Dynamic little headphone amp
If you're reading this, you already know you want one. I read all the reviews, too. Imagined the possibilities. Wanted one, but was on the fence. Then? I bought one. Sweetwater got it here fast, like they always do. Now I have portable, accurate, and useful classic rock tones that I can crank through my headphones. Whenever. Wherever. Just like I hoped it would. And? My practice time has increased lately. Which, really, is why I bought it in the first place. Because the alternative to this is usually too loud for some people, especially at night...
Super happy, overall. You will be too, if you get one.
Very Cool Device
I have the older vox ac30 along with the speaker cab. I got to looking at the new amplugs and, the classic rock caught my attention. Very nice upgrades and improvements, on/ off switch, 3 levels of overdrive, 3 levels of chorus, delay and, reverb. The guitar plug rotates instead of in one position. How I use mine is 4'guitar cable into a mono 1/4" female coupler, amplug plugged in, phone into aux input on the amplug, either headphones or 1/8" out to aux input on my amp. The sounds that come from this amplug are really good enough to use at a gig! I've been working on my slide skills and, this little device is perfect!
For the bucks spent this is Superb!!!
Highly recommend this item to anyone, beginner or pro.
Vox classic rock
Great sound, very easy to use. Does take batteries
Good practice amplug
Great for practice at home. The sound is very good for my classic songs. I am able to concentrate on practice without disturbing anyone in the household and without being disturbed by anyone.
Sounds almost like the first time I tried a Vox amp in Best Buy
Amazing quality compared to more off-brand headphone products. Actually sounds so voxy and is fun messing around with at quiet times. Only possible thing to make it better I think would be adding buttons for gain, tone, and volume that increase with a volume signal or something. Beggars can't be choosers, but players should get this
Late night practice
Great for practicing and not disturbing anyone. Great sound from this little guy and the effects are awesome! Buy this !
Great for late night practicing
Love this little guy it is awesome!great tones, great sound from it too!
Great tone for a headphone amp, but sone issues.
I got my "Classic Rock" Vox headphone amp today, and have enjoyed practicing with it. I can get "my tone" better with it than with my "Rockman" I bought back in the 80s for much more money than this cost, and it doesn't use a whole bunch of batteries. My only problem is ergonomic. These headphone amps are meant to give us practice ability while we sit on the sofa or in an easy chair and practice while disturbing no one. But if your guitar has the output jack on the side of the right bout, the position of the plug in headphone amp makes this hard to do. The position of the amp tends to be drug against the sofa/chair, and adjustments to it are impossible. This may not be a problem if you are using a Strat or SG with a top mounted output jack, but with a LP or a PRS, it might well be. A solution might be a short cord with 1/4" jacks male on one end and female on the other for those of us who want to sit down and practice. But in any event, this as a toneful practice headphone amp at a very reasonable price. And though it is designated "Classic Rock" it cleans up nicely and the gain control will drive it into what I would call metal.
Wow!
Didn't know what to expect, but other reviewers seemed impressed. Glad I gave it a try. Sounds amazing through headphones and it's perfect to throw in the bag for a vacation or to mess around with in an apartment. Service at Sweetwater is impressive.
Box headphone amp
I absolutely love it. A set of instructions would have been nice but I did figure it out. If they could add a metronome that would be cool too. But it's great for just walking around and entertaining yourself
Guitar Silencer
I must admit this is my first amPlug, and due to so many choices it was hard to decide on which to get. This little gadget works great and is pretty easy to use. I haven't used it extensively, but I figure it will work really well if I ever want to play on the back porch and not have the neighbors complain.
excellent practice amp!!!
I bought this little amp a while back and I use it a lot,I like it but its hard to adjust the controls when I have it plugged in to my guitar .so I went on the Radio Shack web sight and bought a sterio headphone coupler.I plug the guitar in one end and the Vox amp plug in the other end of the coupler then plug in my headphones.now I can set the amp plug on my lap and tweek the controls.this thing sounds amazing,I take it on vacation ,when I loose power in a storm or just playing it .the effects sound great but it would be nice if you could tweek them but Iguess being that small ,its kind of impossible.but thats ok I love it anyway.Im thinking about getting the blues amp plug next.and I will be buying it from Sweetwater.
Perfect
The perfect gadget I was looking for. I'm just learning electric guitar, and being conscientious person I am LOL I didn't want others in the house you have to endure my learning curve
So I plug this in the guitar, headphones in and practice practice practice sounds good and even has options such as clean or overdrive.
Great little amp
This little amp sounds great with with headphones. You get a lot for your money
Best Vox Headphone Amp?
I don't typically give fives. Received yesterday and pretty thrilled with this thing. Already had the AC30 version but wasn't satisfied with gain on it, so watched youtube vids to see what other versions would be like.
"Music Bliss Malaysia" demos all versions inall modes very well as a reference.
In the orange gain mode, gain setting of 3 gives nice ACDC crunch; 6-7 does Limelight nicely; 9 or switch to red gain mode to get it to chug well. Was surprised that it still supported lead well with low setting of reverb and delay. The "Classic Rock" version may be the most versatile version of the amplug to span range of styles without having to buy lead, metal editions.
Classic Rock, of course.
So tiny! Great effects options. Always wanted one of these. No more excuses to not practice . . .
Vox AP2CR Classic Rock
Great crystal clear and dirty sounds, overall this Vox amplug 2 is a really great buy, I always have great shopping experiences, I enjoy buying from Sweetwater, Thanks you Drew Foster for taking good care of me, I appreciate it.
Regards.
Great Headphone Amp
My Rockman died a few years ago, and I've been looking to replace it. The Vox Classic Rock headphone amp exceeds the old Rockman.
The Vox is small and packed with a great range of sounds that you can fine-tune. It's easy to use, and intuitive. The three onboard effects are good.
The best part is that I can put away my multi-effects pedal and the 15-foot long guitar cable that has been cluttering up my small room. I live in a place where I can't plug into an amp, and not the problem is solved. I plan to buy a couple of the other models to add variety.
For the price the Vox is fantastic.
Great product!
I bought this for my teenage son who wanted to bring his electric guitar to school with him but no amp. This way he got to practice and not bother anyone, plus he can practice anytime he wants at home now and not bother us while we're sleeping. I didn't know this kind of thing existed and just googled it and Sweetwater came up. Sweetwater is the real deal and has excellent customer service.
Even better than I thought
This thing is super cool and is more sophisticated than I expected. Buy one and see for yourself. For $... it"s simply amazing!
Excellent!
Best little amp I have ever used. Great sound! Easy to use! I bought it on a whim and never regretted it. Should have bought a VOX when they were first introduced! Looking forward to the next generation.
Great Practice Amp
Very pleased with this.
Loving It!
As a beginner, its been useful in that I don't have to haul around a full sized amp!
Great amp for playing late at night
I own three of these and love them. The Clasic Rock AP2-CR, has a very loud feedback/sqeeling noise and you can barely her the guitar through it. I can plug any of the other two in and they work perfectly. I have referred several people to VOX and purchased 10 or better of these as gifts. I would highly recommend these and I hope to support on the one I own that is faulty...
What a surprise!
I've been playing for fifty-three years. A couple of decades ago I had an original Scholtz Rockman but sold it after about five years, Recently I realized I wanted another one for home practicing because it has chorus, delay, compression, and good clean and distortion settings, but they are simply not out there in good working condition at a price I can justify. Besides, the power supply and battery issue was a real pain, and the Rockman is large. So, after watching some YouTube reviews I decided to take a chance on the Vox amPlug Classic Rock and I have to say I could not be more surprised. It does lack the compression of the Rockman, but for Pete's sake, it only set me back $40 and still has two each of reverb, chorus, and delay settings, plus clean and distortion options! Coolest of all, it maintains the last used settings between sessions. I highly recommend this little personal amp. Outstanding value!
Great classic rock sound
I keep this in my office with a guitar for quiet practice! Way better than trying to practice without an amp. The effects are cool and it sounds just like my amp at home.
Great Audio
I was blown away with this little amp. I really like wandering my house or yard while jamming
My wife is thankful too ... noise wise
SO FUN!
Only problem I've had with it was that I couldn't hook it up to my speaker and play it, but other than that, amazing sound! the FX is fun to play with, and now my roommates don't get cranky with me about playing too loud. Must have!
I like it!
My first impression of it was really good, the more I use it the more I like it, well worth $. Great tones, easy to use, the sound effects are a nice bonus. I'm having fun walking around the house with this and not being tied down with a cord.
Vox Headphone amp
Everything it was advertised to be, really like it, & compact.
Fantastic Headphone Amp
You have to try it for yourself- this Vox classic headphone amp is even better than the AC30 model. It produces clear, strong tones that really pack a punch. This product is made of great quality and is affordable to boot. I highly recommend it.
So fun
I did not expect this to sound good. It sounds incredible. What a great way to practice.
Delivers as promised
The VOX AP2CR Classic Rock Amp plug has been amazing. Been using it for the past 5 months and it has been nothing short of spectacular. For what it is, a ultra compact an portable practice device, the clean and crunch tones you can get out of this product are amazing. I use it for practice all the time. Batteries have an amazing life span in it. I can even plug it into my PA through the headphone jack and play out to a larger speaker when i want full room sound. But where these product really shines is my late night practice sessions when I plug my headphones into it. I don't disturb anyone in the house yet I can dial up the gain and volume as much as I want. Don't hesitate to buy this product it delivers on every promise it makes.
VOX headphone guitar amp, classic rock
I had purchased the acoustic version before Christmas when they were on sale just to try them out to see how well they would work. Fell in love with it because I travel so much it's an easy way to take my electric guitar with me anywhere I go and play without waking up the entire hotel complex. I waited for the second generation of VOX headphone guitar amp to get the classic Rock version, it get some great tones for such a small device
Worth every penny
Great for quiet time practice. Works exactly as advertised. Very nice voicing and effects. Clean to dirty with delay and reverb and vibrato. I thought that it was starting to short out, but just changed batteries and was back in business. Sweetwater service is outstanding.
Box AP2CR Headphone Amp
Used this last night. Sounds great and minimal disturbance to others in the room.
Massive improvement over 1st version
I owned about 5 of the 1st generation VOX Amplugs - I liked them that much. I have a newborn at home and even before that, my wife does not appreciate mediocre electric guitar blaring through the house. So these are indispensable to me. However, the original Classic Rock was probably my least favorite of the ones I tried. It's based on a "Marshall" sound, but I found the earlier version too muddy, even on single coil.
So when I had to try out one of the new ones with the added effects and EQ mods, I got this one hoping that there were changes to the tone. Turns out I was right - the AP2CR Classic Rock retains the low end "thump", but has a much more usable mid and high end range. Which is kind of the whole point of a "British" heavy rock sound in the first place.
As other reviewers have noted, the casing is plastic and somewhat fragile, though I've never come close to breaking one for home use. I also agree that some of the effects are set to frustrating levels - particularly the reverb, which is a bit too aggressive. But the delay is set at a pretty typical 350ms - 400ms range, and it's a blast to use. Not a chorus guy, but that is there as well. Coming from someone who played and loved the originals, this is nothing but an improvement with added features at the same price point. Between iOS modeling softer and these (even faster and more convenient) little devices, there really is no excuse for not finding a way to pick up and play guitar as much as you want.
vox amp
so much out of so little
These little headphone amps are great!
Great, though I have a very nice pedal system and monitor headphones I generally use, I got one of these so I could practice other places without lugging equipment with me.
To my surprise, they even sound great with standard iPhone earbuds which is a plus because sometimes i don't want to wear over the ear monitors.
Sounds are great, it takes some tinkering with to find the sounds that work well for particular music your playing. I pretty much keep my effect on reverb, but the delay and tremolo sound good as well.
The only thing I don't like is how it is floppy when plugged in to guitar, the jack obviously can still move about when plugged in. It's minor and probably an easy fix if I ever get to annoyed.
I plan to get another in future, probably try the blues next or the ac30. I really don't think you can go wrong with any of em as with some tinkering, one can get all but the most heavy gain (which can probably be had on other models). I play mostly blues and jazzy stuff, early rock and very happy with classic rock version.
This will make you practice more just because it's so easy and you can use just your guitar and some earbuds.
Wish I had gotten this sooner...
I'm impressed by how great this thing sounds, as well as the versitility. I was looking for a silent practice solution and the clean, overdrive, distortion and aux input is what won me over. This thing really delivers. Clean, overdrive, distortion, reverb and delay. I don't need anything more than that. I think it sounds pretty good too! To me it doesn't sound as good as a real amp, but that's not the point of it. It works amazing for silent practicing! I use it on car rides, and also so I can be with my family and not have to lock myself in a separate room to practice. The aux channel is what is truly amazing to me. It was what truly won me over. I love being able to run through songs, or a metronome from my phone right into my headphones. The volume of the aux input and the guitar volume can be adjusted to taste. I love this little guy, and I should have gotten one a long time ago.
I rated this 4.5 stars because I would love to see this device rechargeable versus running on batteries, but that's just a personal preference.
Vox amplug 2 Classic Rock
Wow, sounds great ! Better than I thought it would. Using it max gain and all mid with light delay. Playing some rock n blues on my p90 tele it rocks ! Looked kinda cheap with the plastic and all but held on to the guitar well. This little amp plug really put the punch into night time practice. AUX helps with play along quite well. Pleased with my purchase and thanks for the candy too !
Great Tone
Somehow Vox emulates the classic AC30 sound, and it sounds great through headphones. NOTE: The quality of your headphones makes a HUGE difference. Also note that the 1/4" plug must be very carefully inserted and removed from the guitar output jack, or you could accidentally split the plug housing. I did this to mine. You need to remove it by pulling it out absolutely straight, and this is not always easy. But overall, a great investment.
Vox a plug class is rock
Very happy with the vox classic rock a plug, works great, Jacob at Sweetwater was great to work with again. This thing is great to practice with when you don't want to lug an amp outmar
Vox amPlug 2 classic rock
Great product! I couldn't believe how good it sounds through the headphones.
Great sound & practice tool
Great sound even better of some inexpensive pedals you can connect your phone and practice when you play a song or a video in you tube.
This is not for play live but is for sure a great practice tool.
just what i needed
I'm not the tech guy so I can't comment on that. What I can review is for me it was a value.I have gotten hours of joy from this and will get many more. I have a restriction on the loudness of noise (even if I consider it awesome or sometimes not) given and enforced by family members. It's a great tool to improve on fingering placement, picking or what ever i'm trying to perfect. I know if I screw up and not the whole planet because of the head phones. To be truthful I wasn't aware there were 9 selectable effects but the ones I have used give the sound a nice variety from a nice distorted sound to a cleaner yet punchy sound.
I'll have to play with it more. I believe if one wants a variety of sound it's worth while for the price. It's entertaining and practical at the same time. It plug into where the amplifier does on the guitar. My headphone jack fit nicely into the amp..There was a disc like battery provided which came in a small bag. It was easy to put in and to snap shut for the amp. The volume and other effects have control (dials) that turn to the left and right and respond quickly when turned. There is a small push button on off switch when pressed have different colors: red/green and there may be another i'm not sure yet. The volume is adequate if not more so if on would turn it up all the way.I'm a big guy with big mitts so i'm careful putting the amp in and out of my guitar. It's plastic and probably semi sturdy but I don't want to break it.All and all I would buy it again and tell a friend to check it out and buy it.
As Advertized
Pretty cool little box! Voiced to sound like a Marshall, accepts iPod for jam-along, sounds great thru decent headphones, clean, crunch, and OD, several effects-what's not to like?
Went through the included Chinese batteries pretty quickly, but my Duracell replacements are still going strong after 10 hours ++
Works as described
This with some headphones provides a way to practice without disturbing others too much. Great for when traveling and if in a home with others.
Better than I expected
For me, this is great for practicing outside while enjoying the two months of summer up north.
It sounds way better than I thought it would. My only complaint is the effects level is too high.
Good tool for practice
I have enjoyed playing with this headphone amp quite a bit. It is lightweight, has a lot of features for the price and is easy to use. The one set back I have experienced, is that the plug in jack does not lock in a position, it has loosened with use.
I can reccomend this type of amp for anyone who wants to practice with volume and effects that should not disturb others. I will likely purchase other styles of this headphone amp in the future.
Nice Headphone Amp
Got this so that I'd have a way to easily play early in the morning, late at night, and on the road. Sound is pretty impressive for how small it is, and in in terms of "classic rock" it gets closer than my actual amp to that sound. The only thing I'll say is that it seems pretty cheaply made, but I knew that going in from reading others reviews. Would be nice if the casing wasn't just plastic and if the plug itself felt a little more secure and unbreakable, but for the price and what I use it for, it works.
Great Product
It's really all I wanted. Something easy I could plug in to and go. No downloading something that needs tech support. I live in an apartment and I need to have volume without destroying lives. This was the tool.
Keeps my Wife happy
I,am just starting to learn to play the guitar and this little amp helps keep my wife happy from all the noise that i could be producing thru a regular guitar amp.It sets just a little to clumsily on the end of my guitar when i,am sitting to practice its kind of hard to get situated. But i really do like this device, it is truly a great little AMP.
Vox amPlug 2 Classic Rock Headphone Guitar Amp
My work requires me to spend many nights in hotels. This little amp allows me to play in hotels. The effects are good but, not pedal quality. Investing in a quality set of head phone is a must.
Works Well
It has a nice sound. I wish that it was made from a little better plastic. I am afraid it might not last long. I also wish it had rechargeable batteries. Otherwise it is pretty cool.
Great sound quality, good effects., Portable, play anywhere anytime and bother no one.
Close But No Cigar
This is the second one of these I've had and love them for their convenience and sound but not their construction. Most guitars have their jacks on the bottom bout which means if you play sitting down, the unit gets in the way. The jack on the unit gets loose, turns and, eventually the wires on it get disconnected (I've learned to pass my signal through a pedal...any pedal). I've resoldered both the ground wire and the hot wire on my first unit but it gave up the ghost after the second repair and hence the new one which I'll use carefully. Sound-wise it's great either clean or "dirty."
Not too bDay...
Nice size and sound considering...
Vox AP2CR amPlug Review
I like the small package this amp comes in, also the swivel guitar plug is very handy. The basic modes such as clean, distorted, and high gain are good. However, the selectable effects are fixed to levels that I don't really like - would be nice to have them adjustable.
NOT FOR EVERY DAY USE
This is not somthing you can use reliably every day. It's not very durable, and doesn't last long. It sounds great!... although it doesn't matter if it doesn't last. Mine lasted about 1 1/2 months of every day use. It swivels too much, the Jacks come loose, I'd reccomend getting somthing else. Not worth it.
Not great.
It was very flimsy, entirely plastic and not very flexible either. It broke within a few weeks of use. The tone wasn't very good either, it sounded kind of thin and there was no sustain.
waste of money
The sound is so low, that is almost the same as playing an electric acoustically!
Super noice
Very disappointed, super noice I need to get the volume to #2 in order to be able to play. Totally useless
The worst thing that I ever purchase
Disappointing, worthless.
Fantastic device, if you want something you can play during a funeral and not disturb anyone. MAX volume is so low it's barely noticeable. Even with "gain" turned up all the way, the volume is barely useable. However, then you have distortion provided by the "gain" that muddles the sound. Seriously, anyone giving this product more than one star is either too ashamed to state they wasted their money or doesn't understand electric guitars are supposed to sound loud.
