Source Audio Zio Analog Front End + Boost Pedal

Source Audio Zio Analog Front End + Boost Pedal Reviews
The Source Audio Zio Front End + Boost is built to, in the company’s own words, “make everything sound better." In other words, it's much more than just a simple boost pedal. Featuring an all-analog design, the Zio boasts four distinct preamp circuits to take your tones to another level, whether it’s boosting your combo into low breakup or trimming the fat off a thrashing high-gain head! Sweetwater guitarists love how intuitive the all-powerful Zio's controls are; output, circuit, tone, and switch are the only functions you’ll have to worry about, making it easy to dial in your favorite “always-on” setting. The tone switch simulates how different lengths of cable impact capacitance with self-explanatory bright, medium, and dark settings. A bypass/mute switch controls the dual outputs for easy switching between instruments, plus the ability to add a tuner without introducing it to the full signal chain. Boost pedals can sometimes come across as one-dimensional, but the power and versatility of the Zio truly sets it apart from the rest of its 1-knob brethren.
Nice addition
I have a drum and bass band and picked up this box for a little boost and clean up the bass sound going into studio. The boost clears helps clear up the bass tones and gets some additional clarity on top. Highly recommend, it's well worth it!
Exceptional tone sweeter.
I put my Zio at the front of my chain, and … wow! I had been using a simple clean boost, but switching to the Zio has been a revelation. It adds quite a bit of definition and clarity to my tone, and despite the assortment of tone settings, it's very easy to dial in. It doesn't hurt that it's a boost too, although there are times that I wish I could control the boost and tone shaping functions separately.
Always on
The secret sauce pedal. This pedal first in your chain just makes everything after it better. Once you try it you won't want to play without it on. Gregg Block was once again spot on with the recommendation. It's not just a "drive" pedal …
Complete Control Over Your Core Tone!
The ultimate "always-on" pedal for your rig. This pedal will allow you to sculpt the core tone of your guitar as it hits your overdrives and amp. The four preamp circuit options are all totally unique and the three capacitance options will further refine the tone. There's plenty of boost on tap and the volume taper allows precise control over how much you want to drive your OD pedals or amp. I really recommend this pedal!
Analog pre-amp bliss!
Liked it so much on board #1 with a Dream65 and Ruby63 (stereo pedalboard), that I put it on my board #2 with Strymon Iridium (mono pedalboard Marshall setting only). I like each of the four pre-amps. Between them and the cable length setting, you've seriously got your base tone covered.
Tone Chasers Dream!!!
This pedal is fantastic! Extremely versatile and sounds and feels great. Stack this with your favorite overdrive and create any tone you want. Very simple to use and every boost is different and useable. Not a bad sound in this pedal. The perfect always on tone enhancer that works with any amp or rig. The ultimate pedal for tone chasers!!!
Not a true boost pedal
I was very disappointed with the SA Z10 pedal, as it is more of a pre-amp/EQ combo than an actual boost pedal. I was simply looking for a clean boost, and this is not it. I will use it on some of my keyboards in order to add some "hair" to their tine, but I found noting positive about the way it altered the guitar tone and the addition of unwanted gain vs. boost volume. If you're looking for a simple, straight forward clean boost pedal, this is not the pedal for you.
Option heaven
There are so many options for this great pedal. Right now the Studio setting is my go to setting. Tone switch works better then I expected. Between the four modes and three tone settings and 20db of boost there is nothing I can't find with this pedal
ZIO Yep
I tried using my ZIO as a lead boost placing it just after my RevvG3, and found that it tightened up the low frequencies, but the overall result included an undesirable harshness to the upper frequencies.
I contacted the good people at Source Audio who advised me that they had designed the ZIO as a buffer that works optimally when placed first in the guitar signal, even before a tuner.
Now I get the tight low frequencies that I was looking for, Low-Cut option.
Great Pre-amp
Using it as entry point to a multi pedalboard multi amp rig. Using the Mute setting to silence all.
Very Quiet, Great choice of pre-amp models & a boost/level control. Well Done!
You miss it when it's off
I'm really happy with my tone and setup. I played the Zio and it sent it over the top. Then when I turned it off my whole tone went flat. While the pedal does boost, to me it was much more valuable as an always on preamp that sweetened everything up. The studio setting in front of my first drive was magic.
That Extra 10-15% to a better tone
I use this in front of a Kemper or in the 1st mono effects stomp loop. It cleans up the signal and can subtly shape it without heavy handed coloration like most boost / OD pedals like the 808 flavors add. You have the option of using a 9volt power supply or for increased headroom you can run it at 18volts. I use the latter and the direct out of the Kemper is pristine for recording into the DAW if needed.
It delivers as advertised - it just sounds better. That Extra 10-15% to a better tone!
Beautiful tone enhancement
Received the Zio two days ago and in all honesty, it has become my favorite pedal,
and I own some fabulous pedals. The four different pre-amps are each wonderful and different and will enhance your tone! The three tone position switch works great and depending on your cable length ensures your sound stays the way you want. The tuner out is also a great feature! I highly recommend buying this pedal, you will not regret it! Thanks Sweetwater for your wonderful service.
