I am a ceremony singer and have been performing live for 7 years. I just recently got into recording and purchased this last week to use for my demos. The build and audio quality on this unit is incredible. It is also user friendly and compatible with IPad OS which is perfect if you're someone like me who does not have a laptop. I highly recommend this interface. The mic I use with it is the Lewitt MTP W950. Shout out to those guys as well.

I had the ID24 and it was good but this little box is great for me since it's simpler to operate and just works. It sounds great, is easy to use, and I like how it isn't always on, like the ID24 was. This is powered by the usb-c so there is no annoying power brick or wall outlet needed. If you're recording one track at a time or podcasting, I highly recommend this! You can record a full band if you're recording one track at a time. You can't record a full drum set or dual mics on an acoustic guitar but I'm fine with that. I use EZ drummer for drums and EZ bass for bass....so I only need one input for my electric guitars. Then if I have need for vocals, I'll use this to record vocals after. It's a great unit. I have the monitor outs going to studio speakers and use it with my Mac when I'm not recording...listening to music, since it of course works as an external audio card interface, because that's what it is. I have my studio monitors connected to this for playback....just a pair of killer monitors, so I can listen to music, watch YouTube, or record music all with this. If I get into recording full bands again I'll get another rack unit that allows for more than 8 or 16 inputs at once but for now, this is all I need. Takes up very little space on my desk as well.

I love the simplicity of this audio interface and it's a great quality product.

This interface is pretty much everything I needed it to be. Even looks great and feels like a well built device. The only issue it is very particular about what kind of power it's getting and bus power is the only option. It really seems to require nothing but USB C (output) power to function 100%. Giving it the minimum requirement (according to Audient) of 0.9A @ 5V seems to be enough to record fine but for some reason it just won't work properly in a Zoom or Discord call unless it gets more power.

Even using USB C to USB C the device is basically using cables as a consumable. Every few months I have to replace the cable with another that reaches the requirements. This may be unique to my device. I don't know as I don't think I've seen anyone else with this issue. But, in my opinion if your device performs better with more power than most USB ports can provide it should probably be capable of doing so in more than one way.

I've been using the Scarlett Solo 3G up to now but it recently became problematical, drop outs and scratchy pots so time for an upgrade.

iD4 is one heck of a step up!

Making music is FUN and iD4 is a key part of this

The Audient iD4 is my 4th interface, and all were from different manufacturers. It is well built and the layout and functionality are intuitive. I have not tried recording with it yet because I thought I had issues with downloading drivers or whatever and didn't want to attempt recording before setting sample the rate and buffer size in the iD4.

In reality, everything had been downloaded simply and perfectly on the first attempt. I just didn't realize it because the task bar icon is white and was virtually invisible due to my task bar's extremely light, almost white color.

So this review is not about the unit. It's about customer service. I emailed support concerning the problem I thought I was having and got a courteous, helpful response within 24 hours. Repeat, rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat.

The quality and promptness of the customer support was beyond anything I could have expected or even hoped for.

You can buy a $ focusrite and have direct monitoring out of the box or you can go with the winners at audient and the firmware literally won't work (it's stuck on Initialising 3 every time you try opening it) and their IT support will get back to you in 3 weeks with no solutions.

I recently discovered how much better vocals and acoustic guitar recordings sound in my 2-story foyer / staircase than it does in my usual recording space. But I really didn't want to disassemble and lug my 19" 8-mic Apogee interface back-and-forth to the foyer every time I wanted to record. So I purchased the iD4 Mk-II interface for recording in those situations. It's fully-powered by my laptop through the included USB-C cable, making the entire setup work without any AC adapter.

The sound of the mic preamp is excellent: simply transparent. The metal case and knobs / switches all feel sturdy. It easily drives my Sony headphones which have a fairly low impedance.

I was debating purchasing the iD4 (single mic) or the iD14 (two mic preamps). I almost always only need one mic, and I liked that the iD4 has a dedicated DAW / MIC mix level knob. The iD14 doesn't. It's super-convenient to just turn that knob to adjust the mix in my headphones while keeping my DAW app front-and-center on my laptop's display, versus having to switch back-and-forth between my DAW and the Audient app to adjust the mix on my computer with the iD14.

Installation and setup on my MacBook Pro was effortless and it has had glitch-free operation with Logic Pro. I'm really happy with my purchase. Highly-recommended if you only need one mic preamp.

This is my first interface and using Neural DSP plug-in's for guitar. Works great, sound is good and easy to use with my MacBook. Michael Eads hasn't steered me wrong yet and I only buy my stuff from Sweetwater. That 2 year warranty is awesome and their tech support is awesome too. Had to call to get advice on how to get low latency and problem solved in 3 minutes!

Definitely hear the difference coming from a Focusrite 2i2 to this new Audient. My playback audio is very clean and my recording input is very clean, maybe even too clean for some types of songs. Nonetheless it is worth purchasing!

I was experiencing continuous disconnection from my Mac once it went to sleep. I would have to unplug and plug it in again to reconnect the interface. I got tired of it and I was about ready to give up and return it, but I decided to try something before ditching it, I upgraded the connector cable to an "overkill" USB-C4, 40Gbps data cable (ridiculous, I know) that I had in my computer leftover parts box...
I have never again gotten disconnected since. So now I can confidently say that I love this interface, and with that cable upgrade, I highly recommend it. (I still don't understand why the cable that came with it was not enough). For those who may be struggling with the same issue, I would encourage you to upgrade your cable...

do not be fooled by the price point, this unit could easily have been sold for much more! The loopback feature alone make it worth its weight in gold. Highly Recommend this product for a mobile, sturdy, bus powered set up. Conversion is awesome with my Slate VSX headphones. Have not tested the mic preamps but from what I have heard, they are solid. Audient really delivered on this product, I will be exploring more of their products in the future.

I've had a blast with this device so far. Sound is super clean, gain controls are smooth and gradual. The manual / documentation is concise and easy to understand. Drivers and software are simple and unobtrusive.

I primarily use the Audient for single instruments into a DAW (guitar, or a mic for voiceovers). It has just enough knobs to get the job done, but extensible if desired as well. (the Scroll Control feature is starting to grow on me). My old interface had a separate power cord, whereas the Audient gets its power from the USB cable which helps prevent extra wires. That alone is the thing I enjoy most about this.

Most newer PCs shouldn't have a problem, but if you don't have an onboard USB-C port, you may need to also grab a Type-C to Type-A USB cable as the box only includes a USB-C cable (no adapters).

This is the hands-down the best audio interface I have used.

I do professional voice overs and people can't tell the difference from when I used to use a $2,500 pre-amp, to this much cheaper and affordable one.

Love that all the controls are on the top surface so very easy to see knob settings and what's going on meter wise etc

I strongly recommend this, over any other one no matter what the cost.

This review is written from the perspective of a Linux user so some of this may not apply to other platforms. Tested on Fedora 35 and Ubuntu 20.04

Interface build quality appears very good. Design however is very flawed. Volume button is digital and resets to zero for every use. Interface has no power button and stays turned on even if you put your system to sleep.
When you plug it in, it is recognized immediately and correctly. Audio quality is great. Unfortunately, that is were the good news ends. If you put your system to sleep or reboot your system, interface locks up and does not work. The only way to fix it is to unplug it and plug it back in. So basically, every time you wake your system or restart, you will have to unplug the USB cable, plug it back in and adjust the volume. That gets old pretty quick.

I contacted Audient support but refused the help because I use Linux. This was expected, but it's still worth noting.

Thanks to great support from Sweetwater I was able to replace this with a UAD Volt 276 which is much better in every imaginable way.

Still, if you don't mind plugging this thing in and out before every use it will work, but I would not recommend this for anyone running Linux.

ok so I bought the m1 Mac to learn guitar as I did not have a computer. after playing for a year with various amps and pedals on myn$ guitar I was never able to find tones that I actually really liked. So I decided to get the audiobox usb96 because I wanted to try the neural dsp archetype Petrucci plugin and see what this m1 Mac could do. all of sudden I was blown away by the tones I was getting. Still my Bose computer speakers sounded muddy and crackly so I contacted Sweetwater and they suggested a pair of Yamaha hs5's. that was a total game changer, now everything was sounding so much bigger and clearer, except the speakers would clip and crackle unless I set my gain to its smallest setting on the audiobox and played at a low volume. I carried on this way for a few months just playing quietly but I was getting the clipping even on YouTube videos and such. So I finally realized the weak link in the chain must be the interface so after watching many reviews and speaking to the guys at Sweetwater I decided for the $ price point this was the way to go. Honestly I didn't know if it was going to fix the clipping and crackling but I figured best case scenario it would, worst case I return the id4.

so after plugging it in I tried YouTube and guitar videos and no clipping!!!!! then I plugged my guitar in and started up the archetype Petrucci and I was absolutely blown away by how creamy and smooth and rich and clear the sound was. I wish I had better language to describe how different and how much better my overall initial experience was, I could not believe my guitar could ever sound this way. my expectations were completely shattered and I would strongly recommend to anyone don't go cheap on your audio interface just because its your first one. I haven't tried any other interfaces besides the two mentioned but I can't imagine id be happier than this.

apart from the auditory experience, the unit is solid and heavy and the knobs feel great to the touch. the levels are so easy to see and understand with the led indicators and being a complete amateur I'm sure more experienced individuals could really get a lot out of this. As for me I'm 100% satisfied

I'm a newbie but an extremely particular, fussy, demanding one, annoyingly so. Last fall I began the hunt for a high-quality mic and interface for recording radio stories and an audiobook trilogy. Many weeks of research led me to the Austrian Audio OC18 mic and the Audient ID4 MkII. The combination is stunning – wonderful rich, clear tones, and, to my ears, a silent audio chain. Using the Audient is uncomplicated, and the controller feature (which lets you adjust settings in the DAW via a large knob on the Audient) is slick. This combination is neither the cheapest nor the most expensive, but I can't imagine wanting anything else. It's SWEET!

This was my first audio interface... after scouring numerous reviews on similar rated and priced interfaces, I went with the Audient iD4

Ok, I love my new iD4, absolutely love it. The product itself, the quality and ease of connectivity and use for applications that I was already using has just enhanced the final product.
However, Audient's customer support is lacking very much. Here's the scenario:
I'm a voice actor and I wanted to improve the "sound floor" in my recordings. The iD4 gets that for me. Excellent!
It also ships with a Cubase package, which really wasn't a selling point for me. I bought an iPad Mini 6 so that I can do quick recording without having a computer fan in the background. It's small, powerful and easy to set up with my iD4. I can be in and out of the vocal booth. Audient has all these download details for getting the Desktop version set up, but absolutely zero details about the iOs version, even though they state "it comes with iOS version". So, I downloaded Cubasis LE 3 for iOS anyway. It's a demo. That is, until you plug your registered iD4 into you iOS device, then it becomes what I thought was a full version. But nope! You can't share or export your projects. I messaged Audient about it before I upgraded, but never heard back from them. So, I upgraded to the $14.99 version in order to send the recorded data to my Mac and edit with Reaper.
I mean it's only $....but this whole process tells me that their promotion was incomplete. If you say something is included, make that happen.
And on Steinberg's part, exporting and sharing should be included even in a limited or demo version. I mean, how are we supposed to really hear the quality if we can't export to another device, or send to a colleague to check the performance.
So, Sweetwater gets 100% for their suggestion for me to upgrade to the iD4. I LOVE IT!!!
Audient gets a 50% because you need to have the customer support that is just as strong as your product.
And Steinberg gets a 25% because the excruciating labyrinth to get the codes, download and install the products is very aggravating. And having a not fully functional demo is a terrible idea. I still don't have Cubase on my Mac, I use Reaper.

I was shocked by the improvement in the detail of the sound and the iD4's all metal build quality.

Lovely preamp, Audient calls them "console grade' and it seem to be a major step up from my Focusrite SOLO

The dual headphone socket will be an added advantage and the digital conversion is clearly better than anything I've auditioned before.

USB C connecter suited me the best as I don't have to go for another usb hub for my macbook.

Great for home studios and in my opinion is the best in this price range.

After 6 Months use : Extremely happy, I made a great choice.

It's extremely well built, it looks beautiful next to my MBP on my desk and it has extremely low sound floor.

It changed my audio experience like nothing else and really brought my music to life.

It is so transparent that it brought forward defects in my music production allowing refinement that I didn't know I needed.

Brilliant interface

Ok, so I was looking for an interface with USB-C since I was issued an Apple M1 MacBook Air at work. I needed something with a very low noise floor. Out of the Audient iD4, the Universal Audio Volt and the SSL2...the Audient has the lowest sound floor and was recommended by Greg Lanning at Sweetwater. Upon using it, I was blown away on how much cleaner my recordings were. I was recording straight to a Zoom H6, so the Audient is a HUGE step up for my small studio. it is perfect for Voice Over work.
Next upgrade will be a microphone...But for now, I'm very happy.

My microphone was always crackling and when I was listening to audio it made random noises and it was really annoying.

The product is really really well built but is not the best due to its software. I get major crackling and terrible audio quality from the output but my microphone sounds great coming from it. Not to mention that the box it comes in makes the AI really well packaged. If it wasn't for the drivers id give it 5 stars.

My Sweetwater rep recommended this as an upgrade from my old Presonus Audiobox 22 for powering my Shure SM7B. I already had a Cloudlifter CL1 for boosting gain with my SM7B, but the Audiobox just wasn't cutting it for clarity and had too much noise. The iD4 MKII preamp is crystal clear and has extremely low noise even when you are pushing the gain to the edge. There is enough gain to run the SM7B without a cloud lifter, but I still have mine in the chain since I already had one laying around.

I love the controls, meters, and ability to use the volume encoder knob to control parameters in my daw. For the money, you can't go wrong with this interface.

I bought my iD4 during the Covid-19 lockdown for Zoom and music workshops as I wanted better sound quality than than my laptops built-in audio.

For a solo artist, an iD4 plus a good mic or two is really all you need.

The console preamp is surprisingly good at this price, the DI has a nice, warm tone and the ADDA conversion is stellar.

An affordable and NECESSARY musician's tool for today's times

Been using it for a while and I'm now happy to confirm that the recordings it delivers are superior in every way.
The new ADDA are standout,way,way better than anything on the market at this price.

I love my Audient iD4 mkii. I was a Focusrite Scarlett user for several years and it took me a long time to finally make the switch. But enough people in the know kept saying it's better, so I went for it. They were right. From the simple stuff, like the monitor mix so I don't have to turn off my monitors to avoid feedback when I record (like I had to with the Scarlett), to more importantly, the superior preamps which are way more noise and distortion free, to slick stuff like the iD button that turns the output level into a smart scroller. It's making editing my older stuff a challenge because it sounds better, but making recording new stuff a pleasure. A great product.

I just bought the Mk2 for the same $'s as I bought the Gen 1, 4 years later !

Every single aspect has a small but significant upgrade :
1. USB-C connection instead of the old usb style.
2. More headphone headroom, so, even if I crank it quite loud, the sound comes out clean.
3. The pre-amps are ridiculously clean and very warm sounding.
4. ADDA spec's are now out of sight better and the sound is ridiculous for the price,massively better and cleaner than the competition
5. The latency/buffer handling is also improved.

It is built like a tank! All metal housing, sturdy and has weight. The convenience of having gains, a large volume control, buttons and monitor lighting (which are bright, clear and accurate) on top of the interface is the way to go. Gain controls have a nice weighty feel to them. The the sound is fantastic! Clear, bright and accurate through monitors or headphones. The JFET input is warm and clear for guitar, that sounds absolutely great! I would've liked an a/c power supply with on and off, but that is not a deal breaker and would be a significant price increase. Overall, this interface is miles above others under $200.00 for sure. Ease of use and impeccable sound make it an outstanding buy.

Because the internet was raving over the paper specs of this new audio interface, I had to give the iD4 MkII a try. And let me tell you that this is the best audio interface that you can buy for your money right now. I get exceptionally clean recordings from my bass guitar and dynamic microphones. The metal frame's build quality is superb. On top of the best mic pre and converters you can get for the $, the modern design makes it the perfect package for small home studios. I am very satisfied with my purchase, and I hope you can experience the same.

Money well spent! The Audient iD4 MK ll is a rock solid piece of equipment literally. An all steel build. The same high quality A-D/D-A convertors that are used in their high end products. This unit has a multitude of useful features your going to love.
I have been producing and playing music for 30+ years. I came to this product after I lost use of my Presonus firestudio 10x10 due to an upgrade to my computer, putting in SSD drives and a fresh install of Windows 10. POOF ! Windows no longer supported the firestudio. I was freaking out. $ down the drain, and since I was no longer recording my band or others and covid interfered with live performance, I was back to working on my personnel catalog of tunes I never had a chance to finish. So I bought a Presonus 2x2 which in my opinion was noisy. RF interference, pops and crackles. So back to Sweatwater and my awesome sales Rep. Derek Kemp, who upgraded me to the iD4 MKll. this unit is SO QUIET it scared me ! Plus my Guitars and synthesizers (arturia V 8) play flawlessly with the warmth of the iD4 MK ll. I'm a graduate of Full Sail in Florida where they have a room full of ASP8024 Classic consoles so I know about the Audient sound and how smooth it tracks, with little EQ needed.

My previous backup interface started to struggle with the drivers and would loose USB connection on a regular basis and I was recommended the new iD4 Mk2 as a replacement.

I'm totally happy with my purchase,does exactly what I need it to do, has been rock solid so far and being bus powered means I can go mobile at any time I choose

Clean,detailed recordings and a nice Di and it does sound like the Classic ASP8024 !

Just super nice and sleek interface that does what it should!
It is super user-friendly and the sound quality is good.
For streamers that don't need a mixer, this is a great interface to connect your XLR mic to your computer.

Product overheated like crazy and the preamps are NOT good. I had to crank the mic gain up to 7 just to get a decent signal and it still sounded distorted (using a condenser microphone). Only reason I give this three stars instead of one is because the customer service was absolutely fantastic. I called them up, told them what was wrong and they exchanged it with no problem whatsoever.
