Work Very Well with the Nord Grand

By vicki b. from San Pedro, CA
Music Background: Dilettante

I purchased the IK iLoud Micro Monitors after a lot of research because I wanted monitors that would work with the Nord Grand, but I did not want to spend a fortune. I had to purchase a cable that would allow the hook up between the monitors and the piano because the cable that came with the monitors did not have the TRS connections needed for the Nord. That was an easy fix.

Sound-wise, I knew these speakers would work very well with a little EQ tweaking. I get clarity and good tone in all registers but if I had to pick one that is not as perfect as it could be, it would be lowest bass. It tends to be a little muddy. However, for the price of these monitors, no complaints. And if I really want everything to be perfect, I just use my headphones. Speaking of that, the headphones are always ready to use. I just turn off the monitors, and put on the headphones. I never have to disconnect/reconnect anything.

Great sound, great value. Would buy again.

By Geoffrey C. from WOODSTOCK, GA

These things are awesome. They are very transparent. I use them on monitor stands in a 10x15 bedroom studio. I can mix at a lower volume on these compared to the yamaha hs5. I am so impressed with these, I just ordered the iloud subwoofer to pair with them.

Plenty of sound from these little guys.

By Sweetwater Customer

For rehearsing and self monitoring during gigs, these little guys work great. I am very pleased with them.
The little feet that flip up tend to close up easier than I'd like. They often just sit right back down.
That's not a huge issue, just a tad annoying at times.
Overall I made a good decision going with these speakers.

Great Speakers

By Alex H. from CT

I'm really impressed with these. Got them in an open box for my home office for editing, music, and general use. They're way more powerful than something this size has any right being, and the bass was just right. They take up little room, and I will probably buy another pair for my work office, as they will help declutter everything. I went with these over the new pro's for two reasons. 1) A single power/audio cable makes it simpler. 2. price

Portable and HiFi

By Stacey G. from BOCA RATON, FL
Music Background: Hobbyist Composer and VO Talent

Despite the size, these are powerful monitors for listening to hifi musical sources or composing/mixing with your laptop. We use these in our home studio, as well as "on the go," and they possess sufficient audio range to give me a clear picture of the production. For playing music for listening pleasure, these are simply a solid choice as well. Highly impressed with these bad boys!

So mini and yet sounds so huge

By Paris B.

Having owned the iLoud MTM speakers for 3 years now and very satisfied with the results, the adding of this pair as another reference is highly worthwhile. They are as mini as most computer speakers, but that's where the similarity ends. The iLoud Micro delivers energetic sound quality and are the perfect add for an on the go laptop/tablet user. I have already used this pair to travel and preview music to other musicians, and watch the reaction of them when they hear the quality out of these speakers. These aren't my main mixing speakers, but they have earned their spot as a valuable reference pair that I now use additionally in my mixes also. For those of you who haven't jumped into having more than one pair of speakers in your studio, I highly recommend doing it. The advice from Sweetwater staff has also been exceptional with helping my choices in that area. I come from mostly a live venue mixing background and didn't have a lot of knowledge on the studio speakers side until I started buying from Sweetwater. Their help was key to a smoother transfer from my live experience to studio engineering.

These are excellent ..BUT!

By Cloudswimmer from Orange County, CA USA
Music Background: Professional live and studio keyboard player from 1980 to 2000, hobbyist ever since.

Yeah these sound great a low listening volumes, and great at medium listening volumes too if you avoid certain low frequencies in the playback material, see the problem is at certain low level frequencies the lower ports will rattle (chuff) which is really annoying, I'm guessing handy engineering types might have a mod to quiet that chuff .. but I'm not one of those types of people, so if the chuffing starts on a song the master bus volume goes down on my mixer .. way down! Never the less I like these so much I bought a second pair, and am considering a third pair (or I might try their bigger siblings the MTM's) not sure yet. My other studio monitors are my 30 year old Tannoy PBM 6.5's running via a Hafler Pro 2400 amp, the original Yamaha HS80's paired with a KRK 10s sub, and Yamaha HS5's paired with their HS8s sub, but these little IK's are just as enjoyable as my others to track, mix, and listen back on. My ears got use to these IK's very quickly, and I use them a lot more than my other monitors these days. So yeah I recommend them, just be aware of the low end chuffing .. both pairs of mine do it, and there are videos online demonstrating the issue. I deducted a star due to this chuffing, if IK had a fix for the chuffing I'd give them a solid 5 stars.

Love These

By Gabriel from Tennessee
Music Background: Bedroom producer

I have been loving these monitors since day 1. They're much smaller in person (which I see as a plus), and the frequency range is fantastic for monitoring and playing. You're not going to get super deep pumping bass with these subs, but the low end is very pronounced and accurate. I would definitely recommend!

Holy Cow!

By Steve from Fort Wayne
Music Background: Vinyl DJ, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keys,

I mainly produce electronic music. I have 4 kids which means very limited space in my house. I chose these because of their size to quality ratio. You can't get monitors this size with this transparency anywhere. I've attached a picture of my old desktop speakers for reference. The bass response is surprisingly good for 3" speakers. I added sub bass to a track and I could feel it. These aren't going to be as full sounding as 5" or 8" monitors, but I'm not taking up 50% of my desk space either. Best purchase in a long time!

Excellent size and sound

By Sweetwater Customer

Very impressive sound and volume for speakers this size. Only con I can think of is that the wire going to the left speaker is a bit thick and bulky, would rather each have a power supply to just have a signal cable between them, but a perfect set of speakers other than that. Using an M-Audio AIR controller for easy volume control so the knob on the back of these can stay in the same position.

Small size, great sound.

By Mark L. from Santa Fe, NM
Music Background: Singer/songwriter

I needed a pair of small monitor speakers for my computer desktop. These work great for that purpose. They are compact, yes, but they sound wonderful for their size. And they're really beautiful to look at, too. I also like they way they tilt back. They're a big improvement over typical small desktop speakers of the past. I'm extremely happy with this purchase.

IK Multimedia iLoud Micro Monitor Pair

By Tim K.
Music Background: advanced hobbyist

I have bought several IK multimedia devices this past couple of months. And I am disappointed in the inputs and out puts of the all the devices. They need special cables to connect each of them. I think the RCA is just unneeded in 2023 even the AXE IO interface and Stomp IO don't have RCA inputs. I wished it 1/4 inputs. I guess if can live with live with the inputs I would recommend it, if not go somewhere else.

Incredible value and size for close listening

By Jonathan
Music Background: Music listener

I have these tiny speakers for my cramped PC desktop since 2022, and they are magical for my 60-70dB close listening needs.

I have other much larger passive and active speakers like the Wharfedale Evo 4.2s, Kali LP-6 and JBL 305P, but the Micros sound more coherent than them in this usage environment.

I tilt them upwards with the built in feet, tweeters toed towards my ears and every back panel EQ disabled except LF @ -3dB. Speakers are 4 inch away from the wall and 23 inch apart. Treble is crystal clear without any sibilance, mids are full-bodied and the bass that goes down to 55Hz (measured from my UMIK-1) has enough rumble without sounding thin. The stereo imaging and off-axis performance is also fantastic.

There's a slight idle hiss about an inch or so from the tweeters that fades quickly further away which isn't a problem at least for me.

Baffles dead after only 3 years of light use

By Jason T. from San Antonio

The baffles stopped working out of the blue one day (tweeters still work). Used these at low volume as computer speakers for only 3 years. I have had my Mackie monitors for 20 years and abuse them regularly and they still work. I was skeptical of these when I bought them, but they had good reviews so I took a chance. Live and learn.

Surprising and exactly what I was looking for ...

By Hokhost from Georgia

For any serious listening, I have my stereo system with Wilson Audio speakers. When working though, I wanted a small enough pair of tiny speakers right below my monitor screen. This fits the bill perfectly. Is the sound as good as my main system? Of course not, but it should not as it costs more than 20 times less (not including amplification, cabling ...) and takes up a ridiculously small space on the desk. Have not been that happy with a purchase in a while !!!

excellent for both travel & small spaces

By Richard F.
Music Background: Degree in music, then full-time pro, touring internationally many years in bands (keys, vocals,) Now, mostly retired, doing solo & duo gigs, plus studio work.

I moved around a lot, and while working as a writer for Shangahi recording artist Luoyi Pan, she bought a set of IK Multimedia iLouds to use in a small sideroom. I was exceedingly surprised how easy they are to mix with. When I'd finish a demo for her to hear, I'd take it to her studios Genelics, and the mix translated well, even lows. Unfortunately, someone stole them, so lately when I needed a tiny set of monitors, and remembering the sound, size, weight, I bought another pair.

Considering their low price and usefulness in circumstances with limited space, they're excellent.

By Mark from Chicago

Solidly built. Really nice stereo image. I needed something smaller than my Mackies that I could travel with to use as reference recording at home and mobile. These are a perfect size and weight for me.

Surprised and Impressed

By Andrew R. from Robins, IA

I bought these to replace a pair of JBL 305s. Nothing wrong with the JBLs, but my current situation simply doesn't allow me to give the bass room to breathe. I figured downsizing might help. Plus, having some extra desk space would be welcome!

The iLouds have surpassed my expectations. Great stereo field, highs that are crisp but not cold, and solid but controlled bass from the (front firing) ports. For some reason I had this hangup about plastic enclosures, but they feel sturdy and well-built. For my use case--guitar sims and occasional casual listening (though I prefer headphones for that)--they're great.

Amazing Reference Monitor

By Larry C. from San Antonio, TX
Music Background: Event MC and Club DJ since 1981. Part-time DJ Producer (Remixes, Mashups, Bootlegs)

Explored these after DJ/Producer Laidback Luke mentioned them. Took a chance and orded during Christmas/Winter specials. Glad I did. No More headphone fatigue. I produce in a small home office using final product music - high-quality WAV. Perfection required mixing bands in a pro studio not necessary, though I could see a studio producer using for reference. Reproduction quality was unexpected. Hearing sounds I never knew were there. Great bass required for club music but not over powering. Excellent highs/mids. Perfect for mixing/mastering remixes, mixtapes... Toss in a backpack when traveling. Shout out to Alex Jasiak, my Sweetwater sales engineer.

Perfect for Small Spaces

By Steffan S. from Weehawken, NJ
Music Background: Mixing/Mastering Engineer, Producer

Love these! They do really well for mixing in tight spaces. They do not handle low-end (really, around 200hz and below) super well, as there is only so much these little guys can do. But for how tiny they are it is amazing what they can achieve! Mids and highs are crystal clear, super easy on the ears, and the adjustable EQ settings are great. Would hugely recommend these if you're tight on space and budget.

Great Keyboard Speakers

By Edward S. from Sudbury, MA

I have these Velcroed to my Kurzweil SP6. If I flip the -3db switch they reproduce piano sounds every bit as well as my Adam A7s - perhaps better. And way better than my old Motion Sound amp. And, believe it or not, when I turn them around they are plenty loud for garage band rehearsals.

Fantastic and Surprisingly Powerful Speakers

By Jacob from Chicago, IL
Music Background: Music Producer

These small speakers are excellent. I live in an apartment so I can't blast my music on enormous speakers, nor do I have the space. That said, they can get pretty loud if you need them to. I mixed my most recent album on them and it might be my clearest mix to date because of the flat frequency response. Good for casual listening too. I genuinely think you can't go wrong with these.

Good speakers, poor manufacturer product support

By Ross

The speakers sound great for their price, see other reviews. If you want a product that will last and be supported by the manufacturer then look elsewhere.

Just outside of the 2 year warranty provided by Sweetwater the woofers on both monitors stopped working along with the volume control becoming non-functional. That points to possibly some kind off electronics/DSP failure. Sweetwater couldn't help because the product was just out of their warranty, so I have no issue with Sweetwater. I contacted the manufacturer and they were unable to provide any technical support or spare parts assistance. They suggested I just buy a new pair of speakers. Not happy about that. I now have a pair of expensive paper weights on my desk that *really should* be repairable with just a little bit of consideration from the manufacturer. I will likely upgrade to some Genelecs as I can be sure that they will support their products for years to come.

Power Cord Does Not Stay Connected

By Sweetwater Customer

The power cord connection to the main speaker was poorly designed to stay in place as it continually disconnects from the speaker. The speakers sit on my desk and the slightest movement to the main speaker disconnects the power.

Excellent Mini Monitors

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Pro DJ, Producer

Bought these primarily to use as DJ booth monitors in my home studio and small clubs/venues, along with mobile recording and to use with my MPC, keys, laptop, etc. when I travel.

When I redid my studio, I had to put my turntable 90 degrees from my main mixing desk/monitors, so that obviously creates a sound issue.

Any working DJ also knows the fear of showing up to a venue with a cramped booth, shoved in a corner, that has 0 monitors and a sound system placed either way in front of you, or arbitrarily scattered in the ceiling. My hope is that I can easily throw these in with the rest of my gear, and quickly have a compact monitor system that takes up next to no space.

I was between these and the Genelecs 8010As, but I couldn't justify dropping literally double on tiny monitors when my main monitors could use an upgrade...not to mention, I'd be sketched out hauling them around at $ a pop. Just wanted something compact, cheap (but not computer speaker cheap), and multipurpose. So I pulled the trigger on these.

Sizewise, these are perfect. I have 0 space on my table, these actually fit with room to spare, and the angled base positions them pretty good at my table height (I add about another inch or two of tilt with a foam block, depending on table height). They look really elegant on my Odyssey table too.

Soundwise, I was really impressed. Like, really impressed. It's amazing how much sound can come out of such a small package, without costing a fortune. The low end response is crazy too, just be careful if mixing on these because they can be a little low heavy (especially on desk mode). To compare to the Genelec 8010As is probably a little unfair, considering those are 50W RMS EACH, while these are 50W RMS for the pair....but I'm not sure what I would even do with more sound from such a small monitor.

As an acutal DJ booth monitor, these do work OK. Not ever going to replace an actual 10 or 12 inch speaker, but these do the trick for exactly the types of situations I got them for. Small venues, small booths, positioned in a corner or up against a wall with a whole lot of sound nowhere near your ears. I have to drive them to the limit basically, but I do get a decent amount of monitor. Way better than nothing, or having to send more of the master mix into my headphones...which I HATE doing, because it ruins my focus. Also beats lugging around an additional speaker when I already have like 400lbs of gear.

Only gripes are minor:

First, the LF trim is either flat or -3dB. Ideally, I'd like a middle option, like most monitors have. As I mentioned, they're LF heavy, so the trim is necessary in some mixing applications.

Second, the external power brick. Nothing you could do here I'm sure due to the size, but those things are annoying to make space for.

Third and final gripe is the price. These are great, but I really don't get why they are $. I'm by no means a cheap person when it comes to gear, but I'm kinda calling shenanigans here. That's about what an entry level pair of 5 inch monitors would run you, and in no way would I consider these superior to really any of those. I guess the expense is in making them small? IMO, they're too much. At least throw in the carrying bag with them then if you're going to charge $.

Overall, if you need a quality monitor solution that's portable or will work for a tiny, TINY amount of workspace in a small room...get them. Would not serve as a replacement for any budget 5 inch monitor, though.

Good Balanced Sound

By Robert M. from Leesburg, VA
Music Background: FOH Engineer, Mix Engineer, Producer and guitar player.

Read a lot of reviews and watched a lot of videos before purchasing these speakers. I would say for the most part they live up to the hype. They are very balanced sounding and the bass is surprisingly good for the size of these speakers.. Don't expect them to get super loud. They do get loud enough to get a feel for the music you are listening to but they make you wish you could turn it up louder before the red clip-indicator comes on. (I guess it's a good thing to leave you wanting more? That is where your headphones would come in).

That being said, if you have the space, these would NOT be my choice for my FIRST pair of studio monitors. If you have limited space or frequently work remotely, these are incredible for that purpose. I do have them on my mix desk along with some Mix cubes and Mackie HR8 mk2 speakers..

Again, they sound very good and very balanced. If your situation requires a portable, balanced sounding speaker, go for it, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Also, you can't beat the fact Sweetwater gives you a 2 year warranty on them, so you can feel confident you will get your money's worth.

The most important thing is; use them to make fantastic music. In the end, your gear is a tool, not the end product..

What I've needed for decades of apartment living

By Ryan from Above NYC
Music Background: I started working in an analog studio in the early 90s. I started on digital/software at home in the late 90s. I work on audio/music every day for hobby and more.

I've lived in post-war apartments for half my life (poorly built buildings with nothing but planks and ceiling between walls/floors in New York). This means you can hear your neighbors sigh or yawn.

I've had various monitors that were inexpensive because I knew I couldn't reach the sonic potential - ever.

I had read that these micros had great clarity and and stereo imaging - absolutely true.
When I listen to these the imaging is so similar to my headphones.

The highs and lows have a great balance - unlike everything I've owned before - the highs and mids are great and the bass seems accurately reproduced where I can now mix much better for mid-lows and a bit for low-lows.

Given that I'm more of a sound creator than anything else, these relatively inexpensive, small monitors are really all I need.

Quit Working 63 days In

By John D. from Akron Ohio
Music Background: Been at it since cave men banged on rocks, at least it feels that way.

Loved the sound. Loved the volume. Loved the compact nature of the speakers. They quit working 63 days in and I have no idea why. Yes, I was using surge protection. Tried different wall plug. Checked all connections. Speakers do not turn on. Dead. They were set up and left in the same location 63 days ago. Thank heavens they quit within the 90 day time frame. What happens at 95 days if you did not purchase an extended warranty? Even with an extended warranty why blow a 4 year warranty 95 days in only to perhaps have it happen again in another 95 days? Not willing to chance it. Last thing I listened to with these speakers was Once Bitten Twice Shy by Ian Hunter. How appropos.

Powerful, great sound, BUT...

By Rod from Marion, IN
Music Background: Gigging musician

I like these speakers for their sound, very full wide spectrum sound. However, I had nothing but trouble with connections on the back of the speakers. The main speaker, (5 cable connections) is constantly breaking connection so only one speaker works. One cable is quite heavy for the connector provided and seems there is too much stress on the connector. I have worked with it, trying to get it to work properly, with no avail. I do NOT recommend these speakers!

Believe the Hype!

By Stephen from MS
Music Background: Songwriter/Home Studio owner

These may look like the little junky speakers you got with an HP in the early 2000's but the build, weight, and most important, sound quality is light years beyond.

I use them for alternate monitors in my studio space but they'd be great for pc speakers or any small listening environment. Honestly they'd probably do just fine in a bigger room but it might look a little odd. They'd be perfect for a traveling, as well.

Last thing to echo from the other reviews; there's plenty of adjustment to be made to roll off hp/lp. Definitely order these if you're interested at all. You won't be disappointed.

IK Multimedia iLoud Micro Monitor Speakers

By Sweetwater Customer

The sound quality is great, but annoying static can be heard when no music is playing or during softer musical passages. This requires that I turn off the speakers when not playing music and requires the volume to be loud enough to cover the static when listening. Disappointing.

Oh, man!

By JazzTeck
Music Background: Professional musician

On a rainy, icy afternoon, my iLoud micro monitors arrived at my front door to the delight of my two dogs and the dismay of my package delivery dispatcher, who routinely drops off my packages and departs as quickly as he can. When I first opened the box, I was a little concerned that the monitors were not quite as large as I expected, so I cautiously unpacked them and gingerly connected them to my recently acquired Mac mini M1. I proceeded to pull up one of my favorite contemporary jazz songs on Spotify and give a listen, expecting to be disappointed. At that moment my jaw hit the floor as I heard bass clarity that I had never experienced in a pair of monitors that size. I did a double take to make sure my Genelec 8010A monitors were not on. Let's face it, it's not a fair comparison but for the price, the iLoud micro monitors are way ahead of many of their competitors. I cranked them up a bit and got plenty of volume with minimal distortion. They are perfect for general consumer use if you have limited space or if you want to hear what your mix sounds like on a good pair of computer monitors. Bluetooth is an added bonus, reducing the need for extra wiring for aux input. Independent amps in each cabinet, TRS jacks and die cast aluminum enclosures would be the icing on the cake for these gems!

Very much digging these

By Bob T. from Mansfield, MA
Music Background: Lifelong amateur musician, primarily on bass

A lifelong amateur garage-band musician, I've only been making my own recordings for a bit less than a year. (Raise your hands, all you quarantine music producers.) I've done everything in headphones to this point, until I got these today. Obviously, I don't have much experience and can't compare them to higher-level monitors, but ... wow. For my small-scale purposes, they create quite the panorama of sound. I can hear instrumentation all cross the soundstage, and vocals and other centered sections sound like they're coming from a (nonexistent) speaker dead in front of me.

Going back to listen to things I've recorded on my own, they sound so limited, in terms of dynamic range and also left to right. I'm guessing these monitors will prove a useful tool as I continue the learning process. If you're like me and don't need absolute professional-quality studio monitors, I'd have to think that you could do a lot worse than these - and for a lot more money, too.

Premium price for poor quality speakers

By Sweetwater Customer from Atlanta, GA

I've bought these 3 months ago and they saw around 20-30 hours of use since them. The sound quality is decent, but frankly not stellar - definitively not worth the $... I paid. So I was already not particularly blown away when I started hearing a very noticeable, and quite loud hiss when turning them on. It happens without connecting anything to them and even at the lowest volume setting. It appears that it's a common problem because I found many people online who experienced it. Guess what, it's just out of the 90 days warranty for labor and I actually can't even get their warranty because I forgot to send the registration card 2 weeks after purchasing as they require in the small print. Perhaps I'll reach out to Sweetwater, but paying for shipping could be throwing good money after bad money... Bottom line: avoid it.

Understand what you're buying.

For reference, while I shudder at the term audiophile, I think it's probably what would best describe my background. I was buying these for use in my office to use with my computer. I own, have listened to, and sold high end stereo equipment for years. For this intended purpose, I wasn't very impressed with these. They lack mid-bass, resolution, and that lush sound you typically associate with high quality audio gear. When pushed, there was quite a bit of port chuffing, and the speaker with the electronics in it had a strange sound, like the voicecoil was out of alignment or something.

I'm sure they are a reliable reference for what consumer speakers sound like. If I was mastering a podcast or something and wanted to know if my mix would sound good coming out of a Bose table radio or a chromecast boombox, I think they would suit this purpose well. They do offer a fairly natural sound at low levels, and male voices, which can often sound chesty or muffled from many speakers sounded clear on these.

All the videos of pro engineers singing their praises are probably fairly accurate, given that they know what they are using them for. If the question is "Will my mix sound ok on consumer level garbage speakers?", I'm sure these will give you the answer. If you're spoiled by hifi gear like I am and are looking for nice speakers for your office...these aren't it.

My first review, not my first purchase

By Joseph M. from DALLAS, TX

I have spent good money on high-quality gear, but this is the first time, I believe, that I've gone out of my way to write a review here. What's funny is that this is one of the cheapest pieces of gear I've bought, and it was from a brand I had never heard of. I had a specific need, my rep mentioned this, I bought it a few minutes later, and I've been blown away. The loudness, the fidelity, and the price. Unequaled value. Get them.

Impressive imaging

By Steve
Music Background: Recording Engineer

The first thing I noticed when I turned these on was how impressive the stereo imaging is. Assuming you have placed these speakers properly, they produce an incredibly accurate stereo image. If something is in the center, it sounds like its coming from a single speaker that's directly in front of you. I have Genelec's with SAM tech in my studio, which is by no means a fair comparison for the micros. They obviously lack bass response due to their size, and sound like there is a small scoop in the low midrange and small boost in the upper midrange which could lead to poor EQ decisions. The EQ switches on the back help to mitigate this, but they are hardly a real solution. You just have to get used to them, and know them. I bought these specifically for their size and portability, as I have been doing more and more remote work. I come home to mix on my Genelec's, but for tracking, general purpose listening, or quick mix fixes in hotel rooms, they are doing the job quite nicely and I am very pleased with my purchase.

Micro's on Isoacoustics stands

By Sweetwater Customer

So,
Im waiting for my Kali 6.5's to arrive tomorrow; my Isoacoustics monitor stands arrived today. For kicks, I set up the micro's on these stands, then re-calibrated with sonarworks.....Wow... I can hear more detail and where things are in the mix. Before, my micro's were on my dest in about the same position. I'm not sure if I'm getting lower frequencies than before, but what Im hearing is clearer top to bottom. I'm excited to test the Kali's, but, I'm concerned that they are pretty big??? anyway, who would have though???
mitch
ps. I turn the Isi's upside down and the rubber parts of the micro-stand sit nicely...looks kinda cool also

Whoa!

By Coleman B.

I don't usually review gear, but these speakers demand praise! Two minutes out of the box I was blown away! I wasted days deliberating over this purchase, reading and viewing dozens of reviews and comparing specs, days that could have been spent in musical bliss. If you're considering buying these and you're on the fence, hop off now! Unbelievably great and well worth the price!

Great little monitors

By Theodore E. from Michigan

I'm impressed with these. They're very compact, but they're bi-amped and have strong bass sound. Should work well with mixing quickly. Also nice to have the front kickstand. Good material and good quality.

Good Mastering Monitors

By James G. from Inglewood, CA

I bought these to have a second set of monitors to reference as I master in my home mastering studio.I have to say I was totally surprised when I started mastering on them in stead of the main monitors.I now use these as the mains while mastering. They have great base but I did roll off the bass by 3db so I would not over process the highs.I also matched the volume of the main monitors and the I Loud monitors so I could A/B the mastering.Overall a good set of Monitors as a work tool.

IK monitors, small and affordable

I picked these up recently and was impressed by the tone overall. The bass presence is good, a very small footprint(also good) was helpful to my already full desktop. They really do sound decent so this is a good purchase. Thanks Sweetwater!

Sound fantastic, barley get loud enough to make it worth referencing with them. Bass response is incredible...so incredible they broke from mix referencing HipHop tracks. Wont buy again but would be interested in trying out the newer version in hope they can handle normal Db listening levels.

Recording on the go

By Stephen from Sharon Pa
Music Background: Gospel funk guitar player

I got these because I did not want to take my larger monitors. just playback.I got these because they were on sale and if I did not like them. I would send them back. I had another set of small monitors that were alright but I could not turn them up enough to get some impact.not a loud sound I just wanted a solid sound.the i louds give just that a solid sound for their size.they also are accurate enough for my needs.I did have to learn them.I gave 4 stars because at $... for the pair.I think it is a little high. ...also they called iloud but I would call them I full because at that size you get a full sounding monitor.at a decent volume.that is all you can ask for.you can turn them up only so far.or they will distort. but will the full sound. I do not need them very loud.great choice if you are one the go.

I love these monitors.

By Dave
Music Background: Vocalist, entertainer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist 50yrs in front of audiences across America and Canada

I was skeptical whether or not these monitors would live up to the raving reviews...well, they do. They're wonderful. I wanted something like "headphones" without something being on my head or jammed in my ears. I looked at dozens of small monitors and bookshelf speakers... all of them had a shortcoming or two... and finally I gave these a try. WORTH EVERY PENNY. I've used them regularly for four months and the only "negative" I can think of is the lack of a headphone jack...I would find that handy to use headphones to check deep bass...otherwise, they're great. I put them up to ear level instead of on the desk. The "sweet" spot is narrow, as others have noted, but it's not an issue if you place them correctly. No ear fatigue. I can use them all day and the lower volume is a real blessing to keep my ears fresh. My only regret is I didn't buy them when I first learned of them, but I was skeptical of price and performance. I have come to realize they are well worth the price and very conducive to productivity.

Fantastic for Their Size

By Seth B. from Fidalgo Island WA

These little speakers are blowing me away. The mids are clear and the bass is there without seeming hyped. They beat the pants off my old Audioengine SA2s, which is what I used before with my laptop. I will still use my studio computer with larger mid-fields and a sub for serious mixing, but with these I can now do useful work anywhere and tweak later. And it's great to have a convenient carrying bag so it's easy to take them along anywhere I go.

GREAT sound, unreliable quality.

By James P. from Manitou Springs CO
Music Background: I play CDs...a lot;<)

Hello. I'm an ILoud Micro Monitor user who loved their sound for several months until the base output quit literally between using them one day and the next. Unfortunately, I bought mine from their original owner, so I had no warranty protection. When I contacted IK Multimedia to ask whether I could pay for their repair, their representative Jason Williams informed me politely that IKMM currently has no repair options available and could offer no help. I really do not know why mine died since the base output quit between listening to an audio book one night and turning them on the following day. The thing is, if you want a great sounding pair of micro studio monitors, these are it. If you want studio monitors you can count on when you need them, my experience says give these a miss.

Some Magic Going On Here

By Sweetwater Customer from Gotham City
Music Background: Recording and Mixing Enthusiast

These are serious monitors. The sound is transparent and the soundstage natural. It is as if these tiny monitors are not even there. These will get tons of use as my main audio source for my computer and, more importantly, for some serious mixing using Logic Pro X. Sure, I will need to use my other set with deeper bass response to finish things out, but these are going to get me most of the way. I love that they take up so little space and sound so awesome. Really happy with the purchase.

Awesome Product

By Jim K. from Kalifornistan

Haven’t had a chance to really put these to their true, intended purpose yet, but first impressions: they are more substantial than I thought they would be. Nothing flimsy or cheap feeling about them. Solid, quality construction. They are REALLY small. Truly portable but with surprising volume- in a good way. Sound quality and clarity is perfect to my old ears- all I could ask for. I’m just start your in mixing and recording, but more experienced friends are truly impressed with theses little, but big-sounding monitors.
If you’re cramped for space, on any kind of budget, or want something portable then look no further.

These are Good. For Price and Size they are Great

By Andrew C. from Johnson City, TN
Music Background: Musician & Engineering Hobbyist

As the title states these are good monitors, with no qualifiers. They are not, without qualifiers, great. However, considering price and footprint they are in fact great.

I am disappointed in the inability to obtain a larger interconnecting cable (the proprietary power + audio cable that runs between the two). I understand that in most cases 59" is sufficient, but not having the option to get a longer one (IK cites quality degradation as the reason for this) is slightly limiting in my case.

That aside they are a perfect compromise on price, footprint, and quality. Mixes translate nicely. They don't sound amazing, but that's not the point. They are faithful, not sweet or additive, flat and responsive.

Little but loud

By Peggy L. from Oklahoma
Music Background: Amateur gear geek

I bought these monitors as plain old computer speakers that might also be used in my studio. OMG, I might replace my Sonos soundbar and speakers I use for my big screen TV with these speakers. They are that good. Great separation even at shoulder width. Thumpy bass when you want it, clear and crisp top notes. Goes LOUD without distortion. I love the Bluetooth to stream from my phone or iPad. Comes with all the cables you'll need and easy to set up. Heck, I did it. Works great without plugging through my pre-amp.

Small size, big sound

By Shawn C. from Nashville, TN

I'm using these speakers for basic mixing/editing in my preferred DAW via MacBook Pro and Apogee Groove, and the sound is wonderful. I'm able to get an accurate picture of what I'm working on and my basic rough mixes are translating nicely onto other systems. I still send out my tracks for professional mixing, but I know that if I can get things sounding good with this basic setup at home, I'm good to go.

If you're going to be traveling with these speakers or can't leave them set out all the time, get the carrying case/bag- it's sturdy and everything fits perfectly. For an extra $... more, it's well worth it.

By David s. from Brooklyn n.y

This is a great reference monitor. The sound is great and the best you can get if you're looking for a small monitor (at this price point). But if you're focusing on sound quality go for a bigger speaker (I'm not saying that the sound is bad it's great but you can get better at this price) Sweetwater is the best!

I copy everything Dave Pensado does (best form of flattery). Saw these in his new lab (he took down auratones - I couldn't believe it!) He said that these things were a secret weapon. He was right! I thought because of how great his room was tuned which I why they sounded so good. These things have a some magic going on inside these little boxes. I was looking at these vs genelecs and I decided to save my money and found I was not missing out on anything. I can't believe how low these can go!

perfect for limited space

By John M. from West Chester
Music Background: Musician - Songwriter - Multi-track Mixing

My studio is a shoe box. Hardly room for two people. Surface area is a premium. However, I felt I needed another pair of speakers to switch for reference. Naturally, right? I knew about these for a long time. When they went on sale I jumped on them. What you are getting is the amazing speaker technology that is out there today. I'm sure you know of the JBL Flip, Bose, Sony, and other Blutooth speakers that sound great for your iPad. That's what these sound like. I use room correction software on them and find myself using them primarily during mixing before switching to my larger studio monitors. Can't go wrong with the iLoud Micro Monitors.

One major flaw

By Art K. from Northern Illinois

I purchased these based on all the positive reviews. They sound decent, but I play bass guitar through them, and everything from a low G to a B note cause a terrible rattle in the speakers. Sweetwater sent me another pair and it was the same thing. Not particularly pleased with these.

Impressive!

By Sweetwater Customer from Chincoteague Island, VA
Music Background: Performer, composer, recording engineer

Given the size and price point, these speakers really are amazing. The sound compares favorably with my Rokit 6 monitors. The bass isn"t as full. Still, a stunning bass considering the size of the speakers. I wouldn"t call these things "reference" monitors. But they are very serviceable. My monitor rack includes the awful sounding Avantones all the way up to pricey Focals. The iLoud units are a great addition. If you are on the road or your studio doesn"t have space for full size monitors, these are a very good choice

incredible

By K. from New Jersey
Music Background: amateur recording for two decades

I do all of my writing and recording in a small home office and was getting tired of having the large KRKs sitting on my office desk when i don't have the same kind of room i used to have. I plugged these speakers in about an hour ago and was immediately shocked at how full the sound was. They don't have quite the same bass presence of the larger KRK V8s, but that would be impossible to completely match those. These things are full range, very flat and accurate. Nothing is too hyped, nothing is too fatiguing, and they sound good at all levels. highly recommended!

I got these on a weekend sale, but would certainly pay full price for them.

oh and they are REALLY small. less than a quarter the size of my 8" KRKs

I'm a believer

By Jackson R. from York Haven, PA
Music Background: Home studio producer, Audiophile

I used to think there is no substitute for large speakers. size naturally matters because you get increased bass response with a larger woofer that is in a well tuned enclosure. these speakers have become my own favorite speaker, for many reasons. First of all, they are super compact. I can fit the pair with the cables into a larger sized lunchbox. They appear to be very durable as well. Secondly, The clarity and accuracy of these speakers is extremely good, clarity about on-par with this sort of price point, but also extremely flat and neutral sounding, thanks to the DSP and quality components used in the speakers. The bluetooth quality is very good and simple to use, better than any other bluetooth connection I've used. lastly, the most amazing thing about these speakers is the bass response. these things can deliver bass accurately to 55 hertz, but I can still hear it down to around 47 hertz. these are the kind of frequencies that shake windows and punch your chest. I put this to the test by emphasizing the bass by 6db on a music player, and I played some classic trance music from the 1994 era of electronic music, and all I can say is WOW!!! I was pretty concerned about the low frequency limiter kicking in at lower listening levels, but it really has not been a problem, even with the bass boosted. I can crank them very loud before they start to limit the bass. I A/B'd these against my far more expensive focal alpha 50's, and although the focals had noticeably better clarity/detail and a bigger soundstage, I would be very comfortable mixing my music on these (without the bass boost, of course). If you have even a slight need for small or portable studio speakers, or if you want to just upgrade your computer's sound in general, get these! I am now a believer in the magic of this product, and if you try them, I am confident that you will be, too.

small and mighty

By Sweetwater Customer

For what these are, in terms of size and price - they punch WAY above their weight. Sound is clear and defined - pretty wide sweet spot, and the imaging and response is really remarkable. They are about the size of the Bose companion system, maybe a little bigger - but the sound is so much drastically better I may replace my Companion system in my office with one of these. Great for all sorts of applications.

This little guys will shock your pants off. Within 5-10 minutes of listening and reference I bought a second pair. One for the big studio and one for home for small projects. They are clean, clear detailed and accurate. Even the bass. I head everything and where it's supposed to be. I even have three of my friends who just ended and ordered within a week. If iloud did an 8 or 10 inch as studio monitors (hint hint). With same technology I would buy them instantly. So guys get cracking on that please.

Not that impressed

By Jeff from Washington DC
Music Background: audio/video post-production professional

I was really expecting something special from these after reading all the reviews. But gotta say I'm disappointed. That's not to say these little guys are bad. They are fine - as long as you know that they are not really "reference monitors" that are going to give you a full representation of the frequencies you may be mixing. They are really upper-mid range heavy. The bass really doesn't show up until you crank them way up. Pair them with a sub and you might be in business. The EQ switches help some with the response, but I think you're better off with headphones.

Highlights: great stereo imaging, solid feel and high quality connections/components.

Not saying I regret the purchase, but I probably should have shopped around a bit more before pulling the trigger on these.

Great Speakers So Far

By Kevin from Fort Wayne

I am relatively new to home recording and was looking for a set of monitors to compliment my studio headphones. Unfortunately, I just don't have room for larger-sized monitors. I've been looking at the iLoud Micro Monitors for a while and decided to get them. I'm glad I did! They sound great to me, given my lack of experience, and have helped me improve some mixes I was struggling with. While I prefer to mix at conservative volumes (which the family appreciates), they have plenty of volume if needed despite their small size. They are small enough to travel with easily so I can take them with me when I record at a friend's house. I haven't used it yet but they also offer Bluetooth connectivity, which is a nice feature. I've only had them for a month, but so far I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend them.

Big quality sound from Micro Speakers. Amazing.

By Daniel L.
Music Background: Guitarist, musician, songwriter, producer

When speakers arrived, had set them up for my Tascam 2488 NEO multi-track recorder. Had time to put them to the test, did a couple mixes with completed tracks/songs. WOW! Could not believe the full spectrum sound (from lows, mids, highs) coming out of these little "beast" monitors! Could literally feel the air pushing out of the air ports on bottom of speakers, sitting nearby them. One would think you were sitting next to monitors, three times the size. The power output was also quite impressive...25 RMS watts per channel (more than sufficient). Sweetwater had a special weekend event, great deal on them. Even at regular price, they're worth every dollar spent. Don't let the size and style (plastic) fool you. Don't think you'll find any Micro Monitors or regular studio monitors better sounding than iLoud currently in the market, for the same price.

Fills many needs

By James C. from Belleair Bluffs, FL

I'll use these for computer speakers, youtube and movie streaming, music production software, editing and travel. Solves multiple needs for my uses. Highly recommend, just like all the others.

I found the bass better at greater than 7', which the sound waves need the air travel anyway. Check them out or just buy them like many others have. Purchased unheard, only by reviews. You won't be disappointed.

Not bad for being small

By Hollis S. from NYC
Music Background: Composer, Sound Designer & Engineer

They're good in a pinch, or maybe on the go. I find them a little lacking in the midrange, as you might expect. But the bass is surprisingly represented.

The connectivity options are rca or Bluetooth. There isn't independent power in each speaker. It connects to one, then is shared to the other via a proprietary audio cable.

It also has some options for shelving to compensate for room issues or proximity to walls & desks. But they're just switches. So it's on or off.

It probably goes without saying, but these are not a replacement for larger monitors. They are not bad for a small workstation, laptops or as an alternate monitor.

These monitors are great for a small project studio and travel. I use these in my studio away from my main studio and they deliver trustworthy reference with a dynamic sonic near field experience. A nice rugged build makes them road worthy (with care) for hotel and on site locations (thanks to the bluetooth). They come with nice sturdy cables and power supply. I suggest these monitors to the producer on the go and in small studio applications.

I bought these mainly just to pack in a suitcase and have a decent pair of monitors to write on while traveling away. These monitors are so good, so detailed and so responsive that they have become my reference monitor of choice in my studio and my mixing monitors while away.

I'm still amazed at how tight the low end is and how clear the mids are. I didn't expect them to be a mixing monitor, but they are indeed that.

Way better than they should be

By Jan K. from Seattle region
Music Background: ambient producer and performer

At this size, at this price, these little monitors are above any reasonable expectation in performance.

I have one (very minor) gripe, and one (very minor) heads-up for other purchasers.

The gripe (and the reason I'm not giving five stars) is that below about 50Hz, they're basically silent. If you need that, get a sub.

The heads-up is that yes, they have those very convenient threaded holes in the base to accommodate mic stands, but they're euro-standard mic stand holes, so if you get (as I did) american standard mic stands, you'll need an adapter. Not a big deal, and quite cheap from Sweetwater, but just one added item.

Other than that, great little devices! I've recommended them elsewhere, and I'll recommend them here.

For Mini Monitors... You will not believe the sound of these!
So perfect for mixing and working while on the go.
I have heard full size monitors that don't throw the low end like these.
Very Impressive!!

Highly Recommend!

One word review

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Semi-pro producer and composer.

I just fired these up after receiving a pair earlier this week. Having done my research I expected these to sound okay. But I never expected them to sound this good, especially given the small size. The highs are well defined and smooth and the bass is much much better than even expected. It truly does deliver a surprising punch. I purchased these for my mobile rig but they sound as good as the larger speakers in my main studio. I am truly happy with this purchase. Kudos to IK for a really nice product.

So, my one word review?

WOW!!!

Small Size...BIG Sound!

By Dontae D. from Richmond,VA
Music Background: Writer,Producer and Engineer

I chose these from a need to get away from headphone mixing for our mobile rig. Lugging around big studio monitors can be done but it gets old quickly. Then you run to your headphones. While my headphones are great, who wants to wear them for long periods of time and still not beable to trust what you hear. The IK Multimedia iLoud Micro Monitors pack a big sound in a small size. I had the volume at zero and still had to turn them down. The only thing that comes close is the Bose technology. The built in room EQ and fold out desk stands are a big plus.
#1 PRO: Huge, wide and clear sound from small units about the size of your palm
#1 CON: The Bluetooth function is great but starts fading at around 12 feet away from signal source.
#1 SECRET: Pair these with IK Multimedia ARC software to get the best pro studio monitor performance.

Excellent micro speakers with pro sound

By Ed B. from USA
Music Background: lifetime musician and over 40 years professional audio engineer, studio owner, mixing, mastering, and live sound.

I'm giving these 5 stars, not because they are the world's greatest speaker, but because they may be the world's greatest speaker in this size and weight. They really do sound good, very even response, and much more bass than seems physically possible from something this small. Absolutely perfect for traveling, and just what I was looking for, but even better than I expected. I hear bass down to 47Hz, and the mids and highs are clear, focused, and revealing. I'm a 40+ year audio professional, and this is a professional product in my opinion. Much better than mixing on headphones when away from the studio, and great just for listening to music while doing other things. Thanks Bob M. at Sweetwater for hooking me up, I am extremely happy with this purchase.

Great for their size/space constraints

By Jake W.
Music Background: Hobbyist

Very happy with them overall. I'm a hobbyist/record my own stuff & don't have the space for any kind of studio or room treatment. So these work well being able to just set them up to mix wherever. They are quite flat to my ears & I'm already getting better mixes than just using cans like I was prior. The mixes I do on these have translated well to other listening sources. Great bass response for the size, & they can get loud but I never really need them super loud. I wish my amp sims sounded a little better when playing through them, but overall these met my expectations & I'm very happy with them. Bonus is Bluetooth for playing music around the house.

Amazing Performance for the Size and Weight!

By Nicholas Y. from Tinley Park, IL

They have excellent frequency balance, low distortion, reasonable bass response (-3db at 55 Hz) and will play at high SPLs (low dynamic compression up to about 92 dB SPL, but can play as loud as 100 to102dB SPL at 1.5 meters.

They have a much smaller "sweet-spot" than my KH120s or LSR-308s, but positioned properly sound fine
The total system weight: Speakers, external power supply and all connecting cables is 5 lbs - 3oz.

update from first post

By mitch S. from Tampa

Well,
I got my ARC2 up and running and now I'm completely blown away!! No matter how flat these companies claim that their speakers are, put them in a little bedroom studio and there goes the "flat". My ARC2 now lets me hear the depth of these bad boy's. Now I'm completely blown away by the tight bottom that was missing before ARC2

with Arc2 in place, these are now all I need along with my cans and Sonarworks correction software

I'm hooked!

a different type of studio monitor

By mitch s. from Tampa

Let me first put this in context. I'm a home recording guy in a small room with a fair amount of room treatment. I have a family that can't stand hearing me mix my stuff over and over. I mix mostly on headphones and will use these to check my mixes. Ok, enough background. When I first started listening, I was not a happy camper. I was used to hearing my HS5's that I recently sold. Once my ears started to adjust, I'm loving them more and more. I love the small footprint and close proximity mixing. I can use them comfortably without complaints from the family. The stereo image is great and frequency balance is very good. Don't compare these to larger monitors because this is a different animal. I tried to get ARC2 measurements, but for some reason, It won't work on these? I have a message out to IK. I still hear just a tad of frequency imbalance because of my room, but nothing like with the larger speakers. Flipping to mono is a great way to work on a mix also. I really don't need the ARC2 with these, but I would like the different simulations that ARC2 provides. I'm very please with the full frequency range given the small size. Like I said, my headphones with Sonarworks eq has the final say on my mix.
Well done; everything that I hoped for!!
