Awesome live vocal mic

By Jimmy Becker from Los Angeles on December 13, 2023 Music Background: Professional touring solo acoustic rock ‘n’ roll guitar stand vocalist. Traveling music man.

So glad that I purchased this microphone. The response is not only rich and full, just looking at the EQ response on my mixer tells the story. More heat from low to high and everything in between.

Very good

Very good microphone

Awesome mic on stage

By Robert from MADISON, AL on August 28, 2022

I was worried I'd get a lot of feedback because I sing and play keys not too far from a very loud and not caged drummer but to my surprise that has not been an issue in the supercardioid position this mic offers, I couldn't have a made the right choice without Caleb's help, Thank you so much Caleb and Sweetwater for such amazing customer service experience

Best...Mic...I...Have...Ever...Used!

By Jett from Tallahassee on March 9, 2021 Music Background: Jammer.

I use the Sennheiser 965 at home in my music studio. I love it! It is incredibly smooth with EQ set at 12 o'clock. I have a few other mid-priced mics, but this one out-performs all of them. I highly recommend it.

Best mic ever!

A absolutely great sounding Mic. This mics features present your voice in a totally great new way. I just love it.

Incredible!

By Sweetwater Customer on December 13, 2018 Music Background: Vocals/Sound/Worship Leader/Bass Vocalist

An incredible microphone! Picks up everything I need in a microphone. The optional settings are handy as well! The Sennheiser e965 and the Audio Technica ae5400 are my two favorite microphones. The AT is gained hotter with maybe a little more low end. I am a bass vocalist, and the e965 still has great lows with a little more edge which I like. Cannot go wrong with this mic! I like it better than any other mic I have tried, Neumann, Shure, EV, Heil, etc. Go for it! Condensers to me sound better than dynamic. Much more presence and clarity.

One of the BESTS! As always!

I own a Sennheiser e945, I love it but I was looking for something better. I've been eying this flagship piece for a long time, and got it immediately when I saw the price drop. Could't be happier! It sounds slightly warmer than e945, but the little details that it delivers... you will be amazed! I'm a male tenor singer and I've tried SHURE KSM9HS and Earthworks SR40V, I have to say the e965 is way superior (in my opinion).

The e965 also delivers your realest voice.

GREAT Tambre

By Sweetwater Customer on April 19, 2016 Music Background: endorsed professional vocalist

I am a professional vocalist too. My vocal range extends all the way from D5- C#6 (D6 if I'm pushing it) and I needed a microphone that would be able to capture the breadth of my vocal range. Enter the e965. This mic has a much longer grille than, say, the SM 58, which means more time for low notes to get to the capsule. Also, bigger is better. Believe me. My only con is I have found this microphone to not withstand the physical demands of occasional local gigs. The biggest thing is phantom power. Many clubs I go to simply don't have it. They don't have boneless wings after 2 AM and they don't have phantom power. If Trump was president, he would figure this out. Nevertheless, the vast majority of the time, I have to simply "project" more to match the level of the drum kit when the mic won't turn on. It's actually quite irritating. My second complaint is feedback. My live rig consists of two sets of stereo monitor wedges (positioned both in front and in back of me), side fills for upstage and downstage, Front fills facing me, 1 "thumper" drum throne, and 1964 ears in ear monitors. My best guess is the engineer didn't bother to ring out the room. I also like to have a backup e965 right next to me which is always on in case the first one breaks mid set. Overall a great mic, but can't handle the feedback.

Excellent Mic for high end use

By Alexander Hast from United States on April 17, 2015 Music Background: professional musician, vocals, guitar

I used to work with the Sennheiser ProfiPower for many years in the 80's and after its demise I switched to AKG C535 EB, which I still use on occasion, to a Shure Beta 58A which is still my (dynamic) backup, to a Sennheiser e865 and then to a Sennheiser e965. In between there were also EVoice, Blue Encore 200's and other interesting choices.

As you might suspect, the Sennheiser e865 sounds pretty much like the Supercardioid option of the Sennheiser e965 (and it really sounds great). But the cardioid option sounds absolutely amazing and gives you all the nuances anyone could look for, studio quality sound and some freedom of movement in front of the mic. So, yes, it is worth the money if your voice is your main instrument. If not, go with the e865, which is also a great choice.

Perfect live mic (seriously)

By Steve Steele from Houston on October 15, 2013 Music Background: pro recording and touring

The specs on this mic tell me one thing - this is as close as has come so far to a great large diaphragm stage condenser mic, but with some feedback rejection tricks. I'm a pro singer in the SW area of the US, and sound-men freak out when they see this mic coming. "Oh no, the singer won't sing on a 58! What do we do??" Then I show them how a trained singer handles a mic. No feedback, huge vocal sound.

The specs also tell me that Sennheiser took this mic seriously. Hey Sennheiser, I'm working on an emdorment with you guys. Let's get this done.
Anyway, endorsement or not, I paid for this mic, and would do so again.

As a nominated vocalist, I care about using the best equipment for my voice as possible. I tried the Neumann KMS 105 and 104 , and while they were crystal clear and nice, I was concerned with feedback issues and depth.

Look at the specs on this Sennheiser e965. Each one of these are invaluable for a stage condenser and I was shocked that Sennheiser went the distance to complete this mic. I would have designed the e965 exactly the same. No changes.

1" dual-diaphragm capsule (perfect for powerful baritones like myself)
Switchable pre-attenuation (-10 dB) accommodates singers with powerful voices
Low-cut switch, which reduces ambient noise, rumble , and wind noise
Switchable pick-up pattern (cardioid/super-cardioid)

What mics come with all of these features? None. This is THE stage LARGE condenser king. Thanks Sennheiser. Now, can we talk? :)

No problem cutting through

By The Delta Blues Explosion from Louisiana on May 24, 2018

I love this mic. It cuts through my band and every single word is audible. I"m a soul blues singer ala Sam Cooke. It"s not the best but I run it through a tube pre live and only a Roland street cube at practice with a full band and it"s incredible. It takes a great mic to capture the nuances of my voice. This does it well. Even whispering. You do have to be dead center singing. You can"t lazily sing from the side as it won"t pick up as well. Would like to try a comparable AKG but it"s great. I paid full price also. Again, try some if you can before you buy.
