More details from ilok needs improvement. (ie. Turn ilok cloud off)

I was stubborn and held off for a long time, totally avoiding getting into any sort of software plug-in or application that would require me getting one of these iLok dongles. But I was forced to recently and it turned out to be fairly easy (well except for the extra expense). It was almost plug and play (with a few additional internet clicks and registration). So far so good. I was expecting the worst and it turned out to be not so bad at all. If there are people out there as reluctant as I was, avoiding this, because it is something extra they have to buy, all I can say is don't bother waiting. It's not that big of a deal.

At first I was unable to get the ilok USB-A device to work in one of my laptops. However, worked like a charm in both my DELL 7920s. So I am resetting the OS on the laptop just have not had time

I needed to purchase this to run my Lexicon MPX Reverb and it works great. Moved the rest of my licenses also because they depended on the internet and mine sucks, so I killed two birds with one stone.

I could not get this to work on my Windows 11 system. I tried all the things suggested by ILok tech support and also had my own IT person troubleshoot and we could not get ILok Manager to install or to recognize the USB Ilok. Spent many hours trying to figure this out to no avail so finally giving up and now I am out the $ for the ILok plus another $ for the plugin software I bought that I cannot use or return that requires Ilok. Waste of money and very frustrating! It might work just fine for others but for me it was worthless.

If you're buying software licenses this thing is basically mandatory if you're in the Windows OS world. Macs might be more stable, but it's just a little USB stick of insurance for us Windows users.

I haven't had a Windows PC completely fail on me in quite some time, but this little stick gives me a piece of mind that I'll be ok in the future.

I purchased this item from Sweetwater as an attempt to work around iLok license manager software shortcomings on current Windows operating systems, as outlined at answers.microsoft. Unfortunately, licenses active on the iLok USB dongle still need to work with the iLok license manager software, so the USB dongle did not help.

(Sweetwater is terrific, they fulfilled my order promptly as they always do. This negative review pertains to the iLok USB dongle, not Sweetwater.)

I bought this iLok usb for use with VSL Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 to use my old mac as a server to offload my sample libraries. You don't technically need the usb but I was getting performance (crackling) issues having to use wi-fi to use the cloud license - using the iLok I don't have to use an internet connection and it got rid of the crackling on my 2018 mac mini i5. I also loaded all my other iLok serials (maybe 30) and it is convenient to just plug it in and not have to go through processes to use the plugins I paid for.

So I got professionally into music approx. 9 years ago. Only now do I truly appreciate the iLok Key It is so much better than using plugins without an iLok. I definitely prefer it! You will understand as time goes on in your mixing and mastering career -Roxwell Z

This one is smaller than my original iLok. My original iLok was so large ot stuck out of my PC so far I hit it with a piece of furniture and shattered it... it still worked though! This new iLok is smaller and better. It's roughly 40% smaller than my original which is good!

I recently broke down and purchased an iLOK USB-A out of long time frustration with not be able to access my software and plug-in licenses in the cloud. I have 13 activations, 6 were in the cloud. Now everything is on the USB. For $ it was worth it to be able to keep working and not have my sessions shut down every time the cloud burped. It will be interesting to see if Avid keeps the same ProTools license control model once they've been sold - since they're now a subscription only service they seem be using iLOK as an enforcement mechanism to ensure subscribers keep paying $/yr forever...

I am pretty disappointed in this software. It is not intuitive and took up a lot of space on my computer. There is easier software available with other companies. Even with the excellent customer service, this was a waste of my money.

Works as described!

Shipped immediately and they had a representative contact me by phone call not two hours after ordering. I didn't even realize it was them and missed the phone call, after which they texted me and told me to let them know if I needed anything. Delivered fast and when I opened the package I was greeted with a bag of candy, thank you note, sticker, and my iLok. Absolutely incredible service.

This product was easy to install and all licenses are stored on it, but not necessary to separately download them.

It does what it is supposed to do. The Gen 3 device is smaller and sturdier than its Gen 2 counterpart.

Simple enough. ILok account transfers over with a single prompt. Holds a huge amount comparatively! Little pricy but it's a must have for most licensing and pro tools

Product works as described. Price is kind of pricey for what it is. Easy to setup and easy to use when your I-LOK account is set up.

I'm sure this ilock will be just what I need to use my pro tools first recording software offline if I'm ever able to get the security code .

I'll admit, sometimes plugins can be a pain to actually end up using them, meaning that the process it takes to finally use them in your daw can be a long long trail in the cyberspace woods! Ilok is a very good idea if you are a professional and travel for your work. Ilok makes it easy to take some of your tools with you. If you absolutely need an Ilok, get the latest version, in my case the 3rd generation. It doesn't cost any more than the 2nd generation and I'm told it will cover all your Ilok needs for some time to come. Sweetwater will hook you up and provide any help you might need along the way!

The new generation of iLok is even more compact (pinky finger size). Setup time is just a few minutes after registration. This makes it easy to work offline with your favorite plugins.

The best licensing dongle, and it's so small.

After wanting/waiting too long, I decided I had to get one of these and Sweetwater was "the best path" to do it. EZPZ purchase. It arrived quickly and my wife ate the candy (?!? She's figured that part of a Sweetwater package out! LOL) The installation is very simple and there are both help pop ups and tutorial videos. I have access to a new pile of plugins and am enjoying the little blue LED (very subtle!), too!

What's to say/, its an iLok! Kind of disappoined in iLok actually, when Gen 1 came out they said that would be all I'd ever need, and here we are at Gen 3. Wish they'd get it right so we don;t have to keep buying new iLoks!

does what's needed...

This USB iLok key has done what it was meant to do; keep my license keys on it, active, and in order. My only complaint isn't about the USB key itself, but about the iLok system as a whole. I don't particularly care for this activation system, but this key does make it easy to transfer keys from my laptop sessions to my desktop sessions. Welcome to the anti-piracy online world and the hoops you gotta jump through to get things in order.

Super simple and convenient. Allows me to use my addins on any machine I plug it into.

I recently brought the 3rd gen ilok because you need it to open certain vst software..I love the sturdiness and the micro usb style..It holds 1500 licenses..I recommend this item to anyone doing music..If you have home or professional studio..thanks again Sweetwater...

I had about 8 iLoks.
Now down to 2.I transferred 90 auths from a blue iLok. The app froze for a while, and then the auths disappeared and I got an error message that they couldn't be transferred to the destination iLok. The iLok guy at NAMM told me if that happens, they just go to your online account. That's where they were. Only 2 of the old blue ones seem to have a handful of really old auths I'd like to have that don't seem to work any longer - MOTU Ethno, East West Symphonic, and so on. I'll have to see if the MOTU and EW can issue new auths.
BUY ZDT protection!!!!! however you MUST enable TLC on your iLok USB BEFORE the device is lost or stolen.
Having to go to every manufacturer and re-authorize would be impractical. It's a very good solution.

I love it it works

Very well made. No moving parts or usb tip sticking out to potentially damage. Very small footprint but feels dense in hand giving it a solid feel. These days one may not feel they need a physical iLok because of they can access their iLok account from the cloud, but if your network is ever down for any reason, this will be your key to the city

First of all, going the extra mile and getting the two-day shipping is completely worth it. It got here on time and without incident. I even got a bag of candy and a sticker with it! If that's not great customer service, I'm not sure what is.

Second of all, getting it set up is ridiculously easy. Assuming you already have a license, as long as you have ilok license manager installed, getting it set up is as simple as plugging in the ilok when you have the license manager opened and signed in. It will ask you if you want to register the device to your account, and click yes. Then, once it is registered (usually instantaneously), just drag the license you want to activate onto the dongle. The process was so easy I was worried that I did it wrong, but it authorizes protools flawlessly.

The advantage of using an ilok dongle like this is that in case your computer (in my case, an old Toshiba) gets stolen, wiped, hacked, or just stops working, you can quickly transfer your use of Protools to a different computer, because the license is activated on the dongle. The alternative being to activate the license on the computer itself, which runs the risk of losing the license due to computer malfunction, and having to call support to get a new one, or going through that hassle.

The dongle is pretty small, so don't lose it! However, it looks super cool, and it lights blue when you plug it into the computer. Who doesn't want to spend... to get this thing?

The Ilok Helps keep miss us of software. But you can still us the software on all of your computer one at a time.

The iLok came and was an ease to set up!
With the iLok manager I was able to instantly transfer all the licenses I needed to have of this key.
The smaller footprint made it perfect for my laptop.
The key is virtually the size of the last digit of my pinky!
Space is always a premium with laptops and even though it was connected to a usb hub, it functions perfectly!

Right now I have not been able to get iLok to work. I believe it is more to do with ProTools as when it is loading it does not see the licenses on iLok. I'm hoping today I can get it working and come back and update this review. As of right now I'm disapointed.

The iLok 3rd generation is something that I wish more companies would use.

I was disappointed that I had to get a new iLok dongle for the latest Pro Tools, but the new one works fine and we even moved my iLok 1 licenses to the newer version 3.

This thing is amazing I don"t have to worry about losing my license and I can store all my products that I purchase on this bad boy. Worth every dollar.

Had to purchase the iLok3 in order to buy some new plugins ... delivery of the product was timely; installation was easy. All good.

Still tryna get the hang of it all but I like the whole concept of what it's generally made for. Such tiny device, yet such great in value. It was worth my spent ay.

Works as advertised but make SURE, however, that it's plugged in to a full-function USB port. Tried it with an older Belkin hub, no luck. I noticed that the micro-LED was blinking when I plugged it in to the Belkin, I found no reference to the blinking LED in the documentation. The blinking LED is a warning that the port did not support the iLok 3. A later model powered OWC hub is working well.

Any other issues encountered will probably related to the software author's implementation. I chose to store all 8 of my licenses on the iLok in anticipation of needing another computer in the near future. Having all licenses on the iLok SHOULD enable using all of your iLok-ed software on any computer but I haven't been able to test that capability.

After checking iLok's official website for pricing, I decided to order one from Sweetwater. Sweetwater's price was better, and their service is unbeatable in my opinion. Once downloading the iLok license manager, the iLok itself is rather simple to use. The fact that I have to use one at all is irritating, but I've been using iLoks since 2011, so no big deal. I've never had an issue with an iLok USB dongle. My PCs have always recognized it without issue and I've never had a physical failure. iLok works, it's just annoying to have to use at all :) There is one thing to beware of when using an iLok and transferring a license to another account - say if you're selling your copy of Pro Tools. It costs $... to transfer a license to another iLok account. If you're just transferring a license from one iLok to another, and both are registered under your account, then it's free. It costs money when you transfer a license to another iLok users account.

All my license saved successfully. If some have had issues in Windows 10, I was able to get mine detected and working by letting Windows scan for the required drivers.

It works well for what it's supposed to do. It's just a little annoying having to have this take up a USB spot to use my programs though. But for what it is it gets it's job done and seems to be built well.

As always SweetWater's delivery and order proccess is 2nd to none, the ilok itself works great but, I'm just an average joe when it comes to computer downloads and such, the ilok's are monsters to get everything up and running( not for the faint hearted ). In upgrading Pro Tools I found the iLok Cloud to be very convenient in handling licenses. Unfortunately, in my case, a few of Avid's legacy plug-ins are not compatible and that's where the 3 comes in. I had to upgrade my iLok and the transfer turned out to be drag and drop simple.
Also note the size. It won't get in the way of other USB plugs on the bus.
If you have to use it, know that it does work flawlessly.

I obtained this after an accident with my ilok 2. I much prefer this design as it is certainly more robust. Its way more solid than the previous plastic versions. Moving licenses was a breeze. No problems thus far.

It actually arrived earlier than it was supposed to. That alone speaks. Then, the product worked as efficient as it should and even came with candy(good candy, not the wack kind)!

I'm glad that as a consumer companies such as these exist.

I have a little more time to set up shop but the email support and instruction on how to setup my iLok and protools subscription are a necessity. I can not stand using products with out simple support questions being answered with systematic instruction. Sweetwater has bridged this gap :)

Don't regret the purchase the safest I have felt in years went through a lot of ilok's in my time and I say best move for an on the move Audio Engineer

This does exactly what I expected it to, and it is also smaller than I expected (which is a good thing). I am so glad I got this 3rd generation iLok.

I bought the 3rd Generation iLok a few weeks ago, and it works great! I've had no bugs or issues with it, and it holds all my licenses great!

This new ilok 3 it's awesome, works very good, it's super tiny and durable.
You can have x3 times the license on your ilok 2 (no big deal) it's a must have for the engineer on the go as well if you have multiple set ups, it won't break so thats pretty cool.

It's simply DRM, so it's already working at a deficit, and it's not worthy of more than an "OK, Average" rating.

It does what it's supposed to, iLok Manager hasn't caused any issues (surprisingly), and the key itself is built well enough in this generation. It's a price gouge on PACE's part (-not- Sweetwater's), but that's part of their gig over at PACE. They just roll that way.

By specs, it's better than the last two generations, so...if you need one, go for it.

If you remember the first generation of iLok, it is amazing how tiny this unit is and how much more it holds. This is a tiny device, very solid and holds a massive amount of licenses. I like it so well I now wish I could authorize all of my software to it. This may not be the cheapest license dongle available, but the operation is so easy and I have never had a failure, so it is the least painful to use for me.

So far it's done its job. I had no issues loading my licenses and there hasn't been any trouble with my software reading them.

The only issue for me is the size. Super small equals super easy to misplace. I got a key chain for mine so it is less likely to be lost.

Overall, though, I am pleased.

I had a little difficulty registering this product. All screw ups on my end of the deal! Sweetwater was very helpful in assisting me and solving my problems.

It works. It does what it's supposed to do. But it's quite unfortunate to have to have it.

So many DAWs and much software have figured out ways to do online activation/software activation that works without requiring hardware. iLok's do sometimes fail, but generally this one I think is less likely to than the previous gens, being as its built better.

Nonetheless, I hate having to use iLok or pace for anything, being as convoluted and bloated as the process is... It's especially bad when working on a laptop, with an annoying dongle sticking out the side.

All that said, it's the best iLok that's been made yet.

You pretty much know exactly what you're getting with this. Its more compact and its construction is more sturdy than previous generations.

The only real downside is, well... its an iLok. Its 2016 (almost 2017) and, frankly, its insulting to be forced to use a dongle in order to use ProTools and other software for which you've purchased. It is a lazy authentication solution and is completely antiquated.

Yes, it's REALLY small... and admittedly does load your plugins fast (provided your computer is equipped w/ USB 3 ports). It's nice to have the Serial Number laser-etched on the backside just-in-case. But unless Pace requires you to use this new 3rd Generation model; quite frankly, it's just another iLok.

As with any ilok, all three generations seem to work flawless. The new iLok 3 is going to be really nice that it can hold over 3 times the iLok 2 which was just over 500 assets.
