Much better than expected
Sounds better that I'd hoped and much much easier to use the various features/sounds than I thought after reading the instructions.
Love it and will be purchasing the other versions!
Wish I had had the Vox Clean starting out!
I started out in the era of big tube amps and was often exiled to basement or garage to practice. This little micro amp paired with Yamaha headphones allows me to listen to big electric sounds yet is sensitive enough to hear the subtle variations of my guitar's pickups.
Affordable, and great sound
I have enjoyed using this amp. I travel a lot and it's compact and puts out good sound. Great price for this amp.
Slick little box
I bought it to use with headphones without bothering anyone. It has a nice, full sound with my SG using clean mode and the lowest reverb setting. Certainly good enough for practice.
Wow
I've had this for two years and loved the convenience and portability of practicing silently anywhere. I never realized how good the sound quality was before, until I just recently bought a new set of Sony MDR 1AM2 headphones, plugged them in to this tiny battery powered amp , and was totally blown away by the quality of the sound. ( Headphones connected to a portable guitar amp? Yes!!! And you can use the headphones for great listening for anything else. They are phenomenal.)
Wow. Just wow.
Such an excellent range of sounds that I no longer have to drag my guitars into the basement. Tried it on both my electric 12-string (I could play "The Bells of Rhymney" all day) and my Epiphone Dot Studio (anyone for Neil Young?). I had to order a second one so that each guitar is covered.
Awesome Amp For Quiet Playing
I was very surprised with the power of this little headphone amp. Tons of effects, and if those aren't enough you can just plug it in to the end of your pedal board. Definitely worth the money, I don't even play on my cab at home anymore.
Very Nice Sound
This AmPlug Clean micro amp has a very good, clean natural guitar sound with both my Les Paul and Fender Strat Ultra.
I also own the Fender Mustang micro amp, and I can definitely say that the Vox sounds way better compared to the "clean" models of the Fender Mustang. The controls are simple.....Gain, Tone, Volume, a few effects, and 3 clean amp models.
My only "like to have" would be a USB rechargeable battery. It does eat batteries.
Good Clean Sound
The VOX Clean has a surprisingly deep sound, unlike the tinny sound of other micro amps. The controls are are simple, and give a nice clean natural guitar sound. I only wish it had a rechargeable battery.
Love this thing!
The Vox headphone amp is exactly what I needed. I'm really impressed with the number of voices they fit into such a small, compact, and versatile unit.
My only suggestion would be for better descriptions on the site as to how each version sounds. I wanted something with a very clean sound (which let the Metal version out immediately), and I had to go to the Vox website to read through the options before selecting.
Other than that, standard amazing Sweetwater service as always! This is only my third purchase from SW, and I can see why musicians are in love with these guys!
Perfect for quiet practice
Makes it easier to practice more often - don't need to be tied to an amp and a power outlet.
There's a great video comparing the models to help choose: search for "VOX AMPLUG 2: ALL MODELS COMPARED" on the you tube
Perfect for just you enjoying the playing
I don't play in a band so setting up an amp or having it around doesn't work for me. I have an archtop I like the sound on and I like to hear it both acoustic and electrified. When I want it electrified I do enjoy hearing it without bothering the rest of the family. So this allows me to still be around the family, allow them to do their things while I do mine and savor the sound of the guitar. When I want to practice at night late while they sleep, I get my sound and they get their sleep.
Just wish they switched where the headphones and aux jacks were. I have caught myself going to the wrong plug if I am not thinking about it. I used nail polish to mark the headphone part so that should take care of it.
Excellent product
My son recently began playing the electric guitar and requested this specific plug. It works wonderfully and is a great quality product.
VOX clean earplug amp
I'm new to playing. Although I pick things up quickly and have heard lord of music this gem blows me away. If it continues to deliver I'll be telling everyone whose interested!
Amazing little "amp in a tiny box"!
II boundd
I bought this (November 2019) to use when I practice in the evening so as not to disturb our neighbors (or my wife) as we live in a very quiet neighborhood on a small lake. Sound travels quite a distance here, even with windows closed, especially in the evenings when the neighborhood is really quiet. I need to be able to play fairly loud, through my pedals so I can dial them in for the different songs we will be playing on the weekend (church). Before I got this little ampPlug, it was a challenge to practice in the evening at a volume level needed to push the pedals. So I thought I'd give the ampPlug (clean version) a try. I plugged this into the last pedal in my chain (where I'd normally run a cable to my amp), plugged in my headphones, and WOW! I was blown away!! It far exceeded my expectations!
When I'm working on the songs for the weekend, I usually have the original song, or backing tracks, running through my iMac and pro monitor speakers which I play along with. Of course, this adds to the overall volume blasting out of my music room: my guitar and amp at high enough gain to drive my pedalsI and the tracks or song playing at similar volume through the monitors. I can't do this in the evenings (so far, no one has complained about my "noise levels" during the daylight hours!).
In order to hear the backing tracks/song thru the ampPlug, I ran a ⅛" mini jack cable from my iMac to the Aux-In of the Vox ampPlug, and it sounded great! Dialed in the volume settings on my computer and the ampPlug, and I was in business! I was able to practice all my music and dial in my pedals without bothering any neighbors or, more importantly, my wife! ;
Great for silent practice
Good for late night playing that won"t wake anyone in the house and more convenient than a desktop amp. Also better tone than any similar option.
Impressive
This might be the best piece of gear I've ever purchased for under $50. The sound is surprisingly good, and having it available has caused me to practice a lot more often (it is so easy to just plug in and play in places/situations where I would not have been able to use a normal amp). I like it so much that I'm ordering the Lead and Blues models next.
Although not intended to serve as such, this can also double as an inexpensive direct box between a passive electric guitar and an audio interface/DAW. It's certainly not a J48, but it works as well as any low-end DI I've seen, which is an added bonus if you need a compact, convenient, and affordable way to experiment and capture ideas at the creation stage without having to carry around another brick.
Good Product
Very good practice amp. I plug it into the end of my pedal board and it allows me to practice with headphones without disturbing others. It also sounds good and can accommodate listening to music at the same time.
What a great little gadget!
Wanted something to practice with (like a lot that purchase this I guess). I just wanted to be able to hear my guitar, but what a nice surprise. The effects are really really good. Makes practice even more fun. I might get another just to check out the different sounds. Well worth the money.
This is a great little device
I have had a blast listening to myself practice so that the family couldn't hear my screw ups.
Amazing Sound
I got a couple of these to practice with I got the clean and the blues ones, I cannot get over the sound quality of these. I am using a Gibson Les Paul Tribute 2017 T - Faded Honey Burst or a Epiphone Les Paul Tribute Plus - Vintage Sunburst played through with a set of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones. I just can't get over the sounds and tones I can get with these little buggers. From super clean rich to down and dirty. Make me wonder, time for a new amp, how good do Vox amps sound, I'll have to look into this. You want a good way to practice, get yourself one of these, you won't be disappointed. But you will hear every mistake you make.
Way better than I thought it would be
This sucker is amazing. I play guitar a lot more all over the house now. There is a ton of headroom. It sounds way better to me than the cleans on my Apogee Jam 96/ with Jam Up Pro.
If you think you might want this, definitely get it. You won't be disappointed. The middle setting with full gain is my favourite.
I've spent thousands this year on new guitar stuff, and this might be my favourite purchase (besides my John Cruz strat of course)
Hats off to Vox.
sweet little box
recently I purchased the.vox amplug 2 clean headphone guitar amp wondering if it was going to be any good,i am pleasantly surprised it really sounds good.my wife works from home and it was hard to find time to play.plug this in and your headphones on and play away. it is small and has several settings. I would recommend this highly..
great headphone amp for the price
Having bought a amplug AC30 a few years ago, i definitely had to get this newer version(actually two,i also bought the amplug2 blues.which i also reviewed)reminds me of the tom shultz rockman i bought back in the early 1980's.( for $250.00,it used 8 AA's which drained quickly. i have yet to change the batteries in either amplug's).the amplug has three different tonal settings,1st setting is a bright clean tone,2nd setting a clean dark fat tone, the 3rd is a overdriven tone. The effects while they don't have the versatility of an effects pedal, or programmable amp like my blackstar, they are still amazingly good considering the price.a must have for late night practice,I also on occasion run the amplug through a bose soundlink speaker, it sounds amazing.I can also plug it into my mp3 player and play along with songs. the rotating plug plug, a feature not available on previous amplug versions allows you to position the unit to allow for better access to the controls.i would definitely recommend this product.for the price you can't go wrong
Convenient pleasure
This little gadget has everything you need for great headphone playing complete with good guitar effects. I live in an apartment and it's great for practice or silent jamming anytime...day or night. Highly recommended
The Clean is a Tone-Machine
This unit is so darn good! VOX nailed the American tube amp sound, no question about it. Hard to wrap my head around such good amp tone living inside a tiny plastic box, but why ask why! Perfect for what it is and at this price, totally over the top value. I plugged a top quality Strat into it and what came out the headphone jack was amazing. Real Texas blues/SRV squank with reverb. Although it is an emulation of the real thing,it's close enough. Really close. Also, the delay adds a slap-back echo to go along with the reverb which is mighty useful. Perfect for headphone jamming when you need to keep the noise level down. It's also a lot of fun. If you have dirt or distortion pedals, add 'em in. Every guitarist should have one of these and a handheld tuner inside their guitar case. I'm sure happy I do! Hat's off to VOX, just go buy one already.
Much needed Clean addition
Perfect clean platform for late night playing/practice. A welcome addition for those who prefer to use a clean amp. This is a very "Fender" like clean. Guitar+Pedalboard+VOX Amplug2 Clean and a set of headphones. No waking the wife, kids, or neighbors.
This Thing Is SUPERB!!!
This thing is great. I had one of the early model AC30 amplugs for years and I love it being that I'm now in an apartment it's wonderful for practicing and I used it daily until this was received. But it was clunky and I would forget to turn it off and the batteries would die. Not to mention it had no effects and was sometimes hard to dial in a specific tone for a song. The new VOX amplug clean is so AWESOME. It has a a sweet fat clean tone which is perfect for running a Distortion pedal or tube screamer in to it for some dirt. It also has a dirt channel, lead channel and blues channel. It boasts 3 reverb options, 3 delay options and 3 chorus effects. No the effects aren't very good at all if your a tone chaser but the clean on this thing is killer. Plus it is constructed better and also has a auxiliary in so you can play along to music for good practicing or juts having fun. I would say buy it now. It is a Greta thing for any guitar player an did also allows you to practice songs more thoroughly with the aux input. I pre ordered this monster. Remember to use some good headphones. I use pretty good quality studio headphones and it makes a difference GET IT NOW!!!! Rock On Everyone!!!
Vox amplug clean its awesome!!!!!!
Great tone, great overdrive all this amp is great !!!!
siiiick
I love this. I love it so much. It's very convenient and I use it to practice at school and at home without disturbing anyway. Very high quality. Very sick, and I feel cool using it haha
brilliant
does everything it claims, awesome for playing/practice on the go or w/o an amp
just make sure you have spare AAA batteries, runs out quick when you are having fun haha
Winner of the Award
I hereby name the amPlug 2 as the greatest electric guitar accessory ever created. The features packed into this... unit are amazing. I grew up in the 60s and there were no options for "practice amps" let alone one that allowed the use of headphones and was battery operated. With no need for a cable, this thing allows you to practice anytime with a great sound . The effects although not "tweakable" are all reasonable settings and sound great. The battery life is quite good and I can get 9 hours on a set of rechargables. The three options on the Clean unit - Clean, Twin and Driven are all classic sounds and very good recreations of the real McCoys. You will use this far more than many other accessories you might purchase.
The unit itself could be tougher - the potentiometers and case are a tad flimsy but with reasonable care should be no problem.
If you are unsure of which model to purchase I suggest the Clean model - it will be useful for almost any playing style.
This is the "desert island" accessory...if I could only have one accessory this is it!
Super Great
I have used one for year. cautiously until the input broke. Very fragile,Make sure you use a right angled mini jack. I used it also for acoustic in noizy places. Beautiful. Also used it as effect through an actual . Great little gizmos. Gotta practice the new band tunes in the van on the way to the 1rst gig. bravo!

Great little headphone amp
Really nice for late night or quiet clean sound guitar practice. Surprisingly nice.
Surprizingly good
This has been a fun product to use with my Fender acoustic bass. Good sound and lots of fun without making my wife nuts-and it is so easy to use!
Not Worth $
its a Battery Gobbler, To much feedback on Delay, Reverb is ok, Chorus is useless. Would not Recommend at this Price.
Practice Quietly
It is nice for practicing quietly, but also a requirement. It is extremely easy to have the settings be too loud for the thing to handle before it just shuts off. Then it will maybe work again after some time has passed. I assume it has to do with volume, otherwise it is just completely broken and stops working arbitrarily.
Didn't last
Lasted about 6 months.
Headphone jack :(
I got one of these and it was great, for about 2 hours, then the 2 halves separate, ever so slightly, and the headphone jack broke into 2 pieces.
I took it apart and superglued it together and reassembled the 2 halves. That should have sorted it. But...
About 3 hours of playing later, the headphone jack popped off the circuit board, and was jiggling around in the little box. Lol So I soldered it back on the circuit board. 2 hours of playing later, it developed a short in the headphone output. It's another example of British engineering and crap quality control. I would not have been surprised if it started leaking oil.
I binned it.
I got a cheaper "Key house" device and so far I have not killed it.
Since I'm kind of a sucker, I preordered the Vox headphones. They are not delivered, yet, but hope springs eternal.
I wanted to like the Amplug, but it's build quality is not durable enough to fulfill it's primary purpose. I UnRecommend this product.
Nice idea, terrible plugs
Neither of the input ports will keep the plugs in . I'm using scotch tape because it's too time consuming to send it back.
Great idea but poor quality
The sound is nice and the concept is great, be able to play through headphones with no amp. But the plugs won't stay in. I shouldn't have to use scotch tape on a brand new device - using with a 2018 Blackburst Telecaster and 2020 AudioTechnica headphones. Too much trouble to return it.
Vox clean mini headphone amp
The vox mini amp works really great if you leave it plugged into the gituar. If you pull out the amp several times to play full amp, the plug that plugs into the gituar will come out making it worthless. You will have the vox amp in your hand and the plug will have to be pulled out of the gituar with a pair of pliers!!!!!
