 80 or boss GT100 and when I attached to my phone I can record my guitar with video. I can also line in another iphone to provide audio track. Great product. Very happy with the purchase. Have many hours of video guitar session.

Great Product

By Sweetwater Customer on July 5, 2021

I've been looking for this for a while -ever since my Griffin StudioConnect had compatibility issues with my (then) new iPad Pro. Everything is there and it meets every requirement. I use it with my iRig Stage for my acoustic guitar work and with my keyboard rig via a 12-channel mixer. I did a short test run with Cubasis 3 and everything performed smoothly and as expected. I haven't tested it yet with another DAW I use -Auria Pro but I have no reason to think it won't work perfectly there as well. The bundled software is also a bonus. The MIDI feature is a nice addition although I use Bluetooth from my controller mainly. I imagine it'll come in handy if and when I need additional controllers. All in all, a great product.

Portability, Easy Setup, and Great Sound

By Lou Black from University Park, MD on May 21, 2020

A Fun Addition for MIDI Guitarists

I was been looking for a more portable way of enhancing the sound of my 10+ year old midi guitar. Previously, I would lug my 20 year old Edirol hardware midi sound module around to gigs and then fiddle with the setup up manually (which is what you had to do if you didn't want to haul a laptop as well).

All of that has changed for me. The portable iRig Pro Duo I/O coupled with their free SampleTank IOS phone app makes for a fantastic combination. Additional midi sound samples are avaiable for a tiny fee, but well worth downloading.

As a singer/songwriter, I've been writing and playing more folk acoustic guitar oriented music for years, but never invested in the world of electric guitars with their zillions of effects boxes. With the iRig Pro Duo I/O and SampleTank app combo, I can finally explore the dimensions of the electric world.

A special thanks to Matt at Sweetwater for recommending this device to me.

Pro Duo fine, expect to pay double to keep it working

By Rich from Honolulu on June 11, 2020 Music Background: electronically-inclined Guitarist for a long long time

Let me start with the good. The pro duo is a great interface that allows me to gig semi-professionally, through a PA because of balanced line outs and 2 neutrik Hi-Lo impedance instrument inputs. It is small, fits in my little electronics travel bag, sounds good and is easy to operate. Definitely seems worth the price, probably the best value right now, although getting a strong run for the money from Focusrite Scarlett, and if it ever gets back in stock, MOTU m4, which I am trying to upgrade to. MIDI I/O is an added benefit, but I have not connected outboard gear yeat in order to keep my setup simple and the wiring less tangled than the den of snakes that made my laptop take firm root in the studio!

The downside is if you want to do anything like escape battery hell, avoid battery drain on your iPad while playing a long gig, upgrade your iPad, or lose a cable. A replacement cable costs $... I was having trouble with battery reliability, so I took the dive and invested in the adapter (...an oddly configured DC adapter, with the only reason for the odd configuration being that you can't use a ten dollar aftermarket solution with confidence). Turns out that will keep things running but will not charge the ipad, so long gigs present a challenge, as you need to unhook the iRig from the iPad to charge the iPad. For that you need to drop $... for a "power bridge" which has the added feature of complicating the wiring considerably but providing a charge to the iPad, Reluctantly, I took the plunge. OK, though, it works as advertised, and now the ipad stays charged.

I upgraded my iPad Pro from a 2018 model recently to the 2020 pro and had to drop another $... for what should have been designed as a $5 cable because when I bought, there was not a USB-c cable included I am pretty sure (I can't find one in my studio at any rate!). OK, but what about the power bridge? Turns out I would need to spend another $... for a whole new one, nearly identical to the one I already bought, in order to get one with a usb-c tip instead of a lightning tip! At this point, I've already spent more than the value of the iRig on the cabling and chargers that IK Multimedia purposely makes so that only their stuff works with it and then overcharges.

This looks like an classic extortion racket (though I am sure IK would call it something more market friendly or try to blameshift to Apple), where they get you in at one price and then hook you on "extras" -- it would still be cheaper to drop the second $... than to get a new interface, but if I had gone with a different interface in the first place, I could have gotten a notch up in the quality, looks, and ergonomics department. Instead I am left with a useless pile of overpriced cabling and I'm back to batteries for now once the new $... cable arrives, at least until the MOTU comes back in stock.

If I had to do a do-over: I would perhaps have bought the iRig, as by itself it is quite good, and I would have accepted the limitations of the thing. It works well with higher-amp rechargeable batteries, but those are notoriously unreliable, and one badly charged or worn out battery will cause the unit to not work. The solution for me right now is to stick with the rechargeable battery solution, cut my losses by buying just the $... USB-C cable, and buy a decent battery tester for the rechargeables, and not have gigs that last for longer than two hours without a battery/iPad recharge. And accept that I sent IK Multimedia $... (without the second power bridge) for a bunch of cabling that is both overpriced, and now, utterly useless with the new iPad Pro.

No Mono Switch, no Android app, Hard panning?

By Chase on August 10, 2023

Hey I will be returning this, tried it for a day. When I stream or use my native camera app its hard panned L/R. So for instance, if you're a singer songwriter and you plug in guitar in one input, and vocals in another, you will hear it back as vocals L guitar R. No switch to make it mono. The support and forums say you can do this in the app, however, with no app for android, this should only be advertised as working with iPhones. It also probably needs a noise gate or some solution - it clips really easily and there seems to be virtually no head room.

Other than that the IDEA of this is great. Just the execution missed the mark in reality. Going to be looking at the Behringer Xenyx 802S when it comes out to suit my needs.
